Best Mattress for Guest Room (2025), Comfort Worth Staying For

If you want your guests to get better sleep at your house than they do at theirs, the Nectar Classic might be the best memory foam mattress for the job. The Nectar Classic is an affordable option that earned a 4 out of 5 or higher in every one of our testing categories, with its most notable points being pressure relief, motion isolation, and cooling.

When I think of the guest beds that I’ve slept in, I look back on surfaces that made me wake up feeling stiff, sore, and uncomfortable. Fortunately, your guests shouldn’t share the same fate as me if you decide to get the Nectar Classic. During testing, we were impressed with its stellar tension-relieving performance for back and side sleeping, and awarded it a 4 out of 5 for pressure relief in both positions.

The Nectar Classic does a fantastic job of cradling your hips and shoulders if you’re a side sleeper and filling out your lower lumbar area if you’re a back sleeper. While testing the Nectar Classic, we also invited our chief medical product tester and licensed physical therapist, Dr. Joe Tedesco, to try the mattress himself and offer his opinion.

As a back sleeper, Dr. Tedesco found that the Nectar Classic offered the perfect blend of comfort and support in this position. He also noted that sleepers should feel properly aligned on this mattress on their sides as well.

“After spending about five minutes on this mattress, I notice I’m incredibly supported,” said Dr. Tedesco. “I don’t feel like I’m sinking into it. It’s a firm foam feeling. This is a good mattress for people who need structure in a bed; so if you’re someone with loose ligaments and joint instabilities, you might feel some good orthopedic alignment.”

Speaking of stability, the Nectar Classic is perfect for couples, thanks to its excellent motion isolation. If your guests tend to travel in pairs and like each other enough to share a single mattress, then a queen or king-size  Nectar should be enough to accommodate them. After testing this mattress with a colleague, I gave it a near-perfect 4.7 out of 5 for motion isolation. 

To test how effectively the Nectar isolates motion to one side of the mattress, I had my colleague Livvi DiCicco move around and get in and out of bed on one side while I lay still and blindfolded on the other. Throughout the test, I barely felt her movements. The only time  I noticed any motion was when she stood up. Overall, I was impressed by how well the mattress absorbed movement and prevented it from transferring across the surface.

Another high point for hot sleepers and couples alike is the Nectar’s outstanding cooling capabilities. I gave the Nectar Classic a 4.5 out of 5 for cooling because of its crisp, comfortable cover layer and exceptional thermal gun test performance. For this test, I used a thermal gun to measure the surface temperature of the Nectar before and after lying on it for five minutes. After a few minutes of uninterrupted rest, the temperature only increased by 5.4 degrees, which is especially surprising for an all-foam mattress, as these tend to retain more heat.

However, as impressive as the Nectar Classic is, I wouldn’t recommend it to all sleepers. If your guests weigh over 230 pounds, they will likely find that this mattress sinks in too much for them. I would suggest getting a more supportive hybrid model instead. And while the Nectar is fairly responsive for a memory foam mattress, combination sleepers might find it harder to maneuver on than its innerspring counterparts.

For those who strive to give their guests a luxurious night’s rest, the recently revamped Helix Midnight provides pressure-relieving comfort at an affordable price. The queen-sized Helix Midnight is my pick for the best value mattress for guest bedrooms because it scored a 4 out of 5 in edge support, motion isolation, and back pressure relief, for under $1,000 when on promotion (which is often).

A budget-friendly price tag typically comes at the cost of quality materials and durability. Thankfully, that is not the case with the Helix Midnight. During testing, Dan Caffrey awarded the Midnight a strong 4 out of 5 for edge support, which is typically a good indicator of durability. Generally, mattresses with a secure perimeter are less likely to sag over time, meaning Midnight could serve your guests well for years to come.

“I could feel the layers collapse very slightly as I lay on the edge,” Dan said. “However, I never felt like I was going to fall off.”

The Helix Midnight earned another 4 out of 5 for motion isolation, thanks to its ability to dampen motion and prevent it from transferring to the other side of the bed. To test the Helix’s motion transfer, Dan lay on one side of the bed blindfolded, while another tester moved around on the other. Overall, he was impressed with how little movement he felt.

“I could feel some movement here and there, but it was very minimal,” Dan said. “I don’t think it would wake up someone who is a light sleeper.” 

Finally, the Helix earned another 4-star score for back pressure relief. Dan was impressed by the Midnight mattress’s ability to balance cushioning around his lower back while providing enough support to align his spine.

However, I wouldn’t get the Helix Midnight if you know your guests are combination sleepers or tend to overheat at night. While the soft memory foam layer offered some great cushioning and pressure relief during testing, it also trapped more heat and made it challenging to change between different sleeping positions.

The newly redesigned DreamCloud Hybrid is the perfect mattress for guest rooms that often host couples. The DreamCloud’s well-rounded construction blends comfort, support, and cooling to accommodate a wide range of body types and sleep preferences. It’s also often available for under $1,000 after discounts, offering serious value for a hybrid mattress of this quality and size. During testing, we gave the DreamCloud 4 out of 5 or higher in edge support, cooling, and back pressure relief, all of which are especially important for couples who share a bed.

Effective temperature regulation becomes even more pressing when two bodies share a bed. Fortunately for hot sleeping couples, the DreamCloud earned a 4.5 out of 5 in our cooling category. During our thermal gun test, Riley Otis found that the gel memory foam and breathable coil system work together to prevent heat buildup. After five minutes of lying on the DreamCloud, Riley recorded just a 4.3-degree temperature increase, which is excellent.

“The cover felt cool-to-the-touch, and I couldn’t feel it heating up as I lay on the mattress,” Riley said. “I believe the gel-infused memory foam helps keep the overall temperature neutral.”

Edge support also earned a 4 out of 5, thanks to its reinforced perimeter that allows two people to comfortably stretch out without feeling like they’ll roll off the edge.

“While lying along the side of the DreamCloud, I felt steady and secure,” Riley said. “There wasn’t too much sinkage. However, I felt the most secure on my back and stomach along the perimeter.”

The DreamCloud also excelled in back pressure relief, earning a perfect 5-star rating. Riley and her fellow testers praised its ability to maintain spinal alignment and cushion the lower back without sagging, which is another huge benefit for couples with varying sleep preferences.

Riley also invited our chief medical product tester and licensed physical therapist, Dr. Joe Tedesco, to give his clinical perspective on the DreamCloud mattress. Dr. Tedesco praised the DreamCloud for its exceptional pressure relief for stomach and back sleeping.

“Most folks with back pain and stomach sleepers should do well on this mattress,” Dr. Tedesco said. “I like how soft and contouring it is around my hips when I am on my back. It’s a softer mattress and I sink in a little, but once I get settled, I feel very supported.”

However, the DreamCloud is probably not the best candidate for lightweight side sleepers or guests with sensitive joints. It earned a 3.5 out of 5 for side-sleeping pressure relief, with our testers noting some firmness around the hips and shoulders. If your guests are side sleepers under 130 pounds, you may want to opt for a soft mattress instead.

If you frequently host guests who prefer, or need, a firmer sleep surface, the WinkBed Plus is an exceptional choice. With its elevated comfort and reliable support, this hybrid mattress might have your guests wanting to move in. During testing, mattress tester Livvi DiCicco and I rated the WinkBed Plus 4 out of 5 or higher in cooling, responsiveness, and pressure relief, with an overall score of 4.9 out of 5.

As a hot sleeper, the WinkBed Plus is one icy unicorn that deserves all the praise. Livvi and I gave the WinkBed a perfect 5 out of 5 for cooling because of its impressive thermal gun test results. After measuring the temperature of its surface before and after lying on it for five minutes, I found that it increased by just 3.4 degrees, outperforming the majority of mattresses that come through our doors.

The WinkBed is another major win for combination sleepers who shift around during the night. We gave it another 5-star score in the responsiveness category because of how easy it was to maneuver on this bed. During testing, it felt like I was on a trampoline as I easily changed positions without ever feeling stuck in its soft foam layers.

Pressure relief rounds out its guest-ready strengths. Whether your guests are side, back, or combo sleepers, this mattress adapts well across all sleeping positions. After testing it with several people across various weight ranges, Livvi and I averaged a 4.7 out of 5 in pressure relief.

Mattress tester Caine Wilkes, who represented larger-bodied sleepers, may have summed it up best: “I’m lying on a cloud right now. Everything feels nice. I feel cushioned and aligned throughout my entire body.”

The only downside is that this bed is built like a tank. Its durable construction does make it heavy, so we recommend enlisting a helping hand (or two) for setup.

Hosts aiming to bring five-star comfort into their guest rooms should move the Luxury Firm Nolah Evolution to the top of their lists. The Nolah Evolution has all the makings of an upscale luxury mattress, including plush top layers, targeted support, and durable construction. During testing, we gave it a 4 out of 5 or higher in pressure relief, cooling, and edge support, making it one of the most well-rounded, guest-friendly mattresses we’ve tested.

The Evolution cushions and supports in all the right places, especially when sleeping on your side. Using our pressure map, we recorded a PSI (pressure per square inch) of 12.53 on the hips of our average-weight tester, which is much lower than the side-sleeper average of 14.9. That earned the Evolution a 4.3 out of 5 in pressure relief.

“I liked this bed on my side overall,” said tester Erin Chiles. “It hugged my body nicely, and I felt supported. I felt minimal pressure in my hips, and it was very comfortable.”

Back sleepers also fare well, according to our chief medical product tester, Dr. Joe Tedesco.

“Of all the beds I’ve tested, this is one of my favorites,” Dr. Tedesco said. “I feel relaxed when I am on my back, but I also feel balanced and supported. I would recommend this mattress to folks with spinal stenosis or arthritis in the back. Side sleepers should also benefit from this mattress. Overall, people with different joint issues should find great comfort in this mattress.”

The Nolah Evolution’s organic cotton cover and temperature-regulating fiber-infused foams helped earn another 4.5 out of 5 in the cooling category.

“The organic cotton was cool to the touch,” said tester Sosha Lewis. “I could feel the heat leaving my body as I was on the Nolah. It was incredibly comfortable.”

And if your guests like to sprawl or share a bed, edge support won’t be an issue. The Nolah Evolution earned a 4.6 out of 5 in edge support, providing stable structure from the center to the perimeter for full use of the sleep surface.

That said, stomach sleepers may find it too plush, and while it excels in luxury, its premium price tag may not work for tighter budgets. However, if you’re a host looking to give your guests the royal treatment, the Nolah Evolution is a kingly fit.

Sometimes, when you’re entertaining guests, it’s best to go with a tried and true classic. The Luxury Firm Saatva blends old-school innerspring reliability with a few luxurious modern touches. Its responsive dual coil support system and plush Euro top are perfect for elevating your guests’ stay. During testing, Livvi and I gave the Saatva Classic 4 stars or more in cooling and edge support.

The many mornings I’ve woken up covered in sweat have made me very critical during our cooling tests. However, I’m pleased to report that Livvi and I gave it a 4-star cooling score for its ability to keep heat at bay. Even with its plush mattress topper, it only warmed by 7.8 degrees after five minutes of use, which is a solid result for a mattress with a foam comfort layer as dense as this.

Livvi and I were also very impressed with the Saatva Classic’s secure perimeter. You won’t have to worry about your guests falling out of bed on this mattress, thanks to its supportive, sag-resistant sides. We placed a stack of weights along the border of the mattress and found that it only sank 3 inches near the edge. Livvi and I awarded its edge support a 4.8 out of 5.

However, the Saatva Classic’s biggest strength is a double-edged sword. We gave the Saatva a perfect 5 out of 5 for responsiveness because its dual coil system makes it easy to change sleeping positions on its surface, making it a dream come true for combination sleepers.

On the other hand, its dual coil layers tend to transfer a lot of movement across the surface. Livvi and I gave it a 2.8 out of 5 for motion isolation, which might be a concern for light sleepers who plan to share the bed.

“As someone who owns this mattress and sleeps on it every night, I’d have to agree that motion isolation is its biggest weakness,” Livvi said. “Whenever friends or family sleep over, I can feel every movement they make on their side of the bed.”

It’s also worth noting that Saatva Classic is a little too firm for side sleeping. According to our chief medical product tester, Dr. Joe Tedesco, the coil layers can cause pressure points in this position. If your guests tend to sleep on their side, a plusher memory foam option might be a better fit.

Its stellar edge support also earned a near-perfect 4.6 out of 5 during testing. Not only is this mattress easy to move around on, but you can also use the entire surface, including its perimeter, without feeling unsteady or like you are about to fall off. Edge support is also a great indicator of durability, as our chief medical advisor, Dr. Raj Dasgupta, explains, “The two hallmarks of a durable mattress are a sturdy support core and reliable edge support. A quality mattress should deliver lasting comfort while retaining its shape and performance over time.”

If you’re like me and put the guest bed in the bedroom that directly faces the sun, you’ll be pleased to know that the Bear Star Hybrid has excellent cooling to prevent your family from roasting like the turkey when they visit on Thanksgiving. During testing, I could barely feel the heat on the pillow top layer after standing up and feeling where I had lain. Thanks to its breathable fabrics and airy innerspring coils, this mattress does a great job of regulating temperature. Overall, I gave it 4 out of 5 for cooling.

Unfortunately, the Bear Star Hybrid isn’t perfect. I found that it had average performances in pressure relief and motion isolation. While its pillow-top cover layer offers some cushioning, it isn’t enough to alleviate pressure around the hips and shoulders for side sleepers. Additionally, couples who are easily disturbed by motion will probably feel each other’s every movement at night, thanks to its springy, responsive surface.

Using a thermal gun, I recorded a temperature increase of just six degrees after lying on it for 5 minutes, which indicates excellent airflow and heat dispersion. Even while testing, I barely noticed any warmth building up beneath me, which is why I gave it a near-perfect 4.5 out of 5 for cooling.

The Signature Hybrid’s strong edge support is another perk for guest room mattresses, especially if you frequently host couples. I gave the Signature Hybrid a 4.3 out of 5 in edge support, because I could comfortably sit or lie on the perimeter without feeling unstable. This added support also maximizes the usable surface area, so your guests can spread out without fear of rolling off the edge.

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid’s consistent support is also a godsend for back sleepers, especially those with aches and pains. I brought in our chief medical product tester, licensed physical therapist Dr. Joe Tedesco, to get his take. As a back sleeper, he was particularly impressed with how the Signature Hybrid distributed his weight.

“I feel awesome across the board,” Dr. Tedesco said. “The Signature Hybrid is very supportive and great at eliminating pressure buildup in my back. I don’t feel any significant tension anywhere, and I feel like my hips are very supported.”

Of course, there are a couple of tradeoffs to note. Motion isolation and responsiveness were about average in our tests, meaning this bed may not be ideal for couples who are easily disturbed by motion or those who change positions throughout the night.

The Titan Plus by Brooklyn Bedding is the best option for folks preparing their guest room to host sleepers with bigger bodies. “I was more comfortable on my side on the Titan Plus than on my back, which is surprising because I am normally a back sleeper,” Dr. Tedesco said. “On my side, I didn’t feel any significant pressure buildup. I was looking for pressure buildup in my shoulder, but didn’t feel much.”

Motion isolation and responsiveness also exceeded expectations, which is a rare combination in firmer hybrid mattresses. Our testers gave the Titan a surprising 5 out of 5 in both categories. So if you occasionally host couples or restless sleepers, this bed helps reduce motion transfer while making it easy to shift positions.

“My husband is a very restless sleeper, and the motion isolation on this bed makes me wish I could trade mine in for it,” Sosha added. “I could easily jump onto this mattress without worrying about the motion carrying over to the other side.”

That said, this is a very, very firm bed. Firmness is a feature that suits most heavier sleepers well, but might be too much for lighter side sleepers (especially those under 130 pounds) or guests with extremely sensitive joints. For these sleepers, we recommend a soft mattress to give them the best experience possible.

“I felt adequately supported in all three sleeping positions on the Birch when lying near the edge,” Dan said. “I never felt like I was going to fall off on either my back, side, or stomach.”

Dan also found that the breathable latex and innerspring coils helped the mattress stay cool after an extended time. Despite having no cooling gel or specialized temperature-regulating technology, the Birch Natural provided a crisp and comfortable sleeping environment. For this reason, Dan gave it another 4 out of 5 for cooling.

“I could feel it heating up just a little bit, but it wasn’t uncomfortable,” Dan said. “The temperature felt neutral and comfortable. Most sleepers shouldn’t have to worry about overheating on this mattress.”

The real crown jewel of the Birch Natural, however, is its pressure relief. Dan gave it an average pressure relief score of 4.1 out of 5 after testing it in the back and side sleeping positions. He also invited our chief medical product reviewer, Dr. Joe Tedesco, to offer his clinical perspective.

“This bed is a fantastic option for side sleepers because it is both soft and supportive,” Dr. Tedesco said. “I feel very relaxed when I am on my side, and I don’t feel any pressure points in this position.”

That said, there are a couple of potential drawbacks to consider before buying the Birch. While latex mattresses are known for their responsive support, they also aren’t the best at isolating motion. So, if you have couples over, they might find each other’s movements disruptive on this bed. Latex mattresses are also heavy and unwieldy to transfer between different rooms, so make sure you have a helping hand ready on delivery day.
