I now want to discuss the firmness and feel of the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to finding a mattress that best suits their body and sleep needs. I prefer a firmer mattress to help with my chronic back pain, but you may need a mattress that offers more pressure-relief around sensitive joints or you may prefer a bed that feels like it is cradling you. It all comes down to personal preference at the end of the day.
At Sleepopolis, we rank mattress firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is the plushest and 10 is the firmest. We use 6.5 as the industry standard rating for medium-firm, which is the most common mattress firmness. I want readers to keep in mind that firmness is a pretty subjective measurement and various factors including body type, weight, and preferred sleeping position may play a factor in how firm a mattress feels to you individually.
To determine the firmness level, I lie on the mattress in different sleeping positions. After testing out the Novaform mattress, I decided to rank it as 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, meaning it is a tad softer than the medium-firm average ranking for a bed. This bed is incredibly plush and soft to the touch. This bed does a great job of hugging your body and offering fantastic pressure relief around joints.
When I first laid on the bed, the first thing I noticed was how cushiony and cool-to-the-touch the top layer is. My hips did sink in just a tad, however, this bed did a great job of supporting my back and lumbar spine, which is ideal for sleepers with back pain like myself. I was pleasantly surprised because I usually prefer a firmer mattress that offers lumbar support. However, the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress did an excellent job of keeping my body lifted while offering pressure relief around my lower lumbar area at the same time, which is a huge plus for me.

With the firmness and feel of this mattress in mind, let’s talk about how sleepers of different weights may feel on the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress in each sleeping position.
“We recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type and their sleeping preference of choice. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 250 pounds).
As a general rule, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average weight sleepers and tend to sink into the mattress more.
As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers tend to need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.”
Here’s my thoughts on how each group of people will feel on the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress.
Is the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – I think the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress could be a great pick for light back sleepers. Lightweight sleepers are going to feel like a bed may be more firm than compared to average-to-heavier sleepers, so this bed should probably feel medium-firm to these sleepers. I think these sleepers will feel well-supported for spinal alignment during sleep, but should still get optimal pressure relief in the lumbar area from the foam.
- Light Side Sleepers – The Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced gel Memory Foam should work for most strict side sleepers as it’s incredibly plush and does a great job at contouring around the hips and shoulders.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – This mattress should work well for light stomach sleepers. The bed’s firmness should help them feel supported and keep their hips lifted up, so they’re not as likely to sink into the foam.
Is the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress is a great option for average weight back sleepers. The bed offers plenty of support to the body to aid with spinal alignment, while still feeling soft at the same time. As a back sleeper who falls into this category, I felt incredibly comfortable on this mattress. My body felt supported and didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. It also provides good pressure relief around the lower lumbar area, perfect for these sleepers with back pain.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers –This bed offers nice cushioning around the shoulders and hips, while offering a good amount of pressure relief at the same time making it perfect for average weight side sleepers.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – I think that most average weight stomach sleepers would enjoy the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress. Even though this bed is super soft and plush, I felt lifted and supported the entire time and I didn’t feel like my body was sinking into the bed. My hips sank in just a tad but my spine remained in a neutral alignment. I felt like this bed offered a good blend of comfort and support.
Is the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I think the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam bed may not be supportive enough for people who weigh over 250 pounds since it is an all-foam bed. Even though this bed is designed with a study base foam layer, heavyweight sleepers may sink into the mattress.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – I think that the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress could be a great match for heavy side sleepers, as they will get that needed cushion, cradling and pressure relief around their shoulders and hips.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – Similar to the heavy back sleepers, I think this mattress may not do a good job at keeping these sleeper’s bodies lifted and supported since it is an all-foam bed.
Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam Mattress Performance
Not only is the look and feel of a mattress incredibly important, but you also need to consider other factors when deciding whether or not a mattress may work for you. Here are a few other factors to consider: Do you sleep with a partner, pet, or kids? Are you a hot sleeper? Do you have mobility issues? These are just a few things to consider when determining whether a mattress could be a good fit for you.
We run tests on performance factors like pressure relief, motion isolation, cooling, and edge support. Below, I’ll go over the results from my tests on the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress to showcase how well this bed performs and I suggest you consider these factors when shopping for a new mattress.
Motion Transfer
If you share the bed with a significant other or love to cuddle with your pet, you need a mattress that isolates motion at the source. Motion transfer refers to the amount of movement that travels through and on top of the mattress when it’s touched or disturbed. This is important so couples aren’t woken up in the middle of the night due to their partner’s (or pet’s) every toss and turn.
We come up with our motion transfer score using a few different tests.
Water Test
We also place a full water glass on the mattress, and see how much the water moves around with us. If the liquid has zero to little movement, then it’s a safe bet that the mattress has low motion transfer, which is what you want to see. After placing the water on one side of the bed, I moved to the other side of the bed and tested getting in and out of the mattress. There was a fair amount of movement in the glass when I got in the bed and moved around on the mattress.
The water did spill twice but that was simply because the glass had a hard time balancing on the crevettes indented in the bed’s cover. Even though there was a good amount of movement in the glass when switching positions, the water didn’t move much when I was switching between positions. This bed does a decent job of isolating motion for an all-foam bed.
Seismometer Test
Finally, there’s our seismometer test. This involves dropping a 10 pound steel ball from heights of four inches, eight inches and 12 inches, then measuring the disturbance it causes: the bigger the lines on the graph, the bigger the disturbance and the higher the motion transfer. As you’ll see in the graphic below, each height is meant to mimic a different movement you might feel in bed.
Overall, these are decent motion-transfer results, especially for an all-foam mattress. There are noticeable motion transfers at the source but the bed does a good job at halting the motion so that it doesn’t travel along far on the bed. This bed may not be ideal for couples with restless partners, however, you should really only feel movement when your partner is getting in and out of the bed.
After all of my tests, I ended up giving the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress 4 out of 5 for motion isolation.
Responsiveness
A bed’s responsiveness reflects how easy it is to move around on the surface of your mattress. You can test for this at your home by pressing down on the top layer of your bed, removing your hand, and seeing how quickly the surface returns to its original shape.
Responsive mattresses are usually good for sex since they make it easy to change positions and move around. These traits also make them good for combination sleepers who switch sleeping positions at night.
Thanks to their slow-moving foams, memory and all-foam beds usually have a low response to pressure. I tested the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam’s responsiveness by moving around on the mattress and changing between different sleeping positions. The mattress is not super bouncy, which isn’t unique for an all-foam bed. However, I did find it rather easy to change sleeping positions and to move freely on top of this mattress thanks to this bed’s cooling cover. I do want you to keep in mind that it may take more of an effort to switch positions once you’ve sunk into the mattress over time, however, the cooling cover feels “slippery” which makes it easier to feel more “on top” of the mattress.
I gave this bed a decent score for responsiveness so this bed could be a good pick for combination sleepers, couples, as well as a good bed for sex!
Cooling
Many people sweat in their sleep — it’s actually quite common. If you consider yourself a hot sleeper, then there are several factors you should consider when looking at whether a mattress will trap body heat. First and foremost, we look at the mattress’ construction.
Since the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress is made with triple action cooling, including Phase Change Gel infused in the memory foam, a cooling cover, and EVENcor GelMAX memory foam, you can tell the brand really considered hot sleepers when designing this mattress. This bed was specifically created for hot sleepers as it does a fantastic job at dissipating trapped heat and regulating body temperature.
Our team also uses a device called a thermal gun, which uses color-coded imaging to measure how much body heat the mattress absorbs, when deciding whether or not a mattress is good for cooling. If it heats up more than 15 degrees Fahrenheit, we consider it to have poor cooling capabilities. Ten to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, 5 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, and less than 5 degrees indicates excellent cooling.
After five minutes of lying on the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam bed, it increased a little over 6 degrees, which indicates pretty great temperature regulation. That said, I feel the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam is a great option for most hot sleepers. However, I don’t want you to forget that several outside factors can affect how warm you sleep, including the temperature of your bedroom, how close your bed is to an air vent or window, and your body’s own temperature, which can vary from person to person.
Edge Support
Edge support refers to how well the perimeter of the bed can support weight. If you’ve ever sat on the edge of your bed and the bed instantly sunk underneath you, then that is an example of a bed with poor edge support. Not only is that not comfortable, but it’s not ideal for people with mobility issues who need that extra support getting in and out of the bed. This is also useful for couples or families who like to maximize the surface area of their bed.
When sitting on the side of the mattress, I did feel like I may slip off but that is only because the cover feels slippery due to the Phase Change material. However, you shouldn’t have this issue when you put sheets on the bed. I do want to mention, however, that there was a fair amount of sinkage when sitting on the edge of the bed. When laying on the edge, however, I was more comfortable here and there was barely any sinkage.
I personally like to test the corner of the mattress as well during this test because I know many people use the corner to get in and out of the bed or even rest on it when tying their shoes. There was a lot of sinkage when sitting on the corner, and I did feel like I may slip off a time or two. With that being said — this bed may not be the best choice for people with mobility issues who use the corner of the mattress for additional support getting in and out of the mattress.
I even measured the sinkage with a yardstick and the bed sank nearly three inches which isn’t surprising for an all-foam bed and their slow-moving foams. Overall, this bed offers decent edge support and I think it could be a solid pick for couples or families wishing to use the entire surface area of their mattress.

After performing all my tests on the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam, I was pleasantly impressed by this mattress and think it could be a great option for many types of sleepers. Even though my findings are subjective, these are my recommendations of who should and shouldn’t buy the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress.
Who I Recommend the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam Mattress For
- You can tell the brand really took cooling seriously when designing this mattress so I think it’s a perfect option for hot sleepers. Just like its name suggests, this bed’s triple-action cooling construction such as the Phase Change Gel and EVENcor GelMAX memory foam, does an absolutely incredible job at absorbing body heat and keeping the sleeper cool so I think it’s perfect for these sleepers.
- If you love the feeling of a traditional memory foam bed and like feeling like your mattress is hugging your body, then you will really enjoy this mattress.
- This bed offers great pressure relief around the back and joints — perfect for back and side sleepers.
- Since it is easy to switch positions on this mattress, this bed can be a solid pick for combination sleepers.
- Even though this bed is soft, it is still supportive enough to keep the body lifted and spine aligned so this mattress is also an excellent choice for most light-to-average weight sleepers.
- Finally, this bed is great for shoppers ballin’ on a budget as this bed is a steal of a deal and feels incredibly luxurious compared to other similar beds on the market. - This bed may be too soft and plush for most back and stomach heavyweight sleepers, who are sleepers weighing over 250 pounds.
- Since the corner of the bed doesn’t offer the strongest edge support, this bed may not be the best choice for people with mobility issues who need that extra support getting in and out of the bed.
- If you really want to test this mattress out for yourself, they may have it at your local Costco. I suggest calling ahead to see if your local store has it in stock. However, it is available online but I do know some people prefer to test out a mattress for themselves before buying, which I totally understand. The original Nectar mattress is the company’s flagship model, as well as its most popular and affordable bed. It’s pressure-relieving, yet supportive, with a thick layer of gel memory foam that has a doughy feel and allows you to sink into its surface. Not only is the Nectar an all-foam bed just like the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress, but they both offer that traditional memory foam feel.
Similar to the Novaform, the Nectar also offers specific cooling properties and is made with a cooling gel-infused foam comfort layer, as well as high-density foam for support. The Nectar and the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress both offer a softer than average feel — we rated the Nectar a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, the same rating we gave the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam mattress.
- Price: The Nectar is more expensive than the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam, by about $500 for a queen size. The Nectar is available in a wider variety of sizes than the Novaform, including twin, twin XL, and full sizes.
- Sleeping position: The Nectar, with its plush, soft construction, is well-suited for back and side sleepers as they’ll get nice sinkage as this bed conforms to their bodies, while not feeling trapped in the mattress. This bed balances comfort with plenty of pressure relief for back sleepers.
- Cooling: Even though the Nectar is a foam mattress, it utilizes a cooling gel-infused layer of comfort foam towards the top of the bed. When considering these results and the all-foam construction, I think this is one of the best cooling mattresses on the market — at least for memory foam beds.

The Emma Original mattress is an all-foam bed-in-a-box mattress designed in Germany. It’s an all-foam construction that provides great support and comfort. Emma uses Point Elastic Airgocell foam, HALO memory foam, and HRX (High Resiliency Extra) Supreme Foam throughout its build. These dense foams create a firm mattress, which is actually uncommon for this kind of bed.
While the Emma isn’t super pressure-relieving, it does still contain a level of body contouring and comfort from its memory foam support layer. The Emma is a tad firmer than the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory foam mattress— we rated it as a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, firmer than the medium-firm average.
- Price: The Emma is more expensive than the Novaform, by about over $500 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: Because of how firm this bed is, the Emma is a good fit for back, stomach, and combination sleepers who like more of an “on top” feel to their mattress. It is also a solid pick for combination sleepers since it is easy to move around on the mattress.
- Cooling: Emma is designed with a breathable cover and Airgocell poly foam with an open-cell structure in its comfort layer to promote airflow and regulate body temperature.
- Body weight: Sleepers who weigh over 250 pounds will probably not feel supported or comfortable enough on the Emma mattress.

The original DreamCloud mattress is the company’s flagship bed that feels incredibly luxurious. The DreamCloud Memory Foam bed is the all-foam version of the original DreamCloud Hybrid model and shares many of that bed’s characteristics.
The DreamCloud contains similar features to the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam such as gel-infused memory foam and has a quilted cover. However, unlike the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam bed, the DreamCloud Memory Foam mattress feels incredibly firm. We rated it as a 7.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The DreamCloud Memory Foam is way more expensive than the Novaform ComfortGrande Advanced Gel Memory Foam, by nearly $1,000 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: Back and stomach sleepers should enjoy how firm, supportive, and sturdy the DreamCloud Memory Foam mattress is but they will still get some comfort from the quilted cover.
- Cooling: Hot sleepers looking for an all-foam bed should consider the DreamCloud Memory Foam mattress, as it performed quite well in our thermal gun cooling test.
