- Back sleepers should really like this bed with its combination of support and comfort. It’s especially a homerun for heavier back sleepers.
- Couples should also be happy with the Big Fig due to its strong motion isolation and edge support. Big Fig also says the bed supports up to 1,100 pounds.
- Lastly, if you sleep hot, I think you’ll like the Big Fig and the cooling capabilities in it.
Who Should Buy the WinkBed Plus
- Anyone who likes zoned support where the firmness levels change in the mattress should be drawn to the WinkBed Plus. This especially is good for back sleepers with shoulder pain. I’ll cover this more in the construction section below. Also, back sleepers in general should really like this bed, especially heavier weight back sleepers.

Now let’s get into detail about how these beds feel. A mattress will feel different to you depending on your body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position.
Big Fig
We gave the Big Fig an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for medium-firm is a 6.5 out of 10, so it has a firmer feel. Because of this, it’s a great option for stomach sleepers since it’ll offer the needed support to keep their hips aligned with their shoulders.
The Big Fig has a cushiony top layer with foams beneath the cover, so this gives some nice pressure relief for back sleepers and some side sleepers.
Overall, the Big Fig has a supportive and responsive feel that should attract combination sleepers who move around in the night.
WinkBed Plus
We gave the WinkBed Plus a 7.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale — making it firmer than the industry standard. We thought it provided good spinal alignment for heavy back sleepers. The WinkBed Plus includes a Euro pillow top for extra cushioning along with a layer of latex foam for pressure relief.
The mix of foams and individually wrapped coils in this mattress helps it sleep cool, which is a great feature for hot sleepers and couples. The coils also give a firm, bouncy feel.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Big Fig and the WinkBed Plus
As mentioned earlier, your body weight and preferred sleeping position will determine how a mattress feels to you. So, let’s go through how each bed could feel for the following sleepers:
Big Fig
Back — I think the Big Fig is wonderful for back sleepers. It provides a lot of support and allows for the right amount of sinkage at the hips.
Side — I think a lot of side sleepers could feel good on this mattress. However, side sleepers with sensitive joints may want a softer option.
Stomach — I think these sleepers will feel great on the Big Fig. It’ll do a nice job keeping their hips lifted and in line with their shoulders, which helps prevent back pain from forming down the road.
Body Weight — Keep in mind this bed was designed for heavier sleepers. If you’re a lighter sleeper (weighing less than 130 pounds) or average weight sleeper (less than 250 pounds), you’ll likely feel the Big Fig to be firmer than someone who weighs more than you. Conversely, if you’re a heavy sleeper (over 250 pounds), you’re going to sink into the Big Fig more and get more pressure relief from it. I think the Big Fig is supportive enough for heavy sleepers due to its sturdy construction.
WinkBed Plus
Back — The WinkBed Plus is great for back sleepers. Its firm build will help promote a healthy sleep posture.
Side — I don’t think the WinkBed Plus will have enough sinkage for strict side sleepers. I think these sleepers could feel some pressure forming around their joints. If you’re a side sleeper, I’d look for a softer bed, like one of our best memory foam mattresses.
Stomach — I think the WinkBed Plus will work for a lot of stomach sleepers. However, one of our testers who carries weight around his stomach said he felt a lot of uncomfortable pressure there due to the firmness of the bed. So if you’re sleeper with a larger midsection, I’d recommend looking for a bed with more sinkage.
Body Weight — If you’re a lighter sleeper, this mattress will feel a bit firmer, and if you’re heavier, it will feel a bit softer. This bed is a great choice for heavier sleepers, as it was designed with them in mind.

Comparing Big Fig and WinkBed Plus Mattress Materials
Now that you know how the Big Fig and the WinkBed Plus feel, I want to dive into their layers to see the full construction of each mattress.
Big Fig
Cover — The cover of the Big Fig is a ThermoGel knit blend that has a plush feel. The fabric is blended with a gel material that helps with temperature regulation by dissipating body heat.
Comfort Layer – The top layer is a gel-infused latex foam that is aerated to allow airflow through the mattress. Latex is known for its cooling attributes as well as for being a responsive material that will provide some bounce to the mattress.
Transition Layer – Below the latex layer are three separate one-inch layers of high-density polyfoam, or polyurethane foam. These layers are pretty firm to provide support and have a quick response to pressure to help give some bounce to the mattress and prevent a “stuck” feeling.
Support Layer – The support center of the mattress is a pocketed coil layer. Since these pocketed coils are individually wrapped, they often provide better motion isolation than traditional innerspring mattress coils.
Base Layer – There is a final layer of poly foam at the base of the mattress. This is the layer that the pocketed coil support layer rests on. The base also provides some durability to the mattress.
Edge Support – A layer of high-density poly foam surrounds the pocketed coil support system. This edge foam is a firm layer that is meant to support weight so the sleeper won’t collapse the edge of the mattress if they roll near the side.
WinkBed Plus
Cover – The Plus has a Tencel cover. Tencel is a natural, eco-friendly fiber made from eucalyptus. It has a soft feel and is really breathable, which helps prevent overheating.
Pillow Top Layer – The WinkBed Plus’s Euro pillow top is quilted with high-density “anti-sag” foam. This layer provides a bit of extra cushioning.
Comfort Layer – Next up is a 2.5-inch layer of latex foam that is zoned to be denser in areas you need added support, like the hips, and softer at the shoulders and feet. Latex has a bouncy, yet pressure-relieving feel and is naturally breathable.
Support Layer – Lastly is a layer of individually wrapped coils that are specifically designed to support heavier body weights. This layer gives the mattress its firm, bouncy feel.
