Avocado Recalls 55,000 Mattress Pads After Dangerous Fire Hazard Risk

If you’ve bought an Avocado mattress pad in the past five years you might want to hear this. The company recently recalled over 55,000 mattress pads after discovering the pads are a fire hazard. 

The news of the recall recently broke after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported the issue in a report last week. 

“The recalled mattress pads violate the mandatory federal flammability regulation for mattress pads, posing a fire hazard,” the commission said. (1) 

There haven’t been any reported injuries or incidents, but the recall advises anyone who has one of the mattress pads to stop using it immediately. 

Which Mattress Pads Are Affected?

If you purchased an organic Avocado Green Mattress pad in the standard pocket or deep pocket version in twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, or California king size, you might have one of the affected mattresses.

The mattress pads affected were sold over a five-year period between January 17, 2019 and March 11, 2024. 

What Should You Do If You Have a Recalled Mattress Pad?

Avocado Green Mattress has voluntarily come forward about the recall and they urge users to stop using the affected mattress pads. 

“Out of an abundance of caution, please stop using your Avocado Cotton Mattress Pad Protector,” said the company in a recent release. (2)

If you have one of the affected mattresses, you can also fill out a registration form on the company’s website and they will send you a new mattress pad that meets safety guidelines at no cost to you, according to Avocado’s release. (2)

To get your replacement mattress pad, you’ll need to cut the mattress pad in half with scissors. You’re going to want to look for the tag that says “do not remove,” and then you’ll write the date and your initials on the pad’s tag. You should then take a picture of the cut-up mattress pad and upload it to the registration form on the company’s website.
