DreamCloud is an online mattress retailer that has been well-known for its affordable luxury bed-in-a-box hybrid mattresses. However, the brand recently expanded its offerings to include an all-foam version of the three original DreamCloud mattresses. In this review, I’ll be taking a closer look at the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress — the most luxurious and expensive model in the new memory foam mattress line (and the all-foam version of the DreamCloud Premier Rest Hybrid mattress).

I was excited to see how this foam model stacked up against the original hybrid model, as well as to see how it performed in areas like motion isolation, pressure relief, cooling, and more. I put this bed to the test on those factors and more to help you decide if the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress is the right bed for you.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress Overview

The DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress is a luxury all-foam bed-in-a-box from online retailer DreamCloud. It’s the third bed in DreamCloud’s all-foam line, and the most luxurious and expensive of the three foam mattresses. It features a quilted cashmere blend cover, a Euro top, gel memory foam, and sturdy support foam.

The plush pillow top provides some pressure-relieving comfort, while the support foam gives the bed a sturdy feel. All together, this results in a medium-firm mattress that is best-suited for back sleepers. It provides the right amount of support for spinal alignment, while still relieving back sleepers’ pressure points and feeling cozy.

This bed performed surprisingly well in our cooling test, which I’ll discuss in detail later, so it could be a great choice for those seeking an all-foam bed with good temperature regulation capabilities.

The DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress does ship compressed in a box, so I recommend having a friend help you unbox it. I’d also advise giving it a day or so to fully expand and dissipate any off-gassing smells.

After ranking the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress on performance factors and policies, I gave it a final average score of 4.1 out of 5.

You may notice that the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam scored comparatively lower on motion isolation and edge support. This was because we saw a fair amount of motion transfer on the bed and because the perimeter of the bed wasn’t the sturdiest. I’ll go over these tests in more detail in the performance section of this review, but I suggest taking a look at our best mattresses for couples for some beds that performed better in these areas.

What Is the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress Made Of? 

Let’s take a look at what’s inside the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress. Knowing what materials a mattress is made with can provide better insight into how it will feel and perform.

Cover – The cover of the DreamCloud Premier Rest is a cashmere blend quilted with foam for immediate plushness. This cover encases a Euro top, which is a pillow top stitched flush to the mattress. This Euro top is made with a layer of memory foam for additional comfort.

Comfort Layer – Underneath the Euro top lies a 4-inch section of gel-infused memory foam. This foam layer provides contouring and cushioning, while the gel infusions are intended to counteract the heat-trapping nature of foam. This foam, and all the other foams used in the mattress, are CertiPUR-US certified.

Transition Layer – Next is a 2-inch layer of gel foam, which is slightly more responsive than the layer above. This serves as a transition between the plusher layer above and the support layer below.

Support Layer – The main support in the mattress is an 8-inch section of sturdy base foam. This provides the main structure for the mattress and support for the sleeper.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress Firmness 

Here at Sleepopolis, we rate mattress firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. We use 6.5 as the standard for medium-firm, the most common mattress firmness. Because firmness is subjective, we like to have a few team members test out the mattress by lying on it in different sleeping positions and give it a firmness rating on the scale.

After testing the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress with my colleagues, I ultimately rated its firmness as 6.5 out of 10, meaning it is a medium-firm mattress. The bed feels quite sturdy and supportive, but has a slightly plush feel — I experienced some slight sinkage and contouring on the bed, but didn’t feel like I was sinking in deeply. The upper layers of soft foam do provide that plush feeling, but I think the more supportive foams in the lower half of the bed keep you lifted up and supported.

Sleeping Position and Body Weight

Now let’s talk about how sleepers of different sizes may feel in different sleeping positions on the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress.

We recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 250 pounds).

As a general rule, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average weight sleepers and tend to sink into the mattress more.

As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers tend to need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.

Here’s my take on how each sleeper type will feel on the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress.

Is the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?

• Light Back Sleepers –  The DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress should be an ideal fit for light back sleepers. The medium-firm feel should keep these folks comfortable, but supported.
• Light Side Sleepers – I think the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress is too firm for light side sleepers, as I don’t think they’ll experience enough cushioning for their shoulder and hip.
• Light Stomach Sleepers – Some light stomach sleepers may find the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress firm enough to keep their hips supported. I felt my hips sinking in and my lower back bowing, but I’m in the average weight group, so people lighter than me may not sink in quite as much.

Is the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?

• Average Weight Back Sleepers – As an average weight back sleeper myself, I found the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress very comfortable. I think the medium-firm feel is ideal for maintaining spinal alignment, while still feeling comfortable. I will note though that my colleague with chronic back pain found it a little too soft for her taste.
• Average Weight Side Sleepers – I found the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress too firm for side sleeping. I didn’t get quite enough contouring around my shoulder and hip to comfortably rest on my side.
• Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – Despite not being soft enough for side sleeping, I still found the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam too soft for stomach sleeping. I felt my hips sinking into the mattress and would recommend average weight stomach sleepers go for a firmer mattress.

Is the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?

• Heavy Back Sleepers – I think the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam could work for some heavy back sleepers, but in general I’d advise going for a mattress with coils for better support. See our best mattresses for heavy sleepers for better options.
• Heavy Side Sleepers – Similar to back sleepers, some heavy side sleepers may find the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress cushioning enough for side sleeping, since these folks are likely to sink into the material more than I did. Still, I’d advise heavier people to choose a mattress with coils to ensure good support.
• Heavy Stomach Sleepers – The DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam is probably too soft for heavy stomach sleepers. I suspect they’ll find their hips sinking into the mattress.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress Performance

There are factors to consider when mattress shopping beyond how the bed feels. So in addition to assessing firmness and how each sleeping position feels on a mattress, we like to run each mattress we review through a series of tests on performance factors like pressure relief, motion isolation, responsiveness, cooling, and edge support.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress Pain Relief Performance

Pressure relief is important for preventing pain on the body, such as on the shoulders, hips, or lower back. A mattress that relieves pressure well can cradle these body parts and keep them cushioned, rather than adding additional pressure. This is key for side and back sleepers, as well as sleepers with chronic pain.

To test pressure relief, we use a heat-mapping pressure mat. We lay the mat on top of the mattress, then have a tester lay on top of it in different sleeping positions. The mat uses thermal imaging to generate a color-coded pressure map, showing where pressure is building on the body.

Looking at my pressure map results for back sleeping, the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress is looking like a good choice for pressure relief. There is essentially no pressure showing, so this is great news for those who sleep on their back. On my side, there is some very slight pressure buildup in my shoulder, but this isn’t too bad. This felt like more pressure on my shoulder than I like for side sleeping, but this pressure map suggests that the bed could work decently well for some side sleepers.

Motion Transfer

If you’ve ever been awoken by your partner or pet moving around on the mattress, then you’ve experienced motion transfer. Motion transfer is essentially how movement carries across a mattress. For those who share the bed, we look for a mattress that can isolate that motion at the source, rather than letting it spread to the other side of the bed.

We come up with our motion transfer score using a few different tests. The first one is simple: we just lie down on the mattress with a colleague, roll around, and see how much of each other’s movement we feel. We also place a full wine glass on the mattress, and see how much the wine moves around with us. If the liquid has zero to little movement, then it’s a safe bet that the mattress has low motion transfer, which is what you want to see.

Finally, there’s our seismometer test. This involves dropping a 10 pound steel ball from heights of four inches, eight inches and 12 inches, then measuring the disturbance it causes: the bigger the lines on the graph, the bigger the disturbance and the higher the motion transfer.

In the initial test, I had my colleague Nichole lay on the mattress with an eye mask on, while I moved around on the other side to see how much she felt. She said she felt a decent amount of motion transferring as I moved around on the bed.

Our seismograph showed fairly similar results, which you can see above. This isn’t super high motion transfer, but a significant amount of motion was detected on the seismograph. If you are easily disturbed at night, the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress might not be the best pick for you, as you may be awoken by your partner getting out of bed or making larger movements. But if you and your partner are deep sleepers, it may not bother you.

Responsiveness

A responsive bed is easy to move around on, because the material has a quick response to pressure. This is beneficial for combination sleepers, people with mobility issues, and for having sex.

I tested the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress’s responsiveness by moving around on the mattress, changing between sleeping positions, to see how easy or difficult it was. As I tested moving around, I noticed it did take some effort to change between sleeping positions. The mattress doesn’t have much bounce to it either. Overall, I’d say it isn’t the most responsive bed, but I didn’t feel completely stuck in it either.

Cooling

A cooling mattress can be beneficial to many different people, such as people in warm climates, couples, and those who simply run warm at night.

To assess cooling, we first like to look at the materials a mattress is made with. The DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam is an all-foam mattress, so I didn’t expect it to stay very cool. All-foam mattresses are known for trapping heat. However, it does feature a more breathable cover, since it is made with a cashmere blend, and gel infusions in the foam. These materials can assist with cooling, even though a solid foam bed doesn’t allow for as much airflow as a bed with coils would.

We also test out each mattress with a device called a thermal gun, which uses color-coded imaging to measure how much and how quickly a mattress heats up when we lie down on it. If it heats up more than 15 degrees Fahrenheit, we consider it to have poor cooling capabilities. 10 to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, 5 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, and less than 5 degrees indicates excellent cooling.

After a tester laid on the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress for five minutes, it increased in temperature by about 3.7 degrees — qualifying this bed as excellent for cooling, on our scale. I was really surprised by this, because the bed is made entirely of foam, which traps heat easily. So the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress may make a great choice for hot sleepers who want a cooling foam bed.

Edge Support

Edge support refers to how well the perimeter of a mattress bears weight. If a mattress has good edge support, then the edges will support you when you’re sitting or lying along the edge. If a mattress has poor edge support, then the perimeter may collapse or sag beneath you.

I first tested the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam’s edge support by sitting along the edge. I definitely felt the edges collapsing beneath me and I didn’t feel well-supported. Then I moved to lay along the edge of the bed. I felt slightly more supported on the edge when laying, but still I wasn’t too impressed with the bed’s edge support. I’d say overall this mattress has decent edge support, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone prioritizing edge support in their mattress, such as couples, those who like to sit or lie along the edge, or people with mobility issues who use the edge to get in and out of bed.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress Performance For Couples

When deciding if a mattress is a good fit for couples, we look at four tests: motion transfer, responsiveness, cooling, and edge support. All four of these factors are important for couples.

The DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam only scored highly in cooling, out of these four tests, so it probably isn’t a top choice for couples. The bed showed a decent amount of motion transfer, it didn’t have the most responsive feel, and it didn’t have the sturdiest edges. It could work for some couples, but couples easily disturbed by motion, looking for a great bed for sex, or a mattress that will allow them to maximize the surface area of the bed may be disappointed.

My Final Thoughts about the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress

Now that we’ve gone over all the tests, let’s recap with my final recommendations for who should and shouldn’t consider buying the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress.

Who I Recommend the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress For

• Back sleepers should enjoy the medium-firm feel the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress can provide. It’s a nice mix of comfort and support.
• Hot sleepers, particularly those who like an all-foam bed, should be happy on the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress.
• Lightweight stomach sleepers may find this bed comfortable, but firm enough to keep their hips lifted.

Who I Don’t Recommend the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress For

DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress vs Nectar Mattress

The Nectar is an all-foam mattress with a soft, classic memory foam feel. We rated it as a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, meaning we found it softer than average. 

• Price: The Nectar mattress is considerably less expensive than the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress. A queen size Nectar costs about $1,600 less.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress vs Saatva Classic Mattress

The Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress with a Euro top cover, so it differs quite a bit from the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress. It has a coil-on-coil construction with both interlocking coils and pocketed coils, so it’s great for durability and support. The Saatva Classic comes in three firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. We tested the Luxury Firm model and rated it as a 7 out of 10, meaning it is just firmer than average.

• Price: The Saatva Classic is less expensive than the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress, by about $700 for a queen size.
• Sleeping position: The Luxury Firm model of the Saatva that we tested works really well for back sleepers and some stomach sleepers. However, the Plush Soft model could be a great choice for side sleepers and the Firm model could also work for back and stomach sleepers. With three firmness options, this bed is quite versatile.
• Cooling: The Saatva has lots of room for airflow, thanks to the large coil sections it has. However, it did not perform as well as the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress in our cooling test. The Saatva increased in temperature by about 11.9 degrees, compared to the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam’s 3.7 degrees.
• Body weight: With so many coils, the Saatva is a super supportive choice that can work for sleepers of all body types.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress vs Cloverlane Foam Mattress

The Cloverlane Memory Foam is an all-foam luxury mattress. Like the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress, it also has a hybrid model counterpart. The Cloverlane comes in three firmness options: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. We tested the Plush Soft model and rated its firmness as 6.5 out of 10, meaning it is a medium-firm mattress.

• Price: The Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress is less expensive than the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress, by about $500 for a queen size.
• Sleeping position: The Plush Soft model we tested worked really well for back sleeping, since it has a medium-firm feel. The Luxury Firm or Firm models could work for stomach sleepers. However, since even the softest model was too firm for side sleeping, the Cloverlane isn’t a good choice for those who primarily rest on their side.
• Cooling: The Cloverlane Memory Foam mattress did not perform as well as the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress in our cooling test — it increased in temperature by about 13.6 degrees.
• Body weight: The Cloverlane Memory Foam is 15 inches tall and quite sturdy for an all-foam bed, so it could work for heavy sleepers who weigh 250 pounds or more, depending on sleeping position.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress vs DreamCloud Premier Rest Hybrid Mattress

The DreamCloud Premier Rest Hybrid is the hybrid counterpart to the bed I’ve covered in this review. Thus, they are very similar in construction, but the DreamCloud Premier Rest Hybrid has individually wrapped coils instead of a foam base layer. It feels similar to the memory foam version though — we rated both mattresses as 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

• Price: The DreamCloud Premier Rest Hybrid is currently about $200 cheaper than the memory foam version for a queen size.
• Sleeping position: Like the memory foam model, the DreamCloud Premier Rest Hybrid works well for back sleepers. Our testers also found it comfortable for side sleeping.
• Cooling: The DreamCloud Premier Rest Hybrid sleeps quite cool, as it shares the same gel memory foam and cashmere blend cover as the memory foam version. However, its coil layer also allows lots of room for airflow.
• Body weight: Because of the supportive coil layer, the DreamCloud Premier Rest Hybrid is a better choice for heavy people than the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam.

DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam Mattress vs DreamCloud Memory Foam Mattress

The DreamCloud Memory Foam mattress is the most basic model in the DreamCloud all-foam line, whereas the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam is the most luxurious model. They are similar in construction, but the DreamCloud Memory Foam doesn’t have a Euro top. It also feels firmer — we rated it as a 7.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

• Price: A queen size DreamCloud Memory Foam mattress is about $1,200 less than the DreamCloud Premier Rest Memory Foam mattress.
• Sleeping position: As a very firm mattress, the DreamCloud Memory Foam mattress is best-suited for back and stomach sleepers.
• Cooling: The DreamCloud Memory Foam mattress sleeps quite cool — in our cooling test, it only increased in temperature by about 7 degrees.

• Sleeping position: As a firm bed, the DreamCloud Premier Memory Foam mattress works well for back and stomach sleepers.
