What are the Birch Organic Cotton Sheets Made Of?
There are a wide variety of materials used to make sheets, from cotton sheets to bamboo sheets to linen sheets.
These Birch sheets are made from 100 percent organic cotton. The cotton is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Fair Trade certified — learn more about these certifications in our guide to mattress and bedding certifications.
These sheets have a sateen weave and a 320-thread count. Sateen is a style of weave that uses three over, one under weaving to create a thick, satiny, soft sheet with a lustrous sheen.
The Birch Organic Cotton sheets are available in six different sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. Each set comes with one fitted sheet and one flat sheet. The fitted sheets feature 15-inch pockets, which should be large enough to fit most mattresses. It also features tags to indicate the head and foot of the bed, simplifying the process of making your bed.
The twin and twin XL sets come with one standard pillowcase. The full and queen come with two standard pillowcases. And the king and California king come with two king size pillowcases.
What Do the Birch Organic Cotton Sheets Feel Like?
These sheets have a delightfully slick, satiny texture that feels ultra luxurious — a classic sateen. Rolling up in these sheets, they felt so soft and comfortable and not one bit scratchy or rough. If “organic” makes you think of something lumpy or coarse, think again, because these sheets feel absolutely amazing.
Are the Birch Organic Cotton Sheets Good for Hot Sleepers?
I thought the Birch Organic Cotton sheet set was decently breathable. The sateen weave does not allow for as much airflow as a percale cotton sheet might, as the weave is thicker and gives the sheet a higher thread count than most percale weave sheets. I wouldn’t recommend these if a cooling sheet is your highest priority, as they are not one of the most cooling options out there.
Still, cotton is an overall breathable fabric and I didn’t feel these sheets trapping excessive heat around me, so they could work well for colder months or sleepers who only run a little hot at night.

How Durable are Birch Organic Cotton Sheets?
Durability is an important consideration when shopping for anything new, particularly bedding. I thought the Birch Organic Cotton sheets felt like quality sheets. Reading through customer reviews on Birch’s website, customers seem to agree. I found very few reviewers who felt the sheets were of low quality.
Cotton is a good material for durability, but be sure to properly care for it. I’ll go over Birch’s recommended care instructions for these sheets in the FAQ section below.
Do the Birch Organic Cotton Sheets Stay on the Bed?
I did not have any problems with the Birch Organic Cotton sheets staying on the bed. The fitted sheet has fairly deep pockets, which are 15 inches. If your mattress is taller than 15 inches, I would recommend a different sheet set, but that is a fairly tall mattress. Most mattresses should easily fit.
Are Birch Organic Cotton Sheets Good for You?
With all that in mind, let’s go over some recommendations and complaints about these sheets. Then keep on reading for pricing, FAQs, and a sheet comparison.
Who should try Birch Organic Cotton sheets
- If you are looking for organic bedding, these sheets are a great option for you. They are made with entirely organic materials, certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard.
- If you like a satiny sheet, you should appreciate how soft and smooth these sheets feel.
- If making the bed is a chore for you, you will likely appreciate the inclusion of head and foot tags on the fitted sheet in this set, so you can easily get the sheet on the bed the right way the first time.
Birch Organic Cotton sheets complaints
- If you’re looking for an ultra-cooling sheet, these may not be the best option. While they are decently breathable, they aren’t spectacularly breezy or especially great with temperature regulation. See our best cooling sheets for better options.
- If you prefer a crisper feel, the silky-smooth feel of these sateen sheets might not appeal to you. I’d recommend a percale sheet set instead.
- If you want wrinkle-resistant sheets, you might be frustrated with these. I found they wrinkled quite easily and will likely require ironing to keep wrinkle-free.

Birch offers their organic cotton sheets in five different color options: white, natural, blue, sand, and beige. I tested a set in the white shade.

Birch Organic Cotton Sheets Vs
To help you make your final decision, let’s compare the Birch Organic Cotton sheets to some competitor bed sheets.
Birch Organic Cotton Sheets vs Saatva Organic Sateen Sheets
- The Saatva Organic Sateen sheets are made from 100 percent organic cotton in a sateen weave, like the Birch Organic Cotton sheets. What’s different is the Saatva ones utilize long-staple cotton to ensure a smooth, durable sheet. Neither sheet has an extremely high thread count — Saatva’s is 300, Birch’s is 320.
- The Saatva sheets have a slightly more airy and breathable feel than the Birch ones. But I’d say the Birch ones are a bit more silky.
- Both of these sheets use GOTS certified organic cotton and are Fair Trade certified.
