Are spin-offs ever as good as the original? The original WinkBed was a big win for many sleepers and even earned a spot on our list of best innerspring mattresses.
Much like its highly-esteemed predecessor, the WinkBeds Blue Series 2, the latest offering from the US-based bed-in-a-box brand, pulls out all the stops to win over sleepers.
This premium hybrid mattress features a copper-infused Talalay latex and an advanced pocketed coil support system and promises excellent pressure relief, support, and cooling.
The catch? These mattresses are only available in person at SleePare retailers.
So, is the Blue Series 2 worth traveling to your local mattress showroom, and does it measure up to the original WinkBed and the brand’s other offerings? Read on to find out!

The Blue Series 2 is WinkBed’s all-new luxury hybrid mattress. This new offering from WinkBeds is a whopping 17 inches thick and features a quilted cover, Talalay latex, and a 10-inch pocketed coil core for support.
While testing the Blue Series 2, I found that it offers excellent pressure relief and support. Its cooling gel foams and breathable construction also help manage temperature and keep you comfortable throughout the night. I think couples, back and combination sleepers, and folks with mobility issues will get the most bang for their buck from this bed.

WinkBeds Blue Series 2 Mattress Sleepopolis Score
What Is the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 Mattress Made Of?
The Blue Series 2 is a staggering 17-inch hybrid mattress with gel-infused memory foams and a coil support system with edge zoning. Here’s how it breaks down layer by layer.
Cover – The Blue Series 2 mattress’s quilted cover is silky, soft, and comforting. While the brand claims its cover is cool to the touch, I didn’t feel as much while testing it. Thankfully, the bed still feels breathable and airy due to its gel foams and coils.
Comfort Layer – The comfort layer features 3 inches of copper-infused Talalay latex. The natural latex provides a supportive, pressure-relieving sleep experience. While trying out the Blue Series 2 for myself, I felt lifted and supported in every sleeping position.
Transition Layer – Next up is the Blue Series 2’s transition layer, featuring 2 inches of EssentialGel foam to provide even more pressure relief and help keep things cool. This foam layer transitions pressure between the comfort layer and the coil support system at the bottom.
Support Layer – Lastly, the support layer of the Blue Series 2 boasts an advanced 832-pocketed coil support system with edge zoning. This unique design aims to support the body and reduce partner disturbance. After experiencing its edge support firsthand, I can confidently say that this mattress delivers on all fronts, making it great for folks with mobility issues who need help getting in and out of bed.
WinkBeds Blue Series 2 Mattress Firmness
Before I dig into the firmness and feel of the Blue Series 2, it’s important to note that firmness is subjective. A mattress will feel firmer or softer to different sleepers depending on their body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position.
To get a better understanding of how firm the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 feels, I invited a colleague to try out the mattress and give it a firmness rating between 1 and 10. For reference, the industry standard is 6.5 out of 10, or medium-firm.
When I tested the Blue Series 2, my hips sank a little more than the rest of my body. However, I felt lifted and supported overall. The longer I stayed on the mattress, the more I could feel myself sink in, but only very slightly. Similarly, my colleague felt supported and cradled by the Blue Series 2, especially while sleeping on her side.
I gave this mattress a 6 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale, meaning it’s just a bit softer than the industry standard. The Blue Series 2 is a solid choice for most sleepers because of its fantastic support and solid body contouring.

Is the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – The Blue Series 2 should be a good fit for lightweight back sleepers looking for a true medium-firm feel from their mattress. This bed offers plenty of support and pressure relief around the lower lumbar area for these sleepers.
- Light Side Sleepers – This bed should work for most lightweight side sleepers, as it contours to your body the longer you lay on it. However, lightweight side sleepers with sensitive joints may need something a touch softer.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – Lightweight stomach sleepers should have no issues falling asleep on the Blue Series 2. The bed’s pocketed coils and dense foams should give these sleepers the support they need to keep their spines aligned throughout the night.
Is the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – The WinkBeds Blue Series 2 should be a match made in sleep heaven for most back sleepers. This bed offers excellent support, meaning these sleepers should feel supported and lifted while getting the pressure relief they need around the lower lumbar area.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – Side sleepers between 130 and 250 pounds should enjoy sleeping on the WinkBeds Blue Series 2, as it does a good job of cradling your hips and shoulders, especially over time. However, some side sleepers with sensitive joints may prefer a softer bed or one of our best mattresses for side sleepers.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – This mattress should be firm and supportive enough for most average weight stomach sleepers. As someone who falls into this category, I found that my body was supported and my spine stayed perfectly aligned while testing the Blue Series 2. There’s not a lot of sinkage here, so I never felt trapped at any point.
Is the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – This bed is super supportive thanks to its layers of foam and 832-pocketed coil support system. While these sleepers will likely sink more into this mattress, they shouldn’t feel engulfed by this bed. I would recommend this bed to heavy back sleepers who prefer a softer mattress.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – Heavy side sleepers should find that this mattress offers ample support and body contouring, especially around their hips and shoulders. Since these sleepers will likely sink more into the Blue Series 2, they should feel comfortable and cradled by this bed.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – This bed might be too soft for these sleepers since they will probably experience more sinkage on the Blue Series 2. These sleepers will need something firmer to keep their hips lifted and their spines in a neutral position.
WinkBeds Blue Series 2 Mattress Performance
Now that firmness and feel are out of the way, it’s time to dive into some of the other tests I performed on the Blue Series 2. I perform numerous tests on every mattress we review to help readers get an objective view of what sleeping on them every night is like.
Read on to see how the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 performs in areas like motion transfer, cooling, and more.
WinkBeds Blue Series 2 Mattress Pain Relief Performance
Pain relief goes hand-in-hand with pressure relief. Pressure relief refers to a bed’s ability to alleviate tension at pressure points at the hips, shoulders, and back. Folks suffering from shoulder or hip pain will want to find a mattress that provides good pressure relief. These mattresses offer a gentler feel around those sensitive pressure areas.
To test the Blue Series 2’s pressure-relieving abilities, I ran it through our pressure map test. This test involves spreading a specialized mat across the mattress and lying on it in different sleeping positions. The mat then uses thermal imaging to show how much pressure builds on my body. It changes from blue and green for low pressure (with blue signaling no pressure at all) to orange and red for high pressure (with red being the highest pressure). We cover three different areas: back pain, shoulder pain, and hip pain.
As you can see in my test results above, the Blue Series 2 can work miracles for those with back pain, as the graphic is primarily blue and green. Shoulder pain and hip pain are a different story, with a little more green at the hips and shoulders.
My colleague had similar results when using the pressure map on her back. However, we saw some yellows and reds in her hips, indicating pressure buildup.
While this is by no means a bad choice for side sleepers, folks who struggle with tension in these areas might want to look at our best mattresses for hip pain or best mattresses for shoulder pain instead.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer measures how much movement you will likely detect from one side of the bed to the other. If you sleep with a restless pet or have a partner who tends to switch between sleeping positions throughout the night, you’ll want a bed that can effectively trap motion. Prioritizing low motion transfer, or what we also call good motion isolation, can help you sleep soundly, no matter who’s moving around next to you.
Human Test
For the first motion isolation test, I lie on the mattress with a colleague, switch between different sleeping positions, and see how much they feel me roll around. During this test, we take turns moving around on the bed while the other lies still to estimate how much motion someone might detect while sleeping with a partner.
The Blue Series 2 passed the first test with flying colors. We could barely feel each other get in and out of bed, and while we could notice some of each other’s movements as we rolled around, it wasn’t enough to cause a disturbance on the opposite side of the bed.
Water Test
Next, my colleague and I place a full glass of water on the mattress and see how much the liquid moves around with us. If the water has zero to little movement, it’s a safe bet that the mattress has low motion transfer, which is what you want to see.
During the water test, we didn’t see much movement in the glass when getting in and out of bed. My colleague noticed the water shaking more as I switched between sleeping positions, but only a little bit. Based on these observations, individuals with restless partners probably won’t feel them moving around too much at night, which is a plus for couples with combination sleepers.
Seismometer Test
Last but not least is our seismometer test. This test involves dropping a 10-pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches, and 12 inches, then measuring the disturbance it causes. In this case, the bigger the lines on the graph, the bigger the disturbance and the higher the motion transfer.
In the case of the Blue Series 2, the graph shows the most motion at the impact site, but it doesn’t carry over too far to the other side of the bed.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness refers to how quickly a mattress reverts to its original shape after applying pressure. Memory foam usually has a low response to pressure, while hybrid mattresses with coils tend to have a high response to pressure. Combination sleepers who frequently change positions in the middle of the night often prefer a responsive bed because it allows them to move around without much effort.
Fortunately for them, the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 is surprisingly responsive. While I did feel myself sink into the latex and foam layers a little bit as I tested this mattress, I had no trouble switching between different sleeping positions and rolling from one side of the bed to the other. I think combination sleepers who prefer a bed with a softer feel would enjoy this mattress.
Cooling
Many factors determine how cool a mattress stays when you sleep on it. The materials inside the mattress largely contribute to whether it traps heat or releases it. Although memory foams are known for trapping heat, the Blue Series 2’s gel infusion and coils help this bed stay breathable and airy.
I tested the Blue Series 2 with a thermal gun, a device that uses color-coded imaging to measure how much and how quickly a mattress heats up when someone lies down on it.
If it heats more than 15 degrees Fahrenheit, I consider it to have poor cooling capabilities. 10 to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, 5 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, and less than 5 degrees indicates excellent cooling. After taking turns laying on the Blue Series 2 with my colleague, I saw the temperature only go up about 7 degrees, meaning it should keep most sleepers cool at night.
Edge Support
I also tested the edge support on the WinkBeds Blue Series 2. Edge support determines if you can sleep on the edge of the bed without feeling the side of the mattress collapsing under your weight. It can also help you assess its durability and whether it may sag over time.
I noticed the most sinkage on the Blue Series 2 while sitting on the edge of the bed. However, I never felt like I was slipping off at any point. Laying on the edge was even better; I didn’t notice much sinkage and felt supported and comfortable the entire time.
The corners of the Blue Series 2 had the worst edge support overall, but I still felt like I had plenty of support when I pushed down on the mattress to lift myself back up. This is likely due to how tall and thick the bed is (the Blue Series 2 comes in at a whopping 17 inches).
When I measured the sinkage with a yardstick, the layers sank only 3 inches when applying weight to the edge.
The Blue Series 2’s edge support is pretty close to perfect. I would recommend this bed to couples who use the entire surface area of the mattress and sleepers with mobility issues that need help getting in and out of bed.
WinkBeds Blue Series 2 Mattress Performance For Couples
I think the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 is a solid choice for couples. The Blue Series 2 is a hybrid mattress with gel-infused foams and pocketed coils, meaning most couples shouldn’t have to worry about overheating. This mattress is also responsive enough for combination sleepers or couples who move around frequently at night.
The only area the Blue Series 2 might falter in for couples is motion isolation. While I couldn’t feel my colleague’s movements much on this bed, sleepers who wake easily might feel their partner toss and turn at night.

Now that we’ve reviewed everything from the Blue Series 2’s construction to how it feels, it’s time to answer the most important question: is this the right mattress for you? Check out my final thoughts to help you decide!
Who I Recommend the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 Mattress For
- Most back sleepers should enjoy sleeping on the WinkBeds Blue Series 2. These sleepers should experience plenty of support and pressure relief, especially around the lower lumbar region, on this mattress.
- I can confidently recommend the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 to people with mobility issues. This mattress has plenty of edge support to ensure these individuals have no problems getting in and out of bed.
- Combination sleepers should have no issues switching between different sleeping positions on the Blue Series 2. This mattress has surprisingly solid motion isolation without compromising responsiveness.
Who I Don’t Recommend the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 Mattress For
- Couples who wake easily might still need a mattress with better motion isolation. While I could hardly feel my colleague switch between different positions while testing this mattress, I could still detect her movements.
- Heavy stomach sleepers might find that they sink too much into the Blue Series 2. For these sleepers, I would recommend one of our best mattresses for heavy people.

WinkBeds Blue Series 2 Mattress Vs
It’s always a good idea to compare a bed to some of its competitors. Some challengers of the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 include the Saatva Classic and the DreamCloud. These are both well-known brands in the same space with similar features. However, there are some differences you should know about to make a more informed buying decision.
WinkBeds Blue Series 2 vs Saatva Classic
Like the Blue Series 2, the Saatva has a robust pocketed coil support system. However, the Saatva is just a little firmer than the latest offering from WinkBeds, falling right at the industry standard of medium-firm, or 6.5 on the firmness scale.
- Price: Generally speaking, the Saatva is a pricier bed at $1,795 for a queen-sized mattress. The pricing on the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 will depend on what retailer you go to.
- Sleeping position: I think the Blue Series 2 is a good fit for most back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and side sleepers, while the Saatva is a good match for back sleepers and stomach sleepers. The Saatva might be a little too firm for side sleepers, especially those with sensitive joints.
- Cooling: The Blue Series 2 does a slightly better job of keeping things cool than the Saatva classic, likely due to its gel-infused memory foams.
- Body weight: Since the Saatva classic is a little firmer and has a more traditional innerspring feel than the Blue Series 2, I would say it’s a better choice for heavy sleepers. The Saatva Classic offers the additional support these sleepers need to avoid sinking too far into the mattress at night.

Patty, Saatva customerWinkBeds Blue Series 2 vs DreamCloud
The DreamCloud is a luxury hybrid mattress that balances pressure relief and support. This mattress is significantly firmer than the WinkBeds Blue Series 2, coming in at a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: A queen-sized DreamCloud mattress starts at $1,332. The pricing on the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 will depend on what retailer you go to.
- Sleeping position: Both mattresses should offer plenty of support and pressure relief to back sleepers. Side sleepers may prefer the Blue Series 2 for its plush feel and body contouring. Stomach sleepers should enjoy both mattresses, as both beds offer enough support to keep their hips lifted and spines in alignment.
- Cooling: Both beds performed similarly for cooling, likely because they feature gel-infused memory foam and a base with coils.
- Body weight: Most average-weight and light sleepers should have no trouble sleeping on either mattress. Heavier sleepers, on the other hand, might find the Blue Series 2 a bit too soft for their liking.

WinkBeds Blue Series 2 vs WinkBed
The WinkBed is the flagship mattress from the WinkBeds brand. The WinkBed is a more traditional hybrid mattress, made with a combination of foam and a coil system. The original WinkBed is a bit firmer than the Blue Series 2, landing at a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The original WinkBed starts at $1,799 for a queen-sized mattress. The pricing on the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 will depend on what retailer you go to.
- Sleeping position: Both beds should be a good fit for back and stomach sleepers. However, strict side sleepers will benefit more from the body contouring the Blue Series 2 offers.
- Cooling: Both beds performed roughly the same during our cooling test, likely due to their coil support systems and breathable natural latex.
- Body weight: Most average-weight and light sleepers will enjoy both mattresses. However, heavier sleepers might find the Blue Series 2 a bit too soft for their liking.

Sobhana P., WinkBeds customerWinkBed Mattress
The WinkBed is a hybrid mattress that comes in three firmness levels, so most sleepers should find a model that suits their needs. It could also be a good fit for couples, thanks to reinforced edge support.

Sobhana P., WinkBeds customerWinkBeds Blue Series 2 vs EcoCloud
The EcoCloud should appeal to any eco-conscious shoppers out there, as it’s an organic hybrid mattress made with environmentally friendly materials such as Talalay latex foam, organic cotton, and New Zealand wool. It’s responsive and supportive like the Blue Series, but a bit firmer at a 6.5 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale.
- Price: The WinkBeds EcoCloud starts at $1,999 for a queen-sized mattress. The pricing on the WinkBeds Blue Series 2 will depend on what retailer you go to.
- Sleeping position: Both beds should work fabulously for back sleepers and combination sleepers, but the Blue Series 2 is a better match for stomach sleepers and strict side sleepers.
- Cooling: The EcoCloud is just as good at temperature regulation as the Blue Series 2, thanks to its breathable coils and naturally cooling latex.
- Body weight: Both mattresses are supportive enough for most heavy sleepers over 250 pounds. Heavy stomach sleepers might prefer the EcoCloud mattress because it is a tad firmer and should help keep their spine in better alignment.

Our Review Process
At Sleepopolis, our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time laying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.
