At first glance, I associated this bed with having a nice luxurious look.
But does it also come with a luxurious feel? And does it deliver on the promise of pressure relief for all sleepers? That’s what I want to find out. Is the Lytton Signature a Good Mattress for You?
To start off, we put each of our mattresses through something called a “Rest Test,” where we lie down on the bed for an uninterrupted 15-minute power nap. This gives us a big-picture assessment of how it performs before we get into some of our more specific tests. Here’s how my colleague Amelia felt napping on the Lytton Signature Comfort Plush mattress:
“The Lytton mattress had a really unique feel. When I was lying on it, it felt plush and soft, yet also it had a firm and elevating feel. I actually felt comfortable in basically every sleeping position, with just a little discomfort around the shoulder when on my side. Given how bouncy this bed is, I think it’s a great option for combo sleepers.”

Who I don’t recommend the Lytton Signature mattress for

I ultimately decided to rate the Lytton Signature Comfort Plush mattress as a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. We rate 6.5 as the standard for medium-firm, so this means the Lytton Signature Comfort Plush is a true medium-firm bed.
I found the Lytton Signature Comfort Plush to have a very plush and cushiony feel, yet it keeps you propped up on top of the bed. This rare combination of fluffy support makes it a good candidate for a lot of different sleepers.

Is the Lytton Signature a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – I think these sleepers should find a lot of comfort in this bed. The pillow top on the bed should offer them the pressure relief they need.
- Light Side Sleepers – These sleepers could feel comfortable on this bed since they won’t sink too far into the top Euro pillow top layer, but I’d recommend most strict side sleepers in this weight category opt for a softer mattress.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – The Lytton Signature Comfort Plush will feel like a true firm mattress to these sleepers, so it should be a great fit.
Is the Lytton Signature a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – These sleepers should feel great on this mattress. Its zoned support should keep their spine aligned and their joints cushioned.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – I think the Lytton Signature Comfort Plush works great for these sleepers. The combination of the Euro pillow top and gel-infused foams cradles the hip and shoulder nicely.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – Although I think this mattress would work for a lot of these sleepers since it does a good job of keeping your body elevated, I would recommend most strict stomach sleepers (especially those over 200 pounds) check out the Comfort Firm model or our roundup of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers if they’re after beds with even more firm support.
Is the Lytton Signature a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I think those under 300 pounds could be comfortable on this mattress, as long as they prefer a softer feel. For more support, check out our picks for the best mattresses for heavy people.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – This bed should feel nice and soft to these sleepers. I think it could be a great option for them.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I don’t think the Lytton Signature Comfort Plush is going to be the best match for these sleepers since their hips may sink too far into the bed. Check out our roundup of the best mattresses for heavy people to see options specifically designed for heavier body weights.
Lytton Signature Pain Relief Performance
Pressure relief is really important for anyone who suffers from aches or pain. A bed with strong pressure-relieving abilities can reduce tension at pressure points found at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. Depending on your preferred sleeping position, you’ll want pressure relief for different parts of your body in order to prevent and alleviate pain.
I tested the Lytton Signature Comfort Plush’s pressure relief by using a pressure map. This device tracks the force I’m exerting on the bed as I move around and uses heat mapping technology to show where pressure’s building across the body while doing so. It ultimately produces a colored “map” of results. Blue and green indicate areas of low pressure, while orange and red indicate areas of high pressure.
Back Pain – These are terrific results for both back and side sleepers with back pain. You can see basically no pressure forming while back sleeping and very little hints of pressure while side sleeping. I’d suggest stomach sleepers weighing more than 150 pounds with back pain check out the Comfort Firm model.
Shoulder Pain – Results are also great for back and side sleepers with shoulder pain. While I do find this bed to have nice pressure relieving abilities, I think side sleepers with sensitive shoulders may want to check out a softer bed to get deeper sinkage.
Hip Pain – Again, these are terrific results for back and side sleepers with hip pain. The Euro pillow top and upper foam layers are doing their job in terms of cushioning the joints and providing relief. I would suggest most strict stomach sleepers with hip pain go for the Comfort Firm model.
Lytton Signature Mattress Performance for Couples
If you share the bed with a partner, you’ll want to consider a few extra components than those who sleep solo, including motion transfer, sex, edge, support, and cooling.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is how movements carry across the mattress. A bed with good motion isolation can absorb movements quickly and stop them in their tracks. Couples typically want a mattress with low motion transfer so they’re not disturbed if one of them’s tossing and turning throughout the night.
To illustrate motion transfer, I dropped a 10-pound steel ball on the Lytton Signature from heights of four inches, eight inches, and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
These are great motion transfer results. I’m a little surprised this bed performed so well since it has coils inside and offers some good bounce, but Lytton Sleep built it with a quantum coil system to minimize motion transfer. Looks like it’s working!
Sex
The best mattress for sex will be responsive and easy to move around on. I found the Lytton Signature to be very easy to move around on and quite bouncy. I’d say it’s a good mattress for sex.
Cooling
Couples tend to overheat faster than solo sleepers, so it’s a good idea to keep cooling in mind when shopping for two. The Lytton Signature is built with both breathable and cooling materials, so it shouldn’t trap body heat and will do a good job sleeping cool.
Edge Support
Edge support is a measure of how well the perimeter, or edges, of a mattress supports weight. This is good for people who like to sit or sleep near the edge of the bed. It can also make a bed feel larger since you can sprawl out and use its full surface.
I tested the Lytton Signature’s edge support by sitting, lying, and moving around on the side of the bed. While sitting on the edge, it sank down a little bit — but a very small amount. I didn’t feel like I was going to fall off. While lying on the side of the bed, it didn’t really sink at all and kept me very supported. I’d rate it as having great edge support.
What is the Lytton Signature Mattress Made Of?
As I mentioned earlier, the Lytton Signature is a hybrid mattress with coils, organic materials, and cooling components. All the foams in the mattress are CertiPur-US certified. Let’s go over all the layers in more detail below.
Cover – The first layer packs a comfort punch. It’s an organic cotton cover on a tufted Euro pillow top that has two layers of premium CertiPUR foam inside. The top layer is gel-infused, open-cell foam to help keep sleepers cool.
Comfort Layer – The comfort layer is what Lytton Sleep calls Serene Foam. It has microscopic air capsules to enhance support and offer pressure relief. Unlike classic memory foam, it works to maintain temperature regulation and doesn’t change or soften with your body temperature.
Support Layer – Next up is the Leggett and Platt Quantum Edge Coil Unit. This is an edge-to-edge coil layer that’s built to reduce motion transfer. There are extra coils placed in areas that need more support, like the hips and shoulders, to help maintain spinal alignment. It also helps promote airflow through the mattress.
Final Layer – The final layer is high-density base foam to keep everything in place and stable.

Lytton Signature Mattress Unboxing and Off-Gassing
The Lytton Signature is a bed-in-a-box mattress, which means it will arrive at your door compressed in a box. You’ll need to unbox it at home, and we recommend having another person help you.
Like most bed-in-a-box mattresses, you’ll need to wait at least 24 hours for this bed to fully decompress. It will need to off-gas for a few hours to release any packing smells, but after that, any smell should go away.

My favorite things about the Lytton Signature mattress
I am super impressed with the Lytton Signature Comfort Plush bed’s ability to work for most sleeping positions, along with hot sleepers and couples. It brings a unique combination of pressure relief, support, and lift to keep a lot of sleepers happy. I found it to be super supportive and isolate motion really well. I also appreciate how sleepers wanting a firmer mattress can choose the Comfort Firm model instead.
My complaints about the Lytton Signature mattress
I honestly don’t have many complaints about this mattress! I do think its price tag could be a turn off for budget shoppers, though. I’d recommend using our coupons and waiting for deals if looking for savings. I also think anyone after a classic memory foam feel (think quicksand slowly conforming around your joints) will want to look for a memory foam bed instead.
