Mattress toppers are a great way to prolong the life of your current mattress, change up the feel, or add a layer of support to the top of your bed.
The Nolah mattress topper is made with the brand’s signature AirFoam and comes in two firmness levels. The manufacturer claims you can “use it to bring new life to your old bed, or add it to your new mattress for even more cushioning and pressure relief.”
To verify this claim, my fellow certified sleep science coaches and I personally tested this mattress topper, and in this review, I’ll go over its materials, feel, prices, policies, and who I think might like it.
Nolah Mattress Topper

The Nolah Mattress Topper is a high-quality product boasting a CertiPUR-US certification. Nolah’s signature foam is described as more durable, plush, and cooling than other foams on the market.

Nolah Mattress Topper Overview
As a brand, Nolah is primarily known for its memory foam and hybrid mattresses that feature high-quality and organic materials. Fortunately, that same level of quality extends to their accessories, including the Nolah mattress topper.

This topper is a great option for sleepers looking to add a plush, cloud-like feel to a mattress that’s too firm. It offers excellent contouring and pressure relief for side sleepers as the foam allows their hips and shoulders to sink in comfortably. However, because it prioritizes plushness over support, it’s not the best choice for most back or stomach sleepers who need more lift around the hips.
Nolah Mattress Topper Performance
Using our review methodology, my fellow sleep science coaches and I tested the Nolah mattress topper in our Charlotte, NC, studio to assess its performance in various categories. See how it performed in each category below.
Support
If your mattress is too firm for you, or if you prefer a more cloud-like surface to sleep on, the Nolah mattress topper could be a great fit. While testing the Nolah, my first impression of the mattress topper was that it was really soft. As soon as I lay on it, I felt my body sinking through it.

If you are looking for a mattress topper to add a layer of support to your sleep surface, this one likely won’t cut it. That said, I think this is a great addition for a firm mattress that needs a little extra plushness on top to make it more forgiving in certain areas.
Pressure Relief
The Nolah mattress topper is a homerun for side sleepers seeking a more cushioned sleep surface. It felt great when lying on my side. I could feel my hips and shoulders getting deep cushioning and pressure relief as I sank into it.

However, I wouldn’t recommend the Nolah mattress topper to most back sleepers or stomach sleepers. These sleepers typically need more support near their hips to maintain neutral spinal alignment. With that said, it could work for sleepers in these categories who weigh less than 130 pounds, as they are unlikely to sink into the memory foam as much as average-weight sleepers and those weighing 230 pounds or more.
Motion Isolation
If you sleep with a restless partner, you shouldn’t be concerned about waking up because of their movement. During testing, one of my fellow certified sleep science coaches tossed and turned next to me while I lay still and blindfolded on the other side of the bed.
Throughout this test, I could sense some movement, but I couldn’t feel any bouncing like on a latex mattress topper. The motion should not ripple too much across the surface since this is memory foam and very soft.
Cooling
The Nolah mattress topper is not the best fit for sleepers prone to overheating. After lying on it for a few minutes, it feels nice and cozy, but not super breathable. However, I didn’t feel like it was heating up during testing.
To confirm this, my fellow mattress testers and I used our thermal gun to measure the surface temperature of the Nolah mattress topper before and after resting on it for five minutes. After a few minutes of uninterrupted rest, the temperature increased by nearly 6 degrees, which is impressive for an all-foam topper.

Still, lying on the Nolah mattress topper feels like receiving an inviting, slightly warm hug. While I don’t think it would heat up to an uncomfortable temperature for most sleepers, I would suggest that hot sleepers opt for a mattress topper with additional temperature-regulation features, such as phase-change material or cooling gel-infused memory foam.
Nolah Mattress Topper Materials
The Nolah mattress topper features a cover made with organic cotton yarn. This organic cotton cover can be unzipped and removed from the topper for easy cleaning. It also features elastic straps in all four corners to secure the mattress topper to the bed.
The fill is a two-inch layer of Nolah’s proprietary AirFoam, which is 100 percent polyurethane foam. Polyurethane foam (or polyfoam) is typically more breathable than traditional memory foams.

The Nolah mattress topper feels durable, and I believe it would hold up for five years or more. However, sleepers with larger bodies may start to experience some low points in the topper over time because it is so soft.
Nolah Mattress Topper Value
At $449 for a queen-sized topper, the Nolah is on the higher end of the scale. Fortunately, it regularly goes on sale for $319. While I think sleepers will get plenty of mileage from the organic cotton and Nolah AirFoam fill, and the straps and removable cover are nice touches, I don’t think it is enough to justify paying the full $449.
My Final Thoughts About the Nolah Mattress Topper
The Nolah mattress topper is ideal for anyone with a too-firm mattress looking to add more cushioning to their sleep surface, especially side sleepers and those with joint pain. It is also an excellent choice for sleepers with restless partners seeking a way to prevent their bedmate’s movements from disturbing them on their side of the bed. Read on for more details on who I recommend (and don’t recommend) this mattress for.

Who I Recommend the Nolah Mattress Topper For
- Side sleepers should both find the Nolah mattress topper comfortable. Side sleepers with sensitive joints will likely want the Plush version to ensure they receive relief on pressure points to prevent shoulder and hip pain.
- Folks who want a secure mattress topper will appreciate the Nolah mattress topper’s elastic bands, which keep it in place on the bed.
- Shoppers who value easy care and cleaning will appreciate this topper’s removable and machine-washable cover.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Nolah Mattress Topper For
- Stomach sleepers will likely find this Nolah topper too soft, in either firmness option. Stomach sleepers need a firm sleep surface to maintain spinal alignment, and adding a foam layer to the top of their bed will likely make it too soft, allowing their hips to sink into the bed. This causes the back to bow out of alignment, which can lead to lower back pain.
- Sleepers who weigh 250 pounds or more may want a thicker topper, particularly if they are seeking a lot of pressure relief. Those with a higher body weight will “bottom out” on their topper more than lighter-weight sleepers, so a thicker topper provides more room to sink in.

Nolah Mattress Topper vs. Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt Topper
The TEMPUR-Adapt is a high-end memory foam mattress topper from Tempur-Pedic. Like the Nolah topper, it has a soft and cloud-like feel; however, we found that it was still firm enough to provide some spinal support.
- Price: The Tempur-Adapt Topper is currently $349, exactly $100 less than the Nolah mattress topper at full price.
- Cooling: The TEMPUR-Adapt has a slight edge when it comes to cooling. Our in-house team noted that it effectively released heat during testing.
- Motion Isolation: Both mattress toppers do an excellent job of isolating motion. Our tester could not feel any motion transfer during the partner test.

Nolah Mattress Topper vs. Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper
The Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper feels denser than its memory foam counterparts, but still squishy and compressible. It has a very responsive feel, as is to be expected from latex. While it is more supportive than the Nolah topper, I wouldn’t say this is a great topper for people who want to add firmness and support, as there’s still more sinkage than lift.
- Price: The Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper is currently $345, which is cheaper than the Nolah mattress topper.
- Cooling: The Nolah mattress topper performed better on the cooling test than the Saatva. We found that the Saatva retained more heat, increasing by 8 degrees after lying on it for 5 minutes. The Nolah increased by roughly 6 degrees on the same test.
- Motion Isolation: Latex is a naturally responsive material, so the Saatva is very springy and easy to move around on. However, that springiness contributes to greater motion transfer, so if you are easily disturbed by your partner’s movement at night, you might prefer the Nolah mattress topper instead.

Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper

The Saatva Natural Latex mattress topper is made with a 1.5-inch layer of latex foam, an organic cotton cover, and elastic straps. It offers a buoyant feel and some light contouring.
