DreamCloud vs WinkBed: Similarities and Differences

Before I get into the nitty gritty, I’ll take a minute to describe the main similarities and differences between these two beds.  I’d also invite you to take a peek at my full DreamCloud mattress review and WinkBed mattress review for even more information.

Similarities

DreamCloud Mattress
The DreamCloud in the Sleepopolis studio.
  • Both of these beds are hybrid mattresses that combine foam and pocketed coils to balance pressure relief and support.
  • Both The DreamCloud and the luxury firm WinkBed offer firm-feeling support that could work well for back sleepers.

Differences

The WinkBed
The WinkBed in the Sleepopolis Studio.
  • The DreamCloud is cheaper than the WinkBed mattress, which might be important to some sleepers.
  • The WinkBed comes in three firmness options, while the DreamCloud only comes in one. So sleepers looking for a specific feel might have better luck with a WinkBeds mattress.
  • The DreamCloud sleeps slightly cooler than the WinkBed, which is an important feature for hot sleepers.

Which is Better for You?

So what exactly do these similarities and differences mean for you? Take a look at my list to find out.

  • If you’re a combination sleeper you’ll probably prefer the WinkBed, which is more responsive than the DreamCloud.
  • If you’re a side sleeper you’ll probably prefer a soft model of the WinkBed.
  • If you sleep with a partner the DreamCloud could be the best choice for you, you shouldn’t feel too disturbed by a restless partner on this bed.
  • If you’re a stomach sleeper a firm model of the WinkBed is the best choice for you, firm support is the best way to keep your hips from sinking into your mattress.
  • If you’re a back sleeper both mattresses should provide the balance of support and pressure relief you need.
  • If you’re a heavier sleeper, the WinkBed might be the best choice for you, its innerspring coils offer plenty of firm support.

Comparing DreamCloud and WinkBed Mattress Feel

Now that you know who these beds could work for, let’s get into how these mattresses actually feel. To do that, I’m going to assess them for a few different factors, including firmness, pressure relief, motion transfer, and bounce.

But before we do that, a small note to say that all feel factors are inherently subjective and could change a lot depending on one’s body size, shape, and weight. Therefore, my read of these beds could very well differ from your own. For context, I’m 5’10”, weight 190 lbs, and typically sleep on my stomach.

DreamCloud vs WinkBed Firmness
The DreamCloud and WinkBed mattresses have similar support levels.

DreamCloud

In my opinion, the DreamCloud mattress is about a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it’s clear that this mattress is definitely on the firmer side of things.

The DreamCloud mattress is dominated by its pocketed coil system, which brings plenty of bounce, firmness, and support to the structure. While you’re likely to sink in through the top layers of foam for a bit of comfort at the shoulders and hips, the coils quickly counteract this sinkage with a pleasantly buoyant lift. This level of support could work well for a wide range of sleepers, but perhaps particularly for those who struggle with back pain. I also think the DreamCloud is one of the best mattresses for hip pain relief. Why? Well, its pocketed coils work to position the hips in line with the shoulders for a healthy, neutral alignment from crown to foot.

Strict side sleepers, however, may find the DreamCloud mattress a bit too firm for their needs. These folks typically want a softer structure that provides plenty of space to sink in for deep pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and lower back.

WinkBed

The WinkBed mattress is available in four different firmness levels: Softer, Luxury Firm, Firm, and Plus. I tested the Luxury Firm option, which I also rated as a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Though the Luxury Firm WinkBed is certainly a supportive bed, it’s also quite pressure-relieving thanks to its gentle pillow top layer. This section provides plenty of room for sleepers to sink in for relief at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. For that reason, I’d recommend it to heavier side sleepers. Back sleepers may also enjoy the combination of pressure relief and support they’ll get from this mattress. Additionally, the WinkBed mattress is that quite bouncy, which is good news for combination sleepers. These sleepers should find it easy to switch positions throughout the night on this bed.

Comparing WinkBed and DreamCloud Mattress Materials

Let’s take a peek inside each of these beds to see why they feel different. They’re both hybrid mattresses, but that doesn’t mean their construction looks the same.

DreamCloud

Cover — The DreamCloud cover is made from a soft cashmere blend that’s been quilted with a bit of foam for comfort.

Comfort Layer — Directly beneath the cozy cover, you’ll land on a layer of gel memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, and will offer body-contouring to sleepers for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips. And while memory foam has a slight reputation for absorbing and trapping body heat, the memory foam here has been infused with a cooling gel to help mitigate this issue.

Transition Layer — A transition layer of poly foam helps curb the sinkage of the memory foam comfort layer and ease the sleeper into the firm section of pocketed coils below.

Support Layer — The bulk of the mattress is made up of this pocketed coil system, which brings a ton of bounce, firmness, and lift to the structure. Folks who want to feel more “on top” of their bed than “in” it could find a lot to love in these sturdy coils. Back pain sufferers may also find that the coils work to position the hips in line with the shoulders for optimized spinal alignment.

Base Layer — Below the coils is a thin layer of poly foam to give the springs something to bounce off.

WinkBed

Cover — Things kick off with a cover made from Tencel, an eco-friendly material that’s cooling and breathable.

Pillow Top — Up top, you’ll spy a gentle Euro pillow top layer that features two sections of gel-infused foam. This section should provide the sleeper with some immediate comfort as soon as they hop in bed. While the DreamCloud might be just a touch too firm for side sleepers, they could actually find a lot to love in the Soft version of the WinkBed’s pillow top layer.

The WinkBed
The WinkBed is a great pillow top option.

Support Layer — As we saw in the DreamCloud mattress, the bulk of the WinkBed is made up of a tall system of pocketed coils. This layer brings a lot of bounce and support to the overall structure, working to position the sleeper more “on top” of the bed than “in” it.

DreamCloud vs WinkBed: Best Qualities

Well folks, we’re officially arrived at the end of this guide. That means it’s time to figure out which one of these mattresses is the right fit for you and your sleep needs. Below, I’m going to share my final thoughts and wrap things up with a few pros for each model.

While both mattresses offer some fantastic support, I think the DreamCloud could be a better fit for couples. The gel memory foam in this bed isolates motion just a bit better than the micro-coil system in the WinkBed. I also think the DreamCloud mattress does a better job of sleeping cool than the WinkBed.

DreamCloud Mattress Back Sleeper
I like the DreamCloud mattress for back sleepers.

For me, the WinkBed mattress is probably going to work best for those who need a little extra pressure relief at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. This isn’t a soft mattress by any means, but could work well for combination sleepers who switch between their side and another position in the night. I’d also add that the WinkBed establishes a nice, traditional innerspring vibe in that it’s bouncy, supportive, and firm.

To get even more specific about my recommendations, let’s summarize a few of my favorite aspects of each mattress.

DreamCloud Best Features

  • The DreamCloud could be a real winner for those who prefer to sleep on their backs. The bed does a fantastic job of lifting and setting the spine in a healthy, neutral alignment.
  • Additionally, hot sleepers may find some cooling relief in this bed. There’s a lot of airflow through the pocketed coil system as well as some pleasant cooling in the top layer of gel-infused memory foam.

WinkBed Best Features

  • The WinkBed has more of an innerspring feel than the DreamCloud, so could work well for those who prefer a traditional feel.
  • I’d also say the pillow top layer brings some pleasant pressure relief to the party, especially for those combo sleepers who occasionally turn onto their side in the night.

Comparing DreamCloud and WinkBed Customer Service

DreamCloud Sleepopolis Customer Service Rating

Satisfactory: DreamCloud got a Satisfactory rating because when I asked a question in their chat function, I was sent a link rather than given an answer. I got what I needed, but I would have rather they answered my question directly.

WinkBeds Sleepopolis Customer Service Rating

Great: I gave WinkBed a Great rating because when I asked a question in their chat function, I received a thoughtful, thorough answer. But, there was a small delay between asking my question and a representative getting back to me.
