  • Firmness: Both mattresses come in more than one firmness. The Sealy Posturepedic has a Soft and Firm version (we tested the Soft), and the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze has a Soft, Medium Hybrid, and Firm version (we tested the Medium Hybrid). I should note the Soft and Firm versions of the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze are all-foam mattresses, though.

  • Trial & Warranty: Both mattresses come with a 90-night trial, 10-year warranty, and free white glove delivery. Fun fact: Sealy and Tempur-Pedic are owned by the same company, Tempur-Sealy!

Sealy Posturepedic vs Tempur-Pedic: Top Differences

  • Price: The TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze is considerably more expensive than the Sealy Posturepedic.

Sealy Posturepedic vs Tempur-Pedic: Construction & Feel Differences

Now let’s dig into how both of these beds feel. In this section, I’ll evaluate various factors, including firmness, pressure relief, bounce, and sinkage. Remember, these factors are highly subjective and can vary significantly based on individual body size, shape, and weight.

What’s the Firmness Difference?

Your size, weight, shape, and other factors determine your ideal level of firmness on a mattress, meaning your preferences probably won’t be the same as mine. When I test a mattress for firmness, I try to capture the variance different people might feel. For this reason, I test every mattress with colleagues of various body shapes, types, and sizes, then average their responses together to land on my final firmness score.

After testing this mattress with several colleagues, I gave both mattresses a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. We rate firmness on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. For reference, the industry standard for a medium-firm mattress is a 6.5 on the firmness scale.

What Does Each Mattress Feel Like?

I rated the Sealy Posturepedic as a 6.5 out of 10, meaning it is a true medium-firm bed. When lying on the Sealy Posturepedic, my colleagues and I felt more “on top” of the bed than in it, but still felt some of the foam layers conforming around our bodies. The use of sturdy coils and softer foams gives this bed a pleasant mix of comfort and support. Keep in mind we tested the Soft version of the Posturepedic, so the Firm version likely has a firmer feel.

The Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze is also a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, making it a medium-firm mattress, too. While these beds are similar in firmness, their feels are different. The TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze has an initially firm feel, but as the memory foam starts to conform around you, it feels softer and cozier. My colleagues and I felt this bed had a nice amount of sinkage, making it work well for relieving pressure.

Sealy Posturepedic vs Tempur-Pedic Comparing Mattress Performance

Temperature

Several factors contribute to a mattress’s cooling ability. First, I consider its construction. Since both mattresses have layers of pocketed coils, there’s plenty of room for air to flow through them and keep them cool.

After laying on each for a few minutes and measuring how much heat each one trapped, I found that both beds are great at regulating temperature. The Sealy Posturepedic features a coil base with lots of airflow and a gel-infused upper layer that prevents heat-trapping. During testing, I found it very cool to sleep on.

Similarly, I also found that the Tempur-Pedic has great cooling abilities, thanks to its SmartClimate Dual cover, Phase Change Material layer, and breathable comfort foam topper. These materials work together to produce a winning cooling combination that could be great for hot sleepers.

Motion Isolation

Hybrid mattresses typically come with lots of bounce, and the Sealy Posturepedic and Tempur-Pedic are no exception. These beds are highly responsive, meaning it’s simple to switch between sleeping positions and get in and out of bed.

To ensure that I’m not just speaking from my experience, I perform a few tests to determine if a bed is good at isolating motion. One of those tests consists of dropping a steel ball from various heights and measuring the disturbance it causes using a seismometer.

The Sealy Posturepedic’s seismometer test results.

I would say that the Sealy Posturepedic does a better job of isolating motion than the Tempur-Pedic. Based on its seismometer test results, you might feel your partner get in and out of bed a little bit, but they shouldn’t impact your side of the mattress too much if they shift around at night.

Edge Support

Both of these mattresses have solid edge support. During testing, I didn’t feel much sinkage as I sat and laid on the edge of these beds. Overall, I felt extremely comfortable and supported, even when I moved toward the perimeter of the mattress. However, when I sat near the edges and on the corners of the Sealy mattress, I could feel myself sink in a little more than on the Tempur-Pedic.

For this reason, I would say the Tempur LuxeBreeze is a better option for seniors and folks with mobility issues who rely on sturdy edge support to help them get up in the morning.

Pressure Relief

The Sealy Posturepedic did better than the Tempur-Pedic LuxeBreeze overall on our pressure map test, where we lay on a specialized mat to measure how much pressure the materials put on different body parts. The mat then creates a graphic or “map” of the body using color-coded imagery. Areas with minimal pressure buildup are blue and green, and areas with more buildup are yellow and red.

Based on the image below, the Sealy Posturepedic mattress is an excellent option for back sleepers. The pressure map was primarily blue on my back, meaning this bed is a strong choice for sleepers struggling with back pain. However, I saw a bit of yellow on my hips while on my side. Based on this, I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to strict side sleepers or side sleepers with sensitive joints.

Pain Relief

The results of the pressure relief test can indicate whether these mattresses aid in reducing pain in specific areas. I think the Sealy Posturepedic and Tempur-Pedic are good options for most back sleepers. However, side sleepers, especially those with shoulder pain, should go with one of our best mattresses for side sleepers.

Durability

I would say the Tempur-Pedic is about even with the Sealy Posturepedic when it comes to durability. Both beds are constructed with coils, making them less likely to sag prematurely. These mattresses also feature high-quality Tempur-Pedic materials, such as gel-infused memory foam and SmartClimate Dual covers. I think these materials will hold up well for most sleepers, and I would have no problem recommending either mattress to heavier folks, as these individuals will be more prone to sagging over time.

Sealy Posturepedic Customer Service Rating

  • Great: To assess Sealy’s customer service, I tested out their chat feature on the website, which was a chatbot. Frustratingly, this chatbot was not very helpful, as it couldn’t really answer my question, and it also did not give me the option to speak with a real person. However, I still wanted to give Sealy a “great” rating because they do offer phone and email support, as well.  Customer support is offered from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Tempur-Pedic Customer Service Rating

  • Great: I was impressed with Tempur-Pedic’s customer service. The online chat feature does start out with automatic responses, but they’re quite detailed and capable of answering frequently asked questions. You can also easily switch the chat to a live agent if you require further information. They also have customer support and sleep experts available by phone, which is a plus.

Our Review Process

Our Sleepopolis reviewers personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time laying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.
