Bed frames are the literal foundation of every comfortable sleep setup, so it’s important to put some thought into choosing the right one for you. With so many options, it can be hard to know where to start. Fortunately, I’ve narrowed down the field to seven of our favorite bed frames so you can find your perfect fit.
My fellow sleep product testers and I have evaluated dozens of top-rated bed frames to determine the best of the best. Every model on this list is well-made, supportive, and easy to assemble.
In 2024 alone, we helped 15,622 people find the best mattress for them (and 60,108 people overall since 2014). Our certified sleep science coaches have tested over 300 beds and sleep products in our studio using our thorough review methodology, including all the bed frames featured in this guide.
While selecting the best bed frames for this list, I also consulted with our Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM, to fact-check our methodology and make sure our picks are in line with the latest in sleep science.

What I Looked for in the Best Bed Frames
To find the best bed frames on the market, my fellow product testers and I focused on models that were well-made, easy to assemble, and built for longevity. We assembled and evaluated each frame using our review methodology to get a clear sense of its quality and performance. From setup to real-world use, we rated each bed frame based on its stability, comfort, and craftsmanship. Here’s how we made our picks.
Assembly: Our sleep experts and product testers built every bed frame by hand at our studio in Charlotte, NC. We wanted to see if we could quickly assemble every model using only the instructions and tools that came with the bed frame.
Experience: After assembling every bed frame on this list, we tested each one to see how they held up under a mattress and two people. Our product testers evaluated noise, comfort, and any additional features included with the bed frame.
Materials: The bed frames featured on this list are durable enough to stand the test of time. These models arrived without any apparent manufacturing defects and didn’t wobble, creak, or otherwise appear flimsy during testing.
The Saatva Santorini bed frame uses durable materials like kiln-dried hardwood, and features a fully upholstered headboard. You can choose between three fabrics for the upholstery.
The Saatva Santorini Platform Bed is my top pick for the best bed frame due to its minimalist design, durable materials, and excellent overall performance. Better yet, the Santorini is easy to assemble, with clear instructions and all necessary tools included, making for a hassle-free setup for two people. Our product testers awarded the Saatva Santorini a score of 4 out of 5 or higher for materials, assembly, and experience.
Saatva is primarily known for making affordable mattresses that don’t skimp on quality, and fortunately, it looks like the company takes the same approach with its bed frames. Product tester Sosha Lewis was impressed by the durability of the Santorini’s components while assembling it and gave it a 4.5 out of 5 in the materials category.
“Aside from a slight wiggle in the headboard, this is a very sturdy bed,” Sosha said. “We scooted it across a concrete floor with a mattress on it, and it didn’t bend, scrape, or crack.
Sosha and her testing partner, Livvi DiCicco, also appreciated how easy the Santorini was to assemble, thanks to its straightforward instructions and clearly labeled components. Both testers agreed on an assembly score of 4.5 out of 5.
“Thankfully, everything that you need is in the box, and the instructions are easy to follow,” Livvi said. “It didn’t take long to assemble at all.”
After putting the Santorini together, it was time for Sosha and Livvi to see how it would perform with a mattress and two people on top of it. Our testers thoroughly assess every model to determine how stable its parts are and if it can withstand regular wear and tear. They were impressed with its performance and gave it a 4.5 out of 5 in the overall experience category.
“The only point of instability I noticed was the headboard, which is optional,” Sosha said. “I was able to move around on the mattress easily and didn’t hear anything or feel unstable. I think the Santorini should work great for folks looking for a simple but sleek and sturdy frame.”
Aside from the wiggly headboard, the only other drawback I can think of is the Saatva Santorini’s price tag. At $1,595, it’s not what I would consider a budget option, but for a bed frame of this quality, I still think it’s a solid deal for a durable bed frame that can handle regular wear and tear and then some.
If you like to sit up in bed or are in search of various features, like an anti-snore position or massaging, then the Nectar Adjustable Bed could be for you.
An adjustable bed can help you achieve the perfect position for a restful night’s sleep. However, not all adjustable bed frames are built the same. You’ll need to find one that’s compatible with your mattress and includes all the features that you’re looking for. It should also be easy to use and transition from position to position without jerking or putting your mattress and body in an awkward position. Fortunately, the Nectar Premier Adjustable Base offers all of this and more, scoring a 4 out of 5 in the materials and experience categories.
Assembly was surprisingly straightforward for an adjustable base. Product tester Kate Gorman appreciated that it only required minimal setup. With two people, the process took just under one hour. All necessary tools and instructions were included, and the adjustable base was easy to connect to the power and remote controls. Kate gave the Nectar Premier Adjustable Base a 4 out of 5 for assembly.
Once assembled, Kate tested the Nectar base with a compatible memory foam mattress to see how it performed under regular use. Transitions between positions were smooth, quiet, and responsive, with minimal jerking or delays. Overall, she gave it a 4-star rating in the experience category.
“The bed made very minimal jerking movements when I changed positions on the remote,” Kate said. “It did jerk a little bit when the mattress itself was adjusting on the base. However, the base itself moved very smoothly.”
Despite the Nectar Premier Adjustable Base performing well in most of her tests, Kate deducted a few points due to the remote’s less-than-intuitive design. “The icons on the remote are a bit confusing,” Kate said. “It’s not immediately clear what all the buttons do, and it took some trial and error to figure things out.”
Overall, the Nectar Premier Adjustable Base offers strong performance, smooth operation, and an easy setup process. While the icon-based controls may take some getting used to, and the mattress may shift slightly during adjustments, these are relatively minor issues compared to the base’s all-around good quality and solid features.
The Saatva Amalfi Storage Bed combines elegant design with practical storage, featuring a plush upholstered headboard and under-platform storage space for added functionality.
A bed frame with a storage compartment sounds like a great way to save space on paper. However, many models come with flimsy parts and limited room for your belongings. Fortunately, that’s not the case with the Saatva Amalfi Storage Bed, especially if you opt for the king size. Our product testers gave the luxurious Amalfi 4.5 stars or more in the assembly, materials, and experience categories.
The Saatva Amalfi Storage Bed came with all the instructions and necessary tools for assembly. It took our product testers around an hour to build it, which wasn’t bad considering the additional setup time needed for the storage compartment. We gave the Amalfi a 4.5 out of 5 in the assembly category. Despite having everything you need to set it up without using additional tools, it’s probably a good idea to break out the drill. Saatva also offers free in-room delivery, but they don’t set it up for you.

After setting up the bed and assessing its materials, product tester Sosha Lewis was impressed by the quality of all the components. The Amalfi bed frame features an upholstered headboard and a hydraulic system that lifts the mattress off the bed so you can use all the space beneath it for storage. Sosha noted that both felt very high-end and gave the Amalfi a perfect 5 out of 5 for materials.
“The velvet seems very luxurious and the overall quality is very impressive,” Sosha said. “The hydraulics seem strong. I don’t think anything in this bed frame will wear out any time soon.”
The Amalfi’s premium materials also helped it earn another 5 out of 5 for experience. Sosha and her testing partner, Livvi DiCicco, felt stable while lying on a mattress together on the storage bed. Nothing budged, wobbled, or creaked for them during testing, which is quite impressive for a bed frame with this many moving parts.
“I didn’t notice any noise when I was moving around on the bed on this bed frame,” Livvi said. “Everything was super sturdy, and I have no complaints. Even opening and closing the storage compartment didn’t create much noise.”
There are very few cons to note about the Amalfi Storage Bed. If I had to critique something, it would be its longer-than-usual setup time and luxury price tag. With the storage option, the Amalfi is $2,795 for a king-sized model, which is quite steep. However, it might be a worthwhile investment for those seeking ample storage space and a durable bed frame.
The Classic Bed by Thuma is the company’s platform bed frame. It’s gained popularity for its sleek, modern design and how easy it is to assemble. It comes in multiple colors in either a PillowBoard or Headboard model.
Wood platform beds are known for their sleek, low-profile designs. The Thuma Classic is a space-saving, durable, and comfortable mid-century modern bed frame that can elevate the look of any bedroom. Product tester Kayla Godfrey gave the Thuma Classic a perfect 5 out of 5 in the materials and experience categories after spending a day with it.
As soon as she unboxed the Thuma Classic, Kayla was impressed with its high-end design and heavy-duty components. Before assembling the bed frame, she could immediately tell that this bed frame was built for the long haul and gave it a perfect 5-star rating for its materials.
Assembling the Thuma Classic Bed.
“This bed is heavy and solid,” Kayla said. “I love the finish and you can tell it’s solid wood. Everything goes together seamlessly and seems like it was thoughtfully designed for ease of assembly and for a sleek minimalistic design.”
After Kayla and her testing partner built the Thuma Classic, they tested it in our Charlotte, NC, studio to assess its stability, noise, and comfort with a mattress and two people on it. Kayla and her testing partner moved the Thuma into different areas of the studio and thoroughly assessed it for a glimpse into its everyday performance. When everything was said and done, she gave it another 5 out of 5 in this category.
“The bed does not make noise when sitting on it or moving around,” Kayla said. “I tried it on a hardwood floor and carpet, and in both settings, it performed great for noise. With two people on it, it did make a slight noise of the wood shifting, but it wasn’t too noticeable.”
The Thuma Classic is as close to perfect as a wood bed frame gets; however, Kayla noted that it was a bit difficult to assemble. She gave it a 3 out of 5 for assembly because it had some confusing instructions regarding its optional headboard.
“This bed frame is straightforward to install and did not take long at all,” Kayla said. “However, I got confused when it came time to attach the headboard. The instructions regarding the headboard were a little unclear to me, but everything else was very intuitive. Overall, the bedframe locks in seamlessly, and the specially designed bolts are easy to install without any tools.”
Kayla also noted that the Thuma is a bit steep at $1,995 before any discounts. However, she was willing to let it slide because of its exceptional quality.
The Big Fig Platform Bed is a robust, handcrafted frame designed to support up to 2,000 lbs, ideal for heavier individuals seeking durability and style.
Sleepers over 230 pounds need a supportive bed that holds up over time. Big Fig is primarily known for its high-end mattresses tailored for folks with bigger bodies; however, its platform bed frame has proven to be just as durable, supportive, and high-quality. Our mattress testers were impressed with Big Fig’s heavy-duty construction and awarded it 4.5 stars or higher in assembly, materials, and overall experience.
Our product tester Matt Schickling was impressed with the Big Fig Platform Bed’s durable components right out of the box and gave it a 4.5 out of 5 in the materials category. “The wood is thick and hardy and seems like it will hold up a long time,” he said. “It is built for heavier sleepers, and it definitely delivers on that security.”

Matt and his testing partner, Kate Meier, also gave the Big Fig an assembly score of 4.5 out of 5. Aside from the instructions lacking images, they both found it fairly intuitive to put together.
“I think most people should be able to assemble this bed on their own,” Kate said. “Only a few parts required tools and hardware, everything else has a slot it slides into without any screwing necessary.”
Despite the Big Fig’s simple assembly process, Matt and Kate found that the final product was rock-solid. After putting a mattress on top of it and lying on the bed together to see how it would perform under pressure, they were pleasantly surprised at how it stood in place.
“We jumped on this frame, pulled and tugged on it, and there was very little movement to it,” Kate said. “This is one of the sturdiest platform beds we have tested!”
While the Big Fig is one of the sturdiest beds we have had the pleasure of testing in our studio, its biggest downside is that it isn’t eligible for returns. Additionally, a $1,800 bed frame with a simple headboard might be a tough pill to swallow for most shoppers. However, for sleepers who need the added durability, this is a worthwhile investment.
The DreamCloud Claremont Bed Frame is a stylish and durable choice for those seeking a high-quality queen-sized frame. The Claremont’s solid wood design helps create a warmer, more inviting look. At just under $1,000 at full price, this affordable bed frame is built to compete with the strongest options on the market and earned 4 out of 5 or higher across our testing categories, including materials, assembly, and experience.
Product tester Matt Schickling praised the frame for its stability and quietness, especially when he set it up on a rug in our testing studio. He gave it a 4.5 for materials and 4 for experience. “After tightening everything up, the bed barely wobbles,” Matt said. “It doesn’t move at all with a rug beneath it. It’s also dead silent.”
Our tester Kate Meier screws together the structural elements of a DreamCloud Claremont Bed Frame.
Matt and his testing partner, Kate Meier, also gave it a solid 4.5 out of 5 for assembly. While they found the job manageable, they recommended having a second person to assist, as some parts are bulky to handle solo. Thankfully, DreamCloud gave us all the tools we needed, and our team had the entire frame set up in just 25 minutes.
“Start to finish, we had this bed unboxed and assembled in under 25 minutes,” Kate said. “I think most people could do this on their own; the pieces are very light and easy to move, and the directions are simple to follow. You may not even need to follow the directions because it’s very intuitive what you need to do.”
Aside from a few bulky and unwieldy parts, our testers found few issues with the Claremont bed frame. However, they noted that the Claremont scooted around more on hardwood, so we recommend using this bed frame on a carpeted floor or rug.
If you’re looking for a simple yet sturdy bed frame that doesn’t break the bank, The Frame by Brooklyn Bedding is hard to beat. At $175 for a queen-sized bed frame, The Frame is easily the cheapest bed frame on our list. Our product testers found that this budget bed frame punches well above its weight and awarded it a 4 out of 5 or higher in the assembly, materials, and experience categories.
Right off the bat, product tester Kayla Godfrey was impressed with how easy it was to assemble this bed frame. After unboxing it, she was able to put together The Frame in a matter of minutes — a first for anyone on our team. The Frame by Brooklyn Bedding gets a perfect 5-star assembly score for being the easiest bed frame to put together in Sleepopolis history.
A Brooklyn Bedding The Frame, still in the packaging.
Kayla also gave it a 4 out of 5 for its materials. While The Frame by Brooklyn Bedding isn’t anything special, it’s constructed out of durable metal that should be able to withstand regular use over time. At this price point, it’s hard to knock off too many points for its simple design.
Considering its straightforward design and construction, Kayla and her fellow product testers also settled on a 4-star experience score. While moving the bed frame from room to room and testing it for noise, comfort, and stability, they found that it stayed surprisingly quiet and didn’t notice any potential weak points in its construction.
“We did not have a box frame to be able to fully test this bed for noise,” Kayla said. “However, when testing the bed frame as is, the metal didn’t clang or shift. Overall, this bed frame feels really solid, especially given how affordable it is.”
The only real drawbacks to The Frame by Brooklyn Bedding are that it requires a box spring to use and that it doesn’t come with any extra features. However, at $175 for a queen-sized bed frame before any discounts, you would be hard pressed to find a better value. We think this is the perfect option for a twin bed or a guest room.
The following bed frames are models that didn’t quite make my final list, but they were still strong contenders that stood out in testing. Both frames are well-constructed and reasonably priced but don’t come with any extra features or additional storage.
This best seller by Nectar was very close to making it onto my list. It’s quiet, easy to assemble, and a queen-sized model often goes on sale for just under $600 from $1,270. Unfortunately, if you order the version with the wood headboard, it comes in two separate boxes, which makes it a bit of a hassle to get through the door. The headboard itself also bangs against the wall when you move around on the mattress.
The KD Nomad quickly became one of my favorite budget options during my testing. For only $299 before discounts, you get a durable and supportive queen-sized bed frame. It was also easy for my testing partner and me to assemble. However, this bed frame is as bare-bones as it gets. The KD Nomad doesn’t come with a footboard, extra under-bed storage, or any other additional features.
How We Picked and Tested These Bed Frames
When gathering our picks for this list, my fellow mattress testers and I built, bounced, and slept on every bed in our Charlotte, NC, studio to see which ones would hold up the best. We paid extra close attention to comfort, stability, noise, and user-friendliness.
Assembly
A smooth assembly process can make a big difference when setting up a new bed frame. If the model has clear and easy assembly instructions, you are less likely to wind up with a few extra screws and a shaky bed.
Our testers attempted to assemble every bed frame using only the tools and instructions provided. They noted how clear the steps were and whether parts were missing or unwieldy to handle.
Our tester Kate Meier assembles a bed frame.
In our experience, the best bed frames take 30 minutes or less to put together and come with straightforward instructions, labeled components, and tools that make the process efficient.
Experience
After assembling each bed frame, our testers evaluated its performance under real-life conditions with a mattress and two people. We chose frames that felt sturdy, stayed quiet, and supported movement without shifting or squeaking.
We also took note of comfort and any additional features, like built-in headboards or storage. The best bed frames felt secure and improved the overall sleep experience without being disruptive or drawing attention to themselves.
Materials
Materials often decide a bed frame’s feel and sturdiness. We looked for models that featured solid hardwood, high-gauge steel, or premium upholstery. These materials can withstand regular activity without chipping, bending, or snapping apart.

What to Consider When Buying a New Bed Frame
There are a handful of other practical factors beyond quality, comfort, and durability to consider when shopping for a new bed frame, including price, warranty coverage, size, weight capacity, and mattress compatibility. Here’s a closer look at what to keep in mind before buying a bed frame.
Your Mattress
Your mattress also plays a key role in choosing the right bed frame. Different mattress types, such as memory foam, innerspring, or hybrid require specific kinds of support for comfort and longevity.
“The type of bed frame you get and whether you need a box spring depends on the mattress you have,” Dr. Dasgupta explains. “You usually don’t need a box spring for a hybrid mattress. These mattresses function well with platform beds, adjustable bases, and slatted frames. Box springs might not be necessary and could affect the support and height of the mattress. Check the mattress manufacturer guidelines and your bed frame design to make the right choice for proper support.”

Size and Weight Limit
Choosing the right bed frame size guarantees a secure fit for your mattress and contributes to the overall stability of your sleep surface. For example, king and California king mattresses require sturdy center support and reinforced legs to prevent sagging over time.
Weight capacity is also something to consider, especially for heavier mattresses or multiple sleepers. Look for frames that clearly state their weight limits and include strong support slats or center beams.
Price
Bed frame prices can vary widely depending on the materials, design, and added features. Budget-friendly options typically start around $100 but often offer limited support or a basic build. These options are better suited for guest rooms.
Our tester Nicole Davis puts together a Bear Summit bed frame.
Mid-range to premium options are typically priced between $500 and $2,000 or more. These include wood, metal, or upholstered bed frames that offer greater durability, support, and noise reduction. Materials like rubberwood and plywood are commonly used in this price range for their practical balance of affordability and strength, making them a reliable choice for long-term use.
Warranty
A good warranty signals that a company stands behind its product. Look for bed frames with warranties that last at least five years and cover common defects, including structural damage, broken wooden slats, or faulty joints. Be sure to review the warranty terms carefully. A quality warranty should cover normal wear and tear from everyday use and provide reassurance that your frame will last.
Best Bed Frames FAQs
How much should you spend on a bed frame?
Your bed frame budget depends on your budget and the features you’re looking for. Basic models can start around $100, while higher-end options with premium materials or built-in storage can cost $500 to $1,000 or more.
How often should you replace your bed frame?
Most well-made bed frames can last anywhere from 10 to 15 years. However, if you notice squeaking, sagging, or visible damage, it may be time for a replacement sooner.
Do metal or wooden bed frames last longer?
Metal bed frames generally have a longer lifespan because they’re less prone to warping, cracking, or breaking. Wood frames can still be very durable, but they may be more sensitive to humidity and wear over time.
Are slats better than box springs?
Slatted bed frames are typically cheaper and allow for better airflow, which helps reduce dust and moisture buildup. Box springs can add height and support, but they tend to trap more allergens and aren’t always necessary with new mattresses.
