In this review, we’ll be comparing two very popular — but quite different — mattresses: the Saatva classic mattress and Leesa original mattress. One bed’s all foam, while the other has coils-on-coils. They have distinct feels and materials, so which one is the best for you?
That’s the question we’re here to help answer. I’m going to compare various components of both these mattresses, from their constructions to their firmness levels. I want to note that the Saatva comes in three firmness options: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. In this comparison, I’ll be referring to the Saatva in the Luxury Firm version.
If you don’t have time to read my full comparison, you can jump down to my review summary. Otherwise, let’s get started!

Saatva vs Leesa: Which is Better for You?
Depending on factors like your body weight, preferred sleeping position, and whether or not you sleep with a partner or pet, one of these mattresses may suit your needs better than the other. Take a look at some of my recommendations below.
Who Should Buy the Saatva
- If you like a classic innerspring feel, then the Saatva is right up your alley. It consists of a coil-on-coil construction with a Euro pillow top, so it’s bouncy and durable. There’s also a layer of high-density memory foam in the Saatva that sits under the hip area for boosted pressure relief.
- If you’re a stomach sleeper, you should enjoy the firmness level of the Saatva. This bed should keep your hips elevated, which is key to maintaining spinal alignment while sleeping. This will help prevent any back pain from forming down the road. If you want an even firmer feel than the Luxury Firm model offers, you can opt for the Firm version.
- The Saatva is a sturdy and supportive mattress, making it a great fit for heavier sleepers weighing more than 250 pounds.

Who Should Buy the Leesa
- If you’re a back sleeper, you should really enjoy sleeping on the Leesa. It should give you the comfort and lumbar support you need.
- The Leesa at full retail price is pretty affordable and the company often runs promotions, so if you’re shopping on a budget, this could be a great option for you.
- If you enjoy a foam feeling, the Leesa’s all-foam build and cushiony feel might give it an edge. However, it doesn’t quite have that quicksand, slow-moving foam feel like a lot of memory foam mattresses offer.

Saatva vs Leesa: Similarities and Differences
Let’s take a look at the key similarities and differences between these two beds. I’d also recommend looking at our full Saatva mattress review and Leesa mattress review for more detailed information.
Main Similarities
- Both can be ordered online and ship free to your door.
- Both mattresses are around the medium-firm range, which is the most popular firmness level for most sleepers. However, the Leesa is a little softer than the Saatva.
- Neither of these mattresses is a good choice for side sleepers. The best mattress for side sleepers will often be soft enough to provide sinkage and pressure relief around the hips and shoulder.
Differences
- The Leesa is an all-foam bed, while the Saatva classic is an innerspring mattress with a Euro pillow top.
- The Saatva ships uncompressed in a box with the perk of white glove delivery service — meaning workers will set it up in your room for you and take away your old mattress for free. The Leesa ships free compressed in a box, so it will need a day or two to fully expand and release any off-gassing smells.
- The Leesa is cheaper than the Saatva mattress, but the Saatva has a longer warranty and trial period.
Saatva and Leesa Mattress Feel Comparison
Now let’s get into detail about how these beds feel. A mattress will feel different to you depending on your body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position.
Saatva
We gave the Saatva in the Luxury Firm version a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for medium-firm is a 6.5 out of 10, so it has a slightly firmer feel. Because of this, it’s a great option for stomach sleepers since it’ll offer the needed support to keep their hips aligned with their shoulders.

The Saatva has a zoned support system, which means there’s a memory foam layer in the middle of the bed to offer pressure relief in the center where sleepers need it. Back sleepers should enjoy this bed since they should have some sinkage around the hips.
Again, we’re referring to the Saatva in the Luxury Firm option, so you could always opt for the less firm or firmer model to better meet your needs.
Overall, the Saatva has a supportive and bouncy feel that should attract sleepers who switch from sleeping on their back to their stomach.
Leesa
I gave the Leesa a 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale — making the Leesa a little less firm than the industry standard. I thought it provided good spinal alignment for strict back sleepers. The Leesa includes a layer of memory foam for body-contouring and pressure relief.

The mix of support foams in this mattress means it should sleep nice and cool, which is a great feature for hot sleepers and couples. On the other hand, the Leesa doesn’t do a particularly good job isolating motion transfer, so if you sleep with an especially restless partner, you may want to opt for something that offers more sinkage.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Saatva and the Leesa
As mentioned earlier, your body weight and preferred sleeping position will determine how a mattress feels to you. So, let’s go through how each bed could feel for the following sleepers:
Saatva
Back — I really like the Saatva for back sleepers. Its zoned support layer of memory foam is softer at the hips, which helps give some sinkage and promote a neutral spinal alignment.
Side — I think the Saatva in the Luxury Firm version is too firm for side sleepers. I’d recommend trying the Plush Soft firmness level instead.
Stomach — I think these sleepers will feel great on the Saatva. It’ll do a nice job keeping their hips lifted and in line with their shoulders, which is important for a healthy sleep posture.
Body Weight — If you’re a lighter sleeper (less than 130 pounds), you’ll likely feel the Saatva to be a little firmer than we did. Conversely, if you’re a heavy sleeper (over 250 pounds), you’re going to sink into the Saatva more and it’ll feel softer. I think the Saatva is supportive enough for heavy sleepers due to its sturdy construction.
Leesa
Back — The Leesa is great for back sleepers. It feels a little softer than medium-firm, which should feel comfortable for back sleepers and give them the needed lumbar support. These sleepers should also feel some pressure relief at the lower back.
Side — I don’t think the Leesa is soft enough for strict side sleepers. I think these sleepers could feel some pressure forming around their shoulders, which could lead to pain in the future. If you’re a side sleeper, I’d look for a softer bed, like one of our best memory foam mattresses.
Stomach — I think the Leesa is a bit too soft for strict stomach sleepers. These sleepers need a firm mattress that’s going to keep their hips in line with their shoulders, which helps prevent back pain.
Body Weight — If you’re a lighter sleeper, this mattress will feel a bit firmer, and if you’re heavier, it will feel a bit softer. I don’t think the Leesa is supportive enough for heavy people. I recommend heavy people opt for a bed that was specifically designed for higher body weights.

Comparing Saatva and Leesa Mattress Materials
Now that you know how the Saatva classic and the Leesa feel, I want to dive into their layers to see the full construction of each mattress.
Saatva
Cover — The Saatva has an organic cotton cover that is breathable and soft to the touch. The cover also has an antimicrobial treatment.
Comfort Layer — The top layer is made from a 3” Euro pillow top. This layer offers some nice cushioning and pressure relief.
Support Layer — A layer of individually wrapped pocketed coils contour to your body’s movement and add some nice bounce, airflow, and support.
Zoned Support Layer — There is a layer of memory foam in the center of the Saatva that offers some pressure relief in the middle of the mattress, where sleepers need it most at the hips and lower back.
Support Layer — The Saatva’s base layer is made from steel coils and foam edge support (wrapped around the coils to maximize the bed’s surface area).

Leesa
Cover — The Leesa’s cover is a durable and breathable twill fabric.
Comfort Layer — The comfort layer is constructed of 2” of breathable foam. This foam responds well to pressure and is very cooling, which is a nice perk for hot sleepers.
Transition Layer — Below the comfort layer, you’ll find a 2” layer of memory foam. This section offers body contouring and pressure relief, which is great for all sleepers.
Base Layer — The third layer of this mattress is built with 6” of support foam. This layer acts as the foundation of the bed and keeps everything in place.

Saatva vs Leesa: Best Qualities
So, which bed is best for you? Let’s go over some of my favorite features of each mattress.
Saatva Best Features
- The Saatva classic is a sturdy, high-quality mattress with great bounce and edge support. This makes it a nice option for couples who want to use the full surface of the mattress and those who want to easily move around on their bed.
- The Saatva is a good choice for stomach and back sleepers.
- Heavier sleepers, weighing more than 250 pounds, should also really like the Saatva classic. However, Saatva also has a mattress made specifically with heavier sleepers in mind, the Saatva HD. You can read our full review on the Saatva HD mattress here.

Leesa Best Features
- Strict back sleepers should enjoy the supportive nature of this mattress, and its memory foam layer should offer them some nice pressure relief at the lower back.
- If you are looking for a mattress that sleeps cool, the construction of the Leesa tends to draw heat away from the sleepers, even with its layer of memory foam.
- The Leesa is the slightly cheaper mattress option, which could be a big perk for some folks.

Below, I’ll give each brand’s customer service team a score based on our own personal experience interacting with them. Possible scores include stellar, great, satisfactory, and poor.

Saatva Sleepopolis Customer Service Rating
Stellar: We gave Saatva a stellar rating because we were quickly paired with a person to help answer our questions on both their online chat feature and when calling their help phone number.
