Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid Mattress Video Review
Is the Sealy Posturepedic a Good Mattress for You?
To start off, we put each of our mattresses through something called a “Rest Test,” where we lie down on the bed for an uninterrupted 15-minute power nap. This gives us a big-picture assessment of how it performs before we get into some of our more specific tests. Here’s how my colleague Amelia felt napping on the Sealy Posturepedic mattress:
“The Sealy Posturepedic offers a really comfortable feel. I felt well-supported while lying on this bed, but also received plenty of comfy contouring. I think this bed is comfortable for both back and side sleeping!”
Along with the Rest Test, I want to offer some quick recommendations for the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid before we fully dive into this review since different factors, such as your body type and sleeping position, will determine whether a mattress will work for you.
Who I Recommend the Sealy Posturepedic Mattress For
- Back sleepers: Back sleepers generally need a mix of comfort and support. This mattress offers both, with excellent lumbar support.
- Side sleepers: Side sleepers need a soft mattress that contours their hip and shoulder, and this mattress performs decently.
- Couples: This mattress has good edge support, is easy to move around on, tested well for motion isolation, and has decent cooling.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Sealy Posturepedic Mattress For
- Folks after a super soft feel: Although we tested the Soft model (there is also a Firm model), we still found it to be closer to being medium-firm. Check out our top picks for best soft mattress.
- Pillow top lovers: This mattress does not have a plush pillow top, but instead features a flat surface. If this is you, you may benefit from reading through our choices of the best pillow top mattresses.
- Memory foam lovers: If you enjoy the super soft feel of memory foam where you sink deep into the mattress layers, this hybrid will likely keep you too lifted. Memory foam lovers can check out our selected picks for best memory foam mattress.
How Firm is the Sealy Posturepedic Mattress?
The firmness of a mattress is helpful for determining how the mattress feels. Softer mattresses often cushion and cradle the body more, while firmer mattresses may offer a stiffer feel and more support. You can learn more about mattress firmness by reading our mattress firmness guide.
We test the firmness of a mattress by polling a range of people in the office, and averaging the results to determine the overall feel.
We rate firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being extremely firm. On this scale, 6.5 aligns with the industry standard for a medium-firm mattress. We tested the Soft model of the Sealy Posturepedic, but we still consider it to feel in the medium-firm ballpark, rating it as 6 out of 10. Ultimately, it is softer than average, though. When lying on this mattress, your body lies more on top of it than sunken in.
While the Sealy Posturepedic may be on the softer side of medium-firm, it is not a super soft mattress. The gel-infused memory foam contours around the body, but you do not sink into the layers. The coil layer provides a firmer feel as well. Based on the support and contouring nature of the mattress, I would recommend it for back sleepers looking for lumbar support.

Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Performance
Now that we’ve covered the firmness, let’s dive into some of the tests I performed on the Sealy Posturepedic mattress.
Testing the Sealy Posturepedic Mattress in Different Sleeping Positions
All sleepers are different, and whether a mattress is comfortable can depend on the support needs of a person’s body weight and sleeping position. For example, a mattress that is comfortable for back sleepers may be too firm for side sleepers.
Is the Sealy Posturepedic a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – This mattress is a great option for light back sleepers, maintaining spinal alignment and offering some lumbar support.
- Light Side Sleepers – This mattress should be decently comfortable for light side sleepers.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – The Soft model of this mattress is decent for light stomach sleepers, but the Firm model may be a better choice.
Is the Sealy Posturepedic a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130 to 250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – This mattress is a great option for average weight back sleepers, maintaining spinal alignment and offering some lumbar support.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – This mattress should be comfortable for average weight side sleepers, as it provides enough cushioning for the shoulder and hip.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – The Soft model of this mattress is okay for average weight stomach sleepers, but we recommend the Firm model instead for better hip support.
Is the Sealy Posturepedic a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – The Soft model of this mattress may be too soft, so we recommend the Firm model for heavy back sleepers to ensure they aren’t sinking too deeply into the material.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – This mattress should be comfortable for heavy side sleepers, as it is soft enough for pressure relief, but still very supportive.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – The Soft model of this mattress would not be comfortable for heavy stomach sleepers. We recommend the Firm model, or to check out our guide to the best mattresses for heavy people.
Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Pain Relief Performance
When lying on a mattress, it creates pressure points in certain areas depending on your sleeping position. Alleviating tension at the shoulders, hips, or lower back as needed can increase comfort and, paired with proper support, can even alleviate pain.
We test the pain relief of a mattress by looking at a pressure map, which visually shows all the areas of high and low pressure on the body. When looking at our pressure map, areas of high pressure are orange or red. Areas where there is less pressure on the body are green or blue.
Back Pain – This mattress performed great for back sleepers, with almost no pressure around the lower back. Side sleepers, however, may experience some discomfort in the lower back.
Shoulder Pain – This mattress creates little to no pressure at the shoulder. Sleepers should be comfortable around the shoulders whether sleeping on their side or back.
Hip Pain – This mattress performed great for back sleepers, with very little pressure around the hips. Side sleepers should be comfortable, but those with hip pain or sensitive hips may prefer a mattress with more pressure relief in this area.
Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Performance for Couples
Sleeping on the same mattress as another person can reduce space, add body heat, and more. Because of this, couples generally prefer a combination of motion isolation, bounciness, edge support, and cooling for proper comfort. Let’s go over each category in more detail below.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer describes the amount of motion translated from one side of the bed to the other. Most couples look for mattresses that isolate this motion, allowing one person to move around without waking the other. To test the Sealy Posturepedic’s motion isolation, I dropped a 10-pound steel ball from three different heights (four, eight, and 12 inches) and measured the motion with a seismometer. The bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
This mattress is very bouncy, but surprisingly good at isolating that motion. Smaller movements should not be felt from one side of the bed to the other. Overall, these are good motion isolation results.
Sex
Couples want to be able to move around on their mattress, making the bounce and responsiveness of the layers an important feature. The Sealy Posturepedic has a bit of sinkage, but is very bouncy and the foams quickly reform. It’s fairly easy to move around on this mattress, and you shouldn’t feel stuck in the layers. This makes the mattress a good option for couples or people with mobility issues.
Cooling
Cooling is very important for couples, especially hot sleepers or those in warmer climates. The added heat of another person can cause overheating much more easily. This mattress features cooling technology with a coil base with lots of airflow, and the gel-infused upper layer prevents heat-trapping. While the upper layers aren’t cool to the touch, the airflow and gel should be enough to wick away extra heat.
Edge Support
With two people in the same bed, it is more likely that they’ll sprawl out and use the edges of the mattress. Proper edge support will allow a person to sit or lie along the edge of a mattress without sinking downward or falling. If there is enough edge support, it can increase the usable space of a mattress.
This mattress sinks a bit while sitting at the edge. However, it is fairly supportive while lying near the edge and the overall edge support is good.
What is the Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Made Of?
The Sealy Posturepedic mattress has gel memory foam and a coil base, intended to create a thoughtful balance between comfort and support. The gel memory foam should relieve pressure points on the body, while the coil layer provides support. The gel in the comfort layer and the airflow through the coils should help to wick away heat while you sleep. The materials are CertiPUR-US certified.
Sealy also offers the Posturepedic in two firmness models. We tested the Soft model, but there is also a firmer option.
Below is a full breakdown of the mattress layers and Posturepedic Technology.
Cover – The very top layer is the SealyChill™ cooling cover, which is an antibacterial knit cover. The mattress cover features Surface-Guard Technology™ to protect from buildup of allergens and bacteria.
Comfort Layer – The comfort layer contains gel-infused memory foam. The ComfortSense™ Gel Memory Foam conforms to your body and should help relieve pressure where needed.
Transition Layer – The transition layer is another foam, intended to provide a smooth feel between the soft comfort layer and the sturdy coils below.
Foundation Layer – The bottom layer contains encased coils for airflow, support, and durability. Sealy also says there is extra support around the edge of the mattress via its DuraFlex Coil Edge system.

My Final Thoughts about Sealy Posturepedic Mattress
Alright, we’ve almost made it to the end. But before we say our goodbyes, I want to give some of my final thoughts on the Sealy Posturepedic mattress.
My favorite things about Sealy Posturepedic mattress
I think the Posturepedic is a great mattress and value for the price. It is supportive and versatile, being comfortable for most back and side sleepers to get a good night’s sleep. It may be comfy for a lot of combo sleepers as well since it’s so easy to move around on. Couples should also enjoy the attention to motion isolation, edge support, responsiveness, and cooling features of this mattress. Lastly, I appreciate that there’s a Soft and Firm model so you can choose the best one for your comfort level needs.
My Sealy Posturepedic mattress complaints
This mattress is lightly contouring, but also has a bouncy and responsive hybrid performance. So those who enjoy very soft mattresses with high sinkage may not enjoy the more buoyant feel of this mattress. On the other hand, those after the feel of traditional innerspring mattresses may find it too buoyant. We tested the Soft model, but we felt it had more of a medium-soft to medium-firm feel. We recommend checking out our roundup of best memory foam mattresses to find a different mattress that meets their needs. Customer reviews also noted that the mattress is heavy, which made it difficult for some sleepers to tuck in the sheets.
How Much Does the Sealy Posturepedic Cost?
The cost of a mattress is another really important component for your shopping journey. See our pricing chart below for the cost for each size of this mattress. All prices are listed before any discount.

Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Vs
It can also be important to compare mattresses, or any product, to other products and retailers on the market. This can give an idea of current pricing, modern features, and the general standards of the product field. Here, I will compare the Posturepedic to two other beds from different mattress brands on the market.

FAQs
Are smart beds expensive?
Yes, smart beds are expensive. However, luxury mattresses that are not “smart” can also be very expensive, so you will need to consider what you really want out of your bed and your budget to decide if a smart bed is worth the price.
Are smart beds better than other beds?
Not necessarily. Smart beds are a great option for couples, people with pain, or people with specific needs, but they are not ideal for everyone. Some people may still really enjoy a traditional mattress, or even prefer it. Consider the things I have mentioned in this review to decide if a smart bed is ready for you.
Do smart beds help you sleep better?
They certainly can! Smart beds can stay cooler than other beds, adjust to your needs, and help you find a position that is just right. In this way, smart beds can help you get really good sleep. However, so can traditional mattresses, so you will just need to think about what you need most out of your mattress.
What are the cons of smart beds?
Smart beds can be really expensive and sometimes they require unique bases, bed frames, and other technology to make them work properly, so they may not be a good option for people shopping on a budget or not looking for tech savvy bed.
