If you weigh over 250 pounds, online mattress shopping presents come challenges. Since most online brands design beds for sleepers in the 130–250-pound range, it can be hard for heavier sleepers to find a mattress that’s suited to their needs.
That’s where the Titan Plus Luxe mattress comes in. Like the original Titan Plus mattress from Brooklyn Bedding, the Titan Plus Luxe was designed specifically for plus-sized sleepers. But is the mattress actually comfortable? To find out, I ran it through thorough tests, assessing its construction and feel to see if it might just be the ideal mattress for heavier sleepers.
I also did something a little different with this review. Because the Titan Plus Luxe was built for heavy people (a weight category I don’t fall into), I thought it was important to get the perspective of someone in the bed’s target audience. So I brought in a power lifter named Paulie Steinman to try out the bed and help me come up with an accurate Titan Plus Luxe mattress review. You can click the video below to see him testing out the bed.
In a hurry? you can also skip down to my handy review summary.
The Titan Luxe mattress is a hybrid mattress designed for heavy sleepers, like the firmer Titan mattress, but it is considerably softer.

Where the Titan Plus Luxe Is Featured
Here at Sleepopolis, we use a series of hands-on tests to determine which mattress roundups a bed belongs on and who it might be good for. Here are some of our 2024 mattress roundups that include the Titan Plus Luxe:
- Best Mattress for Shoulder Pain
- Best Mattress for Neck Pain
- Best Mattress for Arthritis
- Best Mattress for Combination Sleepers
Titan Plus Luxe Mattress Overview
In a nutshell, the Titan Plus Luxe is the luxury upgrade of the standard Titan Plus, and is also a Brooklyn Bedding mattress. It has a similar construction, but with more foam layers to give you some extra cushioning. In terms of feel, this hybrid mattress was designed to feel medium firm to people in the 250-pound-and-above range. You should keep that in mind given your own body weight and type, as sleepers with smaller body types tend to experience mattresses as being firmer than heavier sleepers do.
Finally, because the Titan Plus is a bed-in-a-box mattress, it may emit a faint chemical odor when you unbox it and unroll it. This is known as off-gassing and is nothing to worry about. The smell disappears on its own within one to two days, especially if placed in a well-ventilated room.
Titan Plus Luxe Mattress Video Review
I put all of our mattresses through a series of tests and sleeping positions so I can make informed recommendations about who the bed might be good for. Watch the below video to see Paulie and I put the Titan Plus Luxe through our rigorous testing process. When all was said and done, I gave this bed an overall score of 4.6 out of 5 stars.
What Is the Titan Plus Luxe Mattress Made Of?
Let’s take a deeper dive into the construction of the Titan Plus. This 13-inch hybrid mattress is made with a combination of foam layers and innerspring support. Keep reading below to see a layer-by-layer breakdown.
Cover – The Titan’s cozy mattress cover is quilted with gel memory foam to provide some immediate support and pressure relief. This high-quality foam was also designed to resist body impressions, which is a nice perk for heavier sleepers. You can also purchase an optional cooling top panel to add to your mattress. This panel is made of phase change material that’s cool to the touch and designed to avoid trapping body heat.
Comfort Layer – Next up is the top layer of TitanFlex foam. This foam was designed with pressure point relief in mind and should offer plenty of cushion.
Transition Layer – Below that is a layer of Energex foam. This foam offers deeper compression support to heavier bodies, and lowers sleepers gently down onto the support layer below.
Support Layer – This hybrid bed’s support layer is made of TitanCaliber coils. These pocketed coils provide support and bounce. They’re also individually wrapped, which promotes airflow throughout the bed.
Base Layer – Rounding things out is a base layer made of high-density foam. This layer offers the coil layer above it something to bounce off of.
Titan Plus Luxe Mattress Firmness
Now that you have a general idea of what the mattress is made of, let’s talk about how it actually feels. Keep in mind that feel is subjective, and a mattress will feel different to you depending on your body weight and preferred sleeping position.
To me, a side sleeper who weighs around 125 pounds, the Titan Plus Luxe felt like a firm mattress. I’d give it about a 7 or 7.5 out of 10 on the mattress firmness scale. For reference, the industry standard is 6.5 out of 10. To Paulie, a combination sleeper who weighs around 275 pounds, this mattress felt medium firm. He gave it a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
The Titan Luxe mattress is a hybrid mattress designed for heavy sleepers, like the firmer Titan mattress, but it is considerably softer.

Sleeping Position and Body Weight
Is the Titan Plus Luxe a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – This mattress will feel very firm to light back sleepers, as it was made with heavy sleepers in mind — but some may actually prefer this supportive and sturdy feel. These sleepers could rest assured they will wake up with a neutral spine alignment.
- Light Side Sleepers – I think that light side sleepers would benefit more from a softer mattress that offers more sinkage and cradling — check out one of our best memory foam mattresses. The Titan Plus Luxe may make these sleepers experience pressure at common pain areas rather than relief.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – The firm build of this mattress may be too much for light stomach sleepers. While stomach sleepers do need support, they also still want comfort. The Titan Plus Luxe may be just too firm to provide the comfort level these sleepers need, but offers more than enough support.
Is the Titan Plus Luxe a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – If you’re a back sleeper who prefers a firmer mattress that keeps you on top of the bed rather than sinking into it, you’ve come to the right spot, because that’s exactly what the Titan Plus Luxe is designed to do. I think average weight back sleepers will really enjoy the support of this mattress.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – I think this mattress is a little too firm for average weight side sleepers. While the mattress does make an effort to contour the shoulders and hips, it is just not enough for sleepers under 250 pounds.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – Average weight stomach sleepers looking for a firm, supportive mattress that will promote healthy spine alignment can stop the search for their new mattress here. The Titan Plus Luxe is a great option for these folks and will provide a blend of support and comfort to match these sleeper’s needs.
Is the Titan Plus Luxe a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – The Titan Plus Luxe is specifically designed for heavy sleepers, making it an excellent choice for these back sleepers. On a lot of mattresses, heavier people may feel that they might sink too far through the comfort layers, however the Titan Plus Luxe will do just the opposite and reinforce their body to keep them lifted. Paulie felt comfortable in this position.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – This mattress is quite firm, which will allow heavy side sleepers to feel a bit of sinkage without feeling enveloped like they might on an ordinary mattress. I think this is an excellent choice for these sleepers, and so does Paulie.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – Heavy stomach sleepers might want to consider the original, Titan Plus mattress. For instance, Paulie experienced unwanted sinkage that formed a U shape in his back, leading to aches and pains down the line.
Titan Plus Luxe Performance
To give you an in-depth idea of mattress performance, I run some specialized tests on every bed I review. For the Titan Plus Luxe, I measured how it performed in different sleeping positions, how it relieved pain and pressure, and how it might feel for couples sharing a bed.
Titan Plus Luxe Pain Relief Performance
Pain relief is a measure of how evenly distributed your weight is on a mattress. A mattress that offers good pain/pressure point relief will spread your weight evenly across its surface. A mattress without high-quality pressure relief will concentrate your weight in sensitive areas like the hips, shoulders, and lower back.
To test the Titan Plus Luxe’s pressure relief, I had Paulie lay on a specialized mat that we put down on the mattress. The mat measured the force the mattress exerted on Paulie’s body and created the pressure map of his body that you see below. The map ranges from blue to green in low pressure areas and yellow to read in high pressure areas.
Back Pain – As you can see, the map is mostly blue when Paulie is on his back. Paulie said the mattress felt comfortable and supportive in this position, alleviating any pressure at his lumbar region. On the other hand, back pain that heavy stomach sleepers experience will not be relieved here. When lying on his stomach, we noticed that Paulie’s hips sank in a bit, which is just going to put pressure on the back.
Shoulder Pain – You’ll see a little light green when Paulie is on his side, but not too much. Paulie said the mattress felt comfortable and he didn’t feel stiff or sore around his shoulders. This is a great sign for heavy side sleepers with shoulder pain in search of a new mattress. Shoulder pain is also relieved for back sleepers as this mattress evenly distributes their weight.
Hip Pain – Paulie’s hips sank too far into the mattress, creating a bend in his back that might lead to pain over time. Paulie said the Titan Plus Luxe felt more comfortable than some other mattresses he’s tried on his stomach, but wasn’t quite as supportive as a strict stomach sleeper might like. I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to any heavy stomach sleepers, especially those with pre-existing hip pain. The opposite is to be said for heavy back sleepers with hip pain. The Titan Plus Luxe may work like magic to take away these sleepers hip pain.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is a measure of how much motion travels from one side of the mattress to the other. A mattress with low motion transfer is great for anyone who sleeps with a partner or pet, because it will prevent too much movement from traveling across the mattress. This means you won’t feel overly disturbed by tossing and turning on the other side of your bed.
To test out the motion transfer on the Titan Plus Luxe, I dropped a 10-pound steel ball from varying heights (four inches, eight inches, and 12 inches) and measured the disturbance it caused with a seismometer. Take a look at the chart below to see the results: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
I was incredibly impressed with the Titan Plus Luxe’s motion transfer results. This is some of the lowest motion transfer I’ve ever seen when testing a bed. I don’t think you’ll be disturbed by a partner’s tossing and turning on this mattress. These test results, paired with the Titan Plus Luxe’s medium-firm feel and great edge support (which I’ll talk about more below), makes me think this could be one of the best mattresses for couples available on the bed-in-a-box market. Especially if you’re a heavier couple or there’s a big weight difference between you and your partner.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness refers to how fast a mattress responds back to its original shape after being pressed. If the material bounces back quickly, the mattress has high responsiveness and should be easy to move around on. This is important for combination sleepers who switch sleeping positions at night.
I felt quite mobile on the Titan Plus Luxe. The springs in the construction gave it a lot of bounce, making it easy to move around, change positions, and get in and out of bed.
Cooling
Temperature control is something couples — and heavier folks — are going to definitely want to make note of when searching for their new mattress. The Titan Plus Luxe Hybrid passes my personal cooling test with flying colors. Thanks to the bed’s individual wrapped coil system, this mattress stays cool from the inside out. And for extra-hot sleepers, Brooklyn Bedding offers an additional cooling top panel. However, it is going to raise the price tag a bit.
Here at Sleepopolis, we recently started using a thermal gun to test a mattress’s temperature after five minutes of someone lying on it. Although we haven’t conducted this test on the Titan Plus Luxe just yet, we’ll be doing so soon.
Edge Support
Edge support is a measure of whether or not you’ll be able to sleep all the way on the edge of the bed and still feel supported. A mattress with strong edge support feels a little bigger because you have more surface area to sleep on.
Paulie said he felt as supported as possible when sitting on the edge of the bed. The Titan Plus Luxe’s sturdy edge support is a bonus for heavier people because it will increase this bed’s durability. Its heavy-duty edge should allow you to spread out over the entire mattress, which will prevent the middle of this bed from sagging prematurely.
Titan Plus Luxe Performance for Couples
When sharing the bed with a partner, you’ll want to keep a few more things in mind while shopping for a new mattress. Features you’ll want to consider include motion transfer, performance during sex, cooling, and edge support.
In order for a mattress to be considered good for sex, it needs to have a combination of responsiveness and bounce, which are two things the Titan Plus Luxe has. The mattress is easy to move around on and change positions, making it a great mattress for sex. It also keeps a low temperature because of the coils, so it should be able to cool down two bodies instead of just one. Additionally, the Titan Plus Luxe has impressive motion isolation, so you and your partner shouldn’t feel each other moving around at night.
Finally, the strong edge support should allow you and your partner to spread out on the mattress. You should both feel supported without feeling like you’re going to fall off of the bed.
The Titan Luxe mattress is a hybrid mattress designed for heavy sleepers, like the firmer Titan mattress, but it is considerably softer.

My Final Thoughts About the Titan Plus Luxe Mattress
And that’s it for my Titan Plus Luxe mattress review! Stick around until the end to see me compare this mattress to other Brooklyn Bedding mattresses, as well as a few other beds designed specifically for plus-size sleepers. And read on below for a few final thoughts on the pros and cons of this bed.
Who I Recommend the Titan Plus Luxe For
- Heavy combination sleepers should enjoy the “on top of the bed” feel this mattress provides. It should be easy for them to move around and change positions on this mattress.
- Heavy back and side sleepers should like the Titan Plus Luxe. It offers a combination of support and pressure relief that should work in both sleeping positions.
- Couples with different weights should really like the Titan Plus Luxe. It will likely feel medium firm to the heavier partner, and firm to the lighter partner — but not so firm that the lighter partner isn’t getting any pressure relief. The Titan Plus Luxe also features great motion isolation, which means you won’t be disturbed by a restless bedmate on this mattress.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Titan Plus Luxe For
- Heavy stomach sleepers might find this mattress a little too soft for their needs. I’d recommend they choose the standard Titan Plus instead. It should do a better job of keeping their hips lifted and aligned with their shoulders.
- If you’re looking for deep sinkage and body contouring you won’t get what you need on the Titan Plus Luxe. Our best mattress for heavy people roundup reviews a few memory foam models that you might prefer.

Titan Plus Luxe Mattress Vs
Still not sure if the Titan Plus Luxe is the right choice for you? Take a look below to see how it stacks up against some of its biggest competitors in the plus-size mattress market.
Titan Plus Luxe Mattress vs Big Fig Mattress
Like the Titan Plus Luxe, the Big Fig is a hybrid mattress designed specifically for heavier people. That said, it’s a bit firmer, coming in at an 8 out of 10 on our mattress firmness scale. That makes it one of the firmest mattresses we’ve tested.
- Price: The Big Fig is usually a few hundred dollars more than the Titan Plus Luxe.
- Sleeping Position: Both options are a good choice for heavy back sleepers, but the Titan Plus Luxe is going to be more comfortable for heavy side sleepers while the Big Fig should be the better fit for heavy stomach sleepers.
- Cooling: Both mattresses sleep cool, but we found that the Big Fig slept just a little cooler due to multiple added cooling features, including gel infusions and perforated foam.
- Body Weight: The Big Fig is designed to support more weight than the Titan Plus Luxe. It was made specifically for people in the 300–500-pound range and couples in the 1,000-pound range.

Titan Plus Luxe Mattress vs Saatva HD Mattress
The HD is to Saatva what the Titan Plus Luxe is to Brooklyn Bedding — the brand’s version of a mattress for heavy people. The Saatva HD comes in a bit firmer on our mattress firmer scale and is not a bed-in-a-box mattress. Instead, it arrives already unrolled with free white glove delivery. That means the movers will set it up for you free of charge.
- Price: The Saatva HD is a lot more expensive than the Titan Plus Luxe, coming in at over $3,000 for a queen size before discounts.
- Sleeping Position: Both options should suit heavy back sleepers, but heavy side sleepers should opt for the Titan Plus Luxe and heavy stomach sleepers should opt for the Saatva HD.
- Cooling: We gave the Saatva HD a slightly higher score on cooling because it’s made with Talalay latex foam — a naturally cooling material. That said, the Titan Plus Luxe should still keep cool.
- Body Weight: Both of these mattresses are an excellent fit for heavy sleepers and some average weight sleepers.

Other Models from Brooklyn Bedding
Before we wrap up, I’ll also compare the Titan Plus Luxe mattress to some other Brooklyn Bedding mattresses.
Titan Plus Luxe Mattress vs Titan Plus Mattress
These are the two most similar beds on this list, as the Titan Plus Luxe is essentially the luxury upgrade of the standard Titan Plus, with some additional layers.
- Price: As the luxury option, the Titan Plus Luxe runs more expensive than the regular Titan Plus.
- Sleeping Position: Heavy back sleepers and side sleepers should be comfortable on both beds, but heavy stomach sleepers will likely prefer the standard Titan Plus.
- Cooling: We gave both of these mattresses high marks on cooling. And just like the Titan Plus Luxe, the Titan Plus has an optional cooling panel available for an extra cost.
- Body Weight: Both options are an excellent choice for heavy sleepers over 250 pounds. After all, it was made for them.

Titan Plus Luxe Mattress vs Brooklyn Signature Hybrid Mattress
Unlike the Titan Plus, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid wasn’t designed for heavy people. But it is the brand’s most popular mattress, with a comfortable no-frills design that should suit a variety of sleepers.
- Price: As the brand’s budget option, the Signature Hybrid is a lot more affordable than the Titan Plus Luxe and often makes our list of the best cheap mattresses.
- Sleeping Position: The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is available in three different firmness levels, so there’s something for every sleeping position. However, most heavy sleepers should go for the Titan Plus Luxe. Neither option is a good fit for heavy stomach sleepers.
- Cooling: Both of these mattresses should sleep cool due to the airflow-promoting coils.
- Body Weight: The Titan Plus Luxe is going to be the obvious better option for heavy sleepers over 250 pounds.

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature is a hybrid mattress made out of a combination of memory foam and latex foam. The Signature offers a good amount of bounce that combination sleepers who move around in the middle of the night can enjoy.

I bought this for my 92 year old father in law, after he tried mine that I purchased 7 years ago. He raves about it every day, he says he falls asleep faster, sleeps longer without waking up. He says it's so comfortable. He called me yesterday saying he can't thank me enough for setting him up with the mattress. He's really happy with it . Thank you!!
