In the market for a weighted blanket? Let me introduce you to the Bearaby Cotton Napper. This weighted blanket is one of the most unique I’ve ever seen, so I’m excited to share my experience testing it out. Bearaby’s weighted blankets are different from most others because they don’t use fillers like glass beads or plastic pellets. Intrigued? I was too!

In this review, I’ll be going over the materials and feel of this blanket, as well as make some recommendations of who I think should consider buying it. Let’s get into it!

What is the Bearaby Cotton Napper Weighted Blanket Made Of?

If you’ve been browsing around online for a weighted blanket, you’ve probably seen quite a variety of materials used in different blankets. That’s why I like to kick things off with materials, because what a weighted blanket is made of can really determine the feel!

Check out the wide-knit weave on the Bearaby!

The Bearaby Cotton Napper is made with 95 percent organic long-staple cotton and 5 percent spandex. The fabric is hand-knit in a large, open weave to form the blanket. And here’s where things really get interesting: there’s no weighted filling! The weight of the blanket comes solely from the weight of the fabric itself.

The Cotton Napper’s fabric is pre-washed, so it feels super soft, like an old T-shirt. Additionally, the cotton used in this fabric blend is Made in Green certified by OEKO-TEX to have been manufactured in environmentally-friendly facilities under safe and socially responsible working conditions. It’s also Fair Trade International certified.

How Much Does the Bearaby Cotton Napper Weighted Blanket Weigh?

The Bearaby Cotton Napper is available in four different weights: 10, 15, 20, and 25 pounds. Each weight is only available in one size, so the 10-pound blanket has the smallest dimensions and the 25-pound blanket has the largest dimensions.

When choosing a weighted blanket, you should aim for a weight that’s close to 10 percent of your own body weight. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds, then the 20-pound blanket would be the best choice for you! If you’re in between two sizes, go with the heavier one. So if you weigh 120 pounds, the 15-pound blanket would be a better pick than the 10 lb. The reason for this ratio is that it will allow you to experience Deep Pressure Touch.

bearaby side 2
Lying under the Cotton Napper.

Deep Pressure Touch is the sensory experience we get from hugging or cuddling, which causes your body to produce hormones that help you to relax and calm down, like melatonin and serotonin, and lower levels of stress hormones like cortisol. Weighted blankets have been shown to have this same effect with Deep Pressure Touch.

One more important note about weight is that the Cotton Napper should not be used for children, as kids need a lower weight ratio in a weighted blanket. Bearaby makes a kids blanket called the Nappling that I’d recommend looking into if you want a weighted blanket for your child. But babies and toddlers should never use a weighted blanket of any size. Consult your child’s doctor if you’re unsure if a weighted blanket is right for them.

What Does the Bearaby Cotton Napper Weighted Blanket Feel Like?

After testing the Bearaby Cotton Napper out at home for a few nights, I got a good sense of its feel.

First, I loved the feel of the fabric used in the blanket. The pre-washing definitely gives the blanket that old T-shirt feel, making it feel super soft and smooth. It has an already-worn-in feel that instantly made the blanket feel so cozy.

I liked the textured feel of this blanket!

I also really like the texture of the chunky knit. It’s definitely a different feel than most other weighted blankets, as it doesn’t feel like a singular, uniform piece of fabric.

The fact that the weight of the blanket comes solely from the weight of the fabric itself keeps the weight distribution really even. There’s no worry about filling pooling on one side, since there is none!

Is the Bearaby Cotton Napper Weighted Blanket Good for Hot Sleepers?

Another great benefit of the knit design used to make the Cotton Napper is that it allows for lots of airflow. That’ll prevent your body heat from being trapped in the blanket, leading to you overheating. The loops of the fabric are quite large, so it’s basically full of holes — you can see through the blanket if you hold it up to your face.

While the blanket isn’t cool to the touch and doesn’t have any specific cooling technology, it stays much cooler than other weighted blankets, thanks to the super breathable knit.

How Durable is the Bearaby Cotton Napper Weighted Blanket?

When you invest in a new bedding or sleep product, you’ll want to be sure it’s going to last awhile. Fortunately, the Bearaby Cotton Napper is a blanket that I think is very durable. The fabric used to create this knit blanket is very thick, which I think will ensure it holds up over time. It’s also primarily made of cotton, which is a material known for its longevity.

Additionally, this entire blanket is machine washable. That’s a huge plus in my book, and it will ensure that your blanket stays in its best condition over time. Also, I think washing your Bearaby blanket will only make it softer over time!

Is the Bearaby Cotton Napper Weighted Blanket Good for You?

We’ve covered a lot about the Cotton Napper blanket, so here’s my recommendations for who should try it and who may want to consider another weighted blanket.

Who Should Try the Bearaby Cotton Napper Weighted Blanket

  • If you tend to run hot, I think you’ll love the breathability of the Bearaby Cotton Napper. It definitely allows for much more air circulation than other weighted blankets.
  • If you want a weighted blanket with simple care instructions, you’ll definitely appreciate that you can machine wash the entire blanket.
  • If you want a blanket that uses organic materials, the Cotton Napper is a great choice, as it is made of 95 percent organic cotton.
  • And if you want a weighted blanket that doesn’t use a filler, the Bearaby Cotton Napper is perfect for you! You never have to worry about the filler coming out if the blanket tears or a furry friend chews on it, since there is none!

Bearaby Cotton Napper Weighted Blanket Complaints

  • If you’re on the heavier side, the Cotton Napper may not be the best pick for you. With the heaviest weight option being 25 pounds, there may not be a blanket that’s close to 10 percent of your body weight, so you may not experience the relaxing effects of Deep Pressure Touch.
  • If you’re looking for a more traditional weighted blanket, you may not enjoy the chunky knitted texture of the Cotton Napper. Additionally, if you’re looking for something to keep you warm, you may not love the open-weave.
  • If you want to share your weighted blanket with a partner, the Cotton Napper might not be the best choice, as you’ll want a weight that is 10 percent of your combined weights. However, Bearaby does make another blanket called the Hugger that is meant for sharing.

Now I am a big believer that color is an important part of choosing bedding and sleep accessories. Functionality is important, of course, but we can’t forget about style! Fortunately, the Bearaby Cotton Napper is available in several colors, which all have super fun names.

The blanket I tested for this review is the Midnight Blue color, but the Cotton Napper also comes in Asteroid Grey, Moonstone Grey, Cloud White, and my personal favorite, Evening Rose. I think these color options are great and will look stylish in just about any bedroom or living room.

Bearaby Cotton Napper Weighted Blanket vs Gravity Weighted Blanket

gravity blanket tag

  • Now let’s compare the Napper to a more traditional weighted blanket: the Gravity. The Gravity weighted blanket has a polyester duvet cover.
  • The inner blanket is filled with fine-grade glass beads, which are basically super tiny beads, so they’re less likely to make noise or clink when you move the blanket around. The inner blanket uses gridded stitching to ensure even weight distribution.
  • The Gravity weighted blanket is available in a 35-pound size, which makes it a better option for couples or heavier people
