The Intention Hybrid is the latest mattress from Diamond, an industry vet that’s been in the bedding game for 80 years. Of the brand’s four bed-in-a-box models, the Intention is the softest, combining the bounce of pocketed coils with gentle poly foam to create a sleep that’s as supportive as it is pressure-relieving.
But does the mattress actually pull off this lofty aim? That’s what we’re here to find out! In this review, I’ll walk you through the bed’s construction, analyze its feel, and wrap things up with some expert recs for who I think might like it most. So, without further ado, let’s dive in to the Diamond Intention Hybrid! Short on time? Skip on over to our review summary.

Brand Snapshot
As I mentioned above, Diamond Mattress has been an industry leader for decades, though it only recently started dabbling in the bed-in-a-box market. At the moment, it offers four different hybrid models: the Faith, Transformation, Grateful, and Intention. The manufacturer also sells pillows, sheets, mattress protectors, foundations, and adjustable bases.
But we’re not going to be getting into all these different products today, so let’s reset our intentions and get back to the star of the hour!
What is the Intention Hybrid Made of?
The Intention is a standard hybrid in that it combines a tall section of pocketed coils with layers of foam to provide a balance between pressure relief and support. What’s unique about the mattress, however, is the cooling tech infused into both the cover and top layer of poly foam, which we’ll explore in more depth below.
Cover – The cover of the Intention is made from a special CoolTouch temperature regulating fabric, which the brand claims can actively move excess heat from the body. It’s also quilted with foam, so provides some immediate comfort and relief.
Comfort – Beneath the cover, you’ll land on a section of graphite-infused poly foam. This material has a slightly quick response to pressure, which makes for a light, lively, and soft layer. Though poly foam can sometimes sleep warm, the graphite infusion helps to absorb and dissipate body heat, working in tandem with the CoolTouch cover to regulate temperatures throughout the night. This layer is also convoluted, which aids in the cooling game by encouraging airflow.
Contour – Next up, you’ll land on a transitional layer of poly foam. This section mostly serves to ease sleepers into the firmer section of pocketed coils below.
Support – And finally, the pocketed coil system! This section makes up the bulk of the bed’s construction and is firm, bouncy, and supportive. Though this kind of system is fairly typical of most hybrids on the market, Diamond has individualized its own by adding firmer coils in the middle of the bed to support the hips. This brings a little extra lift to the structure, which could be a big plus for combo sleepers.
Thoughts: Right away, I can tell this is going to be a gentle yet buoyant bed. This kind of feel could work for a lot of sleepers, but is perhaps most well-suited for side/combo sleepers, who need to easily change positions throughout the night.
How Does the Intention Hybrid Feel?
Now that we’ve given the Intention’s specs a thorough once over, it’s time to get into its feel. So, let’s kick things off with a little firmness, shall we?
As with any feel factor, firmness is highly subjective, and can change a lot depending on one’s body, size, and shape. Therefore, my interpretation of the bed’s firmness could be different from your own, so just keep that in mind as you continue reading. For reference, I’m 5’10” and 190 lbs.
After testing out the Intention, I landed on an average rating of 5.5 out of 10. When compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness, it’s clear this is one soft bed.
I gave the mattress a 5.5 as I found it to be quite gentle. Though you do get some nice bounce from the sturdy pocketed coil system, it doesn’t overwhelm the softness of the quilted cover and top foam layers. You’re not likely to sink into this structure, per say, but you will probably experience some pleasant pressure relief as you press into the bed. For this reason, I think it could be a good fit for side sleepers, who need a bit of cushiony support at the shoulders and hips.

Testing the Intention Hybrid
Next up, let’s test out the mattress for Pressure Relief and Motion Transfer. Though I could describe how the Intention performs on these tests, I think it’s much more beneficial to show you how it does.
Pressure Relief
When I talk about pressure relief, I’m referring to how well (or not well) a bed is able to alleviate tension at sensitive spots like the shoulders, hips, and lower back. To test this, I like to use a pressure map.
Basically, I roll out the map, hop aboard, and let it do the rest! As I move around, my body presses into the device, which records my force and translates it into an easy-to-read graphic. Areas of blue indicate low pressure and areas of red indicate high pressure!
Back – Stretching out on my back felt really comfortable! The quilted cover and top layers of foam filled in the space at my lumbar region, providing some pleasant relief there. I’m not sure if I’d recommend staying in this position all night, but the bounce of the coils did make it easy to move around and change positions.
Side – Turning onto my side, I continued to feel some really nice pressure relief. As I pushed into the structure, the gentle top layers cradled my shoulders and hips, helping to alleviate tension that might otherwise crop up in this position. That being said, I’d definitely recommend the Intention for folks who like to doze on their sides.
Stomach – And finally, my stomach. Of the three positions, this was the least comfortable. Why? Because the gentle foam top layers sent my hips out of line with my shoulders. This is a no-go for stomach sleepers, as it causes bowing at the lower back, which can lead to soreness the next day. In general, strict stomach sleepers will want to opt for a firmer structure that supports a more neutral spine alignment.
Motion Transfer
Up next, motion transfer, or the amount of movement detectable from one side of the bed to the other. An important measure for all, but especially so for couples as it’ll simulate how disturbed you’re likely to be by your bed mate’s tossing and turning in the night.
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
These are great motion transfer results! I’d attribute this to two things: the quilted cover (which helps to dampen movement) and the individually wrapped coils (which work to isolate motion across the structure). Given this low motion transfer, I think the Intention could be a fantastic pick for couples.
Should You Buy the Diamond Intention Hybrid?
Well folks, we’ve arrived at the end of this review! We’ve gone over the Diamond brand history, chatted about the Intention’s construction, and sussed out its unique feel, so now all that’s left to figure out is whether or not it’s the bed for you. While I can’t make that decision (sorry!), I can leave you with a few final pros and cons to help you get there on your own.

Intention Hybrid Recommendations
- First and foremost, I think this would be a great bed for side sleepers, who will likely enjoy the pressure relief they’ll experience at the shoulders, hips, and lower back.
- I also think combo sleepers could enjoy this mattress, as the bounce of the pocketed coil system makes it easy to move around and change positions.
- And finally, I’d recommend the Intention for couples, who will benefit from its low motion transfer.
Intention Hybrid Complaints
- Though side sleepers will likely find a lot to love in this mattress, the same can’t be said for stomach sleepers, who will definitely want to go with something firmer.
- And though the mattress is quite soft, there’s not a lot of contouring here, so may not be the best fit for folks who really want to sink into their bed.
