Juno Mattress Video Review
Is Juno a Good Mattress for You?
Before we dig in too deep, here’s some quick hits on who I’d recommend the Juno for and who I think should look elsewhere.
Who I recommend Juno mattress for
- The Juno mattress is a great option for anyone shopping on a budget. It’s a super affordable mattress that would work well for a child’s bed, a guest room, a college apartment, or any other time you need an inexpensive but good quality mattress.
- Memory foam lovers will enjoy the Juno. It has the classic sinking-in feeling of memory foam.
- I’d also recommend the Juno for side sleepers. The soft, cushioning foam will provide nice pressure relief on key pressure points like the shoulders and hips.
Who I don’t recommend Juno mattress for
- I wouldn’t recommend this mattress for stomach sleepers. It’s not supportive enough to keep stomach sleepers’ hips elevated. I’d steer these sleepers to our best mattress for stomach sleepers roundup.
- I also wouldn’t recommend the Juno for heavy sleepers—that’s anyone who weighs 113 kilograms (250 pounds) or more. It’s not supportive enough to ensure heavy sleepers’ will have proper alignment. I typically tell these sleepers to check out our best mattress for heavy people page, which has tons of options designed to support higher body weights.
How Firm is the Juno Mattress?
Now that you know my quick recommendations, we can start to take a look at what it feels like to cozy up on this mattress. Let’s kick things off by taking a look at its firmness.
It’s important to note that firmness is somewhat subjective. Everybody has their own preferences that can vary when it comes to weight, size, shape, and so on. So keep this in mind when reading my assessment.
Speaking of which: I found this mattress to be around a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for medium firmness is 6.5, so I’d say this mattress is on the softer side of medium firm.
Because we know what’s inside the Juno, we can figure out why this mattress lands around a 6 out of 10. The memory foam comfort layer is on the softer side, while the poly foam support layer is firmer. These layers average each other out to create a “soft-ish” medium firm feel. Because the mattress is on the softer side of medium firm, it might appeal to side sleepers who don’t want to feel jammed up around the shoulders or hips.

Juno Mattress Performance
Firmness tells you a lot about a mattress, but it’s not the full picture. Before investing your hard-earned dough in the Juno (or any mattress), you’ll first want to get clear about some other important factors.
Testing the Juno Mattress in Different Sleeping Positions
There’s more to choosing a mattress than just personal preference. What position you primarily sleep in, plus your body type, can actually determine what type of mattress will be the best for you; you’ll want your bed to offer the right amount of pressure relief and support, and help you maintain a neutral spinal alignment. Here’s how I think different sleepers will experience the Juno mattress, based on my experience testing it.
Is the Juno a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 59 kilograms / 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – I’d say the Juno is a good option for light back sleepers. They should sink in just a bit, but still have their spinal alignment maintained. The Juno doesn’t offer a ton of support, but light back sleepers don’t need as much support as heavier sleepers.
- Light Side Sleepers – The Juno should work pretty well for light side sleepers. The cushy foam allows you to sink in for pressure relief, which helps prevent that “jammed up” feeling in the shoulders or hips.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – Part time light stomach sleepers might be okay on the Juno, as they won’t sink in as much due to their lighter weight, but overall I’d say the Juno isn’t a great mattress for stomach sleeping. It’s lacking in support to keep the hips elevated.
Is the Juno a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (59 – 113 kilograms / 130 – 250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Juno should work well for average weight back sleepers. When I’m lying on my back, I feel like my weight is evenly supported. I sink into the soft memory foam just a little bit, but I still feel like my spine is pretty well aligned.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – Average weight side sleepers should also be comfortable on the Juno mattress. They should be able to sink into the memory foam for nice pressure relief.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – I wouldn’t recommend the Juno for average weight stomach sleepers. I think it’s too soft and lacking in support to keep the hips elevated. If the hips sink down into the mattress, it can lead to back pain over time.
Is the Juno a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 113 kilograms / 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I would not recommend the Juno for heavy sleepers. It’s not supportive enough. I think that heavy sleepers will find themselves sinking through the top layer of memory foam and won’t get enough support from the polyfoam layer. I’d recommend looking at our best mattresses for heavy people before making a mattress purchase.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – See above.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – See above.
Juno Mattress Pain Relief Performance
You know how a shoulder rub can help relieve tension after a stressful day? Pressure relief is kind of like that. It assesses a bed’s ability to relieve physical tension at sensitive areas (e.g. the hips, lower back, and shoulders) and tells you whether you can enjoy pressure-free sleep. To test out the pressure relief on the Juno Mattress, I turned to my handy pressure map.
Here’s how it works: I roll the pressure map on top of the mattress and hop aboard. The map tracks my body’s force as I move around and try out different positions on the bed. Low-pressure areas are highlighted in blue, while the highest pressure areas show up in red.
Back Pain – While lying on my back, there’s very little pressure buildup. I felt very supported on the Juno, so I think it will be good for preventing back pain for light to average weight back sleepers. On my side, I was able to sink in, which helps to maintain spinal alignment, and thus prevent back pain. On my stomach, I felt my hips sinking in too much, which can lead to lower back pain.
Shoulder Pain – On my back, the pressure map here was all blue. I’d say the softness of this mattress is probably helpful in relieving shoulder pain in back sleepers. For side sleepers, there is a small buildup of pressure here on the shoulders, but for the average person I think this is an acceptable level. And my shoulders looked fine here on my stomach, but again I wouldn’t recommend the Juno for most stomach sleepers, due to its lack of firm support.
Hip Pain – There’s a little bit of green around my hips while lying on my back, but I think this is an acceptable level. Back sleepers who are light to average weight should be fine with hip pain here. The same is true for side sleepers—you can see a small pressure buildup on my hip, but this level is okay for most people. And on my stomach, there is no pressure on the hips but I certainly felt them sinking in too much for the Juno to be a good mattress for stomach sleepers.
Juno Mattress Performance for Couples
Shopping for a bed to share? Here’s a few things I think you should consider when choosing a bed for a couple.
Motion Transfer
It might not be the most titillating subject, but motion transfer is an important aspect to consider when evaluating a mattress for a couple. This term refers to the amount of movement that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. In plainer English? It lets you know whether you’ll feel your sleeping partner’s movements if they’re prone to shifting around during the night.
To mimic motion transfer, I dropped a 10-pound steel ball from three heights: 4 inches, 8 inches, and 12 inches. Each height represents different movements, from tossing and turning to getting out of bed or full-on jumping. I measured the disturbance caused by each of these drops: The bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
During these tests, the Juno performed about average. There are some high spikes right after the drops, but the memory foam does a nice job of tamping down that movement pretty quickly. This tells me the mattress could be a decent option for couples.
Sex
The best mattress for sex will be responsive and bouncy, making it easy to move around on. However, most memory foam mattresses tend not to be very bouncy and the Juno mattress definitely falls in that camp. I didn’t feel stuck in it when moving on the bed, but it definitely was not very responsive. I’d say the Juno mattress would be just okay for sex.
Cooling
Sharing a bed with a partner can sometimes lead to overheating—two bodies are going to generate a lot more heat than one. If you or your partner are hot sleepers, a cooling mattress can go a long way in ensuring better sleep for the both of you.
The Juno bed is a memory foam mattress, which are known for sleeping a little hotter than their innerspring or hybrid counterparts, since they aren’t as breathable. However, the Juno does include a layer of cooling gel foam, which does help prevent overheating. I’d say this mattress will be temperature neutral for most sleepers, but super hot sleepers might want to check out some of our best cooling mattress recommendations.
Edge Support
In this test, I look at how well the perimeter of a mattress bears weight. Why is this important for couples? Because if a mattress has a sturdy edge, you can sleep closer to the edge without feeling as though you’re going to slip off the bed. This allows couples to use the entire surface area of the mattress, making a full or queen size feel larger.
When I tested the Juno, I found the edge support to be decent. Without sturdy coils or any edge reinforcements in the construction, I wasn’t surprised to find myself sinking a little around the edge of the bed. The edge support isn’t the best I’ve seen, but if you have a larger bed or don’t like lying along the edge, you should be fine without the extra support.
What is the Juno Mattress Made Of?
The Juno is an all-foam mattress that layers soft, contouring memory foam over more supportive poly foam layers. Together, these layers are meant to create a bed that’s a touch softer than medium-firm. It’s not the most luxurious mattress around (I’d say it’s ideal for a college dorm or first apartment), but it offers a few perks without breaking the bank.
The Juno mattress is manufactured in Canada and the foams used in the Juno mattress are CertiPUR-US certified, which means they’re free from harmful chemicals and pollutants.
Let’s take a closer look at what’s inside the Juno.
Cover – First up is the cover, which is made from a polyester and viscose blend. It has a stretchy knit feel that lends a touch of coziness to the mattress.
Comfort Layer – Beneath the cover, you’ll find a comfort layer of gel memory foam. True to memory foam form, this layer has a slow response to pressure and lets you sink into the mattress a bit for some body-contouring and pressure relief. This could appeal to back and side sleepers. Side sleepers especially might appreciate the soft feeling around their shoulders and hips.
Support Layer – Everything below the memory foam is made of high-density poly foam. It’s firmer than the memory foam above it, so when you sink through the memory foam you’re met by the support of the poly foam. Again, the balance of comfort and support might work well for side sleepers, who need softness around their shoulders and hips but enough support to keep their spine aligned. It could also work for lighter-weight back sleepers (though heavier folks may find that they sink too far into the mattress).
Juno Mattress Unboxing and Off-Gassing
The Juno mattress is a bed-in-a-box, so it will arrive at your door compressed and rolled into a box approximately the size of a mini-fridge. To unbox the mattress, take the box to the room you want to set up the mattress in. Open the box and remove the rolled up mattress. Then, unroll the mattress and cut off the packaging. I’d recommend enlisting another person to help, since the box will be heavy.
Once the packaging is removed, the mattress should start to inflate. You might notice a slightly unpleasant smell as it is inflating. This is called off-gassing. The smell is coming from gasses that were trapped during the compression process being released all at once. It is not dangerous, but if the smell bothers you, I would recommend letting the mattress air out for 24 hours before sleeping on it.

My Final Thoughts about Juno Mattress
Alright, we’re nearly at the end of our Juno review. But there’s still one thing to address: Is the Juno mattress right for you? I can’t answer that, but I can help you out by summarizing my pros and cons of this mattress.
My favorite things about Juno mattress
This is a great value mattress. It has a no-frills design that offers an all-foam feel for a bargain price. If you like the feel of memory foam, the Juno might appeal to you. The comfort layer lets you sink into the mattress a bit to enjoy some body contouring.
As a general rule, I think side sleepers should appreciate this mattress. It performed well during the pressure map test when I was in this position, no doubt thanks to the memory foam. I felt pretty comfortable on my side and didn’t get that “jammed up” feeling at my shoulder.
My Juno mattress complaints
The mattress lacks support. It’s probably not a good fit for strict stomach sleepers, who need a firm feel to keep their hips and spine in alignment. It also might not suit heavier folks, who could drop through the memory foam layer and find that they don’t feel supported enough by the polyfoam. Heavier sleepers should view our best mattresses for heavy people page for more information.
If you like your mattress to have bounce, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere. While I didn’t feel stuck on the Juno, it’s definitely not a bouncy mattress.

Juno Mattress vs Polysleep Mattress
- The Polysleep mattress has a similar construction to the Juno. It has an aerated foam comfort layer—which is beneficial for hot sleepers, a transition layer of high-density polyfoam, and a base layer of firm high-density polyfoam. It also has a spill-resistant cover.
- The Polysleep mattress has a medium-soft feel, making it a good choice for side sleepers.
- It also provides good mobility, making it easy for most sleepers to switch positions at night.
- Read my full Polysleep mattress review to learn more.
We recommend this mattress for the following sleeper types: Financing options are available for this mattress. If you are looking for a mattress with a softer feel, then the Polysleep will most likely fill your needs. Strict side sleepers should enjoy the pressure relief in the shoulders and hips this mattress provides.

Other Models from GoodMorning.com
Now I’ll compare the Juno to two other mattresses from Goodmorning.com: the Douglas and the Novosbed.
Juno Mattress vs Douglas Mattress
- The Douglas mattress is also a foam bed. It is made with a thin breathable cover, gel memory foam, latex foam, and high-density polyfoam.
- The Douglas might be a better pick for hot sleepers than the Juno, as the latex foam and gel foam help to keep the mattress (and therefore you) much cooler.
- For couples, the Douglas also did very well on my motion isolation test. You shouldn’t feel much disturbance from a partner on this bed.
- Read my full Douglas mattress review to learn more.
The Douglas is a Canadian mattress, offering balanced support and pressure relief for a variety of sleepers. Plus, its Elastex and gel foams give it some good bounce and cooling.

Juno Mattress vs Novosbed Mattress
Note: Novosbed’s parent company Goodmorning.com is discontinuing the mattress and replacing it with the Octave. All links to the Novosbed will soon redirect to Octave’s flagship mattress, the Vista. Read our full Octave Vista mattress review, or check out our Best Canadian Mattress page for other options.
- The Novosbed is a memory foam mattress that is available in three different firmnesses: soft, medium, and firm.
- For a memory foam bed, the Novosbed is fairly good with temperature regulation. It uses Airflow foam with perforations and a breathable Tencel cover.
- The memory foam is great for pressure relief, so I’d say this is a good bed for back and side sleepers.
