To start off, we put each of our mattresses through something called a “Rest Test,” where we lie down on the bed for an uninterrupted 15-minute power nap. This gives us a big-picture assessment of how it performs before we get into some of our more specific tests. Here’s how my colleague Amelia felt napping on the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid mattress:
“The Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid offers a firm feel overall. When I laid down on the bed, I didn’t feel much pressure relief or contouring. Instead, the bed kept me elevated on the surface. I did appreciate how cool-to-the-touch the bed felt, which I think would be a big plus for hot sleepers.”

Who I don’t recommend the Hush Arctic Luxe Mattress for

- I don’t recommend this cooling hybrid mattress to cold sleepers who prefer to stay toasty throughout the night.
How Firm is the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress?
One of the first things you should check when mattress shopping is the firmness level since it has a huge impact on your sleep quality. And since firmness is subjective, I like to also ask my coworkers’ opinions when giving my final firmness rating.
We ultimately came up with a rating of 7 out of 10 for the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid mattress, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. This means the mattress has a firmer feel compared to the industry standard of medium-firm, which is 6.5 out of 10.
The Hush mattress has plush foam layers on top and a thicker, supportive coil system on the bottom, resulting in a mattress that feels firm and supportive. Lying down on it, I didn’t sink into the mattress much and instead, felt like I was lifted and supported. That’s why I think back and stomach sleepers will enjoy the good blend of comfort and support this mattress provides.

- Heavy Back Sleepers – The Hush Arctic Luxe hybrid mattress will feel more medium-firm to heavier back sleepers, so I think they could find it comfortable to sleep on.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – Side sleepers should steer clear of this mattress since it’ll feel too firm for comfort. I recommend looking for a mattress that offers a good balance of softness and support for a good night’s sleep.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I think most stomach sleepers will feel like they’re not supported enough by this mattress. Instead, I recommend more supportive mattress options from our best mattresses for heavy sleepers list.
Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress Pain Relief Performance
Pain and pressure go hand in hand. When there’s a build-up of pressure in one area, you’ll start to feel discomfort in that area, which could develop into recurring pain. If you’re suffering from body pain or want to prevent that from happening, look for a mattress with excellent pressure relief.
To put the Arctic Luxe Hybrid’s pain relief performance to the test, I used a pressure map, which uses heat mapping technology to indicate whether there’s pressure build-up in certain areas along the body while moving around on the mattress. The results are displayed in a color-coded graphic: Blues and greens mean low pressure, while oranges and reds indicate high pressure.
Back Pain – The Hush mattress showed fantastic results for back pain relief, especially for back and stomach sleepers. As you can see, the map shows all blue, with little to no pressure on the lumbar region. On my side, you can see slight pressure forming on my hips and shoulders, so I wouldn’t recommend this for strict side sleepers with back pain.
Shoulder Pain – When it comes to shoulder pain relief, back and stomach sleepers win again. If you sleep on your side, I wouldn’t recommend this mattress as you can see pressure forming on my shoulders after a period of lying down.
Hip Pain – There’s not a lot of sinkage on this Hush mattress, which is good news for back sleepers and some stomach sleepers dealing with hip pain. On the other hand, pressure map results showed that there was noticeable pressure formation on my hips when I turned to my side, so I think side sleepers should look for other options for their hip pain relief.
Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples
Is the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid mattress a good mattress for couples? To find out, we’ll run the mattress through tests that measure its motion transfer, edge support, cooling, and other important mattress features for couples.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer refers to how much movement is transferred from one side of the mattress to the other. If you or your partner tosses and turns a lot at night, consider getting a mattress with low motion transfer to keep sleep disturbances to a minimum.
To put the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid mattress’s motion transfer to the test, I dropped a 10-pound steel ball and dropped it at different heights — four inches, eight inches, and 12 inches — and measured the disturbance it caused. The bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The Hush mattress performed really well on the motion transfer results, which was a bit surprising for a hybrid mattress. Despite the responsive coil layer underneath, the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid’s foam layers did a nice job absorbing movement.
Sex
The best mattress for sex is responsive and allows you and your partner to move around easily. That said, I think the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid mattress is a good mattress for sex. It would’ve been better if it was a bit more bouncy, but I still found it easy to move around on.
Cooling
Two people sharing one mattress means there’s twice as much heat transfer, so couples should sleep more comfortably on a mattress with cooling features or materials. Fortunately, the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid mattress has a cool-to-the-touch cover, cooling foam layers, and airflow-promoting coils that make it a great cooling mattress for hot sleepers.
Edge Support
Edge support refers to how well the perimeter of your mattress can hold weight. A bed with good edge support means you’ll be able to use the full surface area of your mattress without worrying about sliding off the bed and it’s a good sign of the mattress’ durability.
I tested out the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid’s edge support by sitting and lying down on its sides. While sitting, I felt like I sank a bit through the cushy pillow top layer, but the high-density foam encasement around the perimeter still kept me feeling supported. Overall, I think it has good edge support.

The Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid mattress has a 13-inch profile that features cooling materials and triple-zoned support. Let’s take a closer look at each mattress layer below.
Cover – This Hush mattress has a CertiPUR-certified cool-to-the-touch cover that boasts antibacterial properties for a good night’s sleep without worries. It’s made with a Phase Change Material that regulates temperature and wicks away moisture.
Comfort Layer – Its comfort layer is made from a combination of responsive foam and memory foam for a plush, yet firm pillow top feel that’s also bouncy and keeps you from sinking. It also has three built-in cooling layers consisting of Phase Change Material, visco gel memory foam, and cooling graphite.
Foundation Layer – Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid has individually pocketed coils that feature zoned support, wherein higher gauge coils support the back and torso while lighter coils support the head, shoulders, and feet. This arrangement helps promote proper spinal alignment and optimal pain relief.

The Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid is a bed-in-a-box mattress, which means it arrives compressed in a box. You’ll need to unbox it at home, and we recommend having another person help you.
Like most bed-in-a-box mattresses, you’ll need to wait at least 24 hours for this bed to fully decompress. It will need to off-gas for a few hours to release any packing smells, but after that, the smell should dissipate.

My favorite things about the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress
Overall, the thing I’m impressed with the most is the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid’s cooling capabilities. Having three distinct cooling components and a hybrid construction makes this a fantastic cooling mattress for hot sleepers. That, and the fact that it has zoned support, makes it a competitively priced, premium mattress that provides good value for a lot of back sleepers, stomach sleepers, combo sleepers, and couples.
My complaints about the Hush Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress
I mentioned before that I didn’t feel like I sank through the mattress. And while this may be good for some back and stomach sleepers, I think side sleepers won’t get enough pressure relief and comfort. I also think that it’ll feel too firm for sleepers who prefer a mattress with a softer, contouring feel.
