Founded earlier this year, new mattress retailer Molecule has entered the bed-in-a-box world on a singular mission to provide customers with the coolest sleep of their lives.
While Molecule is far from the only company to hold up temperature regulation as a major tenant of a solid night’s rest, its flagship mattress does seem unique in that cooling tech is infused into every aspect of its design. From moisture-wicking and antimicrobial fabrications in the cover to the use of the brand’s proprietary Air-Engineered™ technology through the comfort and transition layers, this is a bed built to contain and dissipate heat.
“We’re passionate about sleep and recognized a gap in the market that didn’t address the specific recovery needs of those living demanding lifestyles—athletes, entrepreneurs, business owners, parents who need deep, restorative sleep to perform their best,” Molecule co-founder Raymond Lyle wrote in a press release. “Working in tandem with our medical advisory team, Molecule was precisely engineered to maximize airflow and provide efficient heat transfer, helping to regulate core body temperature without sacrificing comfort and support.”
The Molecule is designed and assembled in the U.S. using an eco-friendly manufacturing process with CertiPUR-US® Certified Non-Toxic foams. While the brand is only selling its flagship mattress for the time being (priced at $1,495 for a Queen), customers can expect an additional lineup of products soon, including a signature blanket, heat regulating sheets and pillows.
THE IMPORTANCE OF SLEEPING COOL
Nowadays, it’s pretty much agreed upon that one of the best ways to seamlessly drift off to dreamland is to keep things cool in the bedroom. The theory is that body temperatures naturally dip at night, so creating a refreshing environment helps to establish an ideal equilibrium between the external and internal thermostat.
“Studies of sleep onset insomniacs show that they consistently have a warmer core body temperature immediately before initiating sleep when compared with normal healthy adults,” explained Dr. Cameron Van den Heuvel in a study for the UniSA’s Center for Sleep Research. “This results in a state of heightened arousal that prevents them from falling asleep… because they have to wait for their bodies to lose the heat that’s keeping them awake.”
