What is the Saatva Silk Eye Mask Made Of?
First things first, let’s go over what the Saatva Silk Eye Mask is made of. With the word “silk” in its title, we can only assume that’s going to be part of the equation — but there’s more to it than just silk.
The Saatva eye mask’s cover is specifically made with long fiber mulberry silk. This material is hypoallergenic, breathable, and temperature regulating. Another perk? Saatva says smooth silk can also prevent creases and protect the area around your eyes from friction. The elastic headband is also covered in silk and inside, the eye mask is polyester fiber fill.
Overall, the materials feel very lightweight and cozy on the face. I appreciate that the headband is stretchy enough to where it doesn’t feel tight around the head.
The Saatva eye mask comes in two colors: Sand and Slate. I tested the Slate color.
My Experience with the Saatva Silk Eye Mask
The packaging kickstarted a positive experience for me with the Saatva Silk Eye Mask. It was nicely wrapped in a quality box. Once I took it out and touched the materials, I could tell it was made well. Its silk exterior feels smooth and luxurious. When I squeezed the mask, it had a cloud-like feel and was very lightweight.
After putting the mask on, it created total darkness for me. I tested it further by putting it on and staring out my window on a sunshiny day. I only noticed the tiniest sliver of light at the bridge of my nose, but it was nothing that would keep me awake if I were lying down. It felt very comfortable on my face and not heavy or too tight whatsoever.
I slept with it on for a week — and unlike some other masks I’ve used before, I didn’t feel the urge to take it off in the middle of the night because it was annoying me or too tightly pressed against my face. I will say the silk exterior may cause the strap to move just a touch on the back of your hair if you move around a lot in your sleep, but it wasn’t sliding off my face or anything. (And that’s coming from someone who shifts around quite a bit!) I’ll also note my nightly face lotion left a few darker marks on the silk, so that’s worth keeping in mind if you also lather your face up before bed and would prefer it to not soak into the mask.
Ultimately, I really enjoyed wearing this eye mask and will definitely keep it in my rotation of sleep tools. I think it could be a great option for a lot of folks wanting a high-quality, no-frills sleep mask.
