Is the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze a Good Mattress for You?
To start off, we put each of our mattresses through something called a “Rest Test,” where we lie down on the bed for an uninterrupted 15-minute power nap. This gives us a big-picture assessment of how it performs before we get into some of our more specific tests. Here’s how my colleague Amelia felt napping on the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze mattress:
“The TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze has a really cozy feel. Lying on the bed, I definitely experienced a lot of contouring from the foam but I didn’t sink all the way in. I felt a good amount of support still, even though it was quite cushy.”
Along with the Rest Test, I want to offer some quick recommendations for the LuxeBreeze before we fully dive into this review since different factors, such as your body type and sleeping position, will determine whether or not a mattress will work for you.
Who I recommend the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze mattress for
- Despite having thick layers of high-quality foam, I personally found the LuxeBreeze very cooling, making it a good choice for hot sleepers.
- It has cushy, cooling foam layers that have great motion isolation capabilities, so I would also recommend this for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by each other’s movements at night.
- I really like the LuxeBreeze for side sleepers since its soft foam comfort layers offer excellent cushioning and contouring for pressure points on the shoulders and hips.
Who I don’t recommend the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze mattress for
- The LuxeBreeze is part of Tempur-Pedic’s luxury mattress line, so budget shoppers should expect a luxury price tag and may want to steer clear. Click here for some more budget-friendly options.
- Out of all the sleeping positions I tested, sleeping on the stomach felt the least comfortable since my hips sank a bit, so stomach sleepers, take note.
- If you prefer the springy feel of a traditional innerspring bed, you might not like the sinking feel of memory foam. Even though the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze has coils, it definitely embodies a foam vibe.
How Firm is the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze Mattress?
Let’s talk firmness! Mattress firmness is one of the biggest determining factors for mattress comfort. However, it’s a highly subjective matter as the firmness changes depending on your body type and sleeping position. What may feel firm for you may feel soft for others, or vice versa.
To come up with an accurate firmness rating, I tested the mattress alongside some of the rest of the Sleepopolis team and came up with an aggregate score.
We rate mattresses on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. As mentioned, the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze has three firmness options: Soft foam, Medium hybrid, and Firm foam. After testing, we gave the Medium hybrid mattress model a firmness rating of 6.5 out of 10, which is the industry standard for medium-firm.
Lying down on this mattress felt a little firm at first, but then I was welcomed by the familiar slow-moving sink of the memory foam that closely contours to the body and feels softer the longer you lay on it. Overall, the mattress has a comfy and supportive feel with just the right amount of sink, which I’m sure a lot of side sleepers and memory foam lovers would appreciate.

Aside from firmness, there are different factors to consider regarding mattress performance. In this section, I’ll be talking about how well the LuxeBreeze performed in tests for different sleeping positions, pain relief, motion transfer, and couple accommodation.
Testing the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze Mattress in Different Sleeping Positions
Depending on your body weight and preferred sleeping position, you’ll need different amounts of support from a mattress. See below how the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze performs for different sleeper types and weight classes.
Is the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – I think back sleepers will sleep comfy thanks to the blend of soft foam layers and supportive double-stacked innersprings.
- Light Side Sleepers – I also recommend this mattress for side sleepers since I think they’ll appreciate the soft, contouring feel and pressure relief of the LuxeBreeze’s foam comfort system.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – I think the LuxeBreeze can work for some lightweight stomach sleepers, but others may feel like they sink in too much. I think the Firm version would be a better fit.
Is the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130 to 250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – This mattress, especially the Medium hybrid model, is a fantastic choice since it can provide more than enough support and comfort for average weight back sleepers.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – The LuxeBreeze hits a homerun for average weight side sleepers because of how well it relieves pressure points on the hips and shoulders while providing a cushy yet supportive feel.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – Unfortunately, I feel like this mattress will feel too soft for most stomach sleepers over time and cause too much sinkage beneath the hips.
Is the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I feel like it could work well for some of these back sleepers, but some may feel like it’s too soft for comfort.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – Heavier side sleepers will appreciate how well the LuxeBreeze’s innerspring system keeps them up and supported enough to prevent excess sinkage.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – I think heavy stomach sleepers should avoid this mattress since it’ll likely be too soft and allow for excess sinkage. I recommend firmer mattresses, like the ones in our list of best mattresses for heavy sleepers.
TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze Mattress Pain Relief Performance
Another important aspect to look for in a mattress is pain relief, especially if you’re experiencing body pains and aches. Pain and pressure go hand in hand, so to get an accurate sense of the LuxeBreeze’s pain relief performance, we tested how well it relieves pressure, specifically in common pressure points on the back, shoulders, and hips.
To do this, we placed a pressure map on top of the mattress while I laid down on top of it and recorded how much pressure buildup there was. Blue and green areas mean low pressure, while orange and red areas indicate high pressure.
Back Pain – Overall, good results for back and side sleepers with back pain. Not so much for stomach sleepers, though. Anyway, we noticed there was some very minimal pressure forming around the lower back, but I didn’t feel uncomfortable. On my side, we recorded a little yellow around the hips, but I don’t think it’s anything concerning. I think the Soft model would’ve provided extra pressure relief, though, and would recommend it for side sleepers with sensitive joints.
Shoulder Pain – Pressure maps showed great results for back sleepers with shoulder pain and good results for side sleepers. There’s little to no pressure buildup on the shoulders when lying down on my back, as evidenced by the blue. There’s a tiny bit of green and yellow when I lay on my side, but I still felt comfortable even after some time.
Hip Pain – I think the LuxeBreeze is good for back and side sleepers with hip pain. All green for back sleepers’ hips. There’s a bit of yellow for side sleepers, so if you prefer something more relieving, I suggest getting the Soft model.
TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze Mattress Performance for Couples
If you’re sharing a mattress with a partner, you also need to consider other factors like motion isolation, cooling, edge support, and responsiveness. Read on to see if the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze mattress is a good fit for couples.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is the movement you may feel when your partner moves on their side of the bed. Getting a mattress with low motion transfer prevents you or your partner from abruptly waking up when you decide to make a middle-of-the-night trip to the toilet, especially if you’re both light sleepers.
To test its motion transfer, we used a steel ball and a seismograph. We dropped the steel ball at different heights to simulate different scenarios: tossing and turning (four inches), getting out of bed (eight inches), and jumping (12 inches). Then, we measured the amount of disturbance generated. The bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
Results say that the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze performed really well on this test. Based on this, I can say that this mattress is a great match for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by each other’s movements.
Sex
A mattress that’s great for sex should have a good mix of bounciness and responsiveness. As we mentioned earlier in the review, the LuxeBreeze has a good amount of sinkage, so it’s not that bouncy and responsive. That said, while it’s not great, I still think it’s an OK mattress for sex.
Cooling
A mattress accommodating two people tends to overheat quickly, so cooling should be factored in when shopping. Despite having thick foam layers, the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze stays cool all night, thanks to a ton of built-in cooling materials, like its cool-to-the-touch cover, patented heat-dissipating layers, and ventilated double-stacked innerspring coils. It all creates a nice cooling effect so you shouldn’t wake up due to being too hot.
Edge Support
Edge support is how sturdy the perimeter of a mattress is when you’re sitting down or lying near the edges. Sharing a bed with someone means your sleeping space is limited, so if you want to maximize the surface of your mattress, look for one with great edge support.
The mattress edges sank down a bit while I was lying down near the sides. It sank even more when I sat near the edges. However, I still felt supported and didn’t feel like I was falling off. But since the sinkage was noticeable, I’d rate the LuxeBreeze’s edge support as average.

My Final Thoughts about the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze Mattress
Before I wrap up this mattress review, let’s talk about the most important question: Is the LuxeBreeze mattress the perfect mattress for you? Unfortunately, only you can answer that. But to help you out, let me share my personal pros and cons for this mattress.
My favorite things about the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze mattress
First off, as a hot sleeper myself, I really love how cooling the LuxeBreeze is. I also like how luxuriously soft and cushy the foam layers are. I feel like there’s just the right amount of sinkage and support. I also appreciate how there are multiple firmness options available. Overall, I think this mattress is a great fit for hot sleepers and couples, as well as most back and side sleepers.
My TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze mattress complaints
If you prefer a bouncy mattress that feels like you’re sleeping “on top” of it, I don’t think you’ll like the LuxeBreeze. Memory foam mattresses can be tricky for most stomach sleepers, and the LuxeBreeze brings the same concerns. Even though we tested the model with coils, it still offers the slow-sinking feel of memory foam that could cause unhealthy sleep posture while stomach sleeping. I also think the price tag’s quite pricey, so I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to budget shoppers.
