To start off, we put each of our mattresses through something called a “Rest Test,” where we lie down on the bed for an uninterrupted 15-minute power nap. This gives us a big-picture assessment of how it performs before we get into some of our more specific tests. Here’s how my colleague Amelia felt napping on the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid: “I found the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid quite comfortable. I started out lying on my back and I felt a nice amount of pressure relief and felt the foams filling in the space around my lumbar area for additional pressure relief on my lower back. After a while, I turned onto my side. I felt some pressure buildup around my shoulder, as I wasn’t sinking in too deeply, but overall felt comfortable enough to keep snoozing.”

Ultimately, I rated the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid as a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. We rate 6.5 as the standard for medium-firm, so this means this Nolah is slightly softer than average. You’ll sink into the top cushiony foam layer a little bit, but the lower high-density foam layers still work to keep you feeling supported.

Is the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?- Light Back Sleepers – I think this could be a great fit for these sleepers. It’ll feel more like a medium-firm bed to them.
- Light Side Sleepers – A lot of these sleepers should enjoy this bed and how it will cushion their shoulder and hip.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – These sleepers could do well on this mattress since it should keep them lifted up enough to promote healthy sleep posture.
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – I think these sleepers should feel comfortable and supported on this bed. The foams offer nice pressure relief, but these sleepers won’t sink too far through them.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid is a great match for these sleepers. They should feel relief around their shoulder and hip, which is crucial for preventing pain in this sleeping position.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – I think this bed is going to be a touch too soft for these sleepers and they’ll want a firm mattress instead, especially if they only sleep on their stomach.

Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid Pain Relief Performance
How well a bed relieves pressure can be a game changer for anyone who suffers from aches or pain. A mattress with good pressure relief will alleviate tension at pressure points found at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. Depending on your preferred sleeping position, you’ll want pressure relief for different parts of your body. To test the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid’s pressure relieving abilities, I used a pressure map. Basically, I roll out this device on top of the mattress, hop aboard, and let the map do the rest. As I move around, the device tracks the force I’m exerting on the bed, producing a colored “map” of results. Blue and green indicate areas of low pressure, while orange and red indicate areas of high pressure.
Back Pain – These were great results for back sleepers with back pain. The map is basically all blue, showing no pressure forming. I also felt really comfortable in this position. Results are also good for side sleepers with back pain, but I’d steer stomach sleepers with back pain to a more firm mattress.
Shoulder Pain – Both back and side sleepers with shoulder pain should feel good about these results, as it’s very low pressure for both sleeping positions. I think the cushiony top layer could help alleviate shoulder pain for a lot of sleepers, but side sleepers with extra sensitive shoulders may want to look for an even softer mattress. And I again would recommend stomach sleepers with shoulder pain (except for lightweight ones) go for a firmer bed.
Hip Pain – I would recommend this bed to both back sleepers and side sleepers with hip pain. I felt some great pressure relief while lying in both sleeping positions and didn’t feel any hot spots on my joints. As mentioned, stomach sleepers will want a firmer mattress to ensure healthy sleep posture and ultimately prevent pain.
Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid Mattress Performance for Couples
If you sleep with a partner, you’re going to want to keep a few extra factors in mind when looking for a new mattress than those who sleep solo, like motion transfer, sex, edge, support, and cooling.Motion Transfer
Motion transfer refers to how likely you are to feel your partner’s movement on the other side of the bed. A mattress with strong motion isolation is ideal for couples, since they’ll be less likely to be disturbed by any tossing and turning. To illustrate motion transfer, I dropped a 10-pound steel ball on the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid from heights of four inches, eight inches, and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
These are really good motion transfer results! This is where the all-foam layers really come in handy by absorbing those movements. I think anyone who shares their space with a partner or pet shouldn’t be too disturbed by them getting in and out of the bed.
Sex
The best mattress for sex is typically responsive and easy to move around on. Despite having no coils inside, the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid does a nice job of this and doesn’t make you feel stuck in the bed. I think it’d be a good mattress for sex.Cooling
Two people tend to overheat more easily than one, so a mattress with cooling properties can go a long way. The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid’s moisture-wicking organic cotton cover and breathable Nolah AirFoam™ are designed to help keep you cooler than traditional memory foam mattresses and prevent body heat from trapping. Because of that, I think this mattress sleeps cool compared to other all-foam beds.
Edge Support
Edge support refers to how well the perimeter of a bed supports weight. If it has strong edge support, you’ll feel just as supported on the side of the bed as you do in the middle. Good edge support can make a mattress feel larger, since you can stretch out and use the full surface area of the bed. I tested the Signature All-Foam Hybrid’s edge support by sitting, lying, and moving around on the side of the bed. I felt it squishing below me while sitting, but it did a pretty solid job when I was lying on the edge. Overall, I’d say the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid has good edge support.What is the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid Mattress Made Of?
To get an even better look at this 12-inch mattress, let’s dig into its different layers. I also want to note Nolah’s foams are CertiPUR-US certified, which means they’re free of ozone depleting chemicals. Cover – It has a soft, organic cotton cover that helps wick away moisture. Comfort Layer – The comfort layer is two inches of plush Nolah AirFoam™, which contours to your body without making you feel trapped in the bed. It’s also designed to help the bed sleep cooler. Transition Layer – Next up are two inches of Ultra-Breathable Active Response Foam. This brings added support, while promoting airflow through the mattress. Support Layer – Here you’ll find the AirFoam Flex support system, which Nolah says mimics coils and consists of three different layers. There are two foam layers with micro-cut waves to promote airflow and flexibility, and then a high-density AirFoam HD layer in the middle. The layers help make the bed responsive and easy to move around on, improve motion isolation, and offer support to the structure.

My Final Thoughts About the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid Mattress
Before we finish up this review and say our goodbyes, let’s go over my favorite (and not-so-favorite) things about the Nolah Signature 12” All-Foam Hybrid mattress.My favorite things about the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid mattress
I admittedly had my doubts, but this all-foam bed does a pretty decent job of offering an experience similar to a hybrid mattress. It’s responsive, has good edge support, nice motion isolation, and some added cooling components. This makes it great for couples and those looking for a little extra oomph of support. I especially like it for back, side, and combination sleepers, as I think they’ll get nice pressure relief and achieve spinal alignment.My complaints about the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid mattress
Although I think it does a nice job imitating a hybrid mattress, the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid is still not quite supportive enough in my book for heavier sleepers weighing over 250 pounds or for most strict stomach sleepers. I think these folks (and anyone after a traditional innerspring mattress feel) will want to find true innerspring or hybrid support.
