Loom & Leaf vs Saatva: Which is Better for You?

We’ll be answering this question in various ways throughout this comparison, but I wanted to get some quick bullet points up so you can start getting an idea of which one of these mattresses might be better for you.
Depending on your body weight, height, and preferred sleeping position, one of these models might work better for you.

Who Should Buy Loom & Leaf

  • If you’re a side sleeper, you may want to consider the Loom & Leaf memory foam mattress. This bed is built with thick top layers of memory foam, which work to relieve pressure at the shoulders and hips.
  • These high-quality memory foam layers also make a good option for those who love a classic memory foam feel.
  • I would also recommend the Loom & Leaf to couples, thanks to its low motion transfer and impressive edge support.

Who Should Buy Saatva

  • If you’re a back sleeper, I’d recommend going with the Saatva mattress. It’s got a ton of firm support, which should help to alleviate tension at the hips and lumbar region.
  • If you’re a combo sleeper who likes bouncing around your bed, you’ll definitely want to give the Saatva a try. This innerspring mattress is buoyant and highly mobile!
  • The Saatva is a better option for heavier sleepers, since its steel coils add more support and durability.

Loom & Leaf vs Saatva: Similarities and Differences

Main Similarities

  • Both the Saatva and Loom & Leaf mattresses are high-quality models made from durable, long-lasting materials.
  • They’re mattress siblings, so they share the same warranty and trial period. Neither of them are bed-in-a-box mattresses and they are both made in the USA.
  • I’d also say that both of these beds are designed to alleviate tension along the spine. However, they do this in pretty distinct ways, which we’ll explore throughout this comparison!
saatva mattress

Main Differences

  • In my opinion, the Loom & Leaf is much softer than the Saatva because it is a memory foam mattress. This will lend it more toward side sleepers, or folks in need of deep pressure relief.
  • The Saatva has a traditional innerspring build, marking it as a much bouncier option than the Loom & Leaf.
  • You’re likely to feel more “on top” of the Saatva and “more in” the Loom & Leaf, so you’ll want to go with the mattress best attuned to your personal preferences.
  • The Saatva comes at a more affordable price point.

Loom & Leaf and Saatva Mattress Feel Comparison

Alright, so now that we’ve gotten all that information tucked and stored away, let’s get to know how these beds actually feel. To do that, I’m going to give you an overview of all the different factors that contribute to their totally distinct vibes. So, we’ll be going over things like firmness levels, pressure relief, motion transfer, cooling, support, sinkage, and much, much more!
But before we do all that, I’d like to acknowledge that feel is always going to be a subjective measure and can change a lot depending on one’s body size, shape, and weight. Therefore, my read of a bed may very well differ from your own!

Personally, I’d give the Loom & Leaf a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, though the group consensus was a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. This means the bed is just a bit firmer than the industry standard for medium firmness levels, so this bed is just about medium-firm.
I think this all-foam mattress achieves a solidly balanced vibe of both pressure relief and support. While you might expect the gentle foam layers of memory foam to dominate the overall feel of the structure, the poly foam transition and base layers actually do a great job of counteracting the sinkage to position the hips in a healthy alignment with the shoulders. That being said, you are still likely to sink pretty deeply into the foam layers — so, if you don’t want to feel cuddled by your mattress, I’d suggest going with another option.
In terms of memory foam, everyone is going to experience this material slightly differently, and you may need to sleep on it for a while before you know how your body will react to it. Heavier sleepers are likely to sink through the material faster, so may feel it as “firmer” than lighter sleepers. Another thing to note is that memory foam has a reputation for trapping and absorbing body heat, resulting in a hot night’s sleep. In my opinion, the Loom & Leaf mattress does sleep quite hot, which may be an issue for folks prone to night sweats.
All in all, I’d say side sleepers will likely enjoy this mattress the most. As they sink into the bed, the top layers of memory foam should offer some snuggly contouring to their shoulders and hips, helping to alleviate jamming and any joint pain. Folks who suffer from arthritis may also find this mattress to be particularly soothing. Back and stomach sleepers, on the other hand, may find the structure a bit too soft for their needs. I would also say the memory foam comfort could make this a nice mattress for seniors
I should mention that the Loom & Leaf comes in two different comfort levels: Relaxed Firm and Firm.

After rolling around the Saatva, I decided to give it a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it’s clear that this is definitely a firm mattress.
The Saatva gets a 7 out of 10 from me because its coil-on-coil construction produces quite a firm mattress. This bed is most similar to the traditional innerspring mattresses that most people likely grew up sleeping on, which means it’s got a lot of bounce and a lot of support. Though this mattress may not be a great fit for those who sleep strictly on their sides, it could do a lot for folks who sleep on their stomachs or backs. It could also be a winner for anyone who likes to move between positions at night.
Why is it so good for these sleepers? Well, the coils in the bed work together to produce a massive lift, which works to position the hips more “on top” of the structure than in it. This helps to set the spine in a nice neutral line all the way from head to foot. This alignment promotes better back health, especially for those who struggle with lower back pain. Additionally, the lift makes for a highly mobile structure, making it easy for folks to move around through different positions.
Another big plus for this mattress is that it actually sleeps pretty cool, especially when compared to the Loom & Leaf. The spaces between the coils promotes a lot of airflow throughout the structure, which helps to dissipate body heat while you snooze. The organic cotton cover is also highly breathable. I should also mention that the Saatva has fantastic edge support, so folks can spread out all the way to the sides of the bed. This could be a major bonus for couples or anyone else who needs to maximize the usable surface area of their mattress.
I should also mention that the Saatva comes in three different firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm (could also be considered a relaxed firm feel), and Firm. The luxury or relaxed firm option is the one I tested for the purposes of this comparison.

Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Loom & Leaf and the Saatva

Every person will feel a mattress differently, because we’re all unique in our own way. Personal traits like your body weight and preferred sleeping position could be a couple of factors in determining whether a mattress would or wouldn’t work for you. Let’s test the Loom & Leaf and the Saatva for a variety of sleepers!

Loom & Leaf

Back — I think that either Loom & Leaf model  would suit the needs of these sleepers, but it will depend on your preference of either a soft or firm mattress.
Side — Side sleepers will love the classic memory foam-feel of the Relaxed Firm Loom & Leaf, as they’ll experience soft relief in both the hips and shoulders.
Stomach — I’d recommend the Firm version of the Loom & Leaf mattress over the Relaxed Firm to these sleepers, since it should offer them better support.
Body Weight — The firm version should work for heavier back and stomach sleepers, while the relaxed firm would work better for heavier side sleepers. I really liked the relaxed firm for light back and side sleepers, but still recommend the firm for my stomach sleepers.

Saatva

Back — The Luxury Firm Saatva option should do wonders for back sleepers, keeping their spine in a neutral alignment, and even relieving pressure!
Side — The Plush Soft Saatva should work for these sleepers, offering them cushioned relief and a contoured feel.
Stomach — The Luxury Firm Saatva should also please these sleepers, thanks to its supportive lift, keeping a healthy spinal alignment and warding off back pain.
Body Weight — Lighter sleepers should do fine on the Saatva, especially since there are numerous firmness levels to choose from. Heavier people should also find comfort here, likely with the Luxury Firm option. The Saatva HD should work for them as well.

Comparing Loom & Leaf and Saatva Mattress Materials

Curious to know why these high-quality beds feel the way they do? Then let’s dig into their respective constructions so that we might know them from the inside out. I’ll go over their unique designs below, but would also encourage you to check out my full individual reviews of the Saatva and Loom & Leaf mattresses.

Saatva

  • Cover – The Saatva cover is made of 100% organic cotton, which creates a soft and breathable feel. It’s also quilted with a bit of foam, providing some immediate comfort as soon as you hop on the bed! This cover comes with a nontoxic, natural thistle barrier and it’s foams are healthier for you and eco-friendly.
  • Comfort Layer – The top layer is made from a 3-inch Euro pillowtop. This layer offers some nice cushioning and pressure relief.
  • Support Layer – A layer of individually wrapped pocketed coils contour to your body’s movement and add some nice bounce, airflow, and support.
  • Zoned Support Layer- There is a layer of memory foam in the center of the Saatva that offers some pressure relief in the middle of the mattress, where sleepers need it most at the hips and lumbar region.
  • Support Layer – Up next lies the main support system of the mattress, which is made here of a sturdy steel coil layer wrapped in foam edge support. This second layer of coils doubles down on the bounce of the top layer, working to evoke the traditional innerspring feel that we’ve been discussing throughout this comparison. But what’s unique about this particular innerspring is that its coils are supported by the aforementioned high-density poly foam edge support. This helps to extend the surface area of the bed, making it possible to snooze all the way to the sides. Couples, take note
Saatva Construction
Opening up the Saatva mattress.

Loom & Leaf

  • Cover – The Loom & Leaf mattress cover is also made from organic cotton, so has a similarly soft and breathable feel to the quilted, organic cotton cover of the Saatva.
  • Comfort Layer – Straight from the jump, you can tell that the Loom & Leaf is going to be super different from the Saatva. Why? Well, things kick off with a thick section of cooling gel-infused memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure that provides plenty of room for the sleeper to sink into the foam layers for contouring relief at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. When compared to the individually wrapped coils of the Saatva, it’s not hard to guess which one is going to be softer (hint: it’s the Loom & Leaf memory foam mattress).
  • Contour Layer – Beneath the first layer of memory foam lies yet another layer of memory foam, which creates an even deeper sink into the mattress. There are a lot of body-contouring benefits to be found in this mattress, so if you’re someone who struggles with shoulder pain or hip pain, I’d definitely recommend checking out the Loom & Leaf mattress.
  • Transition Layer – Next up, you’ll find a transitional layer of poly foam, which has a much quicker response to pressure than the memory foam layers above it. This curbs some of the sinkage and contouring, helping to gradually ease the sleeper into the firm base below.
  • Base Layer – And finally the base, which is made up of high-density poly foam. This firm material gives the mattress its shape and stability

Saatva vs Loom & Leaf: Best Qualities

Well folks, we’ve officially arrived at the end of this comparison. After sizing up these beds against one another, it’s time to outline some of their best qualities. Below, I’ll highlight my expert recommendations for who might like these mattresses most!
First and foremost, I think the Saatva mattress is going to work best for folks after a firm, supportive, and bouncy vibe. This innerspring mattress brings a lot of lift to the slumber party, so could be a natural fit for anyone who wants to feel more “on” their bed than in it. Specifically, I’d recommend this bed for back and combo sleepers. Couples may also enjoy the fact that the high-density poly foam edge support maximizes the usable surface area of the mattress, making it possible to have extra space while sharing the bed.
On the other hand, if you’re a snuggle bug who wants to feel deeply cuddled by your mattress, I’d recommend checking out the Loom & Leaf! This memory foam mattress is outfitted with thick top layers of cooling gel memory foam, which work to contour to the shoulders, hips, and lower back, allowing for a cozy sink into the structure. Side sleepers in particular may enjoy this feel, as well as anyone who struggles with things like joint pain or arthritis. In general, if you like the idea of a memory foam mattress, you’ll probably enjoy the Loom & Leaf mattress.

Saatva Best Features

  • I think back sleepers could be particularly well-suited to the firm support of this innerspring mattress.
  • Combo sleepers may also enjoy the extreme bounce of the coil-on-coil construction, which makes it easy to move around and change positions in the night.
  • And lastly, I’d recommend this bed for couples as the foam edge support maximizes the usable surface area of the mattress.

Saatva Customer Service

At Sleepopolis, we rank a brand’s customer service rating based on our personal interactions with the brand’s customer service team. A brand can either be ranked as Stellar, Great, Satisfactory, or Poor. Since there’s only one brand at play here, my experience was the same for each.

Saatva Sleepopolis Customer Service Rating

  • Satisfactory: There are a lot of options to get help, from immediate online chat to email and phone assistance. However, these functions are buried at the bottom of the site, so they’re not as immediately accessible as other brands. However, I found the people I spoke with to be personable and helpful, even though it did take them a little while to respond.

Comparing Other Models from Saatva

The Saatva Classic and Loom & Leaf mattresses aren’t the only models sold by Saatva. So, let’s dive into a few of the other options you’ll find on the brand’s site!

Zenhaven

  • The Zenhaven is an all-latex mattress made by Saatva. Latex is a naturally buoyant material that also has some fantastic cooling properties.
  • It’s also flippable, so folks can switch between two different firmness options.
  • Since it’s built entirely of all-natural latex, I’d recommend this mattress for combo sleepers or folks who want to sleep extra cool at night.
  • In terms of cost, it’s the most expensive Saatva mattress.

Zenhaven Mattress

Zenhaven 2019

The Zenhaven is extremely durable, so you know you are investing in a mattress that will last a while. Another great perk of this latex bed is that it’s naturally cooling, which hot sleepers should appreciate. You also get two firmness levels in one with this bed since it is flippable.

Saatva Solaire

  • The Solaire is an adjustable air mattress that offers up to 50 different firmness options. This means you’ll have a lot of freedom in choosing the firmness level that’s right for you.
  • The Solaire isolates motion well, so it could be a nice choice for couples as folks aren’t likely to feel too much movement from one side of the bed to the other.
  • The Solaire may lose a bit of air overnight (like any other airbed), which could spell trouble for folks after a more consistent feel.
  • Check out my full Saatva Solaire review to learn more.
