WinkBed Gravity Lux Mattress – Video Review
Is the GravityLux a Good Mattress for You?
The Firm GravityLux is a very firm mattress that doesn’t offer the sinkage you’d normally associate with a traditional memory foam mattress. If you’re interested in a softer or more traditional feel I’d highly recommend checking out one of the other firmness levels this bed-in-a-box is offered in. If not, take a look below to see who the Firm version of the GravityLux might be a good fit for!
Who I Recommend the GravityLux Mattress for
- Stomach or back sleepers who want a firm feel that still offers a bit of body-contouring hug could really like the GravityLux. This mattress offers some initial pressure relief but is quite firm.
- Heavy sleepers (over 250 pounds) could really like this bed. This durable mattress should be able to support additional body weight.
- Couples could enjoy the firm edge, good motion isolation, and cooling technology in this mattress! Not sure what all of those terms mean? Don’t worry, I’ll define them all in the performance section below.
Who I Don’t Recommend the GravityLux Mattress for
- Side sleepers who need a lot of extra cushion around their pressure points will probably find the GravityLux much too firm. I’d recommend they check out the soft or medium model of this mattress, or take a look at our best mattresses for side sleepers.
- Sleepers looking for a traditional memory foam feel that features slow-moving sinkage won’t find what they want in this bed. It’s actually fairly responsive because it’s so firm. I’d check out our best memory foam mattresses roundup or consider one of the softer GravityLux models instead.
- The GravityLux sleeps much cooler than a traditional memory foam mattress, but it won’t feature as much airflow as a high-quality innerspring mattress. So especially hot sleepers might want to check out one of our best cooling mattresses instead.
How Firm is the GravityLux Mattress?
Let’s kick this section off by talking about the GravityLux’s firmness level! Firmness is highly subjective, and can change a lot depending on your body weight and preferred sleep positions. Therefore, I think it’s important to incorporate a few different opinions into my firmness test. The score you see below is the composite of me and my coworkers’ personal firmness ratings.
As expected of a firm mattress, we all found this bed quite firm! I gave it a 7.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. The industry standard for medium-firmness is a 6.5 out of 10, so the GravityLux is a true firm mattress. Sleepers looking for the more medium-soft feel of traditional memory foam beds should consider one of the softer GravityLux models.
Personally, I sank through the memory foam layers quickly, and interacted pretty directly with the Atlas Core Foam at the base of this mattress. This meant the GravityLux felt more like a firm foam mattress with a memory foam pillow top than a traditional memory foam mattress to me. Rather than deep sinkage and slow-moving pressure relief, I felt some initial pressure relief followed by nice firm support.
The WinkBeds GravityLux is a memory foam mattress that has a firmer feel. It's going to be a great choice for sleepers who love the contouring feel of memory foam, but want a solidly firm bed. I'd recommend this bed mainly to back and stomach sleepers.

GravityLux Mattress Performance
To get an even better sense of the GravityLux, let’s run it through a few of my favorite tests to see how it performs for different body weights, people with pain, and couples.
Testing the WinkBeds GravityLux Mattress in Different Sleeping Positions
Intro this section saying different sleeping positions/weights need different amounts of support. Then run through the following:
Is the WinkBeds GravityLux a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – These sleepers will find the GravityLux very firm, but back sleepers who enjoy a firm feel should feel comfortable on this bed.
- Light Side Sleepers – The firm model of the GravityLux is super firm, and I think strict side sleepers will feel stiff or sore around the hips and shoulders if they sleep on this bed. I’d recommend the Soft model of the GravityLux or one of our best soft mattress options instead.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – I normally recommend stomach sleepers avoid memory foam mattresses to prevent their hips from sinking into the bed and throwing their spines out of alignment. But the GravityLux’s firm support should keep these sleepers’ hips elevated and supported while its top layer of memory foam offers a more cuddly feel than most other firm mattresses might. I think this could be one of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers who like a memory foam feel.
Is the GravityLux a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – These folks will feel a little pressure relief as the top layer of memory foam fills in their lumbar region. But, they’ll sink through this layer onto the firm base almost immediately, so should get a lot of nice support as well.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – This bed will feel much too firm to these sleepers. They should opt for the Soft model to get the pressure relief they need around the shoulders and hips.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – Stomach sleepers who want a cozy feel might especially like this bed. These sleepers need firm support to keep their spines neutrally aligned, which the GravityLux definitely offers, but it also offers a little nice pressure relief in this position.
Is the GravityLux a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – These sleepers should find the Winkbed comfortable. They might get a bit more sinkage from this bed than other sleepers, which could add some nice pressure-relief.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – This bed will likely be too firm for these sleepers. Since I have not personally tested the softer models of this mattress, I’m not sure how they’ll perform for heavier folks. However, WinkBeds tends to make durable, long-lasting mattresses that heavier sleepers should enjoy, so the Medium model of this bed could work for heavy people who like a softer feel.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – This bed might offer a little too much sinkage for these folks. If you’re a heavy stomach sleeper I’d recommend the WinkBed Plus mattress, a hybrid mattress designed specifically for heavier people.
GravityLux Pain Relief Performance
A great way to predict a mattress’s ability to relieve pain is to assess its pressure relief. When assessing a bed’s pressure relief (aka its ability to alleviate tension at the shoulders, hips, and lower back), I like to use a pressure map. I roll this device out, hop aboard, and let it track the force my body exerts on the mattress in real time. Areas of low pressure are shaded in blue to green and areas of high pressure are shaded in yellow to red.
Back Pain — Based on the almost totally blue pressure maps above, the GravityLux is a great option for combatting back pain if you’re a back sleeper. But, if you like some more pressure relief at the lower back, I’d recommend opting for the Medium model of this mattress. I also think it’s a good option for stomach sleepers with back pain. However, side sleepers with back pain will want a softer option.
Shoulder Pain — This is a nice fit for a lot of back sleepers with shoulder pain, but a softer model will give more pressure relief. It’s also a good choice for stomach sleepers with shoulder pain. You’ll only see a little green around my shoulders on the map when I’m on my side, but I think this mattress is a bit too firm for side sleepers with shoulder pain. I’d recommend the Soft or Medium model instead.
Hip Pain — Back sleepers with hip pain should get some nice support from this mattress, but a softer bed might will offer more pressure relief. Stomach sleepers with hip pain should feel comfortable on this bed, as it will keep their spine aligned. You’ll see a touch of green around my hips on the map when I’m on my side. Though this doesn’t indicate a ton of pressure, I think the firm feel of this mattress will lead to some soreness around the hips. I’d recommend opting for the Soft or Medium model of this bed if you struggle with hip pain as a side sleeper.
GravityLux Performance for Couples
Couples tend to do best on a mattress with low motion transfer, enough responsiveness for sex, some cooling features, and good edge support. Read on below to learn about those terms and see how the GravityLux performs.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is the amount of movement detectable from one side of the bed to the other. If you sleep with a partner, it’ll clue you in to the disturbances you’re likely to feel as they toss and turn in the night.
To illustrate motion transfer, I dropped a 10-pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
These are solid motion transfer results, which tells me you shouldn’t be too bothered by your bedmate’s nighttime movements. I’m not too surprised by this, as memory foam is traditionally very effective at dampening motion. If both you and your partner like a firm feel, I think the GravityLux could be a great fit!
Sex
The best mattress for sex is easy to move around and change positions on. The GravityLux’s firm feel makes it really easy to move around on this bed, making it a great option for sex.
Cooling
Two people create more body heat than one, so couples often prefer cooling mattresses. The GravityLux sleeps much cooler than traditional memory foam mattresses, and I think it’s cooling enough to feel comfortable to couples. But if you sleep very hot, a latex mattress could be a better fit.
Edge Support
Edge support is a measure of how supportive the sides of your new mattress are. A mattress with good edge support will allow you to spread out over its entire surface area. This is an especially nice perk for couples and heavier people.
The GravityLux’s edges felt nice and strong to me! I felt supported sitting and lying on the side of this bed. I’d definitely recommend this mattress to couples or heavy people looking for a bed with durable edges.
What is the GravityLux Mattress Made Of?
As I’ve mentioned, the firm model GravityLux feels a bit different than a traditional memory foam mattress. To help you understand why, I’m going to take you through each layer of this 11-inch thick bed.
Cover —The GravityLux has a cooling Tencel cover. Tencel is an eco-friendly cotton substitute made from eucalyptus. It feels soft and cool to the touch. The cover is also quilted with some gel-infused foam to provide some initial pressure relief.
Comfort Layer — Up next is a layer of the brand’s AirCell memory foam. This foam sleeps much cooler than traditional memory foam because its open-cell design prevents heat retention. This foam was built to offer less sinkage than traditional memory foam, so it gives the GravityLux a pressure-relieving but responsive feel.
Transition Layer — Next up is a layer of zoned Progression Foam, another foam unique to WinkBeds. This layer was designed to offer extra support around the lower back and extra softness around the shoulders. This type of zoned support is great for sleepers who struggle with back pain.
Support Layer — The construction wraps up with a layer of high-density Atlas Core foam. This foam offers the GravityLux a ton of durability. This is likely one of the more sag-proof memory foam mattresses on the market right now. This foam also gives the mattress a lot of its feel, because the GravityLux is dominated by this layer it feels firmer than a traditional memory foam bed.
The WinkBeds GravityLux is a memory foam mattress that has a firmer feel. It's going to be a great choice for sleepers who love the contouring feel of memory foam, but want a solidly firm bed. I'd recommend this bed mainly to back and stomach sleepers.

My Final Thoughts About the GravityLux Mattress
After going over its construction, sussing out its feel, and comparing it to a few other WinkBed mattresses, it’s time to decide: Is the GravityLux mattress right for you? I can’t say for sure, but I can leave you with a few final thoughts to help you get there on your own.
My Favorite Things About the GravityLux Mattress
My favorite thing about this mattress is its durability. This is a long-lasting mattress that won’t start to sag anytime soon. This is an especially nice feature for a foam mattress to have, since memory foam normally starts to break down earlier than other mattress materials. WinkBeds also offers a lifetime warranty with this mattress, which is a testament to their confidence in the longevity of this bed.
I also appreciate how cooling this mattress is. It sleeps much cooler than a traditional memory foam mattress. While especially hot sleepers might still prefer an innerspring or latex mattress, folks looking for a foam mattress that doesn’t overheat should like this bed.
My GravityLux Mattress Complaints
My biggest concern about this bed is that it does not feel like a traditional memory foam mattress. It’s much firmer and more fast-moving than a classic memory foam bed. If you’re a side sleeper looking for slow-moving sinkage you’ll definitely need to opt for the soft or medium model of the GravityLux. On the other hand, if you’re someone who likes some more responsiveness and less sinkage, this con could be a pro in your book!

Other Models From WinkBeds
At this point, we know the GravityLux inside and out, but how does it compare to the other beds WinkBeds sells? To find out, I’m going to compare it to two of its mattress siblings: the Original WinkBed and WinkBed EcoCloud.
GravityLux vs Original WinkBed
- The WinkBed is a hybrid mattress with a sturdy innerspring feel.
- It also comes in three different firmness options (as well as a plus version for heavier folks).
- The medium-firm WinkBed is a good choice for combination sleepers, as its high mobility makes it easy to change positions.
