Is the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe a Good Mattress for You?
Brooklyn Bedding is a popular destination for everything from bed-in-a-box mattresses to sheets, pillows, and foundations. While we won’t be getting into all these different products today, we will take a little time later on to compare the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe to a few other mattress models.
But before we get to that, let’s talk about the Aurora Luxe! The Aurora Luxe is Brooklyn Bedding’s most popular mattress model, and it actually made our best mattresses of 2024 list.
To start off, we put each of our mattresses through something called a “Rest Test,” where we lie down on the bed for an uninterrupted 15-minute power nap. This gives us a big-picture assessment of how it performs before we get into some of our more specific tests. Here’s how my colleague Amelia felt napping on the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe in the Medium model:
“I found the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe to be very comfortable! I tested out lying on both my back and side, which are the positions I primarily sleep in. Both positions felt great on this bed — I felt properly supported but also experienced nice pressure relief. I loved how cushiony the surface of the mattress felt, in particular!”

Who I recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress for
- First and foremost, I’d recommend this mattress to hot sleepers. This bed sleeps nice and cool thanks to special Phase Change technology and gel infusions.
- The Aurora Luxe is also a nice pick for back sleepers. This mattress in the Medium model is medium-soft, so it should contour the hips while also lifting them into alignment.
- Couples who are searching for good cooling, edge support, and responsiveness for sex should really enjoy the Aurora Luxe.
Who I don’t recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress for
- Heavier folks might not find enough support, even with the Firm version. They’ll want to check out the Brooklyn Titan mattress review, which gives an overview of Brooklyn Bedding’s heavy-sleeper friendly option.
- This bed is probably too soft for stomach sleepers in the Medium model. While lightweight stomach sleepers should do alright, other folks need firmer structures to keep their hips aligned with their shoulders. How Firm is the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe Mattress?
Let’s talk about firmness to kick off our feel conversation. Like any feel factor, firmness is subjective, and can change a lot depending on your body size and preferred sleeping position. So, my read of this bed’s firmness could differ from your own.
I decided to give the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress in the Medium model a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, this bed is a slightly softer mattress.
The pocketed coils bring a lot of support and heft to the structure, but the top layers of foam help set the tone here too. And that tone is one of a more balanced feel, achieving some pressure relief but also some sturdiness.

Now that I’ve given you my personal opinion of the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe, I’d like to share a more objective look at this bed. To do so, I’ll go over how it performed on some of our Sleepopolis tests, including motion transfer, pain/pressure relief, cooling, and more. But first, I’ll share how it performs for sleepers of different weights, which should give you further information to decide if it might work for your needs.
Testing the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe Mattress in Different Sleeping Positions
Sleepers of different weights need different levels of support. Generally, light sleepers don’t need as much support as heavy sleepers. Additionally, your preferred sleeping position will affect how a mattress feels to you. Take a look at how I think this bed performs for sleepers of different sizes and sleep positions.
Is the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – These sleepers will feel this bed slightly firmer than advertised. I think this bed is a good choice for these sleepers, giving a mix of comfort and support.
- Light Side Sleepers – I think this bed is a solid choice for these sleepers. For additional sinkage and pressure relief, we recommend the Soft model.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – This mattress should be alright for these folks, and should keep the spine aligned. Those wanting a firmer feel should check out the Firm model instead.
Is the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – I think this mattress is fantastic for average weight back sleepers, as it provides the necessary balanced feel.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – I think side sleepers wanting a bit of a firmer feel should like this mattress. The Soft model could also be a great option for those wanting more cushioning, especially folks with joint pain.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – This bed may not offer the support that most of these sleepers need. I’d steer them to the Firm model or one of our best firm mattresses instead.
Is the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I think the Aurora Luxe Medium model isn’t going to be supportive or firm enough for these sleepers. I’d tell them to check out the Brooklyn Titan, the brand’s heavy sleeper-specific bed, or one of our best mattresses for heavy people.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – These sleepers could do well on the Firm model of the Aurora Luxe since it will offer them more support.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I don’t think any of the models of the Aurora Luxe are going to be a great match for these sleepers and would suggest they look at one of our best mattresses for heavy people.
Brooklyn Aurora Luxe Mattress Pain Relief Performance
When it comes to mattresses, pain relief is intertwined with pressure relief. To alleviate or prevent pain, you’ll want to alleviate as much pressure as possible, especially at sensitive pressure points at the shoulders, hips, and lower back.
To test how well a mattress relieves pressure, I used a handy pressure mat. I placed the mat on top of the mattress, and hopped abroad. It then created a “map” of how much pressure was exerted as I rolled onto my side, stomach, and back. Blue to green indicate areas of low pressure, while yellow to red indicate high pressure.
Back Pain – Overall, the map is pretty much all blue, and that’s good. I think that stomach sleepers suffering from back pain will need a firmer bed than the Aurora Luxe Medium model to keep their spines aligned. On the other hand, back sleepers and most side sleepers with back pain should be quite happy here.
Shoulder Pain – I think the Aurora Luxe is a really nice choice for back sleepers who suffer from shoulder pain, since they’ll need a softer bed to cushion that sensitive joint. However, stomach sleepers with shoulder pain will need a firmer bed to keep pressure from forming in other areas. And side sleepers might find this mattress to be a little too firm, so they should opt for the Soft model.
Hip Pain – Similar to sleepers with shoulder pain, these sleepers need a soft bed that won’t put pressure on a sore hip joint. I think the Aurora Luxe does a great job of that for back sleepers. But again, stomach sleepers will need a firmer bed to prevent their hips from sinking out of line with their shoulders, which can lead to back pain over time. And side sleepers may not find enough pressure relief or contouring, unless they select the Soft model.
Brooklyn Aurora Luxe Mattress Performance for Couples
If you share your bed with a partner, you’ll want to consider a few additional factors before purchasing a new mattress. You’ll want to think about how well it absorbs movement, if it’s good for sex, if it has strong edges, and if it sleeps cool. Take a look at how the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe stands up in these categories below.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer tells us how likely you are to feel your partner’s movements in the night. Ideally, a bed would have low motion transfer, which means it isolates and dissipates motion evenly across a structure. This factor is important for all sleepers, but especially for couples.
To illustrate motion transfer, I dropped a 10-pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
These are pretty decent motion transfer results. Though there is some bounce from the system of pocketed coils, the top layers of foam do a good job of absorbing and dissipating motion evenly across the structure. You’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s movements in the night. However, if your partner moves a lot getting up at night or if you have a large dog who likes to jump on your bed, you’ll probably feel it.
Sex
For a mattress to be good for sex, it needs a bit of bounce. This will help you move around and prevent you and your partner from feeling “stuck” in the mattress. I’d say the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe is a great mattress for sex! Its hybrid structure gives it some nice bounce and responsiveness, so you shouldn’t have trouble moving about.
Cooling
Two people overheat more easily than one, so you’ll definitely want to look for a bed with at least some cooling technology if you sleep with a partner.

Edge Support
Edge support is a measure of whether or not you’ll feel supported if you sleep all the way on the side of your mattress. I found the Aurora Luxe to have great edge support. I felt plenty supported on this bed.
What is the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe Mattress Made Of?
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Hybrid was built to feel pressure-relieving and cooling. Let’s dive underneath the cover to see if the brand pulls this off.
Cover — The mattress cover is made of a special Phase Change Material. This fabric is cool to the touch, and works to dissipate body heat.
Comfort Layer — Beneath the Phase Change Material, you’ll land on a 1.5-inch layer of the brand’s CopperFlex foam. This copper-infused foam is antimicrobial and treated with TitanCool, another Phase Change Material that promotes airflow throughout this hybrid mattress.
Contour Layer — Next is a 2-inch layer of TitanFlex foam. This foam offers some additional cushioning around your pressure points, but is also very responsive.
Transition Layer — Below the TitanFlex foam, you’ll find a transition layer made of 1 inch of visco-elastic gel memory foam. It will ease you down onto the pocketed coil section of the bed.
Support Layer — An 8-inch tall section of pocketed coils offers some responsiveness to this bed. This coil system supports the foam layers above and promotes even more airflow throughout the mattress, helping it sleep cool.
Base Layer — And finally we arrive at a 0.75-inch section of high-density foam. This material is mainly here to give the coils something to bounce off of as you move around at night.
Brooklyn Aurora Luxe Mattress Unboxing and Off-Gassing
The Brooklyn Aurora Luxe is a bed-in-a-box mattress, which means it will ship compressed. You’ll have to unbox it at home. I’d recommend unboxing it in the room you will be using it in, and doing so with another person, since the mattress can tend to expand quite quickly after unboxing.
The mattress may emit a smell after unboxing. This is known as off-gassing and it happens as the foams release trapped gasses from compression. It happens with most bed-in-a-box beds. I’d recommend leaving your unboxed mattress in a well-ventilated room for at least 24 hours to ensure the smell dissipates entirely.

My favorite things about the Aurora Luxe mattress
My favorite thing about this bed is how cooling it is. Even some of the best soft mattresses tend to sleep a little hot because of the snuggly foams they use. The Aurora Luxe really solves this problem with Phase Change Material and breathable pocketed coils. So hot sleepers who enjoy a soft feel should definitely check it out.
I also appreciate how soft and cuddly this bed is. It feels similar to a lot of luxury hybrids on the market right now, but is a little cheaper than these beds. Back sleepers should enjoy a balanced feel that promotes spinal alignment and maximum comfort. Most side sleepers should appreciate the pressure-relieving sinkage this mattress offers in the Soft model. I also love how it comes in three different firmness models. So, different types of sleepers can pick the best option for them.
My Aurora Luxe mattress complaints
My main complaint about the Aurora Luxe in the Medium model is that it could offer stronger support for heavier folks and a lot of stomach sleepers. Because it’s softer, it does sacrifice some of the supportiveness a firmer mattress might offer. If you’re a heavier sleeper or someone who needs some extra lumbar support this mattress probably won’t work for you.
