Tester Nicole Davis appreciated the Summit bed frame’s stability while moving around on top of the mattress and awarded it an overall experience score of 4.5 out of 5. She noted that the headboard and bed frame didn’t shake or move around on the rug after ensuring the components were tightly in place.
“The wood slats are stable and don’t move when you do,” Nicole said. “I flipped around and moved quite a bit on the mattress and still felt stable and supported.”
When she invited another tester to join her and toss and turn on the queen-size bed together, they were impressed at how well everything stood in place, including the headboard. Unfortunately, finding a stable headboard on a wooden bed frame is a lot like finding a unicorn, and unicorns are expensive. At full price, this heavy-duty mahogany bed frame costs $1,200, which could be a bit steep for budget shoppers.
It was also more challenging to assemble than some of the other bed frames our team has tested. In total, it took Nicole and her testing partner 28 minutes to assemble using power tools that weren’t included in the set. She also noted that it had many components, making it tricky to keep track of everything.

“The cover fabric feels pretty smooth and high-quality and not ratty or cheap,” Cait said. “The base doesn’t seem like it will show signs of wear very quickly. I bounced a bit on the mattress and it didn’t feel like it would shift or break beneath me.”

First, no instructions came with the packaging, which made it challenging to assemble. Fortunately, Cait and her testing partner were still able to build the mattress in under 45 minutes because its design is intuitive.
They also found the storage space itself to be somewhat lacking. Cait noted that the drawer felt like it slid on a flimsy mechanism and that the magnet intended to hold it shut wasn’t strong enough. During testing, I was impressed with its lack of noise, simple assembly, and sturdy wooden construction. Product tester Riley Otis and I gave it 4 stars or more in noise, experience, assembly, and price.
While building this bed frame, we found the instructions to be clear and easy to follow. KD Frames also has a video on its YouTube channel that breaks down how to assemble this mattress step-by-step, which is a nice touch. It took us just under 30 minutes to fully build the Nomad, which is why we awarded it a 4.5 out of 5 for assembly.
We also gave it another near-perfect 4.5 out of 5 in the noise and experience categories. The bed frame stayed silent as I rolled from one side of the bed to the other. Riley and I also jumped on the bed to see if it would budge and move around on the floor, but it stood in place. The bed frame is basic, but it is sturdy.
