The Best Queen Bed Frames of 2025, According to Sleep Science Coaches

Sleepopolis may earn a commission on sales through our affiliate links in this article. This commission allows us to run our testing lab and continue to bring our readers the most comprehensive information on sleep and related products. See our disclosures.

While mattresses are our bread and butter here at Sleepopolis, we understand that a bed frame can make or break your sleep experience. If your bed frame lacks support or is unstable, it may be time for an upgrade. Since the queen size is the most popular size among consumers, it only felt right to round up our top picks for queen bed frames.

To determine which bed frames are the cream of the crop, our team of certified sleep science coaches came together in our Charlotte, N.C., testing studio to evaluate over a dozen of the most popular bed frames on the market. Not only did we assemble every bed frame ourselves, but we also dug into the nitty-gritty of the materials, support, and company policies.

As a certified sleep science coach, I collaborated with my fellow testers to evaluate several of these bases, gaining hands-on experience with various designs, constructions, and assembly processes. We also consulted with our Chief Medical Advisor, Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM, who offered insight into what folks need the most from their sleep setup.

Our Top Pick for Queen Bed Frames

I chose the DreamCloud Claremont bed frame as the best queen bed frame because it’s made with high-quality materials, offers reliable support, and comes in at a reasonable price point. Additionally, our testers found the assembly process easy and were impressed by the headboard and upholstery.

What I Looked for in the Best Queen Bed Frames

During testing, our team of experts evaluated each bed for eight different factors — price, materials, size, assembly and delivery, extra features, overall experience, customer service, and customer reviews —  using our review methodology. When selecting the best queen bed frames, I honed in on products that were easy to assemble, had durable, high-quality materials, and received the experience stamp of approval by our team of expert testers.

  • Assembly: Our testers built every single bed frame on this roundup from start to finish, timing how long it took, how easy they were to assemble, and how clear the instructions were. While some beds were slightly more complicated than others, each frame I’m recommending can be assembled by just one or two people.
  • Materials: The beds on this roundup are made from high-quality materials that are built to last and aren’t prone to wobbling or cracking under pressure. If the bed frame is on this list, our testers didn’t discover any manufacturing defects, nor did they notice any flimsiness or carelessness in the construction.
  • Experience: After the setup was complete, our testers evaluated the bed frame’s support when a mattress and two people were on it. In addition to sturdiness, they noted additional features, noise level, and overall comfort.

DreamCloud Claremont Bed Frame – Best Overall Queen Bed Frame

A cozy yet modern design anchored by a sturdy 40-inch padded headboard.

Check Price

I chose the DreamCloud Claremont Bed Frame as the best queen-size bed frame, not only because it’s stylish and easy to assemble, but also because it was a standout performer during testing, earning 4 stars or higher in every category we assessed. With an upholstered perimeter and padded headboard offered in two colors, the Claremont provides a comfortable, supportive foundation while remaining affordable.

DreamCloud is known for high-quality, yet affordable mattresses, and this great value extends to its line of bed frames. A queen-size Claremont bed frame costs $479, but has a total value of $928, according to DreamCloud. Although it’s not the cheapest bed frame on the market, it’s still one of the more affordable ones we’ve encountered, so we rated the price 4.5 stars.

Matt Schickling looks pretty satisfied with the DreamCloud Claremont he just assembled with Kate.
Tester Matt Schickling looks pretty satisfied with the DreamCloud Claremont he just assembled with his colleague Kate.

While other frames on this list may have more bells and whistles, the Claremont is still elevated beyond your basic bed frame in terms of materials and construction. When our tester Kate Meier evaluated this bed frame, she was impressed by the quality of the upholstery. She said, “It feels high-quality and looks fantastic. There are no snags or loose threads anywhere.” Every part of the frame seemed durable with no noticeable defects, so Kate rated it 4.5 stars for materials.

This aesthetically pleasing bed is also easier to assemble than it looks. Although there is an attached headboard, each piece of the frame is light and easy to move, and the instructions are clearly labeled. Additionally, DreamCloud provides you with all the tools you need, so you won’t need to break out your toolbox. From start to finish, the entire unboxing and assembly process took Kate less than 25 minutes to complete, so she rated the assembly 4.5 stars.

When Kate and another tester placed a mattress on the Claremont bed frame and lay down, they found it felt very sturdy, especially when it was placed on a rug or carpet. When the frame was directly on the hardwood floor, Kate noticed it sliding around as she moved. Overall, she rated the frame 4 stars for experience, as the bed performed well except when placed directly on a slippery floor.

The only real con to upholstered bed frames like this one is the tendency for the fabric to get snagged. If you have a pet prone to snagging furniture, you may want to reconsider getting the upholstered DreamCloud Claremont bed frame.

Nectar Premier Adjustable Bed Frame – Best Adjustable Queen Bed Frame

Nectar Premier Adjustable Base

Nectar Premier Adjustable Base

An upgrade of Nectar’s Comfort Classic Adjustable Base, the Premier features several luxury touches, including a massage feature, four USB ports, and five preset modes. And the split king size allows for two different angles at the same time.

Check Price

If you’re in the market for an adjustable base, I highly recommend the Nectar Premier adjustable bed frame. While adjustable bases are some of the more expensive options, they’re great choices for people who need head or leg elevation due to snoring, back pain, or overall comfort.

I chose the Nectar Premier as the best adjustable bed frame because it’s completely tricked out, earning 5 stars for extra features, as well as 4.5 stars for its simple, no-tools-required assembly. I personally evaluated this base in our studio, and I rated my overall experience 5 stars.

Our tester smiles while lounging on a Nectar Premier Adjustable Base with Nectar Split King mattresses
Our tester Kendall smiles while lounging on a Nectar Premier Adjustable Base with Nectar Split King mattresses.

When it comes to standout features, the Nectar Premier has plenty. Unlike a standard adjustable base that only offers head and leg elevation, this model offers a massage feature with three intensity levels, four built-in USB outlets, and five preset buttons, including anti-snore, zero-gravity, TV, reading, and flat. While the massage feature doesn’t provide deep-tissue relief, the slow rumbling vibration felt relaxing, and I enjoyed it more than I anticipated.

While the base seems complicated, it was surprisingly easy to set up. Simply unfold the base, twist on the legs, and plug it in. The entire process took me around 10 minutes to complete, mostly due to the weight of the base, which was a bit difficult to drag around. I rated the assembly 4.5 stars because most people should be able to set it up on their own, but those with mobility issues may want to skip the DIY and opt for Nectar’s White Glove Delivery service, which costs $199.

In addition to a quick set-up, the Nectar Premier adjustable bed frame was easy and intuitive to operate. The base comes with a wireless remote, which has clearly marked buttons, as well as a mobile app that syncs to the bed via Bluetooth. I was able to try every setting without issue and felt completely stable, with no wobbling, so I rated my experience 5 stars. The stability came from the 100% steel construction, which didn’t create any creaking noise and earned the frame 5 stars for materials.

Keep in mind that adjustable bases are typically more expensive than regular bed frames, and those with numerous features cost even more. The Nectar Premier currently costs $749 for a queen-size, which is actually very reasonable for an adjustable bed, which typically goes for around $1,000 for this size.

One thing to note before buying is your sleeping position. While back sleepers and some side sleepers are the ideal candidates for moving bed frames, we don’t recommend them to stomach sleepers. These sleepers are best suited to a standard base that won’t bend the spine at all.

Silk & Snow Bed Frame with Storage – Best Queen Bed Frame with Headboard

Silk & Snow Bed Frame with Storage

Silk & Snow Bed Frame with Storage

This upholstered bed frame combines ample storage with a sleek design and sturdy support.

Check Price

When shopping for a new bed frame, you’ll have to make a decision — to headboard or not to headboard? Personally, I’m team headboard. Not only does it elevate the visual aesthetic, but it’s also nice to lean back on when sitting up in bed. Sometimes this feature is sold separately, so I appreciate the Silk & Snow bed frame, which includes the headboard in its price.

The Silk & Snow base costs $700 for a queen-size at full retail. This is pretty middle of the road when it comes to bed frames, which can range from $100 to over $2,000, so we rated it 4 stars for price. Our tester, Sosha Lewis, thought the quality of the materials seemed to match the overall pricetag, offering stable support that doesn’t wobble or create any noise, so she also rated the materials 4 stars.

When the bed frame arrived at our studio, Sosha was able to assemble it relatively easily, but had a few roadblocks. She rated the assembly process 3.5 stars, saying, “There were no instructions; we had to Google them.” Although the assembly was pretty straightforward, the lack of clear instructions was puzzling. Silk & Snow provided the necessary tools, including an allen wrench, but our testers found it quicker to use an electric drill. With the help of this tool, the bed was assembled in about 35 minutes.

Overall, Sosha found this bed frame sturdy, calling out its 1,100-pound weight capacity that may make it a good choice for heavier couples. She rated her overall experience 4 stars, saying, “It doesn’t slide or scoot around, and I noticed no noise.” If you tend to toss and turn, you won’t have to worry about your bed frame moving, too.

Once the bed was assembled, Sosha tried out the bed frame’s storage unit, which consists of one drawer on wheels at the footboard. The storage drawer is pretty standard, easily wheeling out from the bed frame, but it isn’t attached by any sort of rails, so Sosha rated the storage unit 3.5 stars. Keep in mind that the storage unit in this mattress is quite small, so you likely won’t be able to store more than a few blankets or pillows.

KD Nomad Platform Bed – Best Queen Platform Bed Frame

KD Nomad Platform Bed

KD Nomad Platform Bed

This affordable, minimalist bed frame offers sturdy support with a natural wood finish.

Sometimes, you just want something simple. If you’re uninterested in fancy features like headboards or storage units, I recommend the KD Nomad Platform Bed. I chose the bed frame as the best platform bed frame because its no-frills design made assembly a breeze, earning 4.5 stars. Although it has a minimalist construction, it goes above expectations, providing a stable, supportive surface at a low cost, earning 5 stars for both price and overall experience.

Assembling a KD Nomad Platform Bed
I didn’t have any difficulty assembling the KD Nomad Platform Bed.

My colleague Kenny Timper and I set up this base together in our studio, finding the assembly process pretty straightforward. The bed frame came with a set of instructions consisting of diagrams. While the diagrams were labeled, the bags of screws were not. However, we found the drawings clear enough that we could tell everything apart. We rated the process 4.5 stars overall because it only took 30 minutes to complete. However, some people may find the diagrams frustrating and prefer a video, which we also looked up.

The KD Nomad’s simple construction comes with a low price tag. At full retail, a queen-size costs $299, which seems reasonable considering the simple wooden materials. It’s not offered in multiple colors, nor does it necessarily elevate the room, but the price is fair for a simple, yet reliable bed frame. Therefore, we rated the price 5 stars and the materials 4 stars.

Next, Kenny and I placed a mattress on the KD Nomad and lay on top to evaluate its support. Regardless of how much movement we made, the base remained solid and secure, and it didn’t move or wobble at all. Kenny said, “I rolled around and jumped on the bed and didn’t notice any noise or feel the base shifting under my weight.”  He rated his overall experience 5 stars.

As a platform bed frame, this base doesn’t have any extra features, so it earned 1 star in this category. This bed frame is more practical than decorative, so some sleepers may find it a bit too utilitarian for their personal style. However, if you want something sturdy and straightforward, this could be an excellent choice for you.

Big Fig Platform Bed – Best Queen Bed Frame for Heavy Sleepers

Big Fig Platform Bed

Big Fig Platform Bed

The Big Fig Platform Bed is a robust, handcrafted frame designed to support up to 2,000 lbs, ideal for heavier individuals seeking durability and style.

If you weigh more than 230 pounds, an ultra-supportive sleep surface is a top priority. One of my favorite brands for heavy sleepers is Big Fig, which is known for durable and supportive products specifically designed for larger body types. I chose the Big Fig Platform bed as my top pick for these sleepers because it earned 4.5 stars or higher in materials, assembly, extra features, and overall experience.

Although this bed can support more than 2,000 pounds of weight, its materials are relatively simple, yet they’re still of high quality, earning 4.5 stars. The Big Fig is a wood platform bed frame, sporting a wood grain pattern, and is available in two color options. When evaluating the materials, our tester Kate Meier said, “These feel incredibly durable. The wood is pretty solid, and the way the bed comes together – without any hardware – seems very sturdy.”

An assembled Big Fig Platform Bed Frame

When assembling this bed frame, Kate found the process to be pretty straightforward. She said, “If you’ve ever put a bed together before, you’ll be able to figure out what to do.”  However, she notes that the written instructions did not include pictures or diagrams, which she thinks would help novice furniture builders. Ultimately, she was able to assemble the bed on her own, but she recommends grabbing an extra set of hands. She rated the build process 4.5 stars, saying, “The material is sturdy, so it isn’t super lightweight, but it’s not incredibly heavy.”

Overall, Kate was very impressed with this bed’s ability to provide solid support. She said, “We jumped on this frame, pulled and tugged on it, and there was very little movement to it. It’s certainly one of the sturdiest platform beds we have tested!” She noted several highlights of the Big Fig, including a headboard, a lengthy 20-year warranty, and the ability to support heavy couples, so she rated both the bed’s extra features and her overall experience 5 stars.

The biggest flaw of this bed frame is its price, which we rated 3.5 stars. For a queen-size with a wooden headboard, the Big Fig Platform bed costs $2,299. If you’d prefer a fabric headboard, the price increases to  $2,549. This makes it the most expensive bed frame in this roundup. Additionally, this frame is a final sale item and not eligible for returns. Therefore, you can’t get your money back if you change your mind.

Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed – Best Storage Queen Bed Frame on Amazon

Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed

Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed

This lift-up platform bed combines hidden storage with a sleek, upholstered design, ideal for maximizing small spaces.

As someone who hates clutter but never seems to have enough storage space, I can appreciate the value of a storage bed. Instead of shoving all your items under your bed, the Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed actually raises to reveal a hidden compartment. I evaluated this base in our testing studio alongside my colleague Kenny Timper, and we rated its storage 4.5 stars. We were also impressed with the quality of the materials, which earned 4 stars, as well as its affordability. As the cheapest option on this roundup, the Allewie earned 5 stars for price.

While some storage beds offer a few drawers to keep spare sheets and pillows, the entire Allewie bed frame lifts up, allowing you to store and access a variety of items easily. According to the manufacturer, the storage compartment can fit 4+ luggage cases, 10+ quilts, 10+ storage boxes, and 20+ shoes. Kenny and I rated the storage feature 4.5 stars because it operated seamlessly and wasn’t very heavy. However, we noted that all the stored items sit directly on the floor, rather than in a built-in compartment.

In addition to the storage compartment, Kenny and I were impressed with the overall construction and materials that made up the Allewie. With an upholstered headboard and base offered in seven colors, as well as an iron frame with wooden slats, this frame has a stylish exterior and sturdy interior. Kenny said, “The materials are durable enough to support most individuals and can hold up to 800 pounds, but it may not be strong enough for heavy couples.”

The quality of the materials helps increase the overall value of this bed frame. While it’s a well-crafted and sturdy bed frame, it won’t break the bank. Currently, Amazon sells a queen-size Allewie bed frame for $275. Amazon also offers a 30-day return policy, which gives you time to decide if the base is right for you.

The biggest caveat Kenny and I had with this frame was its assembly process. Out of all the bed frames I’ve assembled, this one was the most involved and took us nearly an hour and 45 minutes to set up. The instructions were difficult to follow and lacked clear labeling. You’ll likely need help holding different pieces in place, which is why we rated the assembly process 3 stars.

Other Queen Bed Frames I Considered

In addition to the six bases I chose to highlight, there are several other quality queen bed frames on the market that made solid picks. Below, I’ll quickly break down two bonus bed frames, the Saatva Santorini Platform Bed and the Thuma Classic Bed.

Saatva Santorini Platform Bed

If you’re interested in a super sleek, minimalist design, you may be interested in the Saatva Santorini Platform Bed. Offered in four colors, this upholstered frame has high-quality materials that our testers rated 4.5 stars. This best seller offers easy assembly due to the clear instructions, but Saatva also offers White Glove Delivery at no additional cost. However, this bed has a very low profile, offering only six inches of underbed clearance. Although this provides a chic, stylish flair to the bedroom, it doesn’t allow for a ton of under-bed storage.

Thuma Classic Bed

The Thuma Classic is another solid choice for those seeking a mid-century modern platform bed. This unique frame is offered in four variations — just the frame, with a wood headboard, with a headboard and cushion, or with a pillowboard. We chose the frame with a headboard and found the 100% upcycled wood to be super durable, earning 5 stars for materials and a supportive overall experience.

We were also able to set up the bed quickly due to the joinery, which is a simple way of assembling a bed frame by sliding two pieces of wood into place. However, I thought this bed was a bit too pricey for a standard platform bed, costing almost $2,000 for a queen, so I didn’t include it in this roundup.

How We Picked and Tested These Queen Bed Frames

Every bed frame mentioned in this article has been assembled, evaluated, and slept on by our team of expert testers and certified sleep science coaches. When rounding up the best bed frames offered in a queen size, I paid extra attention to how easy the assembly process was, the quality of the materials, and the overall support our tester experienced.

Assembly

When choosing queen bed frames, I tried to pick beds that didn’t require a lot of heavy lifting or manual labor. Each queen bed frame we tested was shipped directly to our Sleepopolis studio in Charlotte, N.C, where we got hands-on experience setting them up. Before piecing them together, we noted the cost of delivery and whether the company offers assembly, whether it’s complimentary or available for purchase.

Sleep expert Sosha Lewis assembles a Saatva Santorini Bed.
Sleep expert Sosha Lewis assembles a bed at the Sleepopolis studio.

Next, our testers began assembling the bed frames based on the supplied instructions. They took note of how easy the instructions were to follow and whether they included labeled diagrams or pictures. Additionally, they observed whether the setup process required tools, and, if so, whether the tools were provided. As they put the beds together, they used a timer to measure how long the entire process took.

Materials

With any quality bed frame, you’ll find sturdy, durable materials that are designed to withstand a lot of weight. When evaluating materials, our testers looked for manufacturing errors, such as cracks in wood, flimsy upholstery, or mismatched parts. Additionally, they looked into how many pounds each bed frame could support and whether they made good choices for sleepers with larger body types. The beds on this list all earned at least 4 stars in this category, meaning you needn’t worry about your base literally cracking under pressure.

Experience

When our testers evaluated their overall experience, they rated it based on support, stability, and security. As they tested the bed frames, our sleep experts considered how sturdy they felt when sitting on the edge of the bed and lying directly on the bed. They simulated typical nighttime activities, including tossing and turning, getting in and out of bed, and even jumping on the bed.

A woman lying on a mattress that's on top of the Bear Summit Platform Bed with Headboard.
Our tester Nicole Davis gives this platform bed a thorough assessment.

We had our testers first try the bed solo and then with a partner, observing whether there was a noticeable difference in support when more weight was applied. We also asked them to pay attention to the bed’s stability on both hardwood and carpeted floors, and whether it slides around when getting into bed and moving around. Finally, we asked them to consider whether the bed made creaking or squeaking noises when in use, or if it was completely silent.

What to Consider When Buying a Queen Bed Frame

In addition to my big three, there are several other factors you may want to consider when selecting the best queen bed frame for you. Let’s quickly break down some more practical elements to keep in mind.

Extra Features

When buying a queen bed frame, consider what purpose it will serve. For example, are you shopping for your personal bedroom, or will this frame be in a guest room? Are you looking for a stylish design, specific colors, and catering to a curated aesthetic? Or, are you looking for something simple without a ton of bells and whistles?

It can also be helpful to consider whether you’re interested in a headboard or strictly a platform base. While some beds come with a headboard, some frames charge an additional price, and some come with no headboard at all. Additionally, you should pay attention to the size of the room you’ll be putting the bed in. If the room is on the smaller side, you may appreciate a bed with built-in storage compartments, such as drawers or liftable bases.

Price

Bed frames come in many different styles, each designed for a different purpose. While some are meant to be relatively basic, others have practical components or even include technical features. Since there are so many variations, bed frames can be priced very differently.

Typically, the cheapest, most simple queen-size bases cost around $100 to $300. These beds typically don’t have many extra features and may not be designed to withstand a large amount of weight. The mid-range and premium options generally cost anywhere from $500 to $2,500.

Since each shopper has a different budget, I tried to pick mattresses that range from very affordable to mostly middle of the road, and a few luxury picks. The beds on this roundup has a price range from $275 to $2,299.

Warranty

Some companies offer a warranty with their bed frame, which is always a good sign of the brand’s confidence in the product. These warranties can help protect you from manufacturing errors, defects, or damage. In general, a warranty of at least 5 years is best, but be sure to read the fine print carefully.

Mattress Compatibility

When choosing a bed frame, consider the type of bed you’ll be pairing it with. Mattresses come in a variety of constructions, including memory foam, innerspring, and hybrid, which can affect how compatible they are with a base.

According to Dr. Dasgupta, “Hybrid mattresses function well with platform beds, adjustable bases, and slatted frames.” However, you should always check with your bed’s manufacturer to see if it requires a box spring.

Additionally, some mattresses are more compatible with adjustable bases than others. In our experience, memory foam and hybrid beds excel at bending and conforming to the base as it moves. Innerspring beds, however, can be a bit too stiff, as the coils struggle to contort to extreme angles.

Best Queen Bed Frames FAQs

How big is a queen-size mattress?

A queen mattress is 60 inches wide by 80 inches long, making it larger than a full but smaller than a king.

What is the average cost of a queen bed frame?

Depending on the design, construction, materials, and features, bed frames can range from simple and cheap to extravagant and pricey. A minimalist platform bed, such as the KD Nomad, typically costs around $200–$300, while adjustable bed frames can cost upwards of $1,000. Additionally, some beds have storage units, headboards, or unique designs, which can also impact the cost.

Are metal or wooden bed frames better?

Typically, metal is the more durable material. While solid wood bed frames can be long long-lasting, they’re more prone to cracking or warping over time. On the other hand, metal bed frames can be sturdier, yet may cause a creaking noise.

What is the difference between wooden slats and box springs?

A box spring is a foundation for your mattress that offers additional support on top of a bed frame. Some bed frames don’t require the use of a box spring. Instead, they have wooden slats laid across the base to act as the primary support system.
