We recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 250 pounds).
As a general rule, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average weight sleepers and tend to sink into the mattress more.
As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers tend to need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.
Is the Premier Rest a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – This bed is a great fit for these sleepers. They’ll get plenty of pressure relief at the lower back, and plenty of lift and support.
- Light Side Sleepers – These sleepers should really like this bed. Its pillow top layer will do a great job cushioning sensitive joints.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – These sleepers could be comfortable on this mattress, especially if they only spend part of the night on their stomach. I think the Premier Rest is just supportive enough to keep their hips and shoulders aligned.
Is the Premier Rest a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130 to 250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Premier Rest is a great fit for these folks. It should offer them the right balance of pressure relief and support.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – I’d also recommend this bed to average weight side sleepers. I think the pillow top layer will do a nice job of relieving pressure around the hips and shoulders.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – The Premier Rest is likely a little too soft for these sleepers. I’d recommend they opt for a firm mattress that will help keep their hips lifted up in line with their shoulders.
Is the Premier Rest a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – This mattress should work well for these sleepers. It’s thick and supportive, so it should feel comfortable. The Rest might feel a little softer to heavier people than other sleepers, but I don’t think it will feel overly soft.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – These sleepers might also like this bed. It should offer a nice amount of cushioning and sinkage, but you shouldn’t sink all the way onto its coil layer, which can be an issue for heavy side sleepers on thinner beds.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – These folks will need a firmer mattress to keep their hips and shoulders properly aligned. I’d recommend one of our best mattresses for heavy people instead.

A big part of what we do here at Sleepopolis is run a series of tests on each mattress we review. This helps our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches get an objective view of what it would be like to sleep on them. These tests also allow us to make even more specific recommendations in addition to sleeping position and body type. Below, see how the DreamCloud Premier Rest performs in areas such as pain relief, motion transfer, cooling, and more.
DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Pain Relief Performance
Pain relief is an important consideration for a lot of sleepers, and that’s why our team at Sleepopolis puts so much emphasis on measuring a bed’s pressure relief, or how it feels against the body’s various pressure points while you sleep. Pressure relief is an effective way to determine how well a mattress relieves pain, and I like to measure a mattress’s pain relief potential using a pressure map test.
For testing pressure relief, I use a special mat to measure the force a body exerts on a mattress in a few different sleeping positions. The map records the pressure points the mattress created during testing, then shows the results in a graphic created by thermal imaging. The graphic highlights areas of low pressure in blue to green and areas of high pressure in yellow to red. We cover three different areas: back pain, shoulder pain, and hip pain.
Before looking at the results below, you’ll definitely want to take your sleeping position into account. For example, we don’t recommend firmer beds to side sleepers, who require adequate pressure relief to take tension off the hip and shoulder. Stomach sleepers, on the other hand, need a firmer bed to lift the body into a neutral alignment.
As shown on the graphic above, the blue in the lower back area shows us this should be a good fit for sleepers with back pain, especially if it’s caused by tension around the lower back. However, if you find a firm mattress is better for relieving your pain, I’d recommend the firmer original DreamCloud mattress instead. For side sleepers and most folks with hip and shoulder pain, we recommend the DreamCloud Premier Rest because of all the green and blue (low pressure) at the hip and shoulder.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is the movement detectable from one side of the bed on the other. Couples normally prefer a mattress with low motion transfer, because you’re less likely to be bothered by a partner’s tossing and turning on a bed that absorbs motion well.
To test motion transfer, we have three different experiments. The simplest involves us rolling around on the mattress with a colleague, and feeling how much of each other’s movements we notice. The second is the wine glass test, wherein we place a full wine glass on the mattress and see how much the wine moves around with us.
Lastly, there’s our seismometer test. For this one, we drop a steel ball onto the mattress and measured the disturbance it caused with a seismometer. Each drop is meant to symbolize a different movement you’re likely to experience in bed, from tossing and turning (four inches) to getting out of bed (eight inches) all the way to full-on jumping (12 inches).
These are fairly high motion transfer results. If you or your partner are especially light sleepers, there’s a good chance you may feel each other tossing and turning.
Responsiveness
We test each mattress’s responsiveness by pressing down on its top layer, removing our hand, and seeing how quickly the surface returns to its original shape. Memory foam usually has a low response to pressure, while hybrid mattresses with coils (such as the Premier Rest) tend to have a high response to pressure. Responsive mattresses are usually good for sex since they make it easy to change positions and move around. These traits also make them good for combination sleepers who switch sleeping positions at night.
While the DreamCloud isn’t super bouncy, it doesn’t feature an extreme amount of sinkage. This means it should be easy to move around and change positions on this bed, making it a good option for sex and combination sleeping.
Cooling
Several factors contribute to a mattress’s cooling ability. First and foremost, we consider its overall construction. Since the Premier Rest has a layer of individually pocketed coils, there’s plenty of room for air to flow through the mattress and keep it cool. Further temperature regulation comes from the gel infusion in the foam.
The Premier Rest sleeps fairly cool. Its coil layer encourages breathability, while its pillow top has a cozier feel. And if you want an extra cooling feel, try adding some of our best cooling sheets.
Edge Support
Edge support is a measure of whether or not you can lie all the way on the side of your mattress and still feel supported. This should be an appealing feature for couples who like to spread out, heavier people who want to avoid premature sagging, or anyone who loves to use the entire surface of their bed.
To test this, I sit on the side of the bed and move around to feel how much the edge of the mattress is collapsing underneath me. Although the Premier Rest’s edges are reinforced with firmer steel coils, I felt the foams compressing and squishing quite a bit. This indicates that the bed only has average edge support.
DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Performance for Couples
I think the Premier Rest is just okay for couples, mainly due to how it performed in the areas of motion transfer and edge support. However, if you and your partner sleep deeply and don’t feel a need to really spread out across the mattress, then the Premier Rest’s cooling abilities and responsive nature could be more than sufficient for you.

The DreamCloud Premier Rest is a solid investment for those looking to level up their sleep setup for years to come. This mattress offers excellent support thanks to its individually wrapped innerspring coils and a solid polyfoam base layer. Its supportive foundation is a good sign of durability, as supportive mattresses are less prone to sagging and losing shape with regular use.

However, the DreamCloud Premier Rest isn’t without fault. During testing, I noticed some potential for sinkage around the perimeter of the bed. This sinkage could lead to slight sagging around the edge of the mattress, especially with frequent sitting or lying near that area of the bed. While I don’t foresee this being a significant issue in the long run for most sleepers, it may result in a softer feel around the edges compared to the center of the mattress.
Based on my hands-on experience with this bed, I predict that the DreamCloud Premier Rest will maintain its supportive feel and shape with minimal wear after 30 days of use. After three years, it should still provide reliable support, although you might start to see some visible signs of wear around the edges.
By the ten-year mark, I anticipate that the mattress will likely maintain much of its original shape, feel, and support while showing more wear and tear—especially around the edges. I think couples and heavier sleepers who tend to gravitate toward the edge of the bed will notice more signs of use than other sleepers. However, I still think this bed will hold up well against its cheaper competitors.

Who I don’t recommend the DreamCloud Premier Rest mattress for
- If you’re looking for a budget or guest room mattress, I think the Premier Rest could be too expensive for your needs. I’d recommend one of our best mattresses under $1,000 instead.
- The Premier Rest does have a strong off-gassing scent. This is nothing to be concerned about (the DreamCloud isn’t made with harmful chemicals or heavy metals), but if airing your new bed out for a few days is a concern, I’d recommend one of our best latex mattresses instead. They often have less of a smell than other bed-in-a-box options. You could also consider a non-box mattress.
