VALEVÅG – Best Overall
Expert Opinion
The VALEVÅG mattress by IKEA is a pocket spring (or innerspring) bed offered in medium-firm and firm models. The mattress has a soft quilted cover, a layer of standard foam, coils with 5 comfort zones, and a layer of stiff felt. The top layer of foam should provide some immediate pressure relief as you transition to the coils below. The coils in the VALEVÅG fluctuate in firmness depending on where your body needs the most support. As you move, the coils should adjust and move with you.
What Customers Say
Based on 420 customer reviews, this mattress has an average rating of 3.8 out of 5 stars. Many customers say the VALEVÅG is a very comfortable mattress despite its cheaper price.
Pros of the VALEVÅG Mattress
- The VALEVÅG has reinforced edges, so you should be able to fully stretch out and use the entire surface of the bed.
- IKEA says this bed reduces motion transfer, so you won’t be bothered by a partner tossing and turning.
- Side and back sleepers can appreciate the medium-firm model. Stomach sleepers may prefer the firm model.
Cons of the VALEVÅG Mattress
- This bed only has one layer of foam, so sleepers looking for deep sinkage and body contouring may not find it here.
- Heavier sleepers (those weighing over 250 pounds) may not find enough support from this bed.
VALEVÅG Alternative – Saatva Classic Mattress
The Saatva’s coil-on-coil construction provides a classic innerspring feel. It’s a good option for combo sleepers, who will want to feel free to switch positions and avoid feeling “stuck” in the mattress. It comes in three firmness levels, so you should be able to find one that suits your needs. The white glove delivery Saatva provides is an added perk and will save you the headache of getting rid of your old mattress (they take it away for free!). For more information, watch our video review.
Similar to the VALEVÅG, the Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress offered in Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm models. This mattress is also offered in two height options: 11.5 inches and 14.5 inches. It’s also constructed with a 3-inch Euro pillow top and two layers of coils, making it a very supportive mattress with excellent pressure relief.
Saatva offers free shipping and free white glove delivery with all mattress purchases. While the VALEVÅG comes compressed in a box, Saatva sends a team to your home to set up the mattress for you in the room of your choice. They’ll even dispose of your old mattress if needed.

ÅNNELAND – Best Hybrid Mattress
Expert Opinion
The ÅNNELAND mattress by IKEA is a hybrid bed that contains three layers of foam and a layer of mini coils. The first layer of high resilience foam is designed to provide initial support and pressure relief, while the memory foam below adds deeper sinkage and body contouring. The final layer of foam contains five zones that fluctuate in firmness depending on what areas need more and less support. The layer of individually wrapped mini springs help give the bed a more balanced feel, offering support and a bit of bounce. The ÅNNELAND is also offered in three firmness options: Firm, Medium-Firm, and Plush.
What Customers Say
Customers seem to think the Medium-Firm model has a softer feel, so we would recommend purchasing the Firm model for additional support. One customer praised the bed for relieving back pain when side and back sleeping.
Pros of the ÅNNELAND Mattress
- The memory foam layer provides sinkage and has a slow response to pressure.
- The mini springs move independently and should offer motion isolation.
- The hybrid construction offers a balanced feel between pressure relief and support.
Cons of the ÅNNELAND Mattress
- Some customers have reported premature sagging and a lack of edge support.
- This mattress has a 9.5-inch profile, so it may not be compatible with taller bed frames.
ÅNNELAND Alternative – Helix Midnight Mattress
The Helix Midnight is amongst Helix’s line of six standard mattresses. It’s known for its more balanced feel, allowing it to accommodate a wide range of sleepers. We also recommend it for couples, as it scored well on our motion isolation, responsiveness, edge support, and cooling tests. For a plusher and more cooling version of this mattress, see the Helix Midnight Luxe. Learn more in our video review.
The Helix Midnight is a hybrid mattress with a medium-firm feel that is great for various sleeping positions and body types. The bed is constructed with a layer of memory foam, two layers of Helix Response foam, a layer of individually wrapped coils, and a bottom DuraDense foam layer. We found this mattress to provide excellent pressure relief at the hips, shoulders, and lower back. Sleepers should appreciate the initial sinkage and body contouring from the top foam layers, while still feeling lifted and supported by the coils below.

ÅBROTTEN – Best Cooling
Expert Opinion
The ÅBROTTEN mattress by IKEA is constructed from three layers of memory foam designed to distribute pressure and offer spinal support. The top layer of plush foam is for sinkage, and the memory foam layer contains five comfort zones for additional pressure relief. The final layer of support foam gives the mattress structure and offers additional support. The ÅBROTTEN also contains Sportswear fibers in its cover, which IKEA says is a temperature-regulating material that can help with cooling.
What Customers Say
Customer reviews note firm support, great motion isolation, and a fair price point from the ÅBROTTEN.
Pros of the ÅBROTTEN Mattress
- It’s offered in medium-firm and firm models, so you can choose the feel that’s best for you.
- The three foam layers are great for people seeking all-foam construction.
- The cooling technology in the top layer can be helpful to hot sleepers.
Cons of the ÅBROTTEN Mattress
- This mattress may not provide enough support to heavier sleepers, who may find more support from an innerspring or hybrid mattress containing coils.
- Sleepers looking for a softer mattress may find the ÅBROTTEN too firm.
ÅBROTTEN Alternative – Nectar Classic Mattress
The Nectar delivers a balance of comfort and support: it’s definitely contouring, but still provides a firm enough foundation for most light to average weight sleepers, especially if they sleep on their back or stomach. Plus, a lengthy trial period, lifetime warranty, and affordable price make the Nectar a reassuring choice for many. Watch our video review to learn more.
Like the ÅBROTTEN, the Nectar Classic is an all-foam mattress containing cooling technology. The Nectar comes with a lightweight fabric cover, therapeutic memory foam, Dynamic Response foam, and sturdier memory foam toward the bottom. We tested the Nectar Classic for cooling using a thermal gun to record how much it heated up after we laid on the bed for five minutes. We found that the mattress only heated up by 5.9 degrees, which indicates good cooling. These are excellent results for a memory foam mattress.

VESTERÖY – Best for Side Sleepers
Expert Opinion
The VESTERÖY mattress from IKEA is an innerspring bed with a medium-firm feel. This mattress has a simple construction that’s typical for innerspring beds: just a layer of standard foam and a layer of pocketed coils. These coils were designed to move independently from each other, which can prevent motion transfer when you toss and turn. With a medium-firm feel and extra foam in the cover, IKEA says the VESTERÖY is a good choice for side sleepers.
What Customers Say
Customers seem to think the VESTERÖY has a soft feel that still offers solid support, which is great news for side sleepers.
Pros of the VESTERÖY Mattress
- The coils add bounce, which makes it easy for combination sleepers to switch positions.
- The individually wrapped coils help this bed isolate motion.
- The medium-firm feel is nice for couples, as it can appeal to a variety of sleeping positions and body types.
Cons of the VESTERÖY Mattress
- Stomach sleepers may find this mattress too soft to keep their hips in line with their shoulders, which can lead to back pain over time.
- Sleepers looking to feel “on top” of the mattress may want a bed with less sinkage.
VESTERÖY Alternative – Nolah Evolution Mattress
The Nolah Evolution’s hybrid construction offers the cushioning of memory foam with the responsiveness of coils. The Luxury Firm model is a good option for side and back sleepers due to its medium-firm feel, though there are Plush and Firm versions as well. Those who share a bed may also appreciate its low motion transfer, so you won’t be disturbed by a partner’s movements and its solid edge support to allow you to maximize surface area. For more information, check out our video review.
The Nolah Evolution mattress is a 15-inch tall hybrid bed offered in Plush, Luxury Firm, and Firm models. The bed is built with a luxurious cotton cover, two layers of cooling proprietary foams, another layer of durable foam, and a layer of sturdy HDMax Eco Support Coils. Together, these materials give the mattress strong edge support, as well as effective cooling properties. We think the Plush or Luxury Firm models will provide the most pressure relief and support for side sleepers. We used a pressure sensing mat to test the Nolah Evolution and found impressive contouring at the shoulders and hips when side sleeping.

VINGELEN – Best Euro Top
Expert Opinion
The VINGELEN from IKEA is a high-quality hybrid mattress with a plush Euro top. The Euro top is made from thick foam that provides an initial soft feel. The bed contains plush foam with lots of sinkage, high-resilience foam, and two layers of S-core pocketed springs organized in a wave shape. IKEA says the coil-on-coil construction helps with spinal alignment and can ease pain. These coils also add space to the mattress, which can allow for better airflow and breathability. The bed has an overall soft and plush feel, making it ideal for side and combination sleepers.

- The reinforced edges make the bed a good choice for couples or people with mobility issues seeking strong edge support.
- The seven comfort zones fluctuate in firmness, depending on where the body needs more pressure relief and more support.
- The layer of high-resilience foam should prevent the sleeper from sinking too far into the mattress.
Cons of the VINGELEN Mattress
- People looking for a firm mattress with minimal cushioning may not like the VINGELEN.
- Stomach sleepers should look for a firmer mattress, as they’re likely to sink too far into the VINGELEN’s soft layers.
VINGELEN Alternative – Bear Elite Hybrid Mattress
The Bear Elite Hybrid uses foam and coils for a mix of support, cushioning, and cooling. While designed for athletes prioritizing wellness and recovery, sleepers of all activity levels can enjoy the many luxurious features. What our tester says:
“I’d recommend the Bear Elite Hybrid for most back and stomach sleepers.I think these sleepers will get the needed pressure relief and contouring around the lower back and hips. This mattress does a wonderful job at offering body contouring while still helping the sleeper stay elevated and lifted as well. The layers of foam should provide comfort while the coil system should offer lots of support.” – Nichole Mondshein, lead reviewer and mattress tester
The Bear Elite Hybrid is Bear’s luxury model with a hand-quilted cooling cover that feels very similar to a Euro top. The bed is offered in Soft, Medium, and Firm options, so you can choose the feel that’s right for you. Underneath the cover is a layer of copper-infused memory foam, breathable comfort foam, two layers of individually wrapped coils, and a high-density foam base. This bed offers plush contouring and sinkage that’s balanced by the supportive coils below to promote pressure relief and spinal alignment.

According to IKEA, these springs are uniquely designed to move when you do, so your spine is always supported. VÅGSTRANDA Alternative – Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Mattress
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress combines a foam comfort layer and sturdy coils. This combination of materials makes it bouncy and easy to move around on. ÅSBYGDA – Best Firm
Expert Opinion
The ÅSBYGDA mattress from IKEA is an all-foam bed that was designed to have a firm feel while still being a comfortable sleeping surface. The top layer of memory foam has a slow response to pressure and that helps cradle sensitive joints. The bottom layer of foam below contains five zones, each with a different firmness to properly support the shoulders and hips. Stomach and back sleepers who prefer a firm feel are the ideal candidates for the ASBYGDA mattress, as it should keep the hips and shoulders aligned to promote proper spinal positioning.

Many reviews claim that this bed is very comfortable and easy to assemble. Some customers have reported reduced back pain, too.
Pros of the ÅSBYGDA Mattress
- Stomach sleepers should find enough support to prevent their hips from sinking too far into the bed.
- People with spine and joint pain may find relief on this bed.
- Memory foam lovers can appreciate the top layer of comfortable memory foam.
Cons of the ÅSBYGDA Mattress
- Some customers say this firm mattress isn’t firm enough for their liking.
- This bed does not have reinforced edges or coils, so it may sag over time.
ÅSBYGDA Alternative – Plank Firm Mattress
The Plank Firm more than lives up to its name with its ultra-sturdy foams and supportive feel. While this bed certainly isn’t for everyone, it should be an ideal fit for back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and combination sleepers who want to feel more on top of their mattress than in it. For more information, check out our video review.
The Plank Firm is a flippable mattress that has a different firmness level depending on which side is face-up. This bed is an all-foam mattress like the ÅSBYGDA and is packed with supportive and comforting foams. The “firm” side of the Plank Firm falls at a 7.5 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale, meaning it’s definitely firm while still providing a bit of cushioning. The “extra-firm” side falls at an 8.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and is one of the firmest surfaces we have tested at Sleepopolis. This side has little to no sinkage and could be great for heavy sleepers or stomach sleepers who both require lots of lift and support.

Should You Buy an IKEA Mattress?
The best perk about IKEA products, especially mattresses, is their low price point. With a 25-year limited warranty, IKEA beds are priced below market value and also come with good sleep trial periods and return policies should you decide it’s not a fit. At the same time, IKEA sells mattresses that aren’t as high-quality as higher-end mattresses with bigger price tags. So we recommend these products to anyone who needs a bed during a transitional period or for a temporary reason — a sublet in a new city, college dorm, etc. IKEA may offer the best option for these folks, especially since it wouldn’t be a huge investment.
