The Cloverlane Hybrid mattress is a luxury bed made with foam and coils that comes in three firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. It features a Euro top cover with a cooling cover, gel-infused memory foam, a latex lumbar support, and individually wrapped coils. We tested the Firm model and found it to be fairly firm, offering a good level of support for back and stomach sleepers.
The Cloverlane Hybrid is not a bed-in-a-box mattress — it comes with free white glove delivery, meaning it ships uncompressed and a delivery team will set it up in your room of choice. This also means there are no off-gassing smells to worry about, which can be the case with other bed-in-a-box mattresses. The delivery team who brought us the Cloverlane Hybrid mattress was very friendly and helpful — we had a great experience with the white glove delivery.
Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress Review Video
Want to see the Cloverlane Hybrid up close and personal? Check out my video review of the mattress, where I’ll put it through a series of tests and score the bed on each factor. After all the tests, I gave the Cloverlane Hybrid a final score of 4.5 out of 5.
Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress Sleepopolis Score
You will likely notice the Cloverlane Hybrid received a comparatively low score in our cooling test — this was based on the results from our temperature gun test, in which we see how much heat the mattress retains after a tester lays on it. The Cloverlane Hybrid retained enough heat that we considered it to only have “decent” cooling capabilities. If you want to see some better cooling options, take a look at our best cooling mattresses.
What Is the Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress Made Of?
Let’s take a look at what exactly makes up the Cloverlane Hybrid. Knowing what a mattress is made of can help you better understand how it will feel and perform.
Cover – The Cloverlane Hybrid has a quilted cover made of a polyester and polyethylene blend. It’s quilted with foam, which adds some initial plushness to the surface of the mattress. The cover also has an antimicrobial treatment. Cloverlane does also offer an option to upgrade to an Extra Cooling cover for $199, which you can choose when purchasing the mattress.
Comfort Layer – The first layer under the cover is a 2-inch section of gel-infused memory foam. This initial foam layer provides pressure relief and contours around the sleeper. The gel infusions are intended to provide a cooling effect by drawing heat away from the body.
Zoned Lumbar Support Layer – Underneath the comfort layer lies a zoned section of latex. This half-inch thick latex layer doesn’t span the entire length of the mattress — rather, it iees positioned across the middle of the bed to target the lower back. This is meant to provide additional back support and reduce back pain.
Transition Layer – Next is a 2.5-inch layer of foam that serves as a transition between the plusher comfort foam above and the sturdy support layer.
Support Layer – Finally, an 8-inch section of individually wrapped coils makes up the support layer of the mattress. These coils provide the primary support for the sleeper’s body on the mattress. Individually wrapped coils are more responsive and reduce motion transfer, compared to traditional interlocking coils. These coils also allow room for airflow within the mattress.
Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress Firmness
At Sleepopolis, we rate the firmness of every mattress we test on a 1 to 10 scale. This firmness rating is our way of positioning how soft or firm the mattress feels in comparison to the hundreds of other mattresses we’ve tested. On our scale, 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. We use 6.5 as the standard for a medium-firm mattress, the most common mattress firmness.
To determine the firmness of a mattress, we test out laying on the bed and change between sleeping positions. We compare it against medium-firmness and determine what rating to give the bed. Keep in mind that firmness is inherently subjective, so you may perceive the mattress differently than we did.
Ultimately, I rated the Cloverlane Hybrid’s firmness as 7 out of 10, meaning it is slightly firmer than average. Now, keep in mind that this mattress comes in three firmness levels (Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm) and I tested the Firm model, so the other two likely have a softer feel.
When I first laid on the Cloverlane Hybrid, it felt quite plush — the top layer feels similar to a pillow top. However, I didn’t sink into the material much and overall felt very lifted up and out of the structure — “on top” of the bed, rather than “in it.”

Ideal for lightweight and average weight stomach sleepers.Sleeping Position and Body Weight
With the construction and firmness in mind, let’s go over how sleepers of different weights might experience the Cloverlane Hybrid in each sleeping position.
Here’s my take on how each sleeper type will feel on the Cloverlane Hybrid. Keep in mind again that I tested the Firm model, so the other firmnesses may be better in certain situations.
Is the Cloverlane Hybrid a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – I think many light back sleepers will be comfortable on the Firm Cloverlane Hybrid. While it is firm (and may feel even firmer to them than it did to me), the top layers still offer some solid cushioning for the shoulders and lower back. Light back sleepers could also likely opt for the Luxury Firm model instead, for a little more cushioning, if desired.
- Light Side Sleepers – The Firm Cloverlane Hybrid will likely feel too firm for most light side sleepers. I don’t think it offers enough pressure relief to keep their shoulders and hips from developing pressure points. However, the Plush Soft version could work better here.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – I think light stomach sleepers should be happy on the Firm Cloverlane Hybrid. It offers a good amount of support and uplift to keep the hips up and out of the structure.
Is the Cloverlane Hybrid a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Firm Cloverlane Hybrid is an excellent match for average weight back sleepers. I fall into this weight group and I felt the bed offered a pleasant mix of comfort and support, which is what I look for in a mattress for back sleeping. The coils provide sturdy support for the spine, while the plusher cover allows for some cushioning.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – I found the Firm Cloverlane Hybrid a bit too firm for comfortably side sleeping. It wasn’t terrible, but I did feel some noticeable discomfort around my shoulder, in particular. However, the Plush Soft model may be a better option.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – I think the Firm Cloverlane Hybrid is a solid choice for average weight stomach sleepers. I didn’t feel my hips sinking into the material, and thus my lower back felt neutral.
Is the Cloverlane Hybrid a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – The Firm Cloverlane Hybrid should be a good choice for heavy back sleepers. This mattress has a sturdy construction that should provide good support for this group, while still experiencing some of that plusher cushioning from the quilted cover.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – I think the Firm Cloverlane Hybrid will likely be a bit too firm for most heavy side sleepers. Even though these folks may sink into the material more than I did, they may sink in so far that they are “bottoming out” on the coils, which could lead to pressure buildup. The Luxury Firm or Plush Soft Cloverlane Hybrid could be better options for heavy side sleepers.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – The Firm Cloverlane Hybrid could work for some heavy side sleepers, but a slightly firmer bed could be even better to ensure their hips stay lifted up and out of the structure.
Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress Performance
In addition to how a mattress feels to sleep on, we also like to assess how a mattress performs in a few other areas, such as pressure relief, motion isolation, responsiveness, cooling, and edge support. These factors can play into how well a bed will work for your lifestyle.
Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress Pain Relief Performance
Pressure relief is an important performance factor for many different types of sleepers, including side sleepers, sleepers with joint or back pain, or anyone who prefers a cushioned sleeping surface. Aside from personally assessing how much or how little pressure we feel when laying on a mattress, we also like to put each bed to the test with our heat-mapping pressure mat. This device uses thermal imaging to generate a color-coded map of where pressure is building on a sleepers’ body when lying on a mattress.
Blues and greens indicate lower pressure, while yellows and reds indicate higher pressure. Below are my pressure map results from back and side sleeping on the Cloverlane Hybrid.
As you can see, there is very little pressure buildup when I’m on my back on the Cloverlane Hybrid, so this is an excellent result and shows that back sleepers shouldn’t feel much pressure buildup on this bed. For side sleeping, the results aren’t quite as good. There is some noticeable pressure buildup, which correlates with how I felt laying on my side. However, this was the Firm version of the mattress, so one of the softer models may offer better results.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is how much movement carries across a mattress. This is particularly important for those who share the bed with a partner or pet. If a mattress can isolate motion well, then you shouldn’t feel any movement from a partner or pet moving around on the other side of the bed. If a bed doesn’t isolate motion well, then you’re likely to feel a lot of motion transfer, which can disturb your sleep.
We come up with our motion transfer score using a few different tests. The first one is simple: we just lie down on the mattress with a colleague, roll around, and see how much of each other’s movement we feel. We also place a full wine glass on the mattress, and see how much the wine moves around with us. If the liquid has zero to little movement, then it’s a safe bet that the mattress has low motion transfer, which is what you want to see.
Finally, there’s our seismometer test. This involves dropping a 10 pound steel ball from heights of four inches, eight inches and 12 inches, then measuring the disturbance it causes: the bigger the lines on the graph, the bigger the disturbance and the higher the motion transfer.
After putting the Cloverlane Hybrid through our three tests, I decided it performed fairly well at isolating motion. There definitely was some motion transfer, but overall the bed did a good job of isolating at the source and preventing most of that motion from transferring.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness is a measure of how quickly the mattress responds to pressure, which correlates to how easy it is to move around on the mattress. This is an important measure for combination sleepers who change between sleeping positions, for people with mobility issues, and for having sex.
I tested the Cloverlane Hybrid’s responsiveness by moving around on the mattress to see how easy or difficult it was. After rolling around and changing between sleeping positions, I decided it was overall easy to move around on the bed. Since I didn’t sink into the material much, it didn’t take much effort to roll over into a different sleeping position. However, the bed didn’t have much bounce to it, so I’d say it was responsive but not bouncy.
Cooling
Cooling is another important factor we like to test. Having a cooling mattress can be beneficial to those who run warm, those who live in hot climates, and those who sleep with a partner.
First, we like to look at the mattress’s materials to see how they may affect the cooling. The Cloverlane Hybrid is a hybrid with a large coil section, which should allow for a good amount of airflow in the mattress. That means hot air can escape rather than being trapped. It also has polyethylene in the cover, which is a material I’ve consistently found can provide a cooling effect. So at first glance, I assumed this bed should have moderately good cooling capabilities.
We also test out each mattress with a device called a thermal gun, which uses color-coded imaging to measure how much and how quickly a mattress heats up when we lie down on it. If it heats up more than 15 degrees Fahrenheit, we consider it to have poor cooling capabilities. 10 to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, 5 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, and less than 5 degrees indicates excellent cooling.
When we put the Cloverlane Hybrid to the test with the temperature gun, it increased by about 13.2 degrees after five minutes of a tester laying on the bed. This would qualify as decent cooling. Overall, I would say the Cloverlane Hybrid probably isn’t a top pick if cooling is a high priority for you, but it’s not a bad option for the average sleeper.
Edge Support
Edge support refers to how well the perimeter of a mattress bears weight. Ideally, you want to feel as supported along the edge of the bed as you do in the center. Poor edge support would mean the perimeter would collapse beneath your weight while sitting or lying along the edge.
To test the Cloverlane Hybrid’s edge support, I sat and lied along the edge of the bed to see whether I would stay supported or whether it would sag beneath me. The edges sank a good bit when I sat on the perimeter of the bed, which was not very impressive — especially for such a tall and otherwise sturdy mattress. However, when I moved to lay on the edge, it held up much better under my weight. Because the result was a little mixed here, I would say the edge support is good, but not great.
Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress Performance For Couples
When deciding whether a mattress is good for couples, we like to take the last four tests I went over into consideration: motion transfer, responsiveness (for sex), cooling, and edge support (allows couples to maximize the surface area of the bed).
Looking at these four factors, the Cloverlane Hybrid is a good bed for couples. It performed moderately well at motion isolation, responsiveness, and edge support, but was only decent for cooling. It’s not a standout option, but it should still be a good choice for many couples. Additionally, couples will likely appreciate having the three firmness level options to choose from, as they can choose the firmness level that works best for them.

Ideal for lightweight and average weight stomach sleepers. My Final Thoughts about the Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress
With all the tests I covered in mind, here are my final recommendations for who should get the Cloverlane Hybrid mattress and who should consider another mattress.
Who I Recommend the Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress For
- The Cloverlane Hybrid should be a good choice for all three sleeping positions, since it comes in three firmness levels. The Firm model I tested worked well for back and stomach sleeping, but the Plush Soft model should be a good option for side sleepers.
- Couples should be fairly happy with the Cloverlane Hybrid mattress. While it didn’t excel strongly in our couples-related tests, it performed well enough in all four that it should be a good choice.
- Shoppers who like a tall profile for their mattress should appreciate the bed’s 15-inch height.
- Sleepers of all weight groups should feel adequately supported on the Cloverlane Hybrid mattress.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress For
- Hot sleepers may prefer a bed with stronger cooling capabilities. The Cloverlane Hybrid performed decently in our cooling test, but there are better options out there. See our best cooling mattresses to check some out.
- Budget shoppers may prefer something at a lower price point — for a queen size, the Cloverlane Hybrid is priced over $2,000.

Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress Vs
Still not sure if the Cloverlane Hybrid is the best mattress for you? Below I’ve put the Cloverlane Hybrid up against a few competitor mattresses, to help you narrow down your choice.
Cloverlane Hybrid vs Saatva Classic
The Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress that’s available in three firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. The bed features a coil-on-coil construction, with a layer of interlocking coils underneath a layer of individually wrapped coils. It also features a memory foam lumbar support and Euro top. When we tested the Luxury Firm model, we rated it as 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The Cloverlane Hybrid and Saatva Classic are in the same general price range, but the Saatva is about $100 cheaper at full retail price.
- Sleeping position: Both of these mattresses are versatile options for all three sleeping positions, since they come in three different firmness levels.
- Cooling: The Saatva Classic and Cloverlane Hybrid tested similarly with our temperature gun — the Saatva Classic increased in temperature by about 11.9 degrees and the Cloverlane Hybrid increased by about 13.2 degrees, so these are both decent cooling mattresses.
- Body weight: Both of these mattresses should be supportive enough for people in all three weight groups.

Patty, Saatva customerCloverlane Hybrid vs Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress is a hybrid that comes in three firmness levels (Soft, Medium, Firm), as well as a standard or pillow top model. We tested the Medium model and felt it was just softer than average — rating it as 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: Without the pillow top, the Aurora Luxe is a few hundred dollars less than the Cloverlane Hybrid. With the pillow top, it’s slightly more expensive.
- Sleeping position: Having three firmness options, the Aurora Luxe is also a pretty versatile choice for each sleeping position. The Medium model we tested was a good choice for back and side sleepers.
- Cooling: The Aurora Luxe’s cover utilizes phase change material, which reacts to your body temperature in real time to maintain a cooler temperature. We found it had a cool-to-the-touch feel in testing.
- Body weight: The Firm model of the Aurora Luxe could work for some heavy sleepers, but we felt the Medium model we tested may not offer enough support for these folks and was better suited for light to average weight sleepers.

Cloverlane Hybrid vs DreamCloud
The DreamCloud mattress is a hybrid bed made with foams and coils. It has a quilted cashmere blend cover, gel-infused memory foam, and pocketed coils. When we tested it, we felt it was just firmer than average and rated it as 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The DreamCloud is considerably less expensive than the Cloverlane Hybrid. It is priced around $1,300 for a queen size, compared to over $2,000 for the Cloverlane Hybrid.
- Sleeping position: We found the DreamCloud was best-suited for back sleeping. Some lightweight stomach sleepers may find it firm enough as well, but despite its firmer feel, we don’t recommend it for average to heavy stomach sleepers.
- Cooling: The DreamCloud sleeps fairly cool, as it is a hybrid and utilizes gel-infusions in the foam. However, it does not have a cool-to-the-touch cover or any other noticeably cooling factors, like latex.
- Body weight: On the whole, the DreamCloud is better for light and average weight sleepers than for heavy sleepers. However, we think some heavy back sleepers could be comfortable on this bed.

I have purchased 5 different Dreamcloud mattresses over the years and never once disappointed. Always fast shipping. Fantastic pricing. But by far the best feature is the quality of the Dreamcloud mattress. Also very impressed with the free bedding (sheets) that came with my recent two purchases. Don’t change what you are doing/offering. It’s perfect in every way.

Delores E., DreamCloud customerOther Models from Cloverlane
If you’re interested in a bed from Cloverlane besides the Hybrid I covered in this review, you’ll be happy to know they also offer a Memory Foam version of this mattress.
Cloverlane Hybrid vs Cloverlane Memory Foam
The Cloverlane Memory Foam is very similar to the Cloverlane Hybrid. The main construction difference is the lack of coils — instead, the Memory Foam model has a firm foam base layer for support. The Memory Foam model also comes in three firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. We tested the Plush Soft model and felt it was more medium-firm, so we rated it as 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The Cloverlane Hybrid and Cloverlane Memory Foam models both cost the same amount of money.
- Sleeping position: Both models are fairly versatile for different sleeping positions, since they come in three firmness options. However, I will note that the Plush Soft model of the Cloverlane Memory Foam was too firm for side sleeping, in my opinion.
- Cooling: The Cloverlane Memory Foam tested very similarly to the Hybrid with our temperature gun — it increased in temperature by about 13.6 degrees.
- Body weight: Both of these mattresses should be fairly good choices for sleepers of all weight groups, but the Hybrid may be a better choice for heavy sleepers, since it has the coils for additional support.

Our Review Process
At Sleepopolis, our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time laying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.
