Now let’s talk about how these mattresses feel. Here at Sleepopolis, we use a firmness scale from 1 to 10 to rate a mattress’s firmness level, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. We use 6.5 as a standard for medium-firm.
Puffy Cloud
We rated the Puffy Cloud as a 6 out of 10, meaning it is just softer than average. It offers a really soft feel initially, as you sink into the upper foam layers. But you should still feel some support from the base layer below.
Puffy Royal
We also rated the Puffy Royal as a 6 out of 10, meaning it is also softer than average. It has a similar feel to the Puffy Cloud, where you’ll feel comfort from the upper foam layers, and support from the coils below. It doesn’t offer super deep sinkage, but you should experience some pressure relief.
Comparing What it’s Like to Sleep on the Puffy Cloud and the Puffy Royal
As I mentioned before, mattresses will feel and perform differently for different types of sleepers. Two of the main categories to consider are primary sleeping position and body type. Depending whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach, you’ll have different requirements for pressure relief and support. And depending on your body weight, you will also have different support needs. Heavy people who weigh 250 pounds or more tend to need more support than light or average weight people do.
Puffy Cloud
Back — The Puffy Cloud is a good choice for back sleepers, as it provides a nice mix of comfort and support to maintain spinal alignment. Back sleepers who need pressure relief, such as around the shoulders or lower back, should especially enjoy the Puffy Cloud.
Side — The Puffy Cloud is also a good option for side sleepers, as it provides plenty of pressure relief and sinkage around the shoulder and hip.
Stomach — Because of its soft feel and sinkage, the Puffy Cloud is not a great option for stomach sleepers. The soft feel causes the hips to sink in, which can lead to lower back pain over time. Stomach sleepers tend to need a firm mattress, so I’d recommend checking out our best mattresses for stomach sleepers or our best firm mattresses instead.
Body Weight — The Puffy Cloud should work well for light to average weight people, but unfortunately is not supportive enough for heavy people, who weigh 250 pounds or more. I’d recommend checking out some of our best mattresses for heavy people for better options.
Puffy Royal
Back — The Puffy Royal is a great choice for back sleepers, as it provides a soft, pressure-relieving feel up top, but plenty of support from the coils below. It also has a zoned support foam layer, which helps to promote spinal alignment.
Side — The Puffy Royal is a good choice for side sleepers, as it provides some good pressure relief around the shoulder and hip.
Stomach — Like the Puffy Cloud, the Puffy Royal is not a great choice for stomach sleepers, as it is too soft to keep their hips lifted up and out of the structure. The one exception may be lightweight sleepers, who weigh 130 pounds or less, as they won’t sink into the material as much. Overall though, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Body Weight — Like the Puffy Cloud, the Puffy Royal should work well for light to average weight people, but is not a great choice for heavy people, who weigh 250 pounds or more. While it is more supportive than the Puffy Cloud, thanks to the coils, it still isn’t as supportive as many of the mattresses specifically designed for heavy folks.

Puffy Cloud
Cover: The Puffy Cloud has a hypoallergenic, stain-resistant, polyester-blend cover. This mattress cover can be removed and machine washed.
Comfort Layer: The top layer is a 2-inch section of gel-infused memory foam, which Puffy calls “Cooling Cloud foam.”
Transition Layer: Then is a 2-inch layer of responsive polyurethane foam, which has a firmer feel than the comfort layer. Puffy calls this “Climate Comfort foam.” This layer eases the sleeper between the cushier comfort layer and the firmer base layer.
Base Layer: Finally, there’s a 6-inch support layer of high-density poly foam. This firm core support foam provides the structure of the mattress.

Cover: The Puffy Royal has the same polyester-blend, hypoallergenic, and stain-resistant cover as the Puffy Cloud, which can be removed and washed.
Comfort Layer: The first foam layer is a 1.5-inch section of gel-infused memory foam.

- The Puffy Lux is another hybrid mattress, using a combination of foams and coils. It is a very soft mattress — softer than either the Puffy Cloud or Puffy Royal. We rated its firmness level as 5.5 out of 10.
- Out of these three mattress models, the Puffy Lux offers the most contouring and pressure relief, making it a very good choice for side sleepers.
- However, it isn’t the best in terms of responsiveness — because of the deep contouring, you’ll really sink into this bed. That could make it hard for combination sleepers to move around on the bed.
