Who Should Buy the Avocado Eco Organic
- If you’re looking for an eco-friendly, organic product, this is a great choice for you. The materials are sustainable and ethically made with the eco-conscious consumer in mind. It’s also super affordable for an organic bed.
- If you’re looking for a durable mattress, I think the Avocado Eco Organic is a great choice. Dunlop latex (one of the bed’s key materials) is known to last for a long time.
- Lastly, if you’re a back, side, or back-side combination sleeper, I think you’ll enjoy this mattress.
Who Should Buy the Purple
- If you’re not interested in the traditional mattress feel, then I’d recommend checking out the Purple. This mattress gives a “floating on air” feeling.
- Sleepers with pain issues should really like the pressure-relieving abilities that this mattress has to offer.
- Similar to the Avocado Eco Organic, I think back, side, or back-side combination sleepers should feel great on this mattress.

- They both are made in the United States and ship for free compressed in a box.
- Both beds come with a 100-night trial and 10-year warranty. And they’re both roughly 10 inches in height.
- Both are great for back sleepers and a lot of side sleepers.
Differences
- The Purple is a bit more expensive than the Avocado Eco Organic at full retail. But we do always have coupons to help you out.
- We’ll dive into this more in the construction section, but they’re also built totally differently. The Avocado Eco Organic is all organic, eco-friendly materials with latex and coils, while the Purple is made with the unique Purple grid layer and polyfoams.
- Due to its unique design, I think the Purple would be a better option for people with pain concerns. It does a great job with pressure relief.
Avocado and Purple Mattress Feel Comparison
Now let’s get into detail about how these beds feel. A mattress will feel different to you depending on your body weight, shape, and preferred sleeping position.
Avocado Eco Organic
We gave the Avocado Eco Organic a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for medium-firm is a 6.5 out of 10, so it has a slightly softer feel. The top latex layer conforms nicely to pressure points, making it a good choice for back and side sleepers.
Overall, the Avocado Eco Organic has a bouncy, durable feel. I think it’d work really well for combination sleepers who want to move around on the bed with ease.
Purple
We gave the Purple a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale — making it a true medium-firm bed. I thought it provided good spinal alignment for strict back sleepers. The GelFlex Grid offers strong pressure relief and cooling for a lot of sleepers.
Overall, you’re not going to feel yourself sinking deep into this mattress (like you would on a memory foam bed). Instead, you’ll feel lifted up, as if you’re almost floating.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Avocado and Purple
As mentioned earlier, your body weight and preferred sleeping position will determine how a mattress feels to you. So, let’s go through how each bed could feel for the following sleepers:
Avocado
Back — I think the Avocado Eco Organic is a homerun for back sleepers. It’s firm enough to prevent sagging, but it still allows for some sinkage around the lumbar region.
Side — I think the Avocado could work for a lot of average weight side sleepers (130 to 250 pounds). They should feel low pressure around their hips and shoulders. However, anyone with joint pain may want to opt for a soft mattress.
Stomach — I think lightweight stomach sleepers (weighing under 130 pounds) will feel comfortable on this bed. It should keep their hips elevated and aligned with their spine, which is crucial to prevent back pain. But sleepers weighing more than 130 pounds may sink too far into the bed.
Body Weight — If you’re a lighter sleeper, a mattress is going to feel firmer to you than a sleeper who’s heavier than you. Conversely, if you’re a heavier sleeper, a mattress is going to feel softer to you, as you’ll sink into it more. I don’t think the Avocado Eco Organic is going to be supportive enough for sleepers who weigh more than 250 pounds.
Purple
Back — The Purple is a good choice for back sleepers. They’ll enjoy the pressure relief they’ll get around their lower back.
Side — I think most side sleepers are going to be comfortable on this bed as the polymer layer provides some nice contouring.
Stomach — I don’t think the Purple is firm enough for stomach sleepers weighing more than 130 pounds. They’re going to want a more firm mattress to prop their hips up and prevent their spine from curving.
Body Weight — If you’re a lighter sleeper, this mattress will feel a bit firmer, and if you’re heavier, it will feel a bit softer. I don’t think the Purple has the level of support heavier sleepers (weighing over 250 pounds) need. I recommend heavy people look for a bed specifically designed for higher body weights which can be seen on our best mattresses for heavy people page.

Now that you have a better idea of how the Avocado Eco Organic and Purple feel, I want to dive into their layers to see the full construction of each mattress.
Avocado Eco Organic
Cover — The cover is made with GOTS certified organic cotton and organic wool. This gives it a soft-to-the-touch, breathable feel.
Comfort Layer — This layer consists of GOLS-certified natural Dunlop latex. Organic latex is known to be durable, bouncy, and cooling.
Support Layer — Next are individually wrapped coils that are thicker at the border of the bed to add more support for the edges. The coils are made from recycled steel and also allow for airflow to keep you cool at night.
Purple
Cover – The mattress cover is made from a blend of polyester, lycra, and viscose. It has a soft feel and is really breathable.
Comfort Layer – This layer is made of the Hyper-Elastic polymer Purple Grid. This layer has a waffle-like design, which means there’s a lot of airflow. It has a soft, squishy, and stretchy feel and offers some great initial pressure relief.
Transition Layer – Next up is a layer of high-density polyurethane foam. This makes the bed feel supportive and keeps the sleeper from sinking too far into the mattress.
Base Layer – The base layer is poly foam that has a slightly higher density than the foam layer above it. This gives the bed even more support and some added durability.

- I’m really impressed with how pressure-relieving this mattress is. I’d recommend anyone who suffers from pain to try this bed out for some relief.
