- Innerspring Build – The Saatva Classic utilizes a coil-on-coil system, which makes it bouncy and responsive. It also features some gentle memory foam to bring needed pressure relief.
- Cooling – Due to the coils, the Saatva sleeps quite cool as they promote air to flow through the bed.
- Motion Transfer – The Saatva doesn’t do a great job isolating motion. You’re likely to feel big movements from a partner or pet.
- Edge Support – The Saatva Classic has stellar edge support, meaning its perimeter feels as sturdy and supportive as the center of the bed. You should be able to stretch out and use the full surface of the mattress.
- Shipping – It ships free uncompressed and comes with white glove delivery, which means movers will deliver it fully expanded, set it up in your room for you, and take away your old bed if needed.
- Trial Period/Warranty – The Saatva Classic comes with a 365-night trial period and a lifetime warranty.
Saatva Construction
Below, I’ll go over the different layers of the Saatva Classic mattress. It comes in either a 11.5-inch height or a 14.5-inch height.
Construction Specs:
- Top layer – A quilted Euro pillow top with an organic cotton cover and high-density foam. The foam has zoned support — which means it has more support in the center third of the bed to promote spinal alignment. This top layer is where the plushness can differ depending on which model you choose.
- Comfort layer – Then there’s a layer of coils for responsiveness and lumbar support.
- Support layer – Here’s a base layer of coils for extra support and durability. These coils also allow for extra airflow to keep sleepers cool.
- Edge support – The coils have a high-density foam perimeter, which gives the bed really strong edge support — so you can sit or sleep near the edge of it without feeling like you’re going to fall off.
Saatva Firmness Levels
The Saatva Classic comes in three firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. The industry standard for medium-firm is 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. I’ll note that firmness can be subjective since it depends on your body type and weight. Below, I’ll go over the different firmness levels and who I think they’d be best for.
Plush Soft
This model is going to be around a 5 out of 10 on that firmness scale, so this is softer than average — which makes it a great fit for side sleepers who need some pressure relief around their shoulders and hips. I also think it’d be a nice fit for back sleepers who like a softer and plusher feel. I don’t think it’ll be the best for stomach sleepers, though, as it will be too soft for them.
Luxury Firm
The Luxury Firm is going to be about a 6.5 to 7 out of 10, so I’d call it a true medium-firm to slightly firm mattress. This makes it a great choice for back sleepers, and a lot of side and stomach sleepers who like that medium-firm feel. If you’re a combination sleeper who switches between multiple sleeping positions, I think this could be a nice fit. It’s also a nice compromise option for couples who can’t agree on a firmness level.
However, strict side sleepers may want the plusher version for more contouring, and strict stomach sleepers may want the firmer option for more support.
Firm
The Firm model will be about an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Since it’s firmer than average, it’ll be great for back sleepers who prefer that denser support and also a nice pick for stomach sleepers since it’ll keep their hips propped up and spine in alignment. This could also be a good choice for heavier sleepers weighing over 250 pounds.
However, it’ll likely be too firm for most side sleepers, especially those under 250 pounds.
Saatva Mattress Review Summary
The Saatva Classic is a great online luxury option for sleepers of all kinds. Along with most people being able to find a firmness level that should work for their sleep needs, I also really appreciate how supportive and high-quality this mattress is. Couples should enjoy being able to sprawl out on the entire surface of the bed and heavier folks should feel supported on it as well. You also can’t go wrong with the free white glove delivery where movers will set up the bed for you and take your old one away for free.
Which Saatva Firmness is Best for You?
Back Sleepers — I think back sleepers could be happy on all three of these firmness options depending on their personal preference, but I’d recommend the Luxury Firm for most back sleepers.
Side Sleepers — I think side sleepers should opt for the Plush Soft model. Combination side sleepers or those who weigh more than 130 pounds could do the Luxury Firm model, but it won’t provide as much cushioning on their joints.
Stomach Sleepers — Strict stomach sleepers should like the Firm model. They could also try the Luxury Firm model if they’re a combination sleeper or weighing under 130 pounds.
Combination Sleepers — If you switch between multiple sleeping positions at night, the Luxury Firm may be the “happy medium” option for you. Otherwise, I’d think of the sleeping position you sleep in the most and use the recommendations above.
Heavy Sleepers — If you’re over 250 pounds, I think you’ll feel supported and comfortable on the Saatva Classic. Keep in mind a bed will feel softer to those who are heavier and firmer than to those who weigh less.
