Who Is the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper Best For?
No mattress topper is one-size-fits-all, so let’s quickly run down who I think this topper is a good option for and who should consider buying a different mattress topper.

Who I Recommend the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper For
- Latex is naturally responsive, so combination sleepers who switch between multiple positions should love this mattress topper.
- Sleepers with allergies will be pleased to know that the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper is completely hypoallergenic, thanks to a special washing process that removes all allergy-causing proteins.
- People wanting to soften their sleep surface without compromising mobility should appreciate the springy yet squishy feel of the latex.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper For
- Hot sleepers will likely prefer a mattress topper with additional cooling properties over this one.
- Sleepers easily disturbed by motion will want to avoid this mattress topper. Latex has a bouncier feel than traditional memory foam, so these sleepers will likely feel more of their partner’s movements.
What is the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper Made Of?
Let’s take a look now at the materials used in the Saatva Natural Latex mattress topper. There are tons of materials used, from memory foam to down to latex, and materials can tell you a lot about how the mattress topper will feel.
Cover: The cover of the Saatva Natural Latex topper is made from organic cotton, which is soft and breathable. The topper also features elastic straps in the corners to secure the topper to the surface of the mattress.

Fill: The fill of the topper is a 1.5-inch layer of latex foam. Latex foam is similar to memory foam but made from the sap of rubber trees. It has a bouncier, more responsive feel and maintains a cooler temperature. The latex foam is also perforated to allow for additional airflow and is hypoallergenic.
The latex used in this topper is eco-INSTITUT certified to be free from harmful chemicals, as well as Forest Stewardship Council certified for meeting sustainability standards. Learn more about these certifications in our mattress certification guide. Additionally, the topper is treated with Saatva’s Guardin botanical antimicrobial treatment to prevent the growth of mold, mildew, and bacteria.
This topper is available in seven different sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, California king, and split king. Additionally, it is made in the United States.

Using our thorough review methodology, our product experts tested the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper in our Charlotte, NC, studio to assess its performance for various sleepers.

Responsiveness
The Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper has a classic latex foam feel. While it helps soften the mattress surface, it still maintains a buoyant feel that quickly responds to pressure. This responsive feel is beneficial for combination sleepers, as it should help them quickly change between sleeping positions.
Motion Isolation
Since this is a latex mattress topper, it might not be the best option for sleepers who are sensitive to motion. Our sleep experts found that movement traveled across the surface of this springy mattress topper.
“I could feel my testing partner get into bed and move around, but it wasn’t too jarring,” one tester said. “It’s responsive, so the motion ripples across the surface. I could feel that there was another person on the bed moving, so I could see some light sleepers waking up due to a partner’s motion.”
Cooling
If you or your partner tends to sleep hot, you might prefer a specialized cooling mattress topper over the Saatva. Using a thermal gun, our product testers measured the surface temperature of the mattress topper before and after lying on it for 5 minutes and found that it increased by 7.8 degrees.

These test results are slightly above average for mattress toppers; however, sleepers prone to overheating will likely find this mattress topper too warm.
“While it is not cool to the touch, it did not feel super warm either,” said one tester. “I wouldn’t say it actively cooled me down. I think it should work fine for most sleepers, but it might not have enough cooling firepower for extra hot sleepers.”
Pressure Relief
The Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper is ideal for back sleepers wanting to add a thin layer of cushioning to their sleep surface. Because of its elastic nature, this latex mattress topper will not sink excessively and should help fill in the lower lumbar region.
While side sleepers can also benefit from this additional cushioning, those with sensitive hips and shoulders will not get the deep contouring and pressure relief they need from this mattress topper. I would recommend a traditional, slow-sinking memory foam topper for these sleepers instead.

What Type of Mattress Is the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper Best For?
At only 1.5 inches, this is a relatively thin mattress topper. During testing, we found that the topper did not significantly impact the firmness of the mattress. As one tester noted, “If your mattress is a 7 out of 10 on our firmness scale, this mattress topper might bring it down to a 6.5.”

Read on to see how this topper could subtly change the overall feel of your mattress.
- Soft mattresses: Thanks to its latex construction, adding this mattress topper to an overly soft mattress may actually make the bed feel slightly firmer. That could be a good temporary fix for someone who needs added support on a saggy mattress.
- Medium-firm mattresses: Placing the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper on a medium-firm mattress will not significantly alter it. However, it can add a touch of contouring if you are looking for just a bit more pressure relief.
- Firm mattresses: On a firm mattress, this topper can introduce a subtle layer of pressure relief without significantly changing the overall feel of the bed.

Read Full ReviewMy Verdict on the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper
I think the Saatva Natural Latex mattress topper is a good choice for anyone looking for a topper that provides slight cushioning without compromising mobility. While the latex foam conforms around you for some pressure-point relief, it isn’t as cushioning as a thick memory foam mattress topper. Folks who are not a fan of the sinking-in feel of memory foam or its heat-trapping nature might prefer the bouncy latex used in this topper.

These qualities make the Saatva Natural Latex mattress topper a solid choice for most back sleepers. I think it could work for some side sleepers, but considering these sleepers need the most pressure relief, I don’t think it’s the best option. And while it is a relatively breathable mattress topper, it isn’t the greatest cooling option, as it lacks specialized cooling fibers or features.
During testing, we loved the inclusion of the anchor bands, but we wish the cover were removable and machine washable.
My only other complaint about this mattress topper is its price. Unfortunately, that’s generally the case with latex mattress toppers, as latex is more durable and more difficult to manufacture. This topper’s price point is fairly average for latex toppers, but at $350 for a queen-size at full retail, many folks with tight budgets might be better off putting that cash towards a new mattress instead.

Latex is often considered an eco-friendly alternative to memory foam, as latex is made from the sap of rubber trees, while memory foam is technically a plastic product.
Is a mattress topper the same as a mattress pad or mattress protector?
Nope, these are all actually three different products. A mattress protector is used to protect the mattress from liquid and/or allergens and a mattress pad creates a slightly cushioned sleep surface and provides a small amount of protection. However, a mattress topper is basically adding a top layer to an existing mattress to change the feel. Learn more in our mattress pad vs mattress protector vs mattress topper explainer.
Should I get a mattress topper or a new mattress?
If you have an uncomfortable or old mattress, it can be hard to decide whether to upgrade to a new mattress or add a topper. In general, if your current mattress is over 10 years old or has visible signs of deterioration, we’d recommend investing in a new mattress. But if your mattress isn’t very old or just isn’t working for you, but is otherwise in good condition, a mattress topper can be a good fix for a different feel, more body contouring, or additional temperature regulation.
