What is the Helix Adjustable Base Made Of?
The Helix Adjustable Base is made of carbon steel. The fabric is polyester and PVC mesh. You’ll also find polyethylene foam in its construction.
The base comes with four 3-inch stackable sections for the legs, so you can customize the height of the frame to your preference, up to 12 inches.
How Do I Assemble the Helix Adjustable Base?
A major perk of the Helix Adjustable Base is no tools are required. It took my coworker and I about 11 minutes to put it together, and I recommend having a friend help you with the unboxing and setup as well. It’s important to read the directions that arrive with the product, but here’s a quick rundown of putting it together.
- Clear out the space where you want to assemble the bed and bring the box into that area. (FYI: the box is shipped via FedEx Ground.)
- Now, take the frame out of the box, unfold it, and flip it upside down.
- Remove the plastic and cut the orange ties.
- Look for the legs of the bed and select your preferred height since they are adjustable. Once you’ve settled on the height of your legs, twist them into each corner.
- Now turn the bed right side up.
- Locate the power cord and plug it into the power supply beneath the base. Plug the other end into an outlet. (A surge protector is recommended.)
- Place the mattress retainer bar into the foot of the base.
- Locate the batteries for the remote, which will be in a separate bag, and place them inside the remote. You’ll now need to follow the instructions in order to pair the remote with the bed frame, but we found it quick and easy to do.
- Test it out to ensure it works properly and then you’re all set to slide your bed in and secure it on the base!
How Does the Helix Adjustable Base Work?
You’ll use the battery-operated remote to adjust the bed to your preferred sleeping position. With all the preset options, we believe this is one of the more advanced adjustable bases on the market. You can quickly and easily switch from TV-watching mode to your preferred sleeping position at the simple touch of a button.
We found in our testing that the bed operates with minimal noise, unless it’s in the massage setting. We also found that it provides adequate mattress support through every movement.

What Are the Helix Adjustable Base’s Features?
The Helix Adjustable Base remote has 12 buttons to cycle through different settings and features. We’ll cover them more below.
Head & Foot Elevation
Elevating your bed can improve sleep comfort. So take your bed to another level, literally, by elevating your head and shoulders for easier breathing. This can assist you in reducing snoring and sleep apnea so you can sleep more soundly. However, we always recommend checking with your doctor first if you feel you may be suffering from a sleep disorder.
The Helix Adjustable Base also enables you to elevate your legs and feet for improved sleep comfort. Elevating both your upper and lower body can alleviate pressure on your back and hips, which can help alleviate back pain. You can choose to have solely the head or foot section raised, or have both up at once to your desired heights.
Massage
In addition to elevating your body, the Helix Adjustable Base features massage settings with three different intensity levels so that you experience just the right amount of relief along your pressure points. You can enjoy a head and/or foot massage at your preferred setting. There are also three different timers you can set for the massages.
Keep in mind, though, the settings are a bit loud, especially at the highest massage intensity. Be prepared for some extra noise when using this feature or crank your relaxing spa music up a little higher (spa music not included).
Zero Gravity
Want to feel weightless in bed? Helix Sleep says you can with the zero gravity feature, which is influenced by research from NASA. Included as one of your remote presets, the zero gravity feature angles your body in a 120 degree position. According to Helix, the position supports spinal decompression, lower back pressure relief, and hip tension release. I found it to be super comfortable in this position.
Memory Presets
If you find a position (or three) that you really enjoy manually raising the head and foot of the base into, you can make that position a memory preset. The Helix Adjustable Base has three preset buttons for you to do this. Whether you’re a back, stomach, or side sleeper, you can find the right adjustments for your body type and sleep needs. So no need to try and find that exact position again that you were super cozy in, you can automatically raise into it with the touch of a button.
Flat Preset
Ready to quickly return to being completely horizontal? You can lower both the head and the foot of the base into a flat position with this button preset.
USB Ports
There are two USB ports on the bottom sides of this adjustable base, so you can charge your devices as you relax.
Is the Helix Adjustable Base Good for You?
While we believe this is one of the more advanced adjustable bases on the market, advanced doesn’t necessarily mean better. If you’re looking for a simpler option, for instance, you may find that another adjustable base is more to your liking. We’ll go through all the pros and cons of the Helix Adjustable Base so you can decide whether or not it’s just what you need to get a better night’s sleep.

You do not need to buy a specific mattress to use with the Helix Adjustable Base. One thing to note, however, if you’re looking for a king size bed that comes with dual control, Helix recommends purchasing two twin XL adjustable bases and two twin XL mattresses instead.
Can I return the Helix Adjustable Base?
You may return the Helix Adjustable Base if the packaging is unopened. Unlike Helix’s mattresses, which have a 100-night sleep trial, the Helix Adjustable Base does not come with a trial period.

Can Helix mattresses be on an adjustable base?
