When it comes to organic bedding, Avocado is one of the biggest names in the game. Founded in 2016, the company is on a mission to be “the world’s most sustainable brand” and the most respected source for environmentally conscious and ethical mattresses. With over 11 third-party certifications, Avocado’s mattresses have met rigorous testing standards for the quality and safety of their materials, as well as for the brand’s environmentally conscious production and manufacturing process. Today, I’ll be reviewing its most affordable model, the Avocado Eco Organic mattress.
I’m a certified sleep science coach and have been testing and reviewing mattresses with Sleepopolis for three years. I’ve been trained to recognize key performance factors so I can make recommendations to sleepers based on their individual body type, sleeping position, and sleep preferences. Our team of expert testers has evaluated more than 330 mattresses in our Charlotte, NC, studio using a rigorous testing methodology.
Sleepopolis works with a network of sleep experts and medical professionals, such as board-certified doctors, physical therapists, and registered nurses, to help determine the best mattresses for specific sleepers. We work very closely with our chief medical advisor Dr Raj. Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM, who ensures our test findings and recommendations are accurate.
When we tested this mattress, we found it most compatible with back sleepers due to the firm spinal support and subtle cushioning at the lumbar region. We also think this bed is great for lightweight sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds, as they’ll experience enough support to keep their spine aligned regardless of their sleeping position.

Avocado Eco Organic Mattress Overview
The Avocado Eco Organic mattress is a latex hybrid mattress made from organic cotton, organic wool, natural Dunlop latex, and a layer of innerspring coils. These materials provided more support than pressure relief, lifting the sleeper up and out of the mattress. While the latex offers some slight cushioning, you won’t experience deep sinkage or body contouring. It offers a medium-firm feel that’s just a tad towards the firm side, ranking at a 7 out of 10 on our firmness scale.
As a bed-in-a-box brand, the Avocado mattress arrives compressed at your door, ready to unbox and inflate. A queen-size bed weighs 94 pounds, so one person can unbox the bed solo. However, I recommend grabbing an extra set of hands to make the process quicker. When we punctured the plastic, the mattress immediately rose to its full height within a matter of minutes. I will note that the bed has a very strong stench when you first unwrap it. While this is normal for boxed beds due to the foams releasing trapped air, this off-gassing was stronger than I’ve ever smelled before. The smell dissipates after a few days, so we recommend letting it air out in a well-ventilated room for a few days before adding sheets.
During testing, this bed excelled in the responsiveness category, earning 5 out of 5 stars. The latex foam and coils offer tons of bounce, so the bed springs you from one sleeping position to the next. Combination sleepers can appreciate the ease of movement and won’t find themselves trapped in the mattress layers. The Eco Organic scored lowest in cooling, earning 2.5 stars. While this means it’s not great for hot sleepers, it’s a great pick for those who sleep cold or live in colder environments. When we tally all the scores together, this mattress earns an overall score of 4.1 out of 5 stars.

Below, see the Avocado Eco Organic being put through some of the tests in our rigorous testing methodology. Note that this is an older video and the bed has recently been retested, so the scores might be different than the ones in this review.
Avocado Eco Organic Value
When we assess a mattress’s value, we look at its materials and whether their quality and the bed’s performance match its price point. In the next section, I’ll do a deep dive into the Avocado Eco Organic’s materials. Spoiler alert — they’re extremely high quality. With over 11 different third-party certifications, the materials have met the strictest standards for safety, sustainability, and ethics. While the Eco Organic’s construction quality is exceptional, the bed performed just average during testing. Based on its overall 4.1-star average, as well as my personal experience testing it, I think the 10-year warranty is reasonable. Although the materials are solid, the edges were noticeably less supportive than the center of the bed, so the bed may need to be replaced after about a decade of use.
Avocado markets the Eco Organic as its most affordable model. Currently, a queen size costs $1,399 at full retail. Looking solely at the quality of the materials, I think this is a steal. Most standard, non-organic mattresses are priced similarly, so getting an organic bed for this price is almost unheard of. However, I think the overall performance of the bed lowers its value. Although the materials are great, they don’t necessarily perform better than the materials I’ve tested in standard beds, so I don’t think they’re significantly increasing the mattress’s value.

What Is the Avocado Eco Organic Made Of?
When we assess a mattress’s materials, we get up close and personal. I used a box cutter to open the side of the Avocado Eco Organic to evaluate each layer. This mattress is 10 inches tall and has a latex hybrid construction that combines natural Dunlop latex, wool, and cotton with a layer of sustainable innerspring coils.
This mattress has earned a plethora of third-party certifications that verify its use of organic, natural materials, low chemical emissions, and absence of heavy metals. These certifications were awarded by Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS), Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), eco-INSTITUT, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, GREENGUARD Gold, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Made Safe, and Environmental Working Group (EWG).

Cover – A soft, breathable cover made from GOTS-certified organic cotton and wool. It has a slightly fuzzy feel that’s cozy on the skin.
Comfort Layer – A layer of Dunlop latex foam designed with an open-cell structure to promote airflow. It feels moderately dense and has a quick response to pressure. This material feels firmer than typical memory foam.
Support Layer – An 8-inch layer of individually wrapped recycled steel coils. The coils move individually when pressure is applied, rather than as an entire unit, which can help decrease motion transfer.

Avocado Eco Organic Mattress Firmness
It can be difficult to pin down mattress firmness, as different sleepers have different opinions on what feels soft or firm. Depending on your body type and preferred sleeping position, a mattress can feel very different to you than it does to me. To get an accurate firmness assessment, I invited several testers to lie on the mattress in three sleeping positions. Each tester provided their personal firmness rating, and then we found the average to create the final firmness score. We rate firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. We consider a score of 6.5 out of 10 to represent a true medium-firm feel, which is the most common firmness across mattresses.

The Avocado Eco Organic mattress fell at a 7 out of 10 on our firmness scale, meaning it’s a medium-firm bed that leans slightly firm. When I lay down on the bed, I thought its feel was most compatible with back sleeping. While the bed didn’t necessarily feel plush, it offered great support that helped promote spinal alignment, as well as some slight sinkage to cushion the lumbar region. My body was lifted up and out of the mattress, and I felt more “on” the mattress than “in” the mattress.
Avocado Eco Organic Mattress Performance
When choosing a new mattress, there are some important performance factors you’ll want to pay attention to. I assessed the Avocado Eco Organic mattress for pressure relief, motion isolation, responsiveness, cooling, and edge support with help from my fellow testers Kenny Timper and Erin Chiles.
Our tests collected both objective and subjective data to help us better understand how the mattress performs for different types of sleepers. Below, I’ll summarize each test and how the Avocado Eco Organic performed.
Avocado Eco Organic Pressure Relief Performance
Pressure relief is an important element in any mattress, regardless of your sleeping position and body type. According to our chief medical advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta, contouring materials like memory foam or latex are ideal for cushioning the body’s sensitive pressure points. This allows for these areas, such as the hips, shoulders, and lower back, to find sinkage and proper weight distribution.
How well a mattress relieves pressure for you is largely determined by your weight and how far you sink into the bed’s layers. Since I weigh less than 130 pounds, I fall in the lightweight sleeper category. To see how the bed performs for average-weight and heavier sleepers, I invited Kenny to lie on the mattress in the back- and side-sleeping positions. He falls in the average-weight sleeper category, meaning he weighs between 130 and 230 pounds.
Kenny and I gave the Avocado Eco Organic an average pressure relief score of 3.8 stars in the back-sleeping position and 2.5 stars in the side-sleeping position. When we averaged these scores together, we got an overall pressure relief rating of 3.2 stars, meaning this bed isn’t the most plush or cushiony. It provides firmer support rather than slow sinkage.
When I lay on my back, I felt a lot of lift at my hips from the coil layer, which prevented me from sinking too far into the bed. While my spine was kept in a straight position, I still felt a touch of cushioning at my hips and lower back. This felt really soothing and comfortable, so I rated the pressure relief 4.5 stars. Kenny sank further into the bed than I did, so he felt some slight pressure building in his lower back. While he thought most average-weight back sleepers like him would feel fine on this mattress, he suspected those with chronic lower back pain might need more support, so he rated the position 3 stars.
I also want to note that I found this bed compatible with lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers. I experienced enough support at my hips to lift them in line with my shoulders. This prevented my lower back from falling into a U shape, which could lead to pain over time. However, I think heavy stomach sleepers will find too much sinkage at their hips in this position, so I’d steer them towards a more supportive bed.
When I tried this bed in the side-sleeping position, I did not experience good pressure relief. While the bed isn’t overly firm, the top layers aren’t super plush, and there’s minimal contouring at the hips and shoulders in this position. There’s no pillow top or foam quilted into the cover, so there’s no initial plushness and cushioning at the joints. Although my spine was aligned, I felt pressure building in these areas, so I rated the bed 3 stars for pressure relief in this position.
Kenny didn’t feel very comfortable side sleeping on this bed either, so he gave the bed only 2 stars for pressure relief in this position. “This mattress doesn’t offer a lot of cushioning around your joints,” he said. “It might be good for side sleepers seeking a supportive mattress that keeps their spine aligned, but I don’t recommend it to those seeking deep sinkage and contouring.”

Avocado Eco Organic Motion Isolation
If you sleep with a partner, you may have experienced sleep disturbance due to their movement throughout the night. When a mattress isolates motion well, it absorbs the vibration on impact and prevents it from traveling across the bed. If you’re easily awakened or have a restless partner, a high motion isolation score can be key to sounder sleep. Dr. Dasgupta says motion isolation can also indicate a mattress’s overall quality and durability. I evaluated the Avocado Eco Organic using a ripple test and a partner test, for which it earned an overall motion isolation score of 3 stars.
I started with the ripple test, which involved placing a full container of water on one side of the mattress and then climbing into bed and rolling around on the other side. I observed the water and how my motion impacted it. If the water remains mostly still with only a few ripples, then it’s unlikely your movements on a mattress will cause major disturbance to your partner. When I got in bed, the water inside the tub began to sway from side to side. The more I shifted around, the more the water sloshed around in the tub. While the water didn’t spill onto the bed, it was definitely creeping up the side of the container, so I gave the bed 3 stars for the ripple test.

Next, I lay down on the mattress wearing a blindfold while Kenny climbed into bed next to me and switched between sleeping positions. Due to the bouncy latex and coils, I’m not surprised that this mattress struggled to isolate motion to one area. I could feel every move Kenny made, and my body was being moved along with him. I felt like I was sleeping on a rickety boat that had come across some choppy waves. Although I’m a pretty sound sleeper, I think a restless partner’s motion would disrupt my sleep, so I rated the bed 3 stars for the partner test.
Based on the above tests, I would not recommend this mattress to light sleepers who are easily awakened. If your partner tends to toss and turn throughout the night, you’ll likely feel every move they make and may experience more frequent sleep disturbances. Very deep sleepers may be able to slumber through a partner’s tossing and turning, but I think this bed is better suited for solo sleepers.
Avocado Eco Organic Responsiveness
Responsiveness refers to the rate at which a mattress bounces back after pressure has been applied. Latex mattresses, such as the Avocado Eco Organic, usually offer more bounce than memory foam mattresses due to their natural buoyancy. We evaluate responsiveness by seeing how easy it is to move around on the mattress, which is important for combination sleepers who roll around at night. Based on four tests, the Avocado earned 5 stars for responsiveness
Switch test: For this test, a tester lay on their back and rolled onto their side and then stomach. While switching positions, they noted how much effort they had to exert and whether they felt trapped in the bed’s layers. When Kenny performed this test on the Avocado, he had great mobility. “This bed is super bouncy thanks to its latex hybrid construction,” he said. “It’s very easy to switch between different positions and move around on it.” Since he was able to roll around with no effort, he gave the bed 5 stars for the switch test.
Responsiveness test: Next, our tester Erin Chiles placed a 53-pound kettlebell onto the center of the mattress and allowed it to fully sink in. Then, she pulled it straight up and used a stopwatch to time how long it took for the bed to return to its original shape. The Avocado Eco Organic took 0.3 seconds to fully bounce back, which means it doesn’t hold “memory” of your body’s pressure. This is extremely responsive, so the bed earned 5 stars for this test.

Sinkage test: Erin then grabbed the 53-pound kettlebell again and allowed it to sink into the bed. She used a ruler to measure exactly how far it went in and found 3.3 inches of sinkage. This depth put the Avocado in the “moderate sinkage” category, which I think is accurate to what I experienced. There’s definitely some slight sinkage and cushioning, but it’s not a deep, hugging sensation.

Bounce test: Finally, Erin measured the Avocado Eco Organic’s bounciness. She climbed up a ladder until she was 6 feet above the bed and dropped a 25-pound steel ball onto its surface. A yardstick on the wall allowed us to see exactly how high the ball rebounded, which was 29 inches. The average bed provides 16.3 inches of bounce on this test, so the Avocado definitely fell in the “high bounce” category.

Based on the above tests, I would recommend the Avocado Eco Organic mattress to combination sleepers who frequently switch between sleeping positions. Since there’s not too much sinkage, you’ll be able to seamlessly move around without feeling stuck in the bed. There’s also a lot of bounce from the latex and coils, so the bed helps spring you from one position to the next.
Avocado Eco Organic Cooling
If you sleep hot, you may want to pay close attention to this section. Some mattresses are made with cooling materials that help combat sweaty nights by wicking away moisture and promoting airflow. The Avocado Eco Organic contains GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex, which is a natural cooling material. The bed also contains perforated holes in the latex layer and breathable innerspring coils, so we predicted a high score from the cooling test. However, we were disappointed with the mattress’s performance in our thermal gun test, cover test, and feel test, and gave it an overall cooling score of 2.5 stars.
Thermal gun test: We use a thermal gun on each mattress we test to determine how it responds to body heat. First, we record the initial temperature of the bed before anyone has touched it. Then, a tester lies down for five minutes before recording the mattress’s temperature again and calculating the increase. If the temperature increases by fewer than 4 degrees, we consider it to have excellent cooling. An increase of 4.1 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, 10 to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, and more than 15 degrees indicates poor cooling.
When Erin performed this test, the Avocado Eco Organic went from 66.8 degrees to 80.6 degrees. This is a huge increase of 13.8 degrees, which indicates poor cooling abilities. While the materials and construction indicated this bed would thrive in this category, our thermal gun suggested the mattress may not be quite as cooling as the brand says.
Cover test: Before conducting the thermal gun test, Erin felt the surface of the mattress and observed whether it was cool to the touch or noticeably warm. While she didn’t think the bed felt hot, it didn’t have an initial cold feel, which hot sleepers particularly enjoy as it provides immediate cooling upon lying down. Erin thought the bed had a cozy, temperature-neutral feel before anyone had lain on it.

Feel test: As Erin rested on the bed for five minutes during the thermal gun test, she paid attention to the way the bed felt under her body, as well as her own body temperature, and whether she could feel either growing warmer. “Upon lying down, I immediately felt the bed heating up,” she said. “If you sleep cold and like to feel warm and cozy, this bed is great. But hot sleepers will likely find this bed too warm.”
Based on the above tests, I do not recommend this bed to hot sleepers. If anything, I recommend this bed to those who run cold or live in colder climates. While it has cooling latex and plenty of airflow, the temperature regulation was subpar and didn’t prevent Erin from heating up.
Avocado Eco Organic Edge Support
Edge support refers to how well a mattress holds up around its perimeter when weight is applied, whether you’re sitting on the edge to tie your shoes or sleeping near the side of the bed. Strong edge support helps maximize usable surface area and can prevent that “roll-off” feeling. This appeals to couples, as it can help the bed feel larger, and people with mobility issues who rely on strong edges when getting in and out of bed. I tested edge support on the Avocado Eco Organic mattress using a tape measure test, a seated test, and a full body test to create a final score of 4.3 stars.
Tape measure test: This test, which we also call the weighted edge support test, involves stacking weighted plates together to simulate three body types — a 99-pound sleeper, a 154-pound sleeper, and a 198-pound sleeper. We placed each weight stack directly on the edge of the mattress and used a tape measure to measure how much the layers collapsed. From the lightest to the heaviest stacks, the sinkage went from 1 inch to 2 inches to 2.5 inches. When we averaged the scores from each stack, the mattress earned an overall score of 5 stars for this test.

Seated test: As the name implies, this test involved someone sitting directly on the edge of the mattress. This tester stood up several times and observed how secure they felt and whether they were at risk of falling off the bed. When I performed this test, I noticed that the layers significantly collapsed under my weight. In some hybrid beds, only the foam compresses, and the coils keep the sleeper lifted. However, the coils sank down as I applied weight. I felt slightly unstable in this position, but I did appreciate the bounce from the coils assisting me when I stood up, so I gave the bed 3 stars for the seated test.

Full body test: During this test, I evaluated how supportive the sides of the bed were when lying on my back, side, and stomach. On the Avocado, I didn’t feel very supported when lying near the edge. There’s a clear difference in support between the center of the bed and the very edge, and I could see myself gravitating toward the center of the bed. While I would still be able to sleep on these edges without falling off, I think I’d be hyperaware of my closeness to the edge, so I awarded the bed 3.5 stars for the lying down test.
Avocado Eco Organic Mattress Performance for Couples
If you sleep with a partner, the most relevant categories to pay attention to are cooling, motion isolation, edge support, and responsiveness. Based on the Avocado Eco Organic mattress’s performance in these categories, I don’t think it’s the best choice for couples, but I think it could be great for single sleepers.
This bed is very bouncy, earning 5 stars for responsiveness, so sexually active couples should be able to switch between positions easily without feeling stuck in the bed. However, this level of bounce makes it harder for the bed to isolate motion, and the Avocado only earned 3 stars in this category. If your partner is a combination sleeper or moves around frequently, you’ll likely feel their movement travel to your side of the bed.
The Avocado earned an average of 4.3 stars during our edge support test, but I didn’t feel very secure when I was lying directly on the edge of the bed. I think couples may struggle to fully sprawl out and use the entire surface area of the bed, and they may find themselves crowding the center. Couples are also likely to overheat on this mattress, as two bodies overheat quicker than just one, and the bed only earned 2.5 stars in cooling.
While this bed isn’t one of the best mattresses for couples, solo sleepers will be less affected by these categories. Without a partner, they can take up the entire bed themselves, won’t be affected by a tossing a turning partner, and won’t heat up as much.
Other Performance Factors to Consider
While those tests covered a lot, we’re not quite done with the Avocado Eco Organic mattress. There are a few more things you’ll want to keep in mind before clicking “add to cart.”
Sex
We create our overall score for sex based on responsiveness, cooling, and edge support. What makes a mattress good for couples also makes it compatible with having sex. The Avocado earned a 5-star score in responsiveness, so it will be easy for couples to move around and switch positions. While I wouldn’t sleep directly on the edge of the bed, I think the 4.3-star edge support is strong enough to prevent you and a partner from rolling off the bed. However, I’d be wary of things getting too steamy, as the 2.5-star cooling indicates the bed is likely to significantly heat up. When we combine the scores from all three categories, the Avocado Eco Organic earns 3.9 stars for sex. Although this isn’t a perfect score, I think most sexually active couples will still be able to do the deed without having to pause and complain about the mattress.
Noise
Erin evaluated the Avocado Eco Organic for noise by compressing its layers, rolling around, and sitting down on the bed. Regardless of how aggressively she moved, there was no creaking coming from the coil layer or puffs of air releasing from the latex foam. If you tend to toss and turn at night, you won’t hear any disruptive sounds coming from this bed, so it earned 5 stars for noise.
Base Compatibility
If you own an adjustable base, the Avocado Eco Organic will pair well with it. Erin tested the compatibility by placing the mattress on an adjustable base in our studio and raising and lowering the head and feet to different angles. When she placed the base in the zero-gravity preset, the mattress easily bent and wasn’t inhibited by its coil layer. There was minimal gapping between the bed and the base, and the two moved as a single unit, so she rated the compatibility 5 stars.

Durability
Durability is important in a mattress because it allows you to get the most use out of your product. A mattress is an important decision, as well as a pricey one, so you want to be sure it will last you decades. We evaluate durability by looking at the materials, support, edge support, and warranty. Strong support that extends all the way to the edge of the mattress can prevent the bed from sagging prematurely. The quality of materials can also affect durability, as cheap materials tend to deteriorate quicker than high-quality ones. Finally, I always take a peek at the mattress warranty, as it shows the brand’s confidence in its product and how long the mattress is expected to last.
Overall, I think the Avocado Eco Organic is a fairly durable mattress, but I wouldn’t expect it to last longer than 10 years. There’s no denying the bed is packed with high-quality materials due to the abundance of quality and safety certifications it obtained. Additionally, Kenny and I found a good level of support for our body types from the coil layer, but we don’t think it’s quite supportive enough for heavy sleepers. The edges are noticeably less supportive than the center of the bed, so I foresee these sagging over the years. I’ll also note that when we were moving the bed around our studio, it didn’t feel very solid — it was flopping back and forth as we pushed it on its side. Avocado offers a 10-year limited warranty on this mattress, which is about how long I’d expect the mattress to last before the edges begin to sag.

Avocado Eco Organic Sleeping Position and Body Weight
Your body type and sleeping position can largely affect the way a mattress feels for you. For example, something that provides plush cushioning for a lightweight back sleeper may not provide enough support for heavy side sleepers. Below, I’ll break down each weight category and how the bed may feel in different positions
Before we dive into our recommendations, though, we want to recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 230 pounds).
As a general takeaway, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average-weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average-weight sleepers and sink into the mattress more. As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers likely need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.
Is the Avocado Eco Organic a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – These sleepers will find lots of firm support that lifts the hips in line with the shoulders. While their spine will be straight, they’ll still experience some slight cushioning at the hips and lower back.
- Light Side Sleepers – These sleepers might find this bed slightly too firm in this position, as there’s not much sinkage at the hips and shoulders. However, those who prefer a firm feel can appreciate the spinal alignment this mattress provides.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – Stomach sleepers will find enough support at their hips to prop them in line with their shoulders and keep their spine straight.

Is the Avocado Eco Organic a Good Mattress for Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 pounds)?
- Average-Weight Back Sleepers – These sleepers will find a bit of sinkage at their hips in this position but remain primarily lifted up and out of the mattress. Those with lower back pain, however, may need slightly more support to prevent pressure building as the hips sink.
- Average-Weight Side Sleepers – These sleepers will feel great spinal alignment in this position, but they may prefer a mattress with more contouring at the pressure points, unless they prefer an “on the bed” feel.
- Average-Weight Stomach Sleepers – The mattress should be supportive enough for stomach sleepers, but those on the heavier end of the average-weight range may need a tad more support at their hips.
Is the Avocado Eco Organic a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 230 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – We did not find this mattress supportive enough for heavy sleepers in any sleeping position.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – See above.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – See above.

My Final Thoughts About the Avocado Eco Organic Mattress
Let’s summarize some of my favorite things about the Avocado Eco Organic, as well as some negative callouts.
Who I Recommend the Avocado Eco Organic For
- Lightweight sleepers will find great spinal alignment and subtle cushioning regardless of their sleeping position.
- If you tend to run cold or live in a colder climate, you can appreciate this bed’s cozy, thermal feel.
- Combination sleepers can easily move from one position to the next thanks to its 5-star responsiveness.
- Shoppers seeking a sustainable, eco-friendly mattress can appreciate the Avocado’s organic materials and ethical construction.

Who I Don’t Recommend the Avocado Eco Organic For

Avocado Eco Organic vs. Competitor
If you’re an eco-conscious shopper seeking an organic mattress, you’ve likely encountered numerous options online. Let’s compare the Avocado Eco Organic mattress to another organic bed in a box — the Saatva Latex Hybrid.
Avocado Eco Organic vs Saatva Latex Hybrid
Like the Avocado, the Saatva Latex Hybrid is made from natural latex, organic cotton, and wool, and individually pocketed coils. However, we found the Saatva to be slightly softer than the Avocado, falling at a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. While the Avocado is flat across the surface, the Saatva has wool quilted into its cotton cover, which creates a plush, mini-pillow top effect. Overall, the Saatva scored higher during testing, earning an average of 4.5 stars compared to Avocado’s 4.1 stars.
- Price: The Saatva is $1,100 more expensive than the Avocado, with a queen costing $2,499 at full retail.
- Sleeping position: Both mattresses are great for back sleepers. The Saatva is plusher and offers more pressure relief for side sleepers.
- Cooling: The Saatva scored better in cooling, earning 4 out of 5 stars.
- Body weight: The Saatva is overall more supportive and is compatible with heavy back sleepers.

Other Models From Avocado
In addition to the Eco Organic mattress, Avocado offers a few more models, including the Green and the Luxury Organic. Let’s see how these two models compare to the Avocado Eco Organic.
Avocado Eco Organic vs Avocado Green
The Avocado Green is the brand’s best-selling mattress and markets itself as “the most affordable GOTS-certified organic mattress in America.” This bed is offered in Standard Firm, Pillow Top Medium, and Box-Top Plush models, and we tested the Standard Firm model in our studio. With an 11-inch profile, the Green is one inch taller than the Eco Organic and has a tufted cover. Otherwise, these mattresses are pretty similar with their 3-layer latex hybrid constructions and 7 out of 10 firmness levels. During testing, we found slightly better cooling and edge support from the Green model. Overall, the Avocado Green earned an average of 4.4 out of 5 stars.
- Price: The Eco Organic is currently $700 cheaper than the Avocado Green at full retail.
- Sleeping position: Both mattresses are best for back sleepers and responsive enough for combination sleepers.
- Cooling: The Avocado Green scored higher in cooling, earning 4 stars.
- Body weight: Neither mattress is the best mattress for heavy people.

Avocado Eco Organic vs Avocado Luxury Organic
The Avocado Luxury Organic is an upgraded latex hybrid model made with a whopping 17 layers consisting of latex, wool, silk, hemp, cotton, and pocketed coils. Offered in Medium, Plush, and Ultra Plush models, the Luxury Organic is marketed as a decadently soft mattress. While I haven’t had the pleasure of testing this mattress myself, the bed earned 4.6 stars on Avocado’s website based on 200+ customer reviews.
- Price: The Luxury Organic in the Medium model is currently $3,400 more expensive than the Eco Organic mattress. The Luxury Organic’s Plush model is an additional $1,000 and the Ultra Plush model is an additional $2,500.
- Sleeping position: The Luxury Organic is likely best for side sleeping, as its soft layers provide cushioning at the hips and shoulders.
- Cooling: We have not yet tested the Luxury Organic for cooling.
- Body weight: We have not yet tested the Luxury Organic for different body types.

Our Review Process
At Sleepopolis, our team of certified sleep science coaches personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time lying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.
