If you’re on the hunt for an innerspring mattress, chances are you’ve come across the names Saatva and WinkBeds. They’re two of the most popular brands on the market and both have classic springy models to offer. Their flagships, the Saatva Classic and the WinkBed, share a lot of similarities, like having multiple firmness options you can choose from and great durability, but they also have some striking differences.
To help you decide which one is the best mattresses for you, I’m going to compare them side-by-side. We’ll explore each bed’s unique features and then see how they size up against one another. I’ll cover everything from their materials to their feel to their company policies. So, let’s jump in. If you’re in a hurry, you can skip to the summary.

WinkBed vs Saatva: Which is Better for You?
Depending on factors like your preferred sleeping position and body weight, one of these beds is likely to suit you better than the other. Below, I’ll give some quick recommendations on which sleepers I think should choose which bed, and I’ll dive into more details throughout the review.
Who Should Buy Saatva
- Anyone wanting the perk of free white glove delivery where they don’t have to do the heavy lifting will like the Saatva Classic mattress. Movers will set it up in your room of choice and take away your old bed for free if needed. It also arrives fully expanded and is never compressed in a box.
- Choosy shoppers might like the fact that Saatva offers a longer trial period than WinkBed (365 nights vs 120 nights).
- Sleepers who want to customize their bed’s height. Saatva offers this mattress in two different height options: 11.5-inch and 14.5-inch. The WinkBed only comes in one height option, which is 13.5 inches.
Who Should Buy WinkBed
- Hot sleepers should choose the WinkBed, as it’s built with more cooling technology than the Saatva.
- Those searching for a bit more plushness will like the WinkBed.
- Heavy sleepers will do better on the WinkBed, since one of their firmness options is designed for heavier folks (the WinkBed Plus). It’s a bit more supportive than the Saatva.

Saatva vs WinkBed: Similarities and Differences
Though these mattresses are very similar, they do have a few things that set them apart, which I’ll detail below. I’d also encourage you to check out our full Saatva Mattress Review and WinkBed Mattress Review for more information.
Main Similarities
- The Saatva and WinkBed both use a ton of coils, so they’re both incredibly bouncy. No matter the bed you end up choosing, you’ll likely enjoy a buoyant lift from their respective coil-on-coil designs.
- In addition to the tremendous bounce, these beds also offer strong support, which is a nice perk for heavier sleepers.
- Both the Saatva and the WinkBed are available in three different firmness levels, allowing sleepers to really hone in on the feel that’s going to be right for them. For the purpose of this comparison, I’ll be trying out each brand’s luxury firm model.
- These beds fall into a similar price range.
- If you’re a heavier sleeper (over 250 pounds) both of these beds should offer you appropriate support. You can also check out the Saatva HD mattress or WinkBed Plus, which were both designed specifically for heavier folks.
Main Differences
- The WinkBed is a bed-in-a-box mattress that ships compressed to your door. On the other hand, the Saatva is uncompressed and arrives through complimentary white glove delivery.
- The WinkBed sleeps a little cooler than the Saatva thanks to gel-infused foams.
- Along with the three different firmness options, the WinkBed also has a fourth option designed for heavier sleepers, while the Saatva Classic has two different height options you can choose between.
- The WinkBed is made with pocketed coils and edge support coils, while the Saatva is made with two different types of pocketed coils.
Saatva and WinkBed Mattress Feel Comparison
Now that you know the basics, let’s really dive into how each of these mattresses feels. Remember, feel is subjective and will vary depending on your body type, sleeping position preference, and weight.
Saatva
The Saatva is a true medium-firm mattress. I gave it a 6.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale, which is the industry standard for medium firm.
While you’ll likely get a little bit of give from the Saatva’s plush quilted cover, most of the bed is made up of the coil system, which results in an overall bouncy and taut vibe. Though combo sleepers will love all this fantastic mobility, couples may find it makes it easy to feel disturbed by a restless partner.
Also keep in mind, we’re only talking about the Luxury Firm Saatva here. The brand offers a few different firmness options. This model is not good for strict side sleepers, but Saatva’s Plush Soft model could offer them the pressure relief they need.
I think this firm mattress is a great fit for back and combination sleepers. Folks who suffer from back pain like me might also really appreciate this Saatva as my back pain immediately disappeared on this mattress. This bed even made our list for the best mattresses for back pain.
It includes a zoned memory foam layer to offer some additional pressure relief at the lower back.
WinkBed
The WinkBed is just a little firmer than medium-firm, falling at a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. That means it will feel similar to the Saatva, however the Saatva Classic is just a tad softer. Though we do think its pillow top feels a little plusher than the Saatva’s.
While the WinkBed’s Tencel cover and Euro-pillow top foam do lend the bed some initial sinkage and softness, the bounce from its steel coils will likely make it feel as though you’re sleeping more “on” the mattress than “in” it. This is a great perk for combination sleepers who need a responsive bed.
Like the Saatva, the WinkBed is a little too firm for side sleepers in the Luxury Firm model. They might prefer the Softer firmness option or a memory foam mattress in order to get more cushioning around their pressure points. Back sleepers especially might like the balance of pressure relief and firm support the WinkBed offers. Like the Saatva, it offers zoned support that those who suffer from back pain could appreciate.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Saatva and the WinkBed
Depending on your body weight and preferred sleeping position, one of these mattresses may suit you better than the other. Below, I’ll share how this mattress feels in different positions and for sleepers of different sizes.
Saatva
Back — Back sleepers should really like the Saatva, particularly the Luxury Firm version. They’ll get the firm support they need to maintain a neutral spinal alignment, and the zoned support coils will offer some nice pressure relief at the shoulders.
Side — I think the Luxury Firm model will be a little too firm for strict side sleepers, but I think the Plush Soft version of the Saatva could be a good option for them. It’ll provide some nice sinkage while still offering back support.
Stomach — Stomach sleepers should do well on the Luxury Firm or Firm version of the Saatva. They’ll find that their hips are nice and supported, which helps prevent back pain for this position.
Body Weight — Lighter sleepers, weighing under 130 pounds, are going to feel the Saatva to be firmer than advertised and heavy sleepers, weighing more than 250 pounds, will feel this bed to be softer than advertised. I think heavier sleepers will still be comfortable and supported on this mattress. Saatva also offers the Saatva HD, which was specifically designed for heavy people.
WinkBed
Back — We’re a big fan of the WinkBed for back sleepers. This bed is designed with zoned support coils, which are firmer at the lower back and softer at the shoulders, which helps promote a neutral spinal alignment. This makes the WinkBed an especially good pick for back sleepers with back pain.
Side — Side sleepers should be happy on the Softer version of the WinkBed. In general, I think these sleepers are going to want a softer bed with more cushioning and contouring, like one of our best mattresses for side sleepers.
Stomach — Stomach sleepers should really like the firm support the WinkBed offers in the Luxury Firm and Firmer models. They’ll get the support they need to keep their spine nice and straight.
Body Weight — Lighter weight sleepers should feel this bed to be a bit firmer than average weight sleepers, while heavy sleepers might feel it as softer. Heavier sleepers should take a look at WinkBeds’ mattress option for heavy people, the WinkBed Plus.

Comparing Saatva and WinkBed Mattress Materials
Let’s dig deeper into what sets these beds apart from one another by taking a look at their unique constructions.
Saatva
Cover — The Saatva’s organic cotton cover is breathable and antimicrobial. Both great perks for many sleepers.
Comfort Layer — This top layer is a Euro pillow top. It offers a bit of cushioning and pressure relief.
Support Layer — Individually wrapped pocketed coils offer some nice bounce, airflow, and support.
Zoned Support Layer — A layer of memory foam in the center of the Saatva offers some pressure relief and works with the above support layer to provide additional relief and support at the lower back. This zoned support system is a nice feature for anyone suffering from lower back pain.
Foundation Layer – The Saatva’s base layer is made from steel coils and edge support foam. The second coil layer provides even more powerful lift, while the high-density foam surrounding the mattress makes the Saatva feel a bit bigger.
WinkBed
Cover — This hybrid mattress’s cover is made of Tencel, an eco-friendly material that’s light and breathable. Quilted detailing also provides pressure relief and a bit of soft sinkage right off the bat.
Pillow Top — Made of gel-infused foam, this Euro pillow top comfort layer is smooth and luxurious to the touch, but retains a fair amount of firmness and support. While regular memory foam has a tendency to overheat, the gel foam in this layer keeps things cool.
Support Layer — This pocketed coil layer is zoned into seven sections that provide different firmness and pressure relief at different contact points along the body as you sleep. Essentially, you’re getting more sinkage at the shoulders and hips, but more support and firmness to cradle your spine and lower body.
Saatva vs. WinkBed: Best Qualities
Alright, now that we’ve fully assessed every last inch of these beds, let’s recap some of the things we found. First and foremost, I think it’s important to note that these beds are in fact quite similar. They’re bouncy, firm, supportive, and designed to keep the sleeper positioned on top of the bed.
Saatva Best Features
- Between the two beds, I’d say the Saatva has more of an old-school innerspring feel, so it could be great for those after a traditional feel.
- The Saatva’s bouncy feel makes it a great option for combination sleepers.
- The firm support this bed offers makes it an excellent choice for stomach sleepers.
- When it comes to edge support, there is no beating the Saatva Classic. The Saatva Classic offers excellent edge support and should be the gold standard for similar beds. As you can see, the bed barely sank at any point during this test. This is perfect for those with mobility issues as well as couples who want to maximize the surface area of their mattress.
The Saatva’s coil-on-coil construction provides a classic innerspring feel. It's a good option for combo sleepers, who will want to feel free to switch positions and avoid feeling “stuck” in the mattress. It comes in three firmness levels, so you should be able to find one that suits your needs.
We recommend this mattress for the following sleeper types: Financing options are available for this mattress. We were skeptical of buying a mattress on line but it could not have gone any smoother. Anthony answered all of our questions during our many phone conversations. Delivery was prompt and went without a hitch. Best of all the mattress is so comfortable! I haven't had such a good night sleep in years. Highly recommend this.

FAQs
Are smart beds expensive?
Yes, smart beds are expensive. However, luxury mattresses that are not “smart” can also be very expensive, so you will need to consider what you really want out of your bed and your budget to decide if a smart bed is worth the price.
Are smart beds better than other beds?
Not necessarily. Smart beds are a great option for couples, people with pain, or people with specific needs, but they are not ideal for everyone. Some people may still really enjoy a traditional mattress, or even prefer it. Consider the things I have mentioned in this review to decide if a smart bed is ready for you.
Do smart beds help you sleep better?
They certainly can! Smart beds can stay cooler than other beds, adjust to your needs, and help you find a position that is just right. In this way, smart beds can help you get really good sleep. However, so can traditional mattresses, so you will just need to think about what you need most out of your mattress.
What are the cons of smart beds?
Smart beds can be really expensive and sometimes they require unique bases, bed frames, and other technology to make them work properly, so they may not be a good option for people shopping on a budget or not looking for tech savvy bed.
