On Thursday, August 15, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that the Mamibaby and Cosy Nation baby loungers have been recalled due to suffocation risks, plus fall and entrapment hazards. This recall affects over 32,000 products, and the affected baby loungers were sold on Amazon by retailers MEIXIA Shop and Softbless. (1)

We’ve gone ahead and broken down everything you need to know about the latest baby lounger recall: why the lounger has been recalled, what to do next, and what your recourse might be.

Why Were the Mamibaby and Cosy Nation Baby Loungers Recalled?

The Mamibaby and Cosy Nation Baby Loungers were recalled because they violate the federal safety regulations for infant sleep products. According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the baby loungers specifically violate sleep regulations because “because the sides are too low to contain the infant; the sleeping pad is too thick, posing a suffocation hazard; an infant could fall out of an enclosed opening at the foot of the lounger or become entrapped; and the loungers do not have a stand, posing a fall hazard if used on elevated surfaces.” (1)

How Do I Know If I Have A Recalled Baby Lounger?

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission states that the baby loungers are made up of a cloth cover, a foam sleeping pad, and padded bumper. Additionally, you can spot recalled products by looking for a tag on the interior of the cover that says “SLEEPING SET,” or a tag on the outside of the cover that says “Mamibaby” or “Cosy Nation,” though all loungers do not include the exterior tags, so be sure to check the interior as well. (1)

Additionally, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission notes that the products were sold on Amazon between June 2023 and June 2024 for anywhere from $40 to $50. So if you suspect that you have one of the recalled loungers, then checking your purchase history is a good idea.

The recalled loungers come in multiple different prints, including:

  • Baby Crown
  • Classics Dinosaur

What Should I Do If I Have a Recalled Baby Lounger?

If you have a recalled baby lounger, the best thing that you can do is to immediately cease use of the baby lounger. Next, you’ll want to contact MEIXIA Shop and/or Softbless for information on how to properly dispose of the product. This step might seem silly at first, but it’s important to dispose of recalled products carefully, so others cannot accidentally use unsafe products. (1)

You are also entitled to a refund if you purchased this product, and according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, MEIXIA Shop and Amazon have been reaching out to customers who have been affected by this recall.

Why Is Following Safe Sleep Practices Important?

Ensuring that babies are sleeping safely is a huge priority and responsibility for parents. The practice of making sure that babies are sleeping safely, commonly referred to as ‘safe sleep’ involves several key elements.

Safe sleep practices can look like ensuring that your baby is sleeping on their back, alone in their crib, checking that your baby sleep products meet the standards of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (which announced the recall of the baby loungers), and ensure that your crib is in line with federal regulations.

Of course, there is more to infant safe sleep than these few things. If you’re unsure or confused about whether something is safe for your infant to sleep with, talking to your pediatrician or consulting trusted resources (like the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission) is a good next step.
