“About a half hour after taking the pill, I usually feel calm, relaxed, and a little drowsy,” Matt said. “I usually sleep decently well, and I would say that this helps me wind down faster. I would say it’s probably better for ‘calming’ than for sleep itself. It has a similar effect to sleep-focused drinking tea for me. Calm, but not necessarily knocked out.”

While the serving size is only one tablet, Matt only gave this 2.5 out of 5 for the swallowability. 

“This pill is pretty large,” Matt explained. “You definitely need a glass of water with this bad boy. Multiple customer reviews mentioned this, so it should be included in the review. If you struggle with bigger pills, this is probably not the product for you.”

He added that while the tablet is large, it’s mostly flavorless, and even when he left it in his mouth for 30 seconds to test the flavor, it had a mild earthy taste with hints of lemon and green tea, which he described as “a super mild taste — bordering pleasant.”

While we love most things about this product, there are a few minor callouts from Sydney. She pointed out that the three-capsule serving size is a bit large, and the zinc is dosed at 30mg. Sydney clarified that while this is below the upper limit of 40mg, it’s more than most people need from a supplement. Excess zinc intake can lead to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, which can also be caused by taking zinc on an empty stomach.

Our other callout is the third-party testing, which earns 3 out of 5. Nutricost claims the product is tested, but it’s not clear who’s doing the testing, and there’s nothing about testing anywhere on the bottle. Our team trusts this formula and the company, but this is worth pointing out.

While these gummies may taste like fruit snacks, the formulation is good but not great and only earns 3 out of 5 stars from Sydney Lappe, R.D. 

“The ingredient dosages aren’t fully detailed on the product’s Amazon page, and there’s no indication of the ashwagandha withanolide concentration — an important factor in understanding potency,” Sydney said. “It also contains added sugars, and there’s no mention of third-party testing for safety and purity.”

These gummies also cost about $0.50 per gummy, and with a recommended serving size of two gummies, you’re looking at $1 per serving. This isn’t the most expensive sleep aid we’ve seen, but it’s not cheap. For a more affordable stress relief supplement, we recommend Nutricost Sleep Aid Complex.

This supplement can also be a little gritty, so while some people may love using Calm as an evening drink, we simply decided to choose capsules instead. 

Double Wood Ashwagandha Capsules

Double Wood Ashwagandha is a high-quality product manufactured in a GMP facility. The website provides third-party testing results, which we love to see. However, when we asked Sydney Lappe, R.D., what she thought of this supplement, she noted that the nutrition label was a little confusing. 

“The product doesn’t specify its withanolide content — a key active compound in ashwagandha — so those seeking precise potency may find this a drawback,” Sydney said. “The 20:1 extract ratio can also be confusing for those unfamiliar with herbal concentration terminology.”

It’s a good product with high manufacturing standards. We just wish the dosing was a bit more clear.
