Do you listen to sleep sounds at night to help you fall asleep quicker? Personally, I’m a big fan of turning to frequencies like green noise or brown noise when I can’t fall asleep on my own. Sounds like thunderstorms, ambient forest noise, and rolling waves are also popular sounds that people turn to when they can’t quite fall asleep at night. However, have you ever tried falling asleep to the sound of… frying chicken?

In case you’ve missed it, Hatch, the company behind the internet-famous Restore 2 alarm clocks, is teaming up with fast-food fried chicken joint KFC to lull people to sleep with the sounds of chicken frying. No, this is not a joke or prank; as of October 22nd, you can actually tune into the “Kentucky Fried Chicken Rain Sounds” channel on Restore 2 alarms through Hatch+. (1)

In case you’re not familiar, Hatch+ is Hatch’s subscription service that allows users access to meditations, sounds, stories and more that are all designed to help you fall asleep. However, the membership is not required for the functionality of your Restore alarm clocks. (2)

Read on if you’re curious to learn more about Hatch’s and KFC’s fried chicken sleep sound partnership.

What Is Included In Hatch’s Partnership With KFC?

The bulk of the partnership between Hatch and KFC boils down to the “Kentucky Fried Chicken Rain” channel that is available on Restore 2 alarm clocks with a Hatch+ membership. However, even if you don’t have a Restore 2 alarm clock or a Hatch+ membership, you can still get in on the fried chicken sleep sound magic. You will be able to access the “Kentucky Fried Chicken Rain” sound on Hatch For Sleep’s and KFC’s respective YouTube channels. The sound will also be available on the Hatch for Sleep Spotify page. (1)

Hatch told Sleepopolis that the partnership will be available until December 2, meaning that users have just over a month to take advantage of the collaboration. (3)

Beyond the new sleep-focused content, the partnership also includes “humorous BTS brand and social content from Hatch’s visit and recording session at the KFC test kitchen, along with co-branded products, including a Hatch x KFC Sleep Shirt.” The Hatch X KFC Sleep Shirt will be available for purchase on KFC’s website, and KFC rewards loyalty members will be able to purchase a Restore 2 alarm at a special discount. How Did Hatch and KFC Come Up With The “Kentucky Fried Chicken Rain” Channel?

According to the companies’ joint press release the inspiration for the sleep-focused fried chicken content came “straight from Louisville, KY, where Hatch visited KFC’s headquarters and test kitchen to learn more about and capture the real sound of fried chicken. Hatch employees worked alongside KFC’s food innovation team to record the soothing sounds of frying KFC’s new Original Recipe Tenders.” (1)

Eric Palotta, CMO at Hatch, had this to say about the partnership: “At Hatch, we take pride in producing the most effective audio for sleep. When we kept seeing social media posts about the similarity between frying chicken and rain, we decided to make the absolute best version of that audio.”

Pallotta went on to add, “And who better than the OG fried chicken experts themselves, KFC, to do it with! We’re so excited to see our customers’ reactions to this fun, quirky content and can help them fall asleep to fried chicken right before bed without ever taking a bite.” (1)

Additionally, Hatch shared with Sleepopolis that “We wanted to have fun and to create a sense of surprise through an unexpected, but somehow perfectly right, partner. Our social team is extremely online and when we started seeing this “rumor” bubble up, as the experts in sleep audio, we knew we had to weigh in. The result is something fun, unexpected and unique, and when it comes right down to it, frying chicken really does sound like rain.” (3)

What Other Sounds Are Helpful For Falling Asleep?

Sleepopolis’s 2023 Sounds of Sleep survey found that white noise was often very helpful for getting people to fall asleep and stay asleep, and that pink and brown noise were also super helpful when it came to sleep.

At the end of the day, as long as the sound you’re listening to doesn’t disturb others around you or actively keep you from sleeping, then there’s nothing wrong with using sleep sounds to get to bed.
