Best Sheets for the Money

There’s a lot to consider when searching for the perfect bedding, not the least of which is price. It’s important to take your time, and pick the sheets that are most compatible with your unique sleep needs. However, not all fabrics are created equal, and it would be a shame to invest in a set of sheets you’ll have to replace in a few months. So, in the interest of saving time (and money), allow me to present six sheet sets that I think offer the best bang for your buck!

In this review, I’m going to take you through a line-up of bedding that was built to last, but won’t break the bank. And don’t worry, I’ll outline my personal methodology for determining a sheet set’s value so that you can make your shopping experience as efficient as possible.

Best Sheets for the Money: Sarah’s Top Six Picks

Now, remember folks: There is a big wide world of bedding out there, and these are just six sheet sets that I, personally, think offer the best value. That being said, I chose them because they each feature exceptional quality and craftsmanship, and fall within a price point that is particularly reasonable relative to the specific materials used.

How do you determine the value of a sheet set, you ask? Well, listed below is my personal methodology:

  • Durability — Simply put, some fabrics are just superior in quality. So, I aim for bedding that advertises long fibers, or is derived from materials that I know are extra durable. For example, bamboo fibers have a reputation for being extra strong, so I don’t mind paying a little extra as I know bamboo-bedding will last me a long time. The longer my sheets last, the more bang I’m getting for my buck!
  • Research — Not sure which materials are most durable? Researching a fabric before you begin your shopping journey is a great way to prepare. The more you know about a specific fabric, the better equipped you will be to fine-tune your search.
  • Compare Prices — Yes, most higher quality fabrics come with a higher price tag. However, comparing prices across several different bedding brands is a smart way to get a base-line idea of the average cost of a sheet set. This way, you’ll know when a sheet set is a good value, and when it’s way overpriced.

Now that we have a good general sense of how to determine which set of sheets will give you the best bang for your buck, let’s get into this bedding!

Best Bamboo Sheets

Purple Sheets

The first set of sheets I want to look at is from Purple. If you’re familiar with the Purple mattresses and the proprietary hyper-elastic polymer that makes up their construction, let me assure you that these sheets are stretchy in their own special way.

These sheets are made from a blend of spandex and viscose from bamboo, so you’re getting this super stretchy quality that enhances the sheets’ durability. In my experience, this elastic quality allows the fabric to hug the mattress in a way that I’ve never seen in another set of sheets.

The spandex in these sheets contributes to a totally wrinkle-free look which, in my experience, is quite rare with bamboo-based bedding. Bedding derived from bamboo brings all sorts of fabulous perks to the table, as the bamboo plant transfers its breathability, durability, moisture-wicking, and antimicrobial properties into the fabric. But one thing that almost always comes with bamboo-based sheets is extra vulnerability to wrinkles. So, the fact that these sheets seem impossible to wrinkle makes them pretty special in my book.

Meanwhile, these sheets do feature those bamboo bonuses many sleepers look for. Now, because bamboo-based bedding usually provides these extra advantages, it often comes with a higher price tag (as compared to cotton sheets, for example). That’s partly why Purple’s sheets made this list — ranging from $99-$129, this bedding is such a good value.

These are the least expensive bamboo-based sheets I’ve ever tested and, also the least expensive sheets on this list. So, if you’re in the market for some soft, stretchy, bamboo sheets, I say give Purple sheets a try.

To get the full scoop on this bedding, check out my written and video reviews of the Purple Sheet Set!

Pricing: $99-$129

Perfect for: Sleepers who love the soft breathability of bamboo, but also want to enjoy Purple’s signature stretchy feel.

Best Egyptian Cotton Sheets

Parachute

Next up on my list are two sheet sets from Parachute. I’m looking at both Parachute’s sateen woven and percale woven sheets, which offer a different look and feel due to their specific weave styles.

As is often the case with this weave style, Parachute’s percale bedding is matte in appearance, and offers a feel that’s more crisp and cool. On the other hand, Parachute’s sateen (which is my personal favorite) is shiny and lustrous, and provides a feel that’s more silky and smooth. But the thing that these sheet sets have in common is that they’re both made from 100% Egyptian cotton.

Thanks to its extra-long fibers, Egyptian cotton is widely regarded as superior in quality. This extra-long fiber factor contributes to better durability, a softer feel, and better color retention. For these reasons, many sleepers look specifically for Egyptian cotton, though it’s generally more expensive than other types of cotton.

Personally, I think paying those extra bucks for sheets that will last longer is well worth the investment. That said, Parachute’s sheets are considerably less expensive than many other Egyptian cotton sheets I’ve tested.

Between you and me, I’ve tested Egyptian cotton sheets that were $500, and I didn’t enjoy them as much as Parachute’s sets. The percale is crisp and clean, the sateen is silky and lustrous, and both offer that soft durability that comes from Egyptian cotton.

For every last detail on both of these sheet sets, check out my full review of Parachute’s bedding!

Pricing: Price ranges from $109-$169 depending on which size you choose, and whether you go for percale or sateen.

Perfect for: Sleepers who love the soft durability that comes from extra-long staple Egyptian cotton!

Best Supima Cotton Sheets

Casper

Here we have Casper’s Cool Supima Sheet Set which, as the name suggests, is made from 100% Supima cotton.

Similar to Egyptian cotton, Supima cotton is widely considered to be a superior, luxurious type of cotton. Supima cotton exclusively employs extra-long staples, which pretty much guarantees a boost in durability, softness, color retention, and overall quality. Additionally, Casper’s Cool Supima sheet set features a very breathable percale weave, which might be particularly beneficial to folks who sleep hot.

Not to mention, Supima cotton is only harvested in the U.S. So, some sleepers prefer Supima to Egyptian cotton as it offers that made-in-America element. In the case of Casper’s Cool Supima Sheet Set, the cotton is harvested on a farm in California.

This exclusivity combined with the cotton’s extra-long fibers tends to contribute to a higher price tag. But remember: It’s a better deal to invest in sheets that will maintain integrity for several years, than to spend less money on a sheet set you’ll have to replace in a few months. Sheets made from Supima cotton are usually in the $200 range, but Casper’s are less expensive and, in my opinion, don’t sacrifice any quality!

Pricing: $100-$170, depending on size.

Perfect for: Sleepers looking for the cool crispness of percale, combined with the strength of Supima cotton!

Best Sheets for Hot Sleepers

Brooklinen

Here we have another great example of 100% long-staple cotton sheets — the Classic Core Sheet Set from Brooklinen.

Now, you’re going to hear me repeat this again and again, but longer cotton fibers (commonly referred to as staples) produce a stronger, more durable sheet. So, when considering the best value for a set of sheets, it’s best to aim for sheets that are going to last long enough to give you the most bang for your buck.

The long-staple cotton used in Brooklinen’s Classic Core Sheet Set does offers some great durability — but don’t mistake strength for weight. Yes, these sheets are built to last, but they’re also super lightweight and airy. They feature a very breathable percale weave, and they feel cool to the touch. This is a great pick for sleepers looking for a durable set of sheets that will also keep them cool throughout the night.

Something that I like about these sheets is their crisp, hotel-bed feel. Percale woven sheets are already crisp in general, but these are definitely among the most crisp I’ve ever tested. And while I do think that a set of white cotton sheets is a bedroom essential, Brooklinen offers this sheet set in fifteen different styles (so get creative!)

Best Organic Cotton Sheets

Saatva Lofton

As you know, I’ve personally tested each sheet set listed in this roundup. However, I have to admit that the Lofton Organic Sheet Set from Saatva is one of my all-time favorites.

Now, this sheet set is a bit pricier than the sets we’ve looked at so far, but it also offers a combination of traits that don’t often go together. This bedding is cooling, silky, breathable, and sateen woven. Typically, a sateen weave produces a sheet that’s thicker, heavier in weight, and less breathable. Because of this, it can be tough for sleepers who prefer sateen bedding (but also need help keeping cool) to find their perfect sheet set.

With the Saatva Lofton sheet set, you’re getting the lustrous sheen and silky feel that sateen-lovers (myself included) enjoy, while also getting the kind of cool breathability that’s characteristic of percale. Sleepers who love the cooling qualities of percale, but really want that silky-smooth sateen feel, should give this bedding a try.

Rest assured, these sheets are also made from long-staple cotton. So, you’re still getting the strong, soft, durability that comes from longer fibers. Additionally, the cotton used in these sheets is a product of Fair Trade manufacturing which means the farmers who harvest the cotton must be paid a living wage. And the sheets themselves are certified organic, so eco-friendly sleepers might be particularly compatible with Saatva’s sheets.

Pricing: $125-$215, depending on size.

Perfect for: The sateen-lover who needs help keeping cool, and prefers organic cotton!

They are sateen woven which means they are going to be a bit more silky in feel, and less crisp. Additionally, they offer a light, lustrous sheen rather than a solid, matte finish.

Best Linen Sheets

MagicLinen

And last (but not least!), we have the Woodrose Sheet Set from MagicLinen. This sheet set is made from 100% linen and offers a totally different look and feel compared to the rest of the sheets on this list.

If you’ve got a linen garment hanging in your closet, you might already be familiar with the distinctly coarse texture of this fabric. Linen fibers are thicker (compared to cotton, for example) and produce a stiffer yarn. Linen bedding offers a gently massaging quality that’s unique to this material.

However, this particular sheet set is stone washed. Stone washing is a textile manufacturing technique meant to give new fabrics a worn-in appearance by enhancing their softness and flexibility. In this case, the stone washing makes these sheets feel a little less coarse, and a little more soft and cozy. Additionally, they have a sort of casually lived-in, rustic aesthetic that I think is quite charming.

Now, linen itself has a reputation for bringing some pretty cool advantages to the table. Not only is it considered to be one of the most breathable and durable fabrics on the market, it’s also thermoregulating. Essentially, that means that linen adapts to your body’s temperature. For example, if you’re warm, the linen will help wick moisture and dissipate your body’s heat. Conversely, if you’re cold, linen fabric works as a great insulator.

Thanks to these thermoregulating properties, linen sheets are great for year-round use (talk about bang for your buck, am I right?). So, while linen bedding does tend to be on the pricier side, it offers a unique look and feel, and is built to last a good, long while.

Watch me test the full performance of these sheets in my MagicLinen review!

Pricing: $209-$309, but sleepers have the option to buy bedding as a bundle, or individual items. You can save 10% on your order with the code SLEEPOPOLIS!

Final Thoughts

Well, those are my top picks for the best sheets for your money. But even if you don’t find any of these sheet sets to be ideal for you, there are a few key points I hope you take away from this review:

  • Pay close attention to the durability and overall quality of the materials used. Remember — the longer the fibers, the stronger the fabric.
  • Invest in bedding that’s going to bring you comfort for years to come. Spending $30 bucks on a sheet set seems like a good idea until you have to replace it in a few months.
  • Research materials! Fabrics like linen, bamboo, and superior brands of cotton each bring their own special set of perks to the bedroom.
  • Compare prices. If you’re not sure what a certain material is typically valued at, you might be more likely to fall into an overpriced trap.
