Cloverlane is a new mattress brand that promises a luxury feel at an affordable price. Currently, the brand offers two versions of their flagship mattress: a hybrid model and memory foam model — I’ll be covering the latter in this review. Cloverlane is the newest brand under the Resident umbrella (the makers of DreamCloud and Nectar), so I was intrigued to see what this new brand had to offer.
I personally tested the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress to assess its firmness and feel, as well as running it through a series of tests on performance factors like pressure relief, motion isolation, cooling, and more.

Cloverlane Memory Foam Mattress Overview
The Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress is a luxury mattress that comes in three firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. I tested the Plush Soft model for this review and felt it was more like a medium-firm mattress than a soft one, so I thought it was most comfortable for back and stomach sleeping. Whichever firmness level you choose, each Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress features a Euro top made with cooling fabric, gel-infused memory foam, a latex lumbar support, and a sturdy base foam. All that adds up to a 15-inch tall bed, which is significantly taller than average.
Cloverlane offers free white glove delivery with this mattress. It’s not a bed in a box, so it ships uncompressed and a delivery team will set it up for you in your room of choice. They’ll also remove your old mattress, if you wish. Because it isn’t a bed-in-a-box mattress, there is no worry about off-gassing smells or waiting for the mattress to fully inflate.

You’ll likely notice the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress scored a bit lower on cooling than some of the other categories. When we put the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress through our cooling test (which I’ll discuss in more detail later), it retained a fair amount of heat, which showed us it is only a decent cooling option. What Is the Cloverlane Memory Foam Mattress Made Of?
Let’s take a look under the hood of the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress. Knowing what a mattress is made of can give you a better understanding of how it feels and performs.
Cover – The Cloverlane has a Euro top made of a polyester/polyethylene blend and quilted with foam. This cover is also treated with antimicrobial finish.
Comfort Layer – Beneath the Euro top cover is a 2-inch layer of gel memory foam. This foam provides the cushioning in the upper part of the mattress, and the gel infusions are intended to counteract some of foam’s heat-trapping properties.
Zoned Lumbar Support Layer – Underneath the comfort layer lies a zoned section of latex. This half-inch thick latex layer is positioned across the middle of the bed to target the lower back, rather than spanning the entire length of the mattress. This is meant to provide additional back support and reduce back pain.
Transition Layer – Next is a transition layer of foam. This 2.5-inch foam layer is less slow-moving than the foam above it and has a quicker response to pressure. This serves as a transition between the plusher foam above and the sturdy base foam below.
Support Layer – The final layer of the bed is a 9-inch base foam support layer. This sturdy foam layer provides the main support for the mattress.
Cloverlane Memory Foam Mattress Firmness
Now let’s talk about the firmness and feel of this bed. Here at Sleepopolis, we rank firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. We use 6.5 as the standard for medium-firm, the most common mattress firmness.
To determine the firmness of a bed, we lay on the bed and change between sleeping positions, assessing how much give the bed has, or how resistant it is to pressure. We compare it to the hundreds of other mattresses we’ve tested and give it a numerical score on our scale.
After testing out the Plush Soft model of the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress, I gave it a 6.5 out of 10 firmness rating, meaning it feels more medium-firm than plush soft to me. Keep in mind that this bed does come in two other firmness options, Luxury Firm and Firm, which will likely feel progressively firmer than this model did.
For a bed marketed as being “plush soft,” I was surprised the Cloverlane had a more medium-firm feel. The Euro top and upper foam layer do provide some cushioning, but I didn’t find myself sinking into the material much for a truly soft feel — rather, I felt very “on top” of the mattress, with some light cushioning beneath me.

Sleeping Position and Body Weight
Let’s go over how sleepers of different weights might feel on the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress in each sleeping position.
We recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 250 pounds).
As a general rule, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average weight sleepers and tend to sink into the mattress more.
As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers tend to need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.
Here’s my take on how different sleepers will feel on the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress.
Is the Cloverlane Memory Foam a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – I think light back sleepers should find the Plush Soft model I tested quite comfortable, as it has a medium-firm feel that works well for back sleeping. They should find the bed provides good spinal support, while the Euro top still provides some comfort.
- Light Side Sleepers – The Cloverlane Memory Foam will likely be too firm for most light side sleepers. I tested the softest of the three firmness options and it still felt too firm for side sleeping, so I think light side sleepers will be better off with one of our best soft mattresses.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – Light stomach sleepers should be comfortable on the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress. I think the Plush Soft model could work, since it doesn’t offer deep sinkage and light sleepers don’t sink in much anyway. Or they could opt for one of the firmer mattress models to ensure their hips don’t sink into the bed.
Is the Cloverlane Memory Foam a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Plush Soft Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress is a great pick for average weight back sleepers. I think the medium-firm feel is ideal for this group, as they’ll get adequate spinal support but should still get some cushioning from the Euro top. I fall into this group and I found back sleeping on this bed quite comfortable. I think average weight back sleepers could also opt for one of the firmer models, if they prefer a higher firmness level.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – I think this bed is too firm for most average weight side sleepers. When testing the Plush Soft Cloverlane on my side, I felt a decent amount of pressure buildup on my shoulder, as the bed doesn’t contour much around the joints.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – Conversely, I think the Plush Soft Cloverlane is too soft for average weight stomach sleepers. I found my hips sinking into the material, which caused my lower back to bow. However, the Luxury Firm or Firm models could work for this group.
Is the Cloverlane Memory Foam a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I think heavy back sleepers could do well on the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress, but I would recommend going for the Luxury Firm or Firm model instead of the Plush Soft one that I tested. Heavy back sleepers may sink into the material more than I did, so a little extra firmness could help to maintain a neutral spine.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – Heavy side sleepers may like the Plush Soft Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress, as they are likely to sink into the material more than I did, which could allow for a little more pressure relief. This bed is foam all the way down, so there’s no risk of “bottoming out” on hard coils either.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – The Plush Soft Cloverlane is definitely too soft for most heavy stomach sleepers. While they could go for one of the firmer models, I’d recommend something with coils to ensure their hips get proper support.
Cloverlane Memory Foam Mattress Performance
In addition to assessing the firmness and how different sleep styles might feel on a mattress, we also like to put each mattress through a series of performance tests. By testing beds on factors like pressure relief, motion isolation, responsiveness, cooling, and edge support, we can further help you understand if a mattress will fit your needs and lifestyle beyond just how it feels.
Cloverlane Memory Foam Mattress Pain Relief Performance
Pressure relief is an important consideration for many different types of sleepers — particularly those with concerns about pressure points, like side sleepers or sleepers with chronic pain. We like to test how pressure-relieving a mattress is by using a heat-mapping pressure mat. We lay this mat on the bed, then have a tester lay on the mat in different sleeping positions. The mat uses thermal imaging to generate a color-coded pressure map, where blue and green indicate low pressure and yellow and red indicate high pressure.
Looking at my results for back sleeping, the Cloverlane Memory Foam offers excellent pressure relief for back sleepers. There is almost no pressure showing on my body while lying on my back. On my side, it’s a slightly different story. There is some noticeable pressure buildup, which shows that this bed isn’t the best at cushioning around key pressure points for side sleepers.
Motion Transfer
For those who share the bed with a partner or pet, motion transfer is a particularly important test. If a bed has high motion transfer, that means movement travels across the mattress, rather than being isolated at the source. High motion transfer can lead to your sleep being disturbed by a restless partner.
We come up with our motion transfer score using a few different tests. The first one is simple: we just lie down on the mattress with a colleague, roll around, and see how much of each other’s movement we feel. We also place a full wine glass on the mattress, and see how much the wine moves around with us. If the liquid has zero to little movement, then it’s a safe bet that the mattress has low motion transfer, which is what you want to see.
Finally, there’s our seismometer test. This involves dropping a 10 pound steel ball from heights of four inches, eight inches and 12 inches, then measuring the disturbance it causes: the bigger the lines on the graph, the bigger the disturbance and the higher the motion transfer.
The Cloverlane Memory Foam showed overall low motion transfer in our tests. We did see a small amount of movement in our seismograph and wine tests, as well as feeling a little motion when we had a tester toss and turn on the bed. But overall, these results were pretty good. You may feel some larger movements, but small actions like turning over to another sleeping position shouldn’t be a bother.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness is a measure of how quickly a mattress responds to pressure, which correlates to how easy or difficult it is to move around on the bed. If a bed is responsive, then it doesn’t take much effort to move. If it’s less responsive, you may feel like you’ve sunken into the bed and it’s a little more challenging to push against the material to move. Having a responsive bed can be beneficial for combination sleepers, people with mobility issues, and for having sex.
I tested how responsive the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress is by moving around on the surface and changing between sleeping positions to see how easy or difficult it was.
On the whole, I didn’t have much issue moving on the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress. Because the bed doesn’t offer much sinkage in the top layer, I never felt like I had sunken in and had to put much effort in to change between sleeping positions. The surface, while plush from the Euro top, felt fairly rigid. However, I will note that while this bed felt responsive, it didn’t feel very bouncy.
Cooling
Cooling is another important factor for many different sleepers, such as those who run warm, live in a hot climate, or share the bed (two bodies produce more heat than one!).
First, we look at the materials used in each mattress and assess how they might affect the cooling capabilities of the bed. The Cloverlane Memory Foam does have a few cooling materials in its construction, such as a cooling cover made with polypropylene and gel-infused foam. However, being made primarily of foam, I wouldn’t expect this mattress to have excellent cooling capabilities, particularly compared to a latex mattress or hybrid mattress.
We also test out each mattress with a device called a thermal gun, which uses color-coded imaging to measure how much and how quickly a mattress heats up when we lie down on it. If it heats up more than 15 degrees Fahrenheit, we consider it to have poor cooling capabilities. 10 to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, 5 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, and less than 5 degrees indicates excellent cooling.
After laying on the Cloverlane Memory Foam for five minutes, it increased in temperature by about 13.6 degrees, which would qualify as decent cooling. This was about what I expected, given the materials the bed is made with. I’d say it should be a solid choice for many people, but I wouldn’t highly recommend it to anyone particularly concerned with cooling.
Edge Support
Edge support refers to how well the perimeter of a mattress bears weight. If a mattress has good edge support, then you should feel as supported on the edge of the bed as you do in the center. If a mattress has poor edge support, the perimeter will likely collapse or sag beneath your weight.
I tested the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress’s edge support by first sitting on the edge of the bed. I felt a decent amount of sinkage along the edge when I was sitting, so that wasn’t too impressive. Then I moved to lay along the edge of the mattress and I felt much more supported. I’d say the edge support is fairly sturdy for sleeping along the edge, but less so for sitting on the edge of the bed to tie your shoes or for those who use the edge of the bed as a support when getting out of bed.
Cloverlane Memory Foam Mattress Performance For Couples
Is the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress good for couples? To decide, let’s look at four tests: motion transfer, responsiveness, cooling, and edge support. All four of these tests can play a role in how well a mattress works for a couple.
The Cloverlane Memory Foam scored well in three of these four tests — motion transfer, responsiveness, and edge support. This means couples shouldn’t be overly disturbed by each other’s movements, but the bed will still be responsive enough for sex. Additionally, the edge support is durable enough to allow couples to maximize the surface area of their mattress — especially important if they’re sharing a queen.
The Cloverlane Memory Foam didn’t do quite as well on cooling, but it is still a decent cooling mattress, so I think overall this bed should be a good choice for couples. Additionally, it is highly supportive and comes in three firmness options, so it should adequately support two bodies and couples can choose the firmness level that works best for them.

Who I Recommend the Cloverlane Memory Foam Mattress For
- Back sleepers should love the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress. The Plush Soft model I tested had an ideal medium-firmness, but back sleepers could opt for one of the other two firmness options for an even firmer feel, if they prefer.
- Couples will likely sleep well on the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress, as it scored fairly well in our couples-specific tests.
- Shoppers who want to customize their mattress should appreciate having three firmness options.
- Those who like a tall profile will likely appreciate this mattress’s high height — 15 inches.

Cloverlane Memory Foam vs Saatva Classic
The Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress that comes in three firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. In all three firmness levels, this luxury bed features a Euro top, zoned lumbar support, and a coil-on-coil construction of individually wrapped coils on top of interlocking coils. We tested the Luxury Firm Saatva Classic and rated it as a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, meaning it is just firmer than average.
- Price: The Saatva mattress is slightly less expensive than the Cloverlane Memory Foam. They’re in the same general price range, but the Saatva is cheaper by around $200 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: Both of these mattresses are pretty versatile for different sleeping positions, since they come in three firmness levels. The Saatva may be a better pick for side sleepers, as we had the chance to test their Plush Soft, and it does feel a little softer than the Cloverlane Memory Foam.
- Cooling: While neither of these beds are standout cooling options, the Saatva is likely a better option, as it has more room for airflow in its construction. With large sections of coils, hot air can more easily escape the Saatva. In our cooling test, the Saatva increased in temperature by about 11.9 degrees though, so it’s not far off from the Cloverlane mattress.
- Body weight: The Saatva is a better option for heavy sleepers, since it uses coils. We generally recommend heavy sleepers choose a mattress with coils to ensure they receive proper support.

The TEMPUR-Cloud is a bed-in-a-box mattress from memory foam giant Tempur-Pedic. This bed offers a classic memory foam feel, with deep sinkage and contouring. But even though it does provide excellent pressure relief, this bed still has a fairly firm feel. We rated it as a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The TEMPUR-Cloud is about $200 cheaper than the Cloverlane for a queen size, but they are in the same general price range.
- Sleeping position: We recommend the TEMPUR-Cloud for side and back sleepers primarily — it offers too much sinkage for stomach sleepers.
- Cooling: The TEMPUR-Cloud is not a great choice for hot sleepers. It doesn’t have any cooling features and the foam is likely to trap a lot of heat.
- Body weight: The TEMPUR-Cloud isn’t a good pick for heavy sleepers, as it doesn’t offer much support for a heavier body weight. It’s not a very tall mattress either, so heavy sleepers may sink in too deeply and “bottom out” on their bed frame.

The Helix Midnight is a hybrid mattress from Helix’s standard line of mattresses. It’s made with individually wrapped coils, memory foam, and polyfoam. We rated it as a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, meaning it is just softer than average.
- Price: The Helix Midnight is considerably less expensive than the Cloverlane. It’s priced around $1,400 for a queen size mattress at full retail price.
- Sleeping position: Because of its slightly soft feel, we recommend the Helix Midnight to back and side sleepers.
- Cooling: The Helix Midnight is a decent cooling option, as it is a hybrid with room for airflow. However, it doesn’t have any special cooling features.
- Body weight: For heavy sleepers, the Helix Midnight is a decent option. However, we’d recommend the Helix Midnight Luxe as a better option for this group, as it offers a little extra support.

Cloverlane Memory Foam vs Cloverlane Hybrid
The Cloverlane Hybrid is very similar to the Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress, but instead of a base foam support layer, it has a section of individually wrapped coils. Otherwise, they are essentially the same. Both beds come in three different firmness levels. We tested the Firm model of the Cloverlane Hybrid and rated its firmness as 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The Cloverlane Memory Foam and Cloverlane Hybrid are the exact same price.
- Sleeping position: Since both of these beds come in multiple firmness options, they are both fairly versatile options for different sleeping positions. The Firm model of the Cloverlane Hybrid that I tested worked well for back and stomach sleeping.
- Cooling: Neither of these beds are spectacular cooling choices, but also aren’t bad. They tested very similarly in the temperature gun test — both retained about 13 degrees of heat after a tester laid on them. However, it’s worth noting that the Hybrid has coils, which could allow for more airflow.
- Body weight: The Cloverlane Hybrid is probably a better choice for heavy sleepers, as the coils will provide additional support.
