Let’s chat about the similarities and differences in this Amerisleep vs Tempur-Pedic mattress comparison. To do this, I’m going to focus on the Amerisleep 3 and Tempur-Pedic LuxeAdapt models. Both brands have a ton of different mattresses, so we’ll use these two beds to comment on the companies throughout the comparison.
Main Similarities
- Memory Foam – Memory foam is the star player in both mattresses. Though the degree to which it’s utilized differs between the brands, the high-quality material greatly influences (and defines) the feels of these beds.
- Sinkage – Both mattresses are built entirely of foam, so there’s not a lot of bounce going on in either. While the amount of sinkage will vary between the brands, these mattresses don’t feature as much lift as a hybrid or innerspring model would.
- Couples – Both beds have impressively low motion transfer, which will help those who have a restless partner moving about sleep soundly throughout the night.
Main Differences
- Mattress Warranty – Tempur-Pedic only has a 10-year warranty for their mattresses, while Amerisleep offers a 20-year warranty.
- Sleep Trial – Amerisleep has a 100-night sleep trial with the sale of their beds, while Tempur-Pedic offers just a slightly shorter, 90-night sleep trial.

Amerisleep and Tempur-Pedic Mattress Feel Comparison
In this section, I’m going to go over each bed’s unique feel, assessing its firmness, pressure relief, bounce, and any other characteristics that seem particularly pertinent. I’ll also expand my assessment of the Amerisleep line to include bits about all five AS models.
Before I get into my thoughts, though, I want to acknowledge that feel factors of any variety are highly subjective, and can change a lot depending on one’s body size, shape, and weight. Therefore, the way I respond to these mattresses may be different from how you would. For reference, I’m about 5’10”, 190 lbs. and sleep primarily on my stomach.
Amerisleep
AS1 – This is the firmest Amerisleep mattress, and got a whopping 8 out of 10 for me. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it’s clear that this model is quite supportive and firm. That being said, I’d recommend it for stomach or back sleepers who need to feel squarely on top of their structure.
AS2 – The AS2 is only slightly less firm than the AS1, garnering a 7.5 out of 10. Again, I’d recommend it for stomach sleepers or other folks who want an ultra-firm feel.
AS3 – A thicker top layer of memory foam gives the AS3 more of a medium-firm 7 out of 10 feel. It’s got a pleasant balanced vibe, which allows it to strike a satisfying one-two punch of pressure relief and support. Of the Amerisleep models, this one is likely the most accessible to the widest range of sleep styles.
AS4 – The AS4 lands at a 6.5 out of 10 for me, which syncs up perfectly with the industry standard for medium firmness. While it’s got a similar feel to the AS3, its top section of memory foam is an inch thicker, so allows for a slightly deeper sink.
AS5 – And finally, the AS5, the softest Amerisleep mattress. In my opinion, this bed falls at around a 5.5 out of 10, which denotes it as a gentle structure. Of the Amerisleep mattresses, this one is likely the closest in feel to the LuxeAdapt as it provides plenty of room for sinkage and body contouring.
Tempur-Pedic LuxeAdapt
Overall, I gave the LuxeAdapt a 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. When you size up that rating against the industry standard for medium firmness, it’s clear that this bed is super gentle; in fact, it’s one of the softest I’ve ever tested!
I’d attribute this luxurious plush vibe to the massive amount of memory foam you get in the top two layers. As I stretched out on the mattress, I could feel my entire body sinking deeply into these sections, resulting in an intense amount of body contouring. While this did leave me feeling a bit stuck in the bed, the accompanying pressure relief was quite satisfying, especially at my shoulders, hips, and lower back. So, while this vibe might be a tad too gentle for back or stomach sleepers, it might be a nice fit for those who doze primarily (or strictly) on their sides.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Amerisleep and Tempur-Pedic
Everyone is different, so it’s no surprise that we all experience mattresses a bit differently too. How a mattress feels for you will largely depend on your preferred sleeping position and your weight. Below, I’ve outlined how this bed may perform for a variety of body types and sleeping positions. Let’s see how each of these beds may feel for you.
Amerisleep
Back — Most back sleepers will be comfortable on this bed. However, if you suffer from back pain, I’d recommend checking out our best mattresses for back pain for better-suited support.
Side — The cushioning in this bed-in-a-box mattress should offer optimal relief to the pressure points of all side sleepers!
Stomach — This bed is far too soft for these sleepers. I would recommend these sleepers look for something with firmer support when shopping for a new mattress.
Body Weight — Heavier sleepers should be happy on the Amerisleep AS2 rather than the AS3 They will need something with more durability, like a hybrid or innerspring bed. Most light sleepers will do fine on this bed, but lighter stomach sleepers will need something with more hip support.
Tempur-Pedic
Back — I wouldn’t recommend this bed to back sleepers because of its level of sinkage. I think that this bed’s memory foam layers will be too soft to keep these sleepers’ hips lifted and aligned with the shoulders. A firm mattress should perform better for them.
Side — Average side sleepers should really like this bed. The sinkage in this bed should cradle hip and shoulder pressure points quite nicely, thanks to its soft memory foam layers.
Stomach — This bed specifically offers body contouring, which is a feature I wouldn’t recommend to my stomach sleepers. These folks will do better with firm and hybrid mattresses, like one of our best mattresses for stomach sleepers.
Body Weight — The sinkage in this bed makes it a poor choice for heavier people. These sleepers will need something with durability and strong edge support. I’d recommend one of our best mattresses for heavy people instead. I think most lighter sleepers will be comfortable on this bed, but stomach sleepers, again, will need a mattress with a stronger support layer.

Though the two mattresses employ similar materials throughout their constructions, it’s clear that they achieve distinct feels. Below, I’m going to highlight some of my biggest takeaways after peeking beneath these beds’ covers. Time to get into the specs!
Amerisleep
Amerisleep sells five different mattresses: the AS1, AS2, AS3, AS4, and AS5. The beds get softer as the numbers increase, so the AS1 is the firmest in the bunch and the AS5 is the gentlest. Though the models have distinct designs, I’m only going to break down the AS3 below. But don’t worry — I’ll make sure to touch on the other beds as we go along.
- Cover – Things kick off with a polyester cover blended with Celiant, a fiber that some research suggests could help with cooling and active recovery.
- Comfort – Below the cover, you’ll land on a 3” section of the brand’s Bio-Pur Comfort Foam. This material is utilized in all Amerisleep mattresses and is most similar to memory foam in how it hugs and contours the body. However, it differs slightly from the traditional memory foam in that it’s built with an open-cell structure to encourage airflow and breathability. This helps to mitigate some of the overheating tendencies of the material while still allowing for plenty of deep sinkage.
- Transition – Up next, you’ll land on a transition layer of the brand’s Affinity Foam. This material is most similar to poly foam in that it has a quick response to pressure and is firmer than the memory foam above it. The main function of this section is to help ease the sleeper into the firm base below.
- Support – The main support system of the AS3 is composed of 7” of Bio-Core Foam. Like high-density poly foam, this material is ultra sturdy and supportive, helping to bolster the layers above it to prevent too much sinkage into the mattress. Therefore, the AS3 could be a good pick for combo sleepers, as its material make-up strikes a pleasant balance between pressure relief and support.
Tempur-Pedic
As with Amerisleep, Tempur-Pedic sells a lot of different products, but I’m going to focus exclusively on the brand’s LuxeAdapt model below.
- Cover – The cover is made of a polyester and Phase Change Material blend. Phase Change Material is woven with special fibers that make it cool to the touch, so helps to regulate temperatures throughout the night.
- Comfort – Built with the brand’s special Tempur-ES foam, the comfort layer has a slow response to pressure that allows for deep sinkage. Like memory foam, the material here is incredibly gentle and is likely to conform to the unique curves of your body for pressure relief. I can already tell this mattress could be a great fit for side sleepers.
- Contour – Directly below the comfort layer, you’ll find a contour layer composed of the brand’s Tempur-APR+ foam. Featuring a slightly tighter cell construction than the ES foam, the memory foam in this section was designed for even more intense body contouring. By doubling down on the memory foam in these top two layers, the LuxeAdapt sets a much plusher tone than we get in the AS3.
- Support – To cushion the soft memory foam layers up top, Tempur-Pedic has slipped a layer of high-density poly foam into the base. This section is meant to give the mattress some shape and bolster the sleeper against the sinkage of the top layers. However, it doesn’t do too much to alter the bed’s soft feel.
