Where the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress is Featured
Here at Sleepopolis, we use a series of hands-on tests to determine which mattress roundups a bed belongs to and who it might be good for. Here is a 2024 mattress roundup that includes the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress:
Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress Overview
The Kirkland Signature Lakeridge hybrid mattress by Stearns and Foster is a big bed, measuring at almost nearly 15 inches tall. This bed-in-a-box mattress is made with a mix of gel and memory foam and nearly 1700 hundred coils to provide sleepers a great sleeping experience — without a hefty price tag.
This is a firm and supportive mattress that offers sleepers that traditional innerspring feel, but comes with luxurious features such as a moisture-wicking TENCEL cover and a reinforced edge support for extra durability. When reviewing, our team of testers talked about how the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress seems to take inspiration from DreamCloud or Saatva Classic mattresses. Who doesn’t love a luxury mattress but at nearly half of the cost of other similar luxury beds on the market?
I do want you to keep in mind however, this mattress is only available at Costco.com and is not currently available in the store. Even though you don’t have to leave the comfort of your home to buy this mattress, it is only available online which means you can’t test it for yourself in your local Costco store. But that’s why I do these reviews to help you determine whether or not this mattress is a good fit for you!
This mattress also comes with Costco’s own version of its white glove delivery service. Their team will deliver this mattress to your home and set this bed up in your room of choice. The team will also get rid of your old mattress at no extra cost to you.
Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress Video Review
Since you can’t feel this bed out for yourself at your local Costco, you should watch this video to get your own closer look at how this bed looks and feels. You will be able to see its materials up close and how this bed performed during our tests.
Overall, I rated this mattress at a 4.5 out of 5, and you can see my individual scores for all of our testing categories at the end of the video.
Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Sleepopolis Score
The main area where I felt that this mattress could improve is its warranty and trial period. Even though most experts say a quality mattress should last you up to a decade, a good mattress warranty is crucial for customers as it protects them from defects and damages upon delivery. Additionally, it’s that extra layer of reassurance that the company is confident with their product’s durability.
Even though Costco’s 10-year warranty is a good feature, we prefer to see a longer warranty — such as a lifetime warranty. If you are looking for a mattress with a longer warranty that should give you a better piece of mind, I suggest you check out our roundup of the best mattresses that won’t sag.
I also want to note that there is no mention of any trial period on Costco’s website. Trial periods allow the sleeper to test the mattress in their home for a specific number of days and return it within that time frame for a full refund. If having a long trial period is important for you, I suggest checking out either the DreamCloud or Saatva Classic, which each have a similar feel to this mattress.
What Is the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress Made Of?
The Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress is a 14.5-inch tall hybrid, bed-in-a-box mattress that offers sleepers that traditional innerspring mattress feel. This mattress combines gel and memory foams to provide much-needed pressure relief as well as over 1700 pocketed coils that focus on supporting the body while increasing the mattress’s durability and longevity.
Let’s go ahead and take a look at the materials used in the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge’s construction.
Cover – The Kirkland Signature Lakeridge is designed with a soft-to-the-touch knit TENCEL cover that feels luxurious and offers a good blend of comfort and cushion. The TENCEL fiber is moisture-wicking and does an excellent job at keeping the sleeper cool and comfortable. The pillow top adds a nice element of softness to a rather firm and supportive mattress.
Comfort Layer – Its comfort layer is made with premium gel foam that is plush and offers optimal pressure relief.
Support Layer – This layer of the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge is made with TEMPUR-Indulge™ Memory Foam, which provides a good mix of plushness and support. This layer also focuses on contouring to the body and provides a nice transition between the foams to the coils below.
Foundation Layer – The final layer of the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress is constructed with lntelliCoil® technology that offers bodily support, stability, and increases the durability of the mattress. This mattress contains over 1700 densely packed coils that adapt to the sleeper’s move and body.
Another thing I want to note about this mattress’ construction is that this bed is also designed with an AirVent System on the sides, making it super easy for air to flow through this mattress. This is a unique design element you don’t see on a mattress often and is a nice touch. This helps make the mattress more breathable and promotes more airflow through the bed.
This mattress also is made with handles on both the front and side of the bed, which comes in handy when you need to move or transport the mattress. As someone who moves mattresses for a living, this is huge for me!
Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress Firmness
Now let’s talk about the firmness and feel of the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress. Everyone has different sleeping styles and sleeping preferences. You may prefer a firm mattress, but another person may prefer a soft, cradling mattress. Some sleepers need a plusher mattress that offers more cushion around sensitive joints like the shoulders and hips. Whereas, back and stomach sleepers usually do better with a firmer mattress that offers support to the lower lumbar region and keeps their backs supported.
At Sleepopolis, we rank mattress firmness on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is as soft as a cloud and 10 is the firmest. We use 6.5 as the industry standard rating for medium-firm, which is the most common mattress firmness. I want you to keep in mind that firmness can be a pretty subjective measurement and various factors including body type, weight, and preferred sleeping position may play a factor in how firm a mattress feels to you individually.
To determine the firmness level, I lie on the mattress in different sleeping positions. If possible, I also try to grab a few of my colleagues so we can see how well the mattress feels with different body types. Then, we compare it to the hundreds of other beds we’ve tested and give it a ranking on the Sleepopolis firmness scale.
After testing out the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge, I decided to rank it as 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, meaning it is a tad firmer than the medium-firm average ranking for a bed. The TENCEL cover and pillow top add a good amount of plushness to the bed, but the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress is a firm mattress that excels at keeping the body lifted and supported.

Sleeping Position and Body Weight
With the firmness and feel of this mattress in mind, let’s talk about how sleepers of different weights may feel on the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress in each sleeping position.
“We recognize that people come in all shapes and sizes, and people of every size deserve a mattress that works for their body type and their sleeping preference of choice. We use the weight categories light, average, and heavy to more easily categorize sleepers based on how mattresses will perform for their body type, as most mattresses are designed for the group we call “average” (130 to 250 pounds).
As a general rule, lighter sleepers don’t require as much support as average weight sleepers, and mattresses will tend to feel firmer to them. On the other hand, heavy sleepers tend to need more support than average weight sleepers and tend to sink into the mattress more.
As far as sleeping positions go, side sleepers tend to need a softer mattress while stomach sleepers usually need a firmer, more supportive one. Back sleepers are usually somewhere in the middle.”
Here’s my thoughts on how each group of people will feel on the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress:
Is the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 pounds)?
- Light Back Sleepers – I think the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress could be a decent pick for light back sleepers who enjoy the feel of a firmer bed. Lightweight sleepers are going to feel like a bed may be more firm than compared to average-to-heavier sleepers, so this bed should probably feel rather firm to these sleepers. But if you fall into this category and prefer a firmer-feeling bed you will definitely feel well-supported and get good spinal alignment during sleep.
- Light Side Sleepers – The Kirkland Signature Lakeridge is too firm for strict side sleepers and it won’t be plush enough for their hips and shoulders.
- Light Stomach Sleepers – Similar to light back sleepers, this mattress should work well for light stomach sleepers who like a firm mattress. The bed’s firmness should help them feel supported and keep their hips lifted up.
Is the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130–250 pounds)?
- Average Weight Back Sleepers – The Kirkland Signature Lakeridge is a great option for average weight back sleepers. The bed offers plenty of support to the body to aid with spinal alignment, while still feeling soft at the same time. As a back sleeper who falls into this category, I felt incredibly comfortable on this mattress. My body felt supported and didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. It also provides good pressure relief around the lower lumbar area.
- Average Weight Side Sleepers – I was pleasantly surprised as I initially thought this bed would be too firm for most average weight side sleepers, however, the pillow top is incredibly comfortable and offers nice cushioning around the shoulders and hips, while offering a good amount of pressure relief at the same time.
- Average Weight Stomach Sleepers – I think that most average weight stomach sleepers would enjoy the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge. When laying on the mattress for some time, my body and hips didn’t sink into the bed and I felt lifted and supported the entire time. I felt like this bed offered a good blend of comfort and support.
Is the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 pounds)?
- Heavy Back Sleepers – I think the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge would work for many heavy back sleepers, as this mattress is too firm and the coils will help keep their bodies supported. Since heavyweight sleepers tend to think a mattress is softer, these sleepers may think this bed is a tad softer than firm so they will probably feel like this mattress cradles and contours to their body more than people who weigh less than 250 pounds.
- Heavy Side Sleepers – I think that the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress could be a good match for heavy side sleepers, as they will get that needed cushion and pressure relief around their shoulders and hips.
- Heavy Stomach Sleepers – Similar to the heavy back sleepers, I think this mattress will do a good job at keeping these sleeper’s bodies lifted and supported while offering a good amount of cushion.
Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress Performance
Mattresses are not one size fits all. Not every bed is going to work for every person depending on what you’re looking for. Do you have a restless partner who tosses and turns all night long? Are you a hot sleeper? These are just a few things to consider when determining whether a mattress could be a good fit for you.
We run tests on performance factors like pressure relief, motion isolation, cooling, and edge support. Below, I’ll go over the results from my tests on the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress to showcase how well this bed performs and I suggest you consider these factors when shopping for a new mattress.
Motion Transfer
Couples who share a bed with a significant other or sleepers who love to cuddle with their pet need a mattress that isolates motion transfer. Motion transfer refers to the amount of movement that travels through and on top of the mattress when it’s touched or disturbed. This is important so couples aren’t woken up in the middle of the night due to their partner’s (or pet’s) every toss and turn.
We come up with our motion transfer score using a few different tests.
Human Test
The first test is quite simple: we just lie down on the mattress with a colleague, roll around, and see how much of each other’s movement we feel. I initially wore an eye mask while a colleague of mine came in and out of the bed. Even though I did feel my coworker initially get in and out of the bed, my side of the bed wasn’t impacted by his movement. I could feel him move and switch positions but it wasn’t impacting my side of the bed.
Water Test
We also place a full water glass on the mattress, and see how much the water moves around with us. If the liquid has zero to little movement, then it’s a safe bet that the mattress has low motion transfer, which is what you want to see. After placing the water on one side of the bed, I moved to the other side of the bed and tested getting in and out of the mattress.
There was barely any movement in the glass when I got in the bed and moved around on the mattress (honestly the water in the glass was almost not even moving at all). This shows the bed did a good job at isolating motion at the source, which is a good result for a hybrid bed. I think the pillow top on the top of the bed does most of the work of reducing motion transfer.
Seismometer Test
Finally, there’s our seismometer test. This involves dropping a 10 pound steel ball from heights of four inches, eight inches and 12 inches, then measuring the disturbance it causes: the bigger the lines on the graph, the bigger the disturbance and the higher the motion transfer. As you’ll see in the graphic below, each height is meant to mimic a different movement you might feel in bed.
Overall, these are pretty great motion-transfer results, especially for a hybrid mattress with coil layers. Thanks to the top pillow top layer, this mattress does a great job of isolating motion at the source. The plush pillow top does a great job of suppressing the motion caused by the pocketed coils.
After all of my tests, I ended up giving the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress 4.5 out of 5 for motion isolation. This bed is fantastic for couples with restless partners, as well as people who like to sleep with their favorite furry friends.
Responsiveness
A bed’s responsiveness tells us how easy it is to move around on the surface of your mattress. We like to test each mattress’s responsiveness by pressing down on its top layer, removing our hand, and seeing how quickly the surface returns to its original shape. This is an easy test you can do at home as well to test for your bed’s responsiveness.
Memory foam mattresses usually have a low response to pressure, thanks to their slow-moving foams, whereas hybrid mattresses with coils (such as the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge) tend to have a high response to pressure due to the springy coils. Responsive mattresses are usually good for sex since they make it easy to change positions and move around. These traits also make them good for combination sleepers who switch sleeping positions at night.
I tested the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge’s responsiveness by moving around on the mattress and changing between different sleeping positions. The mattress is not super bouncy and I had to put in effort to easily change sleeping positions and to move freely on top of this mattress, but it was not incredibly hard to move around on. I gave this bed a decent score for responsiveness so this bed could be a good pick for combination sleepers as well as a good bed for sex!
Cooling
Many people may be too embarrassed to admit that sometimes you sweat at night, however, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. That just may be a strong indicator that you sleep hot. There are several factors these sleepers should consider when looking at whether a mattress will trap body heat. First and foremost, we look at the mattress’ construction.
Since the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress is made with IntelliCoil® technology and contains over 1700 densely packed coils, there’s plenty of room for air to flow through the mattress and keep it cool. Besides the coils, the TENCEL cover and the AirVent system does a fantastic job at dissipating trapped heat and regulating body temperature. You can tell the brand thought of cooling when designing this mattress.
We also test out each mattress with a device called a thermal gun, which uses color-coded imaging to measure how much and how quickly a mattress heats up when we lie down on it. If it heats up more than 15 degrees Fahrenheit, we consider it to have poor cooling capabilities. 10 to 15 degrees indicates decent cooling, 5 to 10 degrees indicates good cooling, and less than 5 degrees indicates excellent cooling.
After five minutes of lying on the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress, it increased around 5 degrees, which indicates pretty great regulation. That said, I feel the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge could be a great option for many hot sleepers.
Don’t forget that several outside factors can affect how warm you sleep, including the temperature of your bedroom, how close your bed is to an air vent or window, and your body’s own temperature, which can vary from person to person.
Edge Support
Edge support refers to how well the perimeter of the bed bears weight. No one enjoys the feeling like their bed is collapsing underneath them. Not only is that not comfortable, but it’s not ideal for people with mobility issues who need that extra support getting in and out of the bed. This is also useful for couples or families who like to maximize the surface area of their bed.
When sitting and laying on the side of the mattress, I felt very supported, comfortable and didn’t feel like I was going to fall off. There was barely any sinkage on the edge of the bed. I personally like to test the corner of the mattress as well during this test because I know many people use the corner to get in and out of the bed or even rest on it when tying their shoes. There was a little amount of sinkage when sitting on the corner, but my body still felt rather supported and comfortable.
I even measured the sinkage with a yardstick, and the bed sank exactly two inches which isn’t a bad result. This bed’s edge support is exceptional. I gave it a perfect score. This bed’s edge support reminds me similarly of the Saatva Classic, another reason why this bed is a budget-friendly Saatva Classic alternative. Saatva is known for providing sleepers one of the best edge supports in the mattress biz — but this bed is literally half the cost.
Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress Performance For Couples
Sharing a bed with your partner is seen as a romantic gesture. But do you know what’s not romantic? Being woken up constantly due to your partner’s restlessness. To determine whether a mattress is a good choice for couples, we look at four performance factors: motion isolation, responsiveness for sex, cooling, and edge support.
Based on the Kirkland Signature’s Lakeridge results in these tests, I would say this bed is a great choice for anyone who sleeps with a partner as it scored pretty well in all of these areas. This bed offers a stellar edge support system and cooling properties. This bed also isolates motion well which is unique for a hybrid mattress.

My Final Thoughts about the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress
Well we’ve finally made it to the end of my review of the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress. As you can see, I was pleasantly surprised by this mattress and think it could be a great option for many types of sleepers. Even though my findings are subjective, these are my recommendations of who should and shouldn’t buy the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress.
Who I Recommend the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress For
- You can tell the brand really took cooling in mind when designing this mattress so I think it’s a perfect option for hot sleepers. Thanks to its construction such as the coils, TENCEL cover, and AirVent system, I would recommend this bed for any hot sleepers as this bed does an absolutely incredible job at absorbing body heat and keeping the sleeper cool.
- Since this bed isolates motion quite well, offers pretty good edge support, and shines with its cooling properties, then I’d say this mattress is an excellent option for couples.
- Due to this mattress’ stellar edge support, this bed is perfect for people with mobility issues.
- Since this bed is quite firm it is supportive enough to keep the body lifted and spine aligned so this mattress is also an excellent choice for most back and stomach average-to-heavyweight sleepers.
- Finally, this bed is a great budget-friendly option as this bed is a steal of a deal and feels incredibly luxurious compared to other similar beds on the market.
Who I Don’t Recommend the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress For
- Most lightweight sleepers, people who weigh less than 130 pounds, will likely find the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress too firm — especially for strict side sleepers.
- The TENCEL cover and pillow top gives this bed a good amount of plushness, which should provide good cushion for the joints, however, side sleepers with more sensitive joints may need a bed that offers more pressure relief in these areas.
- Even though you don’t have to leave the comfort of your home to buy this mattress, it is only available online which means you can’t test it for yourself in your local Costco store — which is why I’m here reviewing this mattress for you! However, you don’t have to have a CostCo membership card to order this bed online.

Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Vs
Mattress shopping can feel overwhelming — trust me, I get it. With so many different types of mattresses on the market currently, it can be stressful and overwhelming on where to even begin your mattress search. I want to help make your mattress buying experience easier so I’ll compare it to a few other popular hybrid mattresses to see how they stack up to the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge.
Kirkland Signature Lakeridge vs DreamCloud
The original DreamCloud mattress is the company’s flagship bed that feels incredibly luxurious. The DreamCloud contains similar features to the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge such as a cozy pillow top, gel memory foam, and sturdy coils to support and keep the body lifted. The DreamCloud and the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress both offer a firmer than average feel — we rated it as a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, the same rating we gave the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge.
- Price: The DreamCloud is slightly more expensive than the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge, by about $300 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: The DreamCloud, with its medium-firm construction, is well-suited for lightweight sleepers, as well as back sleepers of all body types. This bed balances support with plenty of pressure relief for back sleepers.
- Cooling: The DreamCloud contains cooling gel infusions in the memory foam layer and breathable coils, so it is a solid choice for hot sleepers who overheat at night.
- Body weight: The DreamCloud is supportive enough for back sleepers of all weights. However, we don’t think DreamCloud is supportive enough for heavy side or stomach sleepers. It should be fine for most light-weight sleepers.

Kirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress vs Saatva Classic
The Saatva Classic has become a fan favorite in the mattress industry and is one of the most popular innerspring mattresses on the market. This bed was designed to provide a luxuriously supportive sleeping experience.
Similar to the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress, the Saatva Classic mattress is a luxury mattress built with innerspring coils and a plush Euro pillow top. It also comes in multiple firmness options, heights, and with free white glove delivery. The Saatva Classic also offers one of the best edge supports in the mattress industry, meaning it’s a great option for people with mobility issues. The Saatva Classic is a tad plusher than the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress— we rated it as a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, the standard for medium-firm.
- Price: The Saatva Classic is more expensive than the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge, by about $1,000 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: The Saatva Classic offers three different firmness options so sleepers can customize their sleeping experience. The Saatva Classic is well-suited for most back sleepers as bed balances support with plenty of pressure relief for back sleepers. It is also a good choice for combination sleepers as well as hot sleepers.
- Cooling: Hot sleepers should have no trouble staying cool on the Saatva Classic, thanks to its airy coil-on-coil construction.
- Body weight: The Saatva Classic is supportive enough for most sleepers because its sturdy construction increases its support and durability. However, the brand does have another model built specifically for heavyweight sleepers: the Saatva HD.

The Saatva’s coil-on-coil construction provides a classic innerspring feel. It's a good option for combo sleepers, who will want to feel free to switch positions and avoid feeling “stuck” in the mattress. It comes in three firmness levels, so you should be able to find one that suits your needs.

Patty, Saatva customerKirkland Signature Lakeridge Mattress vs Helix Midnight Luxe
The Helix Midnight Luxe contains luxury features, including a pressure-relieving plush pillow top and zoned support in the coils. The zoned support system offers extra support in the lumbar region, so the body will feel lifted up and keep the spine aligned. The comfort layer and cozy pillow top relieves pressure off of sensitive joints and helps alleviate joint pain. We found this bed to be medium-soft — we rated it as 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
- Price: The Helix Midnight Luxe is priced quite similar to the Emma Hybrid Cooling Elite mattress and is just a tad cheaper, by less than $1,300 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: This is a great pick for back and side sleepers as the bed offers immediate relief at the shoulders and hips. The coils also help promote a neutral spinal alignment. This bed is comfortable yet supportive.
- Cooling: Hot sleepers should have no problem staying cool on the Helix Midnight Luxe due to its construction and multiple cooling features.
- Body weight: We didn’t find the Helix Midnight Luxe supportive enough for heavy sleepers, people who weigh 250 pounds or more. I don’t think these sleepers will get the support they need, however, Helix has a mattress specifically designed for heavier bodies.

Other Models from Stearns & Foster
Keep reading below to compare how this model holds up against another bed that Stearns & Foster offers: the Lux Estate mattress.
Kirkland Signature Lakeridge vs Lux Estate
The Lux Estate mattress is a luxurious hybrid mattress that features hotel-grade plush foam and a supportive, bouncy coil system. It’s available in two models: one with a pillow top (available in different firmness levels) and one without. With or without the optional pillow top, this Stearns & Foster mattress provides a great balance of comfort and support for all sleeping positions. The Lux Estate mattress with the pillow top is a tad softer than the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge, which is why our testers gave it a 6.5 out of 10, meaning it’s medium-firm.
- Price: Due to the Lux Estate’s premium and luxurious features it is a lot more expensive compared to the Kirkland Signature Lakeridge mattress, by over $2,000 for a queen size.
- Sleeping position: Thanks to its construction, the Lux Estate has a luxuriously supportive feel yet plush so most sleepers should be comfortable in every sleeping position.
- Cooling: The Lux Estate mattress is designed with a lot of cooling materials, such as its ventilated coil layer, cool-to-the-touch cover, and air vents on the sides. It is very cool to sleep on and does a fantastic job at dissipating heat.
- Body weight: Due to its plushy and cozy cover and its supportive coils, the Lux Estate can work for most body types.

Our Review Process
At Sleepopolis, our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches personally test each mattress. We start by unboxing the mattress to figure out how difficult (or easy) it is to get the mattress from the box to the bed. Then, we spend time laying on the bed in different positions, taking time to assess it on our backs, stomachs, and sides. Next, we perform our Sleepopolis tests, using specialized tools to measure qualities like motion transfer, bounce, and pressure relief. Our last step is to open up the mattress and take a look at each layer. These steps allow us to give our final verdict on the mattress.
