Loom & Leaf Mattress Overview
The Loom & Leaf mattress by Saatva has the classic memory foam that allows you to sink in while still providing a ton of support. This mattress comes in two firmness options, Relaxed Firm and Firm, so you can choose which one is right for you depending on your sleeping position, body type, and other sleep preferences.
The Loom & Leaf is a luxury mattress, meaning it’s been designed with very high-quality materials that are durable and should last a long time. With four layers of foam, this mattress provides deep sinkage and body contouring to help with aches and pains, especially for those with more sensitive joints like seniors.
This mattress is made by Saatva, a popular bed-in-a-box mattress brand that appears frequently within our roundups. To learn more about Saatva and the secret to its success, check out our interview with Saatva founder Ron Rudzin.
Loom & Leaf Mattress Review Video
Want to get up close and personal with the Loom & Leaf mattress? Check out my review video where I look at the mattress’s layers and test it for motion isolation, pressure relief, and more. Overall, I rated the Loom & Leaf a 4.3 out of 5 stars.
What Is the Loom & Leaf Mattress Made Of?
The Loom & Leaf is built with four foam layers of gel-infused memory foam, memory foam, poly foam, and high-density poly foam. This combination of materials is intended to create a firm yet gentle structure that balances pressure relief and support.
Cover – The Loom & Leaf has an organic cotton cover with a soft and cozy feel.
Comfort Layer – The comfort layer is crafted from a thick section of cooling gel-infused memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure that allows the sleeper to sink in for pressure relief, especially at the shoulders and hips. Although memory foam has a bit of a reputation for overheating at night, the gel infusion here is meant to slow down this process.
Contour Layer – Another layer of luxury memory foam follows the top section, creating an even deeper sink for full body-contouring. A thick top section of memory foam like this will usually work best for side sleepers, who need to feel some cushiony support at the shoulders as they press into the structure.
Support Layer – Next up, you’ll find a transitional layer of poly foam, which has a much quicker response to pressure than the memory foam sections above it. This curbs some of the sinkage of the top layers and helps gradually ease the sleeper into the firm base below.
Support Layer – The base of the bed is made of high-density poly foam. This firm material gives the mattress its shape and helps to support the softer layers of foam above it.
Loom & Leaf Mattress Firmness
As with any feel factor, firmness is subjective and can change a lot depending on one’s body shape, size, and weight. To mitigate against any bias a single perspective might provide, I always test out my beds with a few of my coworkers. The score you see below is the average of our different personal firmness ratings, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest.
The Loom & Leaf comes in two firmness options: Relaxed Firm and Firm. I tested the Relaxed Firm version, and gave it a score of 6 on the firmness scale, which is just a bit softer than medium-firm. The Firm version ranks at an 8 on the firmness scale.
I gave the Loom & Leaf a 6 out of 10 because I found the combination of gentle memory foam and supportive polyfoam created a balanced, medium-soft feel. That’s not to say you won’t sink deeply into the structure — you likely will — but the feel will probably be a bit firmer than you might expect with many layers of memory foam.

Sleeping Position and Body Weight
Is the Loom & Leaf a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – Light back sleepers tend to experience mattresses a bit firmer than advertised, so I think the Loom & Leaf will be fine for these sleepers unless they prefer a true firm bed.
- Light Side Sleepers – I like the Relaxed Firm version of the mattress for light side sleepers, who should feel some deep sinkage, which will allow for pressure relief at common pain areas.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – The Relaxed Firm mattress may not be supportive enough for light stomach sleepers, but the Firm version of the Loom & Leaf will offer the stronger support at the hips that stomach sleepers need to prevent a bend in the spine.
Is the Loom & Leaf a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – These sleepers may feel that the Loom & Leaf is too soft for their needs. I would recommend the Saatva mattress for average weight back sleepers in search of more support and mobility.
Average Weight Side Sleepers – I’d say average weight side sleepers will likely enjoy this feel the most, as they’ll get some nice pressure relief at the shoulders and hips.
Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – This mattress is not going to be firm enough for average weight stomach sleepers. The Firm version of the Loom & Leaf would be a better fit for these sleepers.
Is the Loom & Leaf a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (Over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers — I’d say this mattress works for heavy sleepers because of the high density memory foam designed to prevent over-sinking and sagging. The Firm model of the Loom & Leaf would be a good fit for these sleepers.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – These side sleepers will appreciate that the Relaxed Firm’s memory foam layers allow for some sinkage, but provide enough support to relieve pressure.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – The Firm version of the Loom & Leaf will offer the strong support that heavy stomach sleepers need to prevent back pain from sinkage at the hips.
Loom & Leaf Mattress Performance
Here at Sleepopolis, our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches run a series of tests on each mattress we review. These tests give us a holistic view of what it would be like to sleep on them and also allow us to make specific recommendations to each sleeper in addition to their sleeping position and body time. Below, see how the Loom & Leaf performs in areas such as pain relief, motion transfer, cooling, and more.
Loom & Leaf Mattress Pain Relief Performance
When we discuss pressure relief, we mean how a bed feels against key pressure points on your body in a variety of sleeping positions. How well a bed alleviates pressure at the shoulders and hips is important for every sleeper to consider. This is a crucial factor if you struggle with pain, as a mattress with good pressure relief can help prevent aches and stiffness.
I measured the pressure relief on the Loom & Leaf mattress by using a specialized mat that displays pressure on a visual map. I rolled the mat across the Loom & Leaf and moved into different sleeping positions. The mat records the pressure points the mattress created and provides a thermal imaging graphic to display the results. Blue to green areas indicate low pressure while orange to red areas show high pressure. We cover three different areas: back pain, shoulder pain, and hip pain.
Before looking at the pain relief performance results, remember that your sleeping position will largely determine if a mattress causes or alleviates pain, and should be the first factor you consider. For example, very firm mattresses are not recommended for side sleepers because they aren’t soft enough to cradle the pressure points at your hips and shoulders. So side sleepers will probably want to steer clear of firm mattresses, regardless of what the pressure map says.
As you can see on the map, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress when I laid on my back and side. I could feel the top layers of memory foam filling in the space at my lumbar region while back sleeping, which provided pressure relief. These soft foams cushioned my shoulders when side sleeping, which makes me believe this mattress could be a nice choice for these sleepers.
While this mattress may be pressure relieving for back and side sleepers with hip pain, most strict stomach sleepers will want a firmer option that prevents the hips from sinking out of line with the shoulders. The Firm version of this model should work nicely for stomach sleepers with hip pain.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer refers to the amount of movement detectable from one side of the bed to the other. This is an especially important factor for couples to pay attention to, as it’ll simulate how likely you are to be disturbed by a partner, pet, or child tossing and turning at night. We test motion transfer using a seismometer to give us a full scope of the mattress’s ability to isolate motion.
Seismometer Test
Our seismometer involves dropping a 10 pound steel ball from heights of four inches, eight inches and 12 inches, then measuring the disturbance it causes: the bigger the lines on the graph, the bigger the disturbance and the higher the motion transfer. These three heights represent what it may feel like when someone is tossing and turning, getting out of bed, and jumping on the bed.
I was impressed by the motion isolation on the Loom & Leaf mattress. Like most memory foam mattresses, it was able to absorb the majority of movement from the other side of the bed. This tells me you’re unlikely to be disturbed by a partner moving at night.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness refers to how quickly a mattress is able to return to its original shape after pressing down on its top layer and removing your hand. As you may have guessed, memory foam mattresses, like the Loom & Leaf, have a low response to pressure, while hybrid mattresses with coils tend to have a higher response to pressure. Responsive mattresses are typically bouncier, which makes them a good choice for sex since they’re easy to move around on. These traits also make them good for combination sleepers who switch between sleeping positions at night.
As I suspected, the Loom & Leaf mattress is not very responsive. The foam provides a lot of sinkage and you’ll definitely feel more “in” the bed than “on” the bed. Since there are no springs or coils in the mattress, there’s not a ton of bounce
Cooling
Multiple factors can contribute to a mattress’s cooling ability. The materials found within the mattress are usually a good indicator of how cool it will sleep. For example, memory foam mattresses tend to trap body heat within their layers and sleep a bit hot, while hybrid mattresses with coils provide more airflow. A way to combat the naturally warm tendency of foam is by infusing it with gel, which is exactly what I see in the comfort layer of the Loom & Leaf. However, I still found this mattress to still sleep on the warmer side, so it might not be the best pick for those who run hot at night. I’d recommend checking out our top picks for best cooling mattresses.
Keep in mind that several outside factors can affect cooling, including the temperature of your bedroom, how close your bed is to an air vent or window, and your body’s own temperature, which can vary from person to person.
Edge Support
Edge support refers to how well a mattress supports weight around its perimeter. Couples, in particular, may want a bed with excellent edge support so both partners can spread out and use the entire surface of the bed. This is also an appealing feature for heavier people who want to avoid premature sagging.
The Loom & Leaf has strong edge support. This isn’t a surprise – it’s a luxury mattress made from high-quality materials that aren’t prone to sagging. Finding this sort of edge support in a memory foam mattress is quite rare, so this feature makes the Loom & Leaf really stand out. I think both couples and heavier sleepers would appreciate the support and durability the edge support provides.
Loom & Leaf Mattress Performance For Couples
When couples consider a mattress, there are a few elements they may want to consider. Ability to sleep cool, isolate motion, be responsive, and provide strong edge support are some of the most important factors. Based on these, I believe the Loom & Leaf could be a good pick for some couples, but other couples may not appreciate some of its qualities. Two people tend to overheat quicker than one person, and this mattress already struggles in the cooling department. It also lacks responsiveness, so it isn’t the best mattress for sex. That being said, this mattress does provide excellent motion isolation, so you won’t be disturbed by your partner’s movements, and the solid edge support will allow you both to really spread out at night.

My Final Thoughts about the Loom & Leaf Mattress
We’ve arrived at the end of my Loom & Leaf mattress review. Now, you just have to answer the big question: Is the Loom & Leaf a good mattress for you? To help answer this question, here’s a quick recap of who I think would enjoy this mattress and who may want to avoid it.
Who I Recommend the Loom & Leaf Mattress For
- I think the Relaxed Firm version of the Loom & Leaf is a nice choice for side sleepers, who should get some good sinkage which will allow for pressure relief at their pressure points at the hips and shoulders. You can also check out our best mattress for side sleepers roundup for more ideas.
- The Firm version of the Loom & Leaf is a good mattress for stomach sleepers, who should feel their hips propped up in line with their shoulders, which should help prevent back pain.
- I think heavier sleepers could be happy on the Loom & Leaf. Its memory foam layers allow for some great deep compression.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Loom & Leaf Mattress For
- Though the Loom & Leaf does have some cooling features, I do think this mattress sleeps a bit hot. If you’re a hot sleeper, I’d recommend checking out one of our best cooling mattresses.
- I think anyone in search of a bouncy mattress won’t be happy on the Loom & Leaf. This bed definitely has a more “in” the bed feel. If you’re a combination sleeper who tends to switch positions while you sleep, you might be happier on one of our picks for the best hybrid mattress.

Loom & Leaf Mattress Vs
Now that we have a good idea of what the Loom & Leaf mattress is all about, let’s see how it compares to models from other mattress companies. We’ll size it up against two of its competitors from other popular online mattress brands: Tempur-Pedic and Casper.
Tempur-Pedic LuxeAdapt vs Loom & Leaf
Like the Loom & Leaf, the Tempur-Pedic LuxeAdapt is an all-foam mattress built for pressure relief. This mattress also provides a lot of sinkage and deep body contouring.
- Price: The Tempur-Pedic LuxeAdapt is much more expensive than the Loom & Leaf, starting at $3,799.
- Sleeping position: Both mattresses are suitable for side sleepers, but the Tempur-Pedic is softer and may be better for those with hip and shoulder pain.
- Cooling: Both mattresses incorporate cooling technology, but I wouldn’t recommend either to sleepers who run hot at night.
- Body weight: The Tempur-Pedic is a bit too soft for heavy sleepers, but the Loom & Leaf should provide enough support while still relieving pressure

Casper vs Loom & Leaf
The Casper comes in an all-foam and hybrid version, while the Loom & Leaf is a strictly all-foam model. The Casper is a bit firmer than the Relaxed Firm version of the Loom & Leaf and a bit softer than the Firm version of the Loom & Leaf.
- Price: The Loom & Leaf is more expensive than the Casper.
- Sleeping position: Both mattresses are suitable for back and side sleepers.
- Cooling: The Casper sleeps a bit cooler than the Loom & Leaf due to its layer of proprietary Airscape Foam that allows for a bit more airflow through the mattress.
- Body weight: The Casper could be a good option for heavy side sleepers, but the Loom & Leaf is better suited for heavier sleepers in all sleeping positions.

Paul, Casper customerOther Models from Saatva
The Loom & Leaf mattress is created by Saatva, which also sells a variety of other models. Let’s see how the Loom & Leaf compares to the original Saatva mattress and the Zenhaven Mattress.
Saatva vs Loom & Leaf
Unlike the Loom & Leaf, the Saatva is an innerspring mattress and is quite a bit firmer.
- Price: The Loom & Leaf is a few hundred dollars more than the Saatva.
- Sleeping position: Both mattresses come in different firmness options, so you can choose the one that is most compatible with your preferred sleeping position. As a reminder, side sleepers typically need a softer model and stomach sleepers do best with a firmer model.
- Cooling: The Saatva has two layers of coils, which provide a ton of airflow and make this a great mattress for hot sleepers.
- Body weight: The Saatva may not be the most supportive for heavy sleepers, but Saatva offers a model made specifically for heavier folk, the Saatva HD.

Patty, Saatva customerZenhaven vs Loom & Leaf
The Zenhaven is Saatva’s all-latex mattress. It’s a flippable mattress with a different firmness level on each side.
- Price: The Zenhaven is more expensive than the Loom & Leaf due to its use of latex, a pricier material.
- Sleeping position: The Zenhaven is made entirely of all-natural latex, which makes it very bouncy and responsive. Combination sleepers should be able to easily switch from one position to another.
- Cooling: The latex in the Zenhaven makes it super0cooling, so this mattress would be the better choice for hot sleepers.
- Body weight: Both mattresses are supportive options for heavy sleepers, but those weighing over 300 pounds may want to check out the Saatva HD, which was built specifically for these sleepers.

Our Review Process
At Sleepopolis, our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time laying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.
