In Greek mythology, Atlas was a titan who literally carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. Casper’s latest offering, the Atlas Hybrid Mattress, promises to offer the same support to sleepers with its combination of premium memory foam and individually pocketed springs.
But does this mattress live up to its namesake? I took the Atlas Hybrid to the Sleepopolis lab to see if it could handle the weight of our expectations.
In this review, I’ll put the Atlas Hybrid to the test and examine everything from its construction and feel to its sleep performance. Read on to see where this mattress flexes its muscles and where it might fall short.

The Atlas Hybrid mattress is a new hybrid mattress from Casper. This mattress is 10 inches thick and features a soft, stretchy cover, two layers of Casper’s high-quality signature memory foam, and a flex coil support layer for extra responsiveness and support.
While testing the Casper Atlas Hybrid, I found that it offers decent pressure relief around the shoulders. Its flex coil support layer also helps promote airflow and keeps things cool.
I think most lightweight and average back and side sleepers should have no trouble falling asleep on this bed. However, I would not recommend this mattress to couples, heavier sleepers, or those with mobility issues because of its less-than-stellar edge support.

Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress Sleepopolis Score
What Is the Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress Made Of?
The Casper Atlas Hybrid is a 10-inch mattress that combines Casper’s high-quality signature memory foam and durable coils for added support. Let’s take a closer look at each of its layers.
Cover – The Casper Atlas Hybrid’s cover layer has a stretchy, soft-knit cover designed to keep you cool and comfortable throughout the night. When trying out the Atlas Hybrid, I thought the cover felt soft without being overly plush, but I wouldn’t say it felt breathable or cool.
Comfort Layer – Next, the Atlas Hybrid comfort layer features Casper’s signature memory foam to provide pressure relief and support. During testing, I found that this mattress did a good job of relieving pressure around my lower back and hips. However, I felt more pressure buildup in my shoulders, so I probably wouldn’t recommend this bed to strict side sleepers with sensitive joints.
Transition Layer – The Casper Atlas Hybrid’s transition layer uses high-quality foam to reduce motion transfer. This layer bridges the gap between the signature foam and flex coils for added comfort. Unfortunately, my colleague and I found that this bed’s motion transfer suffers because of how short the bed is overall. In other words, you’ll likely feel your partner or pet’s movements on this mattress.
Support Layer – Finally, the support layer consists of flex coils for additional support and improved durability. After trying out this bed for the first time, I had to look inside the mattress to confirm that the coils were actually in there. To me, this mattress felt more like a traditional memory foam bed than it does a hybrid model. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I found that the Atlas Hybrid lacks the same robust support and responsiveness found in other hybrid beds.
Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress Firmness
As with any feel factor, firmness is a subjective measure that can change depending on one’s body size, shape, and weight. In other words, my body is bound to differ from yours. To avoid any bias and determine how firm this bed actually is, I invited my colleague into the studio to test it out with me.
After testing the Casper Atlas Hybrid mattress, my colleague and I decided it was a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. For reference, 6.5 or medium-firm is the industry standard. We found that the soft-knit cover and signature memory foam provided more sinkage than a standard medium-firm mattress. The coils in this mattress are also very short compared to other hybrid beds, meaning you won’t get as much support from them in this Casper model.
When laying on the Atlas Hybrid, I felt like my body was more in the bed than on top of it. I felt a good amount of sinkage around my hips and lower back, but I wouldn’t say I felt cradled. My colleague had a similar experience, noting that she expected more support from the flex coils.

Is the Casper Atlas Hybrid a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – This bed should feel comfortable to lightweight back sleepers. This mattress will likely feel medium-firm to these sleepers, meaning they should feel more support around their lower lumbar area.
- Light Side Sleepers – Lightweight side sleepers may find this mattress too firm for their liking. These sleepers will need something with better body contouring to cradle their hips and shoulders.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – This mattress should work for lightweight stomach sleepers. The Casper Atlas Hybrid should be firm enough to keep their bodies uplifted and spines aligned as they sleep.
Is the Casper Atlas Hybrid a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – This mattress should work for most average back sleepers. However, I wouldn’t recommend this bed to those with chronic back pain. These sleepers will need something with extra support around their lower back.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – This bed could work for average side sleepers who struggle with hip pain. Since this bed offers the most sinkage around the hips, these sleepers should get the pressure relief they need from this mattress. I would not recommend this mattress to side sleepers with shoulder pain, as we saw more pressure buildup in our shoulders during testing.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – As someone who falls into this category, I wouldn’t recommend this to strict stomach sleepers. When testing this mattress, I felt my hips sink in a little too much. Stomach sleepers need something supportive enough to keep their hips elevated at night so their spines stay aligned.
Is the Casper Atlas Hybrid a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I would not recommend this mattress to heavy back sleepers. These sleepers need something firmer to keep their bodies elevated and supported at night. The Casper Atlas Hybrid’s springs are too short to provide ample support to heavy sleepers.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – Similarly, heavy side sleepers will not get the cushioning they need around their joints on the Atlas Hybrid mattress. These sleepers will likely sink through the memory foam and feel the coils pressing against their hips and shoulders.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – Heavy stomach sleepers will likely feel their hips sink too far into this mattress. These sleepers need a more supportive mattress to keep their hips elevated and spines in alignment through the night.
Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress Performance
After spending time with each mattress to get a sense of its firmness and feel, I perform other tests to help readers get an objective view of what sleeping on these mattresses every night is like.
I ran tests on the Casper Atlas Hybrid mattress to see how it performs in motion transfer, cooling, and more. Read on to see what I found.
Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress Pain Relief Performance
When I talk about pressure relief, I’m referring to a bed’s ability to ease tension at pressure points at the hips, shoulders, and back. Folks suffering from shoulder or hip pain need to sleep on a mattress that provides good pressure relief. These beds feel gentler around those sensitive pressure areas.
To test the Casper Atlas Hybrid’s pressure-relieving abilities, my colleague and I placed a specialized mat across the mattress and laid on the mat in different sleeping positions. The mat then uses thermal imaging to show how much pressure builds on our bodies.
It changes from blue and green for low pressure (with blue signaling no pressure at all) to orange and red for high pressure (with red being the highest pressure). The three areas we cover are back pain, shoulder pain, and hip pain.
We found that the Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress is a solid choice for back sleepers, as the graphic is primarily blue and green. In other words, there was minimal pressure buildup on our backs. However, we saw the most green around our lower backs, meaning that a small amount of pressure builds up in this area while laying down on it. For that reason, I would not recommend this mattress to sleepers with chronic back pain.
The Casper Atlas Hybrid performed almost as well when we switched to our sides to see how it would work for hip pain and shoulder pain. However, we both noticed more pressure buildup on our shoulders, as indicated by the yellow spots in the graphic below.
The Atlas Hybrid showed the best pressure relief performance around our hips, which makes sense, considering we felt the most sinkage in this area during our tests.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer measures how much movement you will likely detect from one side of the bed to the other. If you sleep with a restless pet or have a partner who tends to switch between sleeping positions throughout the night, you’ll want a bed that can effectively trap motion. Prioritizing low motion transfer, or what we also call good motion isolation, can help you sleep soundly, no matter who’s moving around next to you.
Human Test
For the first motion transfer test, I lie on the mattress with a colleague, switch between different sleeping positions, and see how much they feel me from their side of the bed. During this test, my colleague and I take turns moving around on the bed while the other stays still to estimate how much motion someone might detect while sleeping with a partner or pet.
When testing the Casper Atlas Hybrid, we could feel everything the other person was doing. I could feel my colleague get in and out of bed and change between sleeping positions from my side.
Water Test
The next test is the “water test.” For this test, my colleague and I place a full glass of water on the mattress and see how much the liquid moves around with us. If the water has zero to little movement, it is safe to say that the mattress has low motion transfer, which is what you want to see.
During this test, we noticed some motion when getting in and out of bed. There was even more movement in the glass when we took turns rolling around and switching between different sleeping positions.
Based on these observations, I would say that people with restless partners will feel them moving around at night and might want to look into a mattress with better motion isolation.
Seismometer Test
The last motion transfer test is our seismometer test. This test involves dropping a 10-pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches, and 12 inches, then measuring the disturbance it causes. In this case, the bigger the lines on the graph, the bigger the disturbance and the higher the motion transfer.
As we suspected, the graph above shows a good amount of motion at the impact site that travels to the other side of the bed.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness refers to how quickly a mattress reverts to its original shape after applying pressure. Memory foam usually has a low response to pressure, while hybrid mattresses with coils tend to have a high response to pressure. Combination sleepers who frequently change positions in the middle of the night often prefer a responsive bed because it allows them to move around without much effort.
In my opinion, the Casper Atlas Hybrid is surprisingly unresponsive for a hybrid mattress. While it wasn’t difficult for me to change between different sleeping positions, it wasn’t as easy as other hybrid and innerspring mattresses. Lightweight and average sleepers shouldn’t have too much trouble switching between different positions. However, I could see heavier sleepers finding it more difficult on this bed, as they will likely sink further into the memory foam. Overall, I would not recommend this mattress to combination sleepers.
Cooling
Many factors determine how cool a mattress stays when you sleep on it. The materials inside the mattress largely contribute to whether it traps heat or releases it. The Casper Atlas Hybrid’s flex coil support layer helps prevent it from absorbing too much heat.
I tested the Casper Atlas Hybrid mattress with a thermal gun, a device that uses color-coded imaging to measure how much and how quickly a mattress heats up when someone lies down on it.
If it heats more than 15 degrees Fahrenheit, I consider it to have poor cooling capabilities. 10 to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, 5 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, and less than 5 degrees indicates excellent cooling.
After taking turns laying on the Atlas Hybrid with my colleague, I saw the temperature go up about 7 degrees, meaning it should keep most sleepers cool at night. However, I would recommend one of our best cooling mattresses over this one to people who sleep extra-hot.
Edge Support
I also tested the edge support on the Casper Atlas Hybrid mattress. Edge support determines if you can sleep on the edge of the bed without feeling the side of the mattress collapsing under your weight. It can also help you assess its durability and whether it may sag over time.
I noticed the most sinkage while laying down on the edge of the bed. At times, I even felt like I was going to fall off. Sitting on the edge was a little better; the sinkage was still there, but I didn’t feel like I was slipping off of the mattress while sitting down.
The worst sinkage was on the corner, where I felt the bed sink all the way down to its coil support layer.
When I measured the sinkage with a yardstick, the layers sank 2 inches when applying weight to the edge. This might not seem like much, but the Atlas Hybrid is only 10 inches tall, meaning the sinkage is more noticeable on this mattress.
Overall, I don’t think the edge support on the Atlas Hybrid would work for individuals and couples who prefer to use the entire surface area of their mattress. I would not recommend this mattress for people with mobility issues, as the corners sink too much for them to easily get out of bed.
Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress Performance For Couples
I don’t think the Atlas Hybrid mattress is the best choice for couples who use the entire surface area of the mattress due to its subpar edge support. However, I could see this bed potentially working for couples who gravitate toward the center of the bed and want something with a memory foam feel.
The Casper Atlas Hybrid is responsive enough for light and average-weight combination sleepers or couples who move around frequently at night. However, I would not recommend this bed to heavier couples and people with partners who are easily disturbed. Based on our motion transfer test results, these sleepers will likely feel their partner’s movements and wake up at night.

Now that we’ve checked out everything from the Caser Atlas Hybrid’s construction to how it feels, it’s time to answer the most important question: is it a buy? Check out my final thoughts to help you decide!
Who I Recommend the Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress For
- Most lightweight sleepers should enjoy sleeping on the Casper Atlas Hybrid mattress. This bed will likely feel firmer to them and give them the support they need to stay comfortable all night.
- This bed is responsive and bouncy enough for light and average-weight combination sleepers. These sleepers shouldn’t have any issues switching between different positions at night.
- I would recommend this bed to lightweight and average side sleepers with shoulder pain. During the pressure relief test, my colleague and I found that this bed did a good job of relieving tension around the shoulders.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress For
- I would not recommend this mattress to individuals with mobility issues because of its lackluster edge support.
- Similarly, I think couples who prefer to use the entire surface area of the mattress will have a hard time getting comfortable on the Casper Atlas Hybrid mattress.

Casper Atlas Hybrid Mattress Vs
Now that we’ve gone over every inch of the Casper Atlas Hybrid mattress, let’s take a minute to compare it to some of its biggest competition from other brands.
Casper Atlas Hybrid vs Saatva
The Casper Atlas Hybrid combines foams and coils, while the Saatva is primarily an innerspring mattress. The Saatva comes in three firmness options, while the Casper Atlas Hybrid comes in one. We found that the Luxury Firm version of the Saatva Classic was a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale or a touch firmer than the Atlas Hybrid.
- Price: The Saatva Classic is pricier than the Casper Atlas Hybrid. A queen-sized Saatva Classic starts at $2,095 before any discounts.
- Sleeping position: The Saatva classic is an excellent choice for back, stomach, and combination sleepers because its two layers of springs offer ample support. However, the Atlas Hybrid is better for strict side sleepers because its soft memory foam provides more cushioning around sensitive joints and pressure points.
- Cooling: Both mattresses do a decent job at cooling because of their pocketed springs. However, the Atlas Hybrid performed just a bit better (a little under 2 degrees) than the Saatva Classic during testing.
- Body weight: Lightweight sleepers might find the Saatva Classic too firm around their joints, and heavier sleepers will sink through the Atlas Hybrid because it’s too soft. Both beds are solid options for average sleepers.

Patty, Saatva customerCasper Atlas Hybrid vs Leesa Hybrid
Leesa is another popular bedding brand with a wide range of mattresses, pillows, and other accessories. The Leesa Hybrid has a similar feel to the Casper Atlas Hybrid, as it is also a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The Leesa Hybrid is a bit more expensive than the Casper Atlas Hybrid. A queen-sized Leesa Hybrid mattress will set you back $1,999 before any discounts, which is $800 more than the Casper Atlas Hybrid.
- Sleeping position: Like the Casper Atlas Hybrid, the Leesa Hybrid mattress is a solid choice for side, back, and combination sleepers. However, I would say the Casper Atlas Hybrid is a better option for side sleepers with sensitive shoulders when comparing the pressure relief test results of both beds.
- Cooling: The Leesa Hybrid did an above-average job at cooling when we previously tested it, placing it just above the Casper Atlas Hybrid in this category.
- Body weight: The Leesa Hybrid is a great option for average weight sleepers, while the Atlas Hybrid Mattress offers better pressure relief and support to lightweight sleepers. I would not recommend either bed to heavier sleepers.

Casper Atlas Hybrid vs WinkBed
The WinkBed is a mighty 13.5 inch hybrid mattress that contains gel-infused memory foam and pocketed coils. The original WinkBed is a bit firmer than the Casper Atlas Hybrid. We gave the WinkBed a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The WinkBed starts at $1,799 before any discounts, which is $600 more than the Atlas Hybrid.
- Sleeping position: The WinkBed excels at relieving back pain and is firm enough for most average stomach sleepers. Since the Casper Atlas Hybrid is a little softer than the WinkBed, strict side sleepers, especially those with shoulder pain, might find it more comfortable to rest on.
- Cooling: The WinkBed outperformed the Casper Atlas Hybrid during testing in the cooling category, likely because its gel-infused memory foams and many pocketed coils help turn down and promote airflow.
- Body weight: The WinkBed is a better fit for heavier sleepers because it is thick enough to prevent them from sinking too far into the bed. Lightweight sleepers will likely be more comfortable on the Atlas Hybrid, as the WinkBed might feel too firm. Both beds are good options for average-weight sleepers.

Absolutely the greatest mattress I've ever slept on. It is soft yet firm in the right spots. Quality is on another level. You get what you pay for.
Sobhana P., WinkBeds customerOther Models from Casper
The Casper mattress doesn’t just face stiff competition from other brands. It also has to compete with other beds in the Casper line. So, let’s go over some of the other popular Casper mattresses.
Casper Atlas Hybrid vs Casper Original
Casper’s original mattress is an all-foam bed that has a slightly firm feel that works for a variety of sleepers. Despite its pure memory foam construction, the Casper Original shares many similarities with the Atlas Hybrid like its soft and stretchy knit cover and signature Airscape foam. The Casper Original mattress is a bit firmer than the Atlas Hybrid, coming in at 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The Atlas Hybrid is a bit cheaper than the Casper Original. A queen-sized Atlas Hybrid starts at $1,199 before any discounts, while a queen-sized Casper Original is $1,499.
- Sleeping position: The Casper Original is great for individuals suffering from back pain thanks to its zoned support layers, while the Atlas Hybrid is a better option for side sleepers with shoulder pain.
- Cooling: The Atlas Hybrid outperformed the Casper Original by 1 degree on our cooling test, likely because its flex coil support system helps promote airflow throughout the mattress.
- Body weight: I would not recommend either bed to heavier sleepers, especially strict stomach sleepers. Both mattresses are better for lightweight and average sleepers.

Paul, Casper customerCasper Atlas Hybrid vs Casper Original Hybrid
The Casper Original Hybrid mattress is Casper’s first hybrid mattress. This mattress shares a similar construction to the Atlas Hybrid, combining both memory foam and innersprings to achieve the perfect balance of body contouring, support, and pressure relief. However, the Casper Original Hybrid is firmer than the Atlas Hybrid at 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, or medium-firm.
- Price: The Casper Original hybrid is one of Casper’s more premium offerings, which is reflected in its price. The original Casper Hybrid bed starts at $1,999 for a queen-sized bed, or $800 more than the Atlas Hybrid.
- Sleeping position: The Casper Original Hybrid is better for back sleepers and combination sleepers. Side sleepers, especially those with shoulder pain, will likely be more comfortable on the Atlas Hybrid.
- Cooling: Both beds performed similarly on our cooling test because of their similar construction.
- Body weight: Neither bed is a great option for heavier sleepers, especially stomach sleepers. However, lightweight and average sleepers should find both beds comfortable.

Casper Atlas Hybrid vs Casper Wave Hybrid Snow
The Casper Wave Hybrid Snow is Casper’s most supportive mattress paired with its special Snow Technology for continuous cooling. Like the Casper Atlas Hybrid, this mattress features a combination of memory foam and coils for added support and durability. However, the Wave Hybrid Snow features HeatDelete bands to help sleepers stay cool throughout the night. Both mattresses are a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The Wave Hybrid Snow is one of Casper’s more expensive models. A queen-sized Wave Hybrid Snow starts at $3,499 before any discounts, which is over $2,000 more than the Atlas Hybrid.
- Sleeping position: The Wave Hybrid Snow is an excellent bed for most back sleepers and side sleepers, providing targeted support and contouring at just the right areas. However, the Atlas Hybrid mattress will likely be a better option for side sleepers with shoulder pain. I would not recommend either bed to stomach sleepers.
- Cooling: If Snow in the name didn’t give it away, the Wave Hybrid Snow outperforms the Atlas Hybrid here by a good margin. Casper’s signature HeatDelete bands and QuickCool cover do a fantastic job of preventing any overheating.
- Body weight: TK.

Our Review Process
At Sleepopolis, our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time laying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.
