Who is the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper Best For?
No mattress topper is one-size-fits-all, so let’s quickly run down who I think this topper is a good option for and who should consider buying a different mattress topper.
Who I Recommend the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper For
- I think this topper will work very well for hot sleepers. Cooling latex and breathable cotton keep it nice and cool.
- People who toss and turn should appreciate this topper’s straps, which secure it in place and prevent the topper from shifting on the surface of the mattress.
- I think this topper will be a good choice for back, stomach, and back/stomach combination sleepers.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper For
- This isn’t the best topper for side sleepers, as it doesn’t provide a lot of cushioning or pressure relief. Take a look at our favorite mattress toppers for side sleepers for better options.
- Shoppers looking for an easy-to-clean topper may not love that the Saatva Natural Latex mattress topper is spot-clean only.
- Budget shoppers may find this topper is a bit too pricey. I’d recommend checking out some of our favorite cheap mattress toppers if you’re on a tight budget.
What is the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper Made Of?
Let’s take a look now at the materials used in the Saatva Natural Latex mattress topper. There are tons of materials used, from memory foam to down to latex, and materials can tell you a lot about how the mattress topper will feel.
Cover: The cover of the Saatva Natural Latex topper is made from organic cotton, which is soft and breathable. The topper also features elastic straps in the corners to secure the topper to the surface of the mattress.
Fill: The fill of the topper is a 1.5-inch layer of latex foam. Latex foam is similar to memory foam but made from the sap of rubber trees. It has a bouncier, more responsive feel and maintains a cooler temperature. The latex foam is also perforated to allow for additional airflow and is hypoallergenic.
The latex used in this topper is eco-INSTITUT certified to be free from harmful chemicals, as well as Forest Stewardship Council certified for meeting sustainability standards. Learn more about these certifications in our mattress certification guide. Additionally, the topper is treated with Saatva’s Guardin botanical antimicrobial treatment to prevent the growth of mold, mildew, and bacteria.
This topper is available in seven different sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, California king, and split king. Additionally, it is made in the United States.

Now let’s discuss what this mattress topper feels like. To test it out, I tried lying on the Saatva Natural Latex mattress topper in multiple sleeping positions to see how it felt in each position and how easy it is to move around on.
Lying on the topper, I initially felt it had a very classic latex foam feel. It has a buoyant, responsive feel that allows for some contouring but has a much quicker response to pressure than memory foam does.
Because the foam is so thin, at only one and a half inches, I have to say the topper doesn’t have a massive effect on the firmness of the bed. It’s basically just adding a thin additional layer of support and comfort. However, let’s go over how this topper will work on mattresses of different firmnesses.
Soft: I think adding this topper to a soft mattress will actually give the bed a slightly firmer feel. This could be a good option for someone who doesn’t like how soft their bed is or who feels like they are sinking into the bed too deeply and would rather feel more “on top” of the bed.
Medium-firm: Adding the Saatva Natural Latex mattress topper to a medium-firm mattress likely won’t make a massive difference in the feel. I think it would be good to add if you want a cooling layer or if you need just a little more contouring than your mattress currently offers.
Firm: Adding it onto a firmer mattress also allows for a slight touch of pressure relief, without altering the feel too much.

Read Full ReviewMy Verdict on the Saatva Natural Latex Mattress Topper
I think the Saatva Natural Latex mattress topper is a good choice for anyone looking for a topper that provides slight cushioning, without trapping body heat. This topper is pretty thin — at just an inch and a half — and while the latex foam conforms around you for some pressure-point relief, it isn’t as cushioning as a thick memory foam mattress topper. Folks who don’t like the sinking-in feel of memory foam or its heat-trapping nature definitely might prefer the cool, bouncy latex used in this topper.
These qualities make the Saatva Natural Latex mattress topper a solid choice for back sleepers and stomach sleepers. I think it could work for some side sleepers, but considering these folks need the most pressure relief, I don’t think it’s the best option out there. It is a great cooling mattress topper, as the latex maintains a naturally cool temperature and the perforations in the foam, plus the organic cotton cover, make it very breathable.
I love how soft and high-quality the cover feels — and I love the inclusion of the anchor bands — but I do wish the cover was removable and machine washable. I feel like a cover ought to be removable so you can ensure the topper stays super clean.
My other biggest con for this topper is it is definitely not budget-friendly. Unfortunately, that’s generally the case with latex mattress toppers — they tend to be much more expensive than memory foam, because latex is more durable and more difficult to manufacture. This topper’s price point is fairly average for latex toppers, but at close to $500 for a queen size at full retail, many folks with tight budgets might be better off putting that cash towards a new mattress instead.

Is latex eco-friendly?
Latex is often considered an eco-friendly alternative to memory foam, as latex is made from the sap of rubber trees, while memory foam is technically a plastic product.
Is a mattress topper the same as a mattress pad or mattress protector?
Nope, these are all actually three different products. A mattress protector is used to protect the mattress from liquid and/or allergens and a mattress pad creates a slightly cushioned sleep surface and provides a small amount of protection. However, a mattress topper is basically adding a top layer to an existing mattress to change the feel. Learn more in our mattress pad vs mattress protector vs mattress topper explainer.
Should I get a mattress topper or a new mattress?
If you have an uncomfortable or old mattress, it can be hard to decide whether to upgrade to a new mattress or add a topper. In general, if your current mattress is over 10 years old or has visible signs of deterioration, we’d recommend investing in a new mattress. But if your mattress isn’t very old or just isn’t working for you, but is otherwise in good condition, a mattress topper can be a good fix for a different feel, more body contouring, or additional temperature regulation.
