Puffy Cloud
The Puffy Cloud mattress is the brand’s flagship product. It is a 10-inch tall, all-foam mattress with a soft, classic memory foam feel. It provides cushioning for pressure relief and allows you to sink into the material.
Construction Specs:
- Cover: The Puffy Cloud has a polyester-blend cover, which is hypoallergenic and stain-resistant. This mattress cover can be removed and machine washed.
- Comfort Layer: The top layer is two inches of gel-infused memory foam, which Puffy calls “Cooling Cloud foam.”
- Transition Layer: Then is a 2-inch layer of responsive polyurethane foam, which has a firmer feel than the comfort layer. Puffy calls this “Climate Comfort foam.”
- Base Layer: Finally, there’s a support layer of six inches of high-density poly foam, which provides the support and structure of the mattress.
Firmness: 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Compared to 6.5, our standard for medium-firm, this means the Puffy Cloud is softer than average.
Motion Transfer: Low motion transfer, which means the Puffy Cloud isolates motion at the source and prevents it from traveling from one side to the other. This is great for couples, as their movements shouldn’t disturb one another.
Edge Support: Average edge support. This refers to how well the perimeter of the bed bears weight and the Puffy Cloud showed some sagging when we tested sitting and lying along the edge. It wasn’t impressive, but wasn’t terrible for an all-foam bed without any edge reinforcement.
Pressure Relief: The Puffy Cloud showed little pressure buildup on our heat-mapping pressure map for the back sleeping position, but did show some pressure on the shoulder and hip for side sleeping.

- Cover: Like the Puffy Cloud, the Puffy Lux has a polyester-blend cover. It is hypoallergenic and stain-resistant, and can be removed to wash.
- Comfort Layer 1: The first comfort foam layer is a 1.5-inch section of gel-infused foam, which Puffy calls “Cooling Cloud foam.”
- Comfort Layer 2: The second comfort foam layer is a 1.5-inch section of what Puffy calls “Plush Dual Cloud foam,” which is designed to be more pressure-relieving than other memory foams.
- Transition Layer: This layer eases the sleeper from the comfort to the support layer. It is a 2-inch section of poly foam, which Puffy calls “Climate Comfort foam.”
- Support Layer: The support base of this mattress is a 7-inch section of individually wrapped coils, with a foam encasement around the edge for reinforced edge support.
Firmness: 5.5 out of 10. Compared to medium-firm 6.5, this means the Puffy Lux Hybrid is quite soft.
Motion Transfer: Very low motion transfer, meaning you shouldn’t feel much movement at all from a partner or pet moving around on the Puffy Lux.
Edge Support: Average edge support. While there wasn’t too much sinkage for lying on the edge, we saw a lot of sinkage while sitting on the edge.
Pressure Relief: The Puffy Lux showed little to no pressure on our heat-mapping pressure map in the back sleeping position, with a very light amount of pressure forming in the side sleeping position. Overall, these are excellent pressure relief results.

The Puffy Royal is also a hybrid mattress, made with a combo of foams and coils. This mattress is 14 inches tall, making it the tallest of these three mattresses. It is also the most expensive.
Construction Specs:
- Cover: The Puffy Royal has the same polyester-blend, hypoallergenic, and stain-resistant cover which can be removed and washed.
- Comfort Layer: The first foam layer is a 1.5-inch section of gel-infused memory foam.
- Contour Layer: The second foam layer is a 1.5-inch section of a more responsive foam.
- Transition Layer: The Puffy Royal has a 2-inch layer of poly foam, which Puffy calls “Climate Comfort foam.”
- Zoned Support Layer: This 2-inch foam layer is zoned into five support zones and is meant to provide targeted cushioning to the head, neck, shoulder, back, and legs — so it is softer in some areas and firmer in others.
- Support Layer: The final layer is a 7-inch section of individually pocketed coils, with a foam encasement around the edge for reinforced edge support.
Firmness: 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Compared to medium-firm 6.5, this means the Puffy Royal is softer than average. It’s around the same firmness as the Puffy Cloud (also rated 6 out of 10), but firmer than the Puffy Lux (rated 5.5 out of 10).
Motion Transfer: Low motion transfer. This means you shouldn’t feel most movements from a partner or pet on the Puffy Royal.
Edge Support: Better-than-average edge support. We saw some sinkage while sitting on the edge of the Puffy Royal, but felt fairly supported while lying along the edge, with only a small amount of sinkage.
Pressure Relief: The Puffy Royal showed little to no pressure buildup in the back sleeping position on our pressure map. There was a small amount of pressure on the hip in the side sleeping position, but none on the shoulder.

Overall, these three Puffy mattresses provided a softer-than-average feel, with plush and contouring foams that provide some pressure relief. These beds are all good options for back and side sleepers. Couples should be happy with the nice motion isolation on all three of these beds. Additionally, the stain-resistant and washable covers on these mattresses make them a good option for kids, people with pets, or anyone who wants to keep their mattress ultra-clean.
Which Puffy Mattress is Best for You?
Back Sleepers – I think back sleepers can sleep comfortably on all three of these beds. However, the Puffy Lux mattress may be too soft for some back sleepers’ taste, as you’ll find yourself sinking into this bed more than the other two.
Side Sleepers – I think side sleepers can sleep comfortably on all three of these beds, as well. However, the Puffy Lux tested best for side sleeping pressure relief and is the softest, so it is probably the best out of the three for this sleeping position.
Stomach Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend any of these beds to stomach sleepers, as they are overall too soft to keep stomach sleepers’ hips lifted up and out of the mattress. Some lightweight folks under 130 pounds may sleep comfortably on the Puffy Royal, but for most stomach sleepers I would recommend a firmer mattress.
Combination Sleepers – In terms of easy movement, none of these beds are ideal for combination sleepers. None of them are very responsive, though the Puffy Lux is probably the least responsive of the three, as you sink deeply into the material and it takes some effort to move around.
Heavy Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend any of these mattresses to heavy sleepers, who weigh 250 pounds or more. They likely are not supportive enough for people with heavier body types, so I would recommend taking a look at our picks for the best mattresses for heavy sleepers, which are more supportive.
Hot Sleepers – All three beds incorporate materials intended to promote temperature regulation, but the Puffy Royal and Puffy Lux are the best options for hot sleepers, as the coils allow more room for airflow in the mattress.
