TEMPUR-ProBreeze Mattress Firmness

Firmness level is one of the most important factors to consider during your hunt for a new bed. As with any feel factor, firmness is a subjective measure that could change depending on your body size, shape, or weight. Therefore, my observations could very well differ from your own. 

After lying down on the ProBreeze mattress for a bit, my colleagues and I decided to give it a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 1 is ranked the softest and 10 is the most firm. For reference, the industry standard is 6.5 out of 10, or medium-firm.

Despite it being on the firmer side for an all-foam bed, I still thought it retained that “traditional” memory foam feel. I felt lifted and supported while testing the ProBreeze on my back and got good pressure relief around my lower lumbar spine. I also think this bed will provide ample support for most average-weight stomach sleepers.

TEMPUR-ProAdapt Mattress

Featuring a tall 12” profile, the TEMPUR-ProAdapt takes all the great stuff going on in the TEMPUR-Adapt and kicks ‘em up a notch for added comfort. This includes a SmartClimate Dual Cover System as well as advanced memory foam and support foam. Additionally, the bed comes in four different firmnesses: Soft, Medium, Medium Hybrid, and Firm.

After trying out the TEMPUR-Cloud for a bit, my colleagues and I decided to give it a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 1 is ranked the softest and 10 is the most firm. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it seems this bed is just a touch firmer than average.

Although you definitely get some deep body-contouring and pressure relief from the top layers of memory foam, the base layer of high-density poly foam creates enough firmness to place the mattress right above medium-firm. 

To be clear, someone with a different height and body type than me might find the TEMPUR-Cloud to be a true medium-firm bed. Fluctuations aside, know that the denser foam below does a decent job of bolstering the top foam layers, helping to curb the sinkage before it becomes too dramatic. 

TEMPUR-Cloud Mattress

An excellent choice for those in need of pressure relief, the TEMPUR-Cloud is a memory foam mattress with slow-moving, quicksand-like foam. It is a great option for back sleepers, side sleepers, couples, and even those with lower back pain.

How Firm is the Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt Mattress?

Firmness is one of the most important factors to consider during your search for a new bed. I want to take a second to chat about my process for figuring out how firm a mattress is. It’s really important to incorporate a few different opinions into this test. Why? Because different folks (with different bodies, shapes, and sleep preferences) are going to experience mattresses in diverse ways.

To that end, I invited three of my coworkers to come assess this bed with me. We each took a turn on the TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt and assigned it a personal firmness rating, which we then averaged together to land on the composite score you see on the graphic below.

There was a bit of variance in our responses, but we all felt the firmness as somewhere in the 4-6 out of 10 range, where 1 is ranked the softest and 10 is the most firm. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it’s clear that this bed is ultra soft.

I personally gave the mattress a 5 out of 10 as I found its thick top layers of memory foam produced an incredibly gentle structure. As I stretched out on the mattress, I could feel my entire body sinking deeply into its layers, resulting in an intense amount of body-contouring. While this did leave me feeling a bit stuck in the bed, the accompanying pressure relief was super satisfying, especially at my shoulders, hips, and lower back. This feel may be a touch too soft for back or stomach sleepers, but I think it could be a nice fit for those who doze primarily on their sides.
