DreamCloud Mattress Overview
The high-quality materials of the DreamCloud remind me of a mattress you’d find in a high-end hotel. It’s also 14 inches in height, which is taller than many other mattresses and gives it an added sense of regality, not to mention durability and support.
The only downside to the DreamCloud’s height is that it makes it heavier than some other luxury hybrid mattresses. However, it does include handles on the side to assist with moving it into your home and setting it up. I should also say that this is a bed-in-a-box mattress, meaning that it arrives at your door rolled up and compressed. There’s usually a 24- to 48-hour off-gassing and decompression period after it’s unpackaged. If this is a concern to you, I’d recommend leaving your bedroom windows open and not putting sheets on your new bed for at least 24 hours. Any smell should dissipate after at most 72 hours.

What Is the DreamCloud Mattress Made of?
The DreamCloud combines gentle foam layers with a tall section of pocketed coils for a one-two punch of pressure relief and support. There are some cooling properties incorporated into the construction to keep temps low at night. To see how all of this comes together, let’s dive into the bed’s construction.
Cover – The DreamCloud’s cover is made with a special cashmere blend, which is soft, luxurious, and cozy. It’s quilted with foam for added plushness.
Comfort Layer – Beneath the cover, you’ll land on a gel memory foam layer. This material has a slow response to pressure, allowing the sleeper to sink in for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips. While memory foam has a slight reputation for absorbing and trapping body heat, DreamCloud has managed to mitigate this issue by infusing its memory foam with some cooling gel.
Transition Layer – Up next, you’ll find a transitional layer of poly foam, which has a quicker response to pressure than the material above it. This layer eases the transition from the soft memory foam comfort layer into the firmer section of coils below.
Support Layer – Here is where you’ll find the main support system of the mattress, which is made up of a tall section of individually wrapped coils. This springy layer brings a lot of bounce, firmness, and support to the bed. The spaces between the coils promote nice airflow, which work with the gel memory foam to increase the cooling of the mattress.
Base Layer – Last but not least, we find a thin section of poly foam. You won’t feel this layer too much, as it mostly serves to give the coils something off of which to bounce.
DreamCloud Mattress Firmness
As with any feel factor, firmness is a subjective measure that changes depending on your body type. Your size, shape, and weight are all factors. Therefore, my read of the DreamCloud could differ from your own, so I like to incorporate my coworkers’ opinions into my final firmness score.
After stretching out on the DreamCloud and getting my colleagues’ input, I decided to give it a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, this bed is slightly above medium-firm.
The DreamCloud got a 7 from me because it strikes a nice balance between pressure relief and support. There’s some gentle cushioning up top, as well as some firm bounce in the bed’s core. I think this feel could work well for back sleepers and combination sleepers who switch sleeping positions at night, or anyone who likes to feel more lifted up by their bed rather than stuck in it.

We recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 250 pounds).
As a general rule, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average weight sleepers and tend to sink into the mattress more.
As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers tend to need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.
Is the DreamCloud a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – These sleepers should get plenty of support from the DreamCloud mattress. They’ll feel “on top of” this bed and should be able to maintain a neutral spinal alignment.
- Light Side Sleepers – Light side sleepers could be comfortable on the DreamCloud, especially if they alternate between their side and another position at night. However, I think it will be too firm for strict side sleepers and recommend a softer bed for more cushioning. - Light Stomach Sleepers – Light stomach sleepers should feel comfortable on the DreamCloud since it will feel firmer to them than heavier sleepers.
Is the DreamCloud a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – The DreamCloud should feel comfortable to these sleepers. They’ll get a nice balance of pressure relief and support on this bed.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – Although I think the DreamCloud will be comfortable for some of these sleepers, strict side sleepers of average weight might find the mattress too firm. I’d recommend they check out some of our best mattresses for side sleepers instead.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – Where this mattress is too firm for strict side sleepers, it’s also too soft for strict stomach sleepers. These folks tend to prefer firmer structures that lift the hips in alignment with the shoulders, which this bed didn’t excel in. Is the DreamCloud a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
Heavy Back Sleepers – Heavy back sleepers could get the support they need from the DreamCloud. But if you’re looking for something even more durable, one of the best mattresses for heavy people might be a better fit.
Heavy Side Sleepers – Heavy side sleepers could sink too far onto this bed’s coil layer, creating uncomfortable pressure points. I’d steer these folks towards a mattress with deep compression support, like some of the beds in the article above.
Heavy Stomach Sleepers – Heavy stomach sleepers will likely find the DreamCloud too soft. I think their hips will sink into its top foams, throwing them out of alignment with their spines and creating back pain over time.
DreamCloud Mattress Performance
We test a variety of different performance factors in each of our reviews, with a few of them being edge support, and pressure relief. This allows us to make even more specific recommendations that go beyond sleeping position and body type. Let’s take a closer look at how the DreamCloud functions in all of these different areas.
DreamCloud Mattress Pain Relief Performance
To relieve pain, a mattress needs to have the right balance of support and pressure relief. The DreamCloud is supportive enough to help relieve and prevent pain, but let’s take a second here to analyze its pressure-relieving capabilities.
Pressure relief refers to a bed’s capacity for alleviating tension at sensitive spots along the body, like the shoulders, hips, and lower back. To measure this, I use a pressure map. As I move around on a specialized mat, it tracks the force I’m exerting on the bed to create a colored “map” of my pressure points wherein green/blue areas indicate zones of “low pressure” and orange/red areas indicate zones of “high pressure.”
Also, before looking over the results, you’ll want to take your sleeping position into account. For example, we don’t recommend either the DreamCloud to side sleepers. So they’ll want to steer clear of this mattress, even though the pressure map shows some nice relief at the shoulders, where side sleepers put a lot of pressure. Consider your sleeping position first, then the results of the map.
As you can see on the right, the DreamCloud does a stellar job relieving tension around the lower back. As I sank into this bed, I could feel its top layers of foam filling in the space at my lumbar region for some pleasant pressure relief. There’s also some soothing relief for shoulder pain, with just a tinge of green among all the blue. Sleepers with hip pain, however, might find the DreamCloud a too firm, as indicated by the yellow spots in that area. I’d recommend they check out one of our best memory foam mattresses instead, which should give them a deeper sense of contouring.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer refers to how much movement ripples across a mattress when you move around. A mattress with low motion transfer is certainly a perk for couples because it means they’ll avoid feeling disturbed by a restless partner at night.
To test out motion transfer, I first just lie down on the mattress with a colleague. We both roll around and see how much we can feel the other’s motions. I then fill a wine glass, place it on the bed, and we move around some more. If the liquid isn’t sloshing around too much, the mattress probably has low motion transfer.
Finally, I measure vibrations across the mattress with a seismometer. To do this, I drop a 10-pound steel ball from heights of four inches, eight inches, and 12 inches, then measure the disturbance it causes: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
These seismograph motion transfer results weren’t impressive, but I thought the DreamCloud performed well when I laid on one side of the bed and had my coworker move around on the other side. Overall, I thought it did a decent job, especially for a hybrid mattress that’s bouncy. I think you’re still likely to be bothered by your partner’s more significant movements at night (like getting in and out of bed), but you shouldn’t notice any small movements.
Responsiveness
If a mattress is responsive, it makes it easy for you to move around and change positions. This is a perk for both sex and combination sleeping. We test out responsiveness by pressing into its surface, removing our hand, and seeing how quickly the top of the mattress returns to its original shape. We also see how easy it is to roll around while lying down. We found the DreamCloud to be highly responsive: bouncy, springy, and with an on-top-of-bed feel.
Cooling
For cooling, we consider a mattress’s construction as well as data taken from our thermal gun test. The DreamCloud is made with high-quality materials and has gel infusions, which help the bed sleep super-cool. Its wrapped coils encourage airflow because there’s so much space between the springs. There should be plenty of breathability. As you can see with the thermal gun results below, the mattress only increased 7 degrees after one of our testers rested on the bed for 10 minutes. We consider anything under an 8 degree increase great cooling.
Edge Support
Edge support is a measure of how supported you’ll feel on the side of your bed. A mattress with strong edge support feels larger, with plenty of room for sleepers to spread out. The DreamCloud has strong edge support, thanks to its pocketed coil layer.
DreamCloud Mattress Performance for Couples
Couples have specific mattress needs that solo sleepers don’t. Several of the above performance factors are especially important. In the case of the DreamCloud, we found it to have excellent cooling, which is amazing news for anyone who sleeps two bodies to a bed instead of just one. There’s also strong enough edge support for two people to spread out and a high amount of responsiveness for sex.
The only area where the DreamCloud falters for couples is motion isolation. If you or your partner are an especially light sleeper, we recommend looking for a mattress that doesn’t transfer so much motion. But if you’re both deep sleepers, you should be happy with this bed.

The DreamCloud’s combination of gel memory foam and sturdy springs makes it more durable than your standard all-foam beds. The individually wrapped coils in its support layer also help contribute to its strong support, which is another good indicator of longevity.
I also appreciated the strong edge support the DreamCloud provides. I felt confident sitting or lying near the edges without experiencing any significant sagging, which can often be a concern with lower-quality mattresses. The DreamCloud is constructed in a way that balances coils and foam to ensure that it maintains its shape and support, even after extensive use.
Based on my hands-on experience with the DreamCloud mattress, I think it will perform exceptionally well over time. I found it consistently comfortable and supportive while showing no noticeable wear. Thanks to its solid construction and quality materials, I expect it to show minimal signs of wear and tear by the three-year mark.
Looking ahead to ten years, while every mattress will show some signs of aging, I believe the DreamCloud will still retain its structural integrity and outpace many competitors in the market. Overall, I think this bed is in it for the long haul and is a worthy investment for buyers looking to upgrade their current sleep setup.

Who I Recommend the DreamCloud Mattress For
- First and foremost, I’d recommend this mattress for back sleepers. The balanced feel of firm supportive foam and gentle pressure relief could be a real winner for these folks.
- Couples may enjoy the extra support of the bed’s pocketed coil section and how durable the mattress is.
- I’d say the DreamCloud sleeps pretty cool and offers temperature regulation, making it a nice pick for hot sleepers.
Who I Don’t Recommend the DreamCloud Mattress For
- Strict side sleepers will likely find that the mattress is too firm for their needs. I’d recommend that these folks look at our best mattresses for side sleepers for beds offering deeper pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.

Does the DreamCloud need a box spring?
Nope, not unless you want one. The DreamCloud mattress can be placed on the floor or a standard bed frame. However, if you’d like to add a little extra height to your bed, you can always set the DreamCloud on a box spring.
Does DreamCloud offer a sleep trial period and warranty?
Yes, DreamCloud offers a 365-night trial period, so you have a full year to make sure you love it. DreamCloud also offers a lifetime warranty on their mattresses, which is a great sign their beds will be long-lasting.
How does the DreamCloud ship?
The DreamCloud ships free to your door in a compressed box.
Does the DreamCloud ship to Canada?
Yes. DreamCloud offers free shipping to most of Canada for all of its mattresses — including the flagship model — although some customers in Yukon or the Northwest Territories may have to pay an extra shipping free.
How long do DreamCloud mattresses last?
With a thoughtful construction and quality materials, most DreamCloud mattresses should last folks between 7 to 10 years. To lengthen the life of your mattress, we recommend rotating it 180 degrees every 6 to 12 months.
Is the DreamCloud good for side sleepers?
While testing, we found the DreamCloud mattress should be comfortable for lightweight and average-weight side sleepers who like a firmer feel. However, we’d sooner recommend these folks the DreamCloud Premier, which is a luxury DreamCloud model with enhanced pressure relief.

DreamCloud vs Nectar
Where as the DreamCloud is a firmer hybrid mattress, the Nectar is a softer all-foam mattress. It gives you that classic memory foam feeling: a lot of sinkage and deep pressure relief.
- Price: Hybrid mattresses tend to be more expensive than foam beds, and that’s definitely the case with the DreamCloud and Nectar. The Nectar typically runs a few hundred dollars cheaper before discounts.
- Sleeping position: Both mattresses should be a nice fit for back sleepers, but the Nectar is the better fit for side sleepers since it gives them a lot of contouring at the shoulders and hips, where they put the most pressure. The more responsive DreamCloud is better for combination sleepers. Neither option is sufficient for stomach sleepers, who will likely need more firmness and support.
- Cooling: Memory foam mattresses tend to sleep hotter than hybrid mattresses, so we recommend the DreamCloud for this category, especially when considering its gel infusions and airflow-promoting coils..
- Body weight: The DreamCloud should be supportive enough for heavy back sleepers over 250 pounds, but not heavy side sleepers or stomach sleepers. We don’t recommend the Nectar for heavy sleepers of any sleeping position.

The Saatva is a luxury innerspring mattress that comes in three different firmness levels that sleepers can choose from, while the DreamCloud is offered in one firmness level. Even though both mattresses are supportive and responsive, they do have some differences that we’ll outline below.
- Price: The Saatva usually usually runs a lot more expensive than the DreamCloud.
- Sleeping position: Because they’re supportive and responsive, both mattresses are a solid choice for combination sleepers, as well as back sleepers who need a neutral spinal alignment. We recommend that stomach sleepers opt for the Saatva. Side sleepers might also be comfortable on this mattress’s Plush Soft model.
- Cooling: Both of these mattresses are fantastic cooling options, but we give the Saatva a slight advantage since it has two layers of coils (which promote airflow) instead of just one.

DreamCloud vs Helix Midnight
Like the DreamCloud, the Helix Midnight is a hybrid mattress — albeit one that’s a bit softer (we rated the Helix Midnight at a 6 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale, where the DreamCloud is a 7). It’s also a little bit less responsive and has less luxury features, although you can upgrade to the more expensive Helix Midnight Luxe.
- Price: The DreamCloud is usually more expensive than the Helix Midnight, although the prices are sometimes comparable after discounts.
- Sleeping position: We think the DreamCloud is the better match for combination sleepers because it’s so responsive, and the Helix Midnight is the better match for side sleepers because it’s softer. Both beds are geared towards back sleepers.
- Cooling: We found that both mattresses had equal cooling capabilities, thanks to their airflow-promoting coils. Hot sleepers should be comfortable on either option.
- Body weight: Heavy back sleepers could be comfortable on either option, and heavy side sleepers may find the pressure relief they need in the upgraded Helix Midnight Luxe. Neither option is ideal for heavy stomach sleepers.

- Sleeping position: Both mattresses have an optimal blend of comfort and support for back sleepers. The DreamCloud Premier is the better choice for stomach sleepers, and I don’t think either one is a fair match for side sleepers of average weight.
